I use to listen to this during to a time where I was suicidal, I’m listening to it now happier than I’ve ever been, things always get better. Elliott’s music and particularly this song will always be special to me
This song was what broke my 6 years of numbness from a traumatic brain injury. I must have listened to it a thousand times. It was my first step towards healing.
The amount of times i’ve turned to this song on a hard day. Just to hear a voice tell me everything’s okay. It’s such a beautiful and uplifiting yet also sad song.
Everything's okay Walks along the dock With some sailors pay Shoved down in his sock Everything's okay With some little boy in blue Who don't know you like i do Everything's okay Took him back to town Well i didn't get paid today So i'm in the lost and found And i wonder if that clown knows just what to do What to say and what not to The pretty words that you whispered Maybe i misunderstood Somebody's not paying attention What they promised and their word isn't good Everything's okay I'm looking for you now Down here by the bay Where the water pounds Up against the wall That i'm coming to Because i can't stay away from you I don't need no satisfaction And i don't take just because i can Sometimes i get a strong impression that you just don't understand That kind of man Everything's okay I can see your face Don't there in the waves Painted and erased But i'm told it's just the reflection of the moon A big fake resembling you I'm gonna go down in the water And fill my mouth up full of sand And i'll be waiting still impatient with my dead imagination While you're with some other man Everything's okay I'll be with you soon I'm walking out to place My arms around the moon Yeah, i'll be with you soon Just as i'm paid I'll walk across the water Everything's okay Walk on the water Everything's okay
This is just a guess, but when I noticed him I thought the reflected friend might be Neil Gust, other lead singer of Heatmiser. So I’m guessing somewhere in Portland? Sorry, that’s all I’ve got.
Tengo todos sus discos de estudio , también new moon y varios 7" de la primera época . Está increíble canción nunca fue editada en ningún lugar ? , no me refiero a esta versión en particular ..

A lot of people easily jump onto the theory of suicide because of the "sad druggy loser" person Elliott was made out to be by the media. And yes, he was sad sometimes and he did write songs about that sometimes and he did struggle with drugs and alcohol... but like you and me he was a complex and multifaceted person who didn't deserve to be pigeonholed in such a role. I'd suggest reading into the circumstances of his death and his life in general during 2003. He had put himself through two years of hell with nonstop drug abuse and he was finally on the road to recovery and finishing his album. I personally don't think he killed himself, but I encourage everyone to read up on the facts and decide for yourself.
You both have super valid points, that’s why I am still undecided, after nearly 17 years. I know I tried to commit suicide when I stopped a very strong antidepressant cold turkey. I had underlying issues of course, but that just wreaked havoc on my brain. I don’t fuck with typically prescribed antidepressants anymore. But the circumstances are super fishy, and I trust Jennifer Chiba as far as I could throw her. I mean, why not cooperate with the police? Just for one example. I hope one day we find the truth, but I don’t know if it will ever come.
@@anemicpeasantry7698 I also read that he gave up caffeine and red meat too. He really seemed to be an all or nothing kind of guy. He was always running from an all consuming depression. Drugs and alcohol worked for a long time but eventually he got fed up with them. In the end he was trying to rid his body of toxins that could contribute to his depression. He just wanted to be happy but his family history and brain chemistry had different plan's.
No, Pretty Mary K (other version) was recorded during the Either/Or era, March-July 1996. This was him reworking that song, and was gonna be put on From a Basement on the Hill
@@franceshahaDamn I didn’t know that, I would’ve killed for a fully realized version of this rendition. I love Pretty Mary K but honestly prefer this one
I used to tell my friends that Elliott was the greatest songwriter of his generation. But he was the greatest of any generation.

Still in 2022 ❤️
2023 :) still saving me
2024 now 🤍
Soooooo many perfect melodies and standout songs. It's mind bending.
That first line melody is so hauntingly beautiful.
Everything's okay
Walks along the dock
With some sailors pay
Shoved down in his sock
Everything's okay
With some little boy in blue
Who don't know you like i do
Everything's okay
Took him back to town
Well i didn't get paid today
So i'm in the lost and found
And i wonder if that clown knows just what to do
What to say and what not to
The pretty words that you whispered
Maybe i misunderstood
Somebody's not paying attention
What they promised and their word isn't good
Everything's okay
I'm looking for you now
Down here by the bay
Where the water pounds
Up against the wall
That i'm coming to
Because i can't stay away from you
I don't need no satisfaction
And i don't take just because i can
Sometimes i get a strong impression that you just don't understand
That kind of man
Everything's okay
I can see your face
Don't there in the waves
Painted and erased
But i'm told it's just the reflection of the moon
A big fake resembling you
I'm gonna go down in the water
And fill my mouth up full of sand
And i'll be waiting still impatient with my dead imagination
While you're with some other man
Everything's okay
I'll be with you soon
I'm walking out to place
My arms around the moon
Yeah, i'll be with you soon
Just as i'm paid
I'll walk across the water
Everything's okay
Walk on the water
Everything's okay
you can find that song as pretty Mary K on the new moon record :)
I'll always remember Elliott, thanks for getting me through the hard times, and I wish you were still here with us

Sadly nope, looks like Pretty Mary K off of New Moon is the studio version.
Which is sad because honestly I kind of prefer this version.

Who is the idiot that clicks on an Elliott Smith song and then gives it a Thumbs Down vote???!!
he was the last real human
Is he rolling a joint? or cig? Harmonica? Seen this pic a million times but just noticed he's got something in his hands.
I don't think I ever noticed it either. I'm gonna rob it of the mystery, but it looks like a Hershey's Symphony chocolate bar.
looks like a burrito
looks like a burrito to me, that´d make sense considering he´s sitting in front of what looks like a restaurant
Yeah I’ll be with you soon,
Just as soon as I pay.....
Everythings okay with this song and then some, but for everything else, Everything's not okay.
I love you Michelle.

It says on wikipedia he was found dead with 2 stabbings on his chest. But the proofs are inconclusive if it was a homicide or a suicide....I mean...
