    John.........You need to take a deep dive into Led Zeppelin. There is so much greatness from this band. Back in the day no one could touch them. They were known as the greatest band in the word by a vast majority of people. Rock on John!

      It's a perfectly accurate cover, insanely good.

    Even though Physical Graffiti was released February 24, 1975 this song was recorded at Stargroves during the Houses of the Holy sessions in 1972. Writing for the song actually started in 1970. A rock journalist appropriately described this album as "the aircraft carrier" of rock albums because of the way it majestically cuts through the ocean. An absolute monster and landmark record.

    Believe it or not, this song started as an acoustic blues number way back during the sessions for the 3rd album. It would later get worked on during the Houses of the Holy sessions and finally find its way here. Jimmy has a nice and neat solo while John Paul Jones' single note bass line beneath the moving guitar riffs give a hint of the direction of a lot of future 80s hits which were played from a rhythm standpoint. Robert's lyrics give a bit of wistfulness of a simpler time where "if we could just join hands" and wonders how "all this squander of earthly plunder will leave us anything to show" and asks "Is the new world rising from the shambles of the old". Only snippets of this was played live; often they'd start this before switching up to play Sick Again. Please do the whole discography. Go in album/track order and be amazed.

    I was 13 years old and lived in Phialdelphia Pa. when John Bonham died in 1980. Philly was the next scheduled city on their tour and I watched grown adults sobbing publicly everywhere? It was a really big deal in our neighborhood. Guys had ticket stubs...can't imagine wtf they would be worth now today?

    Yeah, sadly a very short discography due to the unexpected death of Bonham. Yet, they still hold the record for number of album sales (just behind the Beatles), which says a lot about how enduring their music has been. Fresh like it was just today that they released an album. It would be great if you went through their entire discography staring from the beginning and hearing their progression through the years. Cool stuff. :)

    Many of the songs on the album were from earlier recordings that were reworked for the album. I am not sure if this is one of them. Physical is a double album, and many feel its their best album. Including me. This song was a minor hit on the radio. But Kashmir is a monster hit for them, and Trampled Underfoot is a fan favorite and lesser hit.
    Zeppelins first 2 albums came out the same year, and their first 4 came out the first 2-3 years.

    Some tracks on the album were in fact recorded in other recording sessions for albums prior to Physical Graffiti and it was decided to round them up and release the albums as a double albums. I believe the recording session of this album gave enough material for just a single album (40 min)

  • @itsmedrooms6071
    @itsmedrooms6071 11 месяцев назад

    Actually it is early. It was recorded during the fourth album sessions back in ‘71 or so. Physical Graffiti has a number of songs that were recorded earlier, but that never made it onto the albums during which they were recorded.

    This song starts out with kind of a ZZ Top sound. John, have you heard any of the stuff from Zeppelin's 2007 live concert album, Celebration Day? If not, you should really watch some of the videos from it. My favorite is "Kashmir". Of course, Jason Bonham (the late John Bonham's son) plays drums and does his dad proud. Enjoy!

    not a huge zep fan, but Bonzo is dead on. VH use to play this in their club daze. doesn't come too far away from Zep, but that was their day playing what was popular then.

    The thing is that some of these tracks from this album are actually from previous album sessions and were never used on the album. This one was recorded during the sessions for the fourth Zeppelin album which was released in 1971.

    Good on you for having a slightly scandalized note to your voice when you thought they might have released an album after Bonham's death! LOL, you would be right to chastize them hads they gotten a new drummer, as many bands would have. but they knew there was no replacing "Bonzo," and so disbanded, tragically but appropriately. ANd it WOULD be "so easy" to get thru their "small" discography. Many reactors do! It's called "The Zeppathon," and well worth it, lol.

    Yes - please go through their discography!!! going from LZI in order to In Through The Out Door (and then CODA) is very enlightening and quite the experience. Many, many surprises. If you want raw LZ, the filmed performance in 1970 at Royal Albert Hall is it. Thanks for the wonderful reaction. Checking out your Patreon. ☮

    This song was originally recorded in 1970! Page did totally power metal cords on this song! I don't know we got country from this is definitely not country! Best Guitar outro from Jimmy Page! And Greta Van fleet is more like the Black crowes and Georgia satellite than Zeppelin! Greta Van fleet don't have any metal power cords in their songs!
