I have a Shikoku and imho there are more truths in this video than any other I have come across. It isnt perfect, but it is very good. The part that I found most accurate was at 6:48: mastering a good recall to rein in their tendency to get carried away with a scent. If left to his own devices, my dog will fixate on a particular scent for hours. I also found the part about not tolerating "teasing" and holding grudges to be 100% accurate as well. I would say the one thing this video should have added that it did not, is that Shikoku are more adverse to negative reinforcement than any breed I have ever seen. However, positive reinforcement will work. These dogs hold grudges. Hard punishment will hinder training.

How would you compare Shikokus maintanence with other common dog breeds? I'm not very familiar with in depth dog knowledge but I'd like to own a shikoku some day

Maintenance seems like it would be on par with other Spitz type dogs, such as the Siberian Husky, Alaskan Malamute, etc. At least as far as coat care and grooming are concerned. Not really the type of dog that you want to give regular baths to either. Messes up their coat.

1:29 This is a mistake. The main part of shiba inu came from jomon inu, which is ancient dog and came from Japan over 10000 years ago . "Jomon" is this period.

No, the Japonic people are the ancestors of the japanese people who were originally inhabiting the Korean peninsula before moving further to the Japanese mainland around 1200-500B.C 3,200-2,500 years ago. The korenic speakers the ancestors of the Koreans moved into the Korean peninsula around 300B.C from Manchuria. In fact many of the so-called Korean royal family were of Japanese origins not Koreans...
