Plant recorded the vocals for this whole album while he was in a wheelchair recovering from the automobile accident.
This is one of the most beautiful straight-up blues songs I know. So many panned it back in the day because it was so slow…but man, is it so full of deep feeling. Robert was so depressed at being away from his family. Page and Plant performed this during their 1995/1996 tour. Very moving
I remember Page saying something along the lines that he had to go deep to do the solos on this song. It’s definitely deep.

One of their very best blues and most underrated tune. Only Jimmy Page sounds like that, unbelievable tone! Speaking of his unreal guitar skills, Page and Plant got back together in the 90s, they did a scorching set at the Amnesty International benefit show in 1998, they do an amazing Babe, I'm Gonna Leave You, with Page doing an amazingly unexpected solo and even more extraordinary than his usual brilliance that was so good that Robert Plant was gazing at him in amazement! Very much worth searching for. Brilliant stuff, enjoy! 🎵🎸🎤🎹🎶

Robert’s expression doesn’t strike me as amazement so much as as it does interest or oerhaps a bit of annoyance that he was going on so long. When they got back together…..long solos by Jimmy were kind of off the table. It was Robert’s band now. I will say that that was a great solo though….loved it.
Many call this a bookend to Since I’ve Been Loving You. Roberts voice has matured here….and it’s so full of pain and yearning.
The intense emotion in Jimmy's playing on this song and Since I've Been Loving You. The blues LZ plays is just so, so good. I just love your reaction. This song still has that impact on me. Thanks. ☺☮

Oww. That's exactly how we Zep fans felt first the time we heard one of their masterpieces like this one. Correction, the song is not about Robert felling homesick while on tour but the following. Zeppelin made their final live apperance on May 1975 in Earls C. gigs in England. they decided to took a break for the summer, while on holiday in Greece Rob's wife at the time Maureen lost control of the car and they had a serious accident. She got blood tranfusion and had to be transfered to England to continue to recover while Rob broke his hips and several bones. However he could not return to England until the end of that year coz of tax obligations, so he would not lost 1/2 of his money in taxes. So he stayed for months away of his wife and kids, that's what the lyrics is about. The one song he wrote one the road while tired of being on tour is also on this album, but has little to none reference to that matter. Achilles last stand!!
The Band was self-exiled (from England) during an income tax dispute with the government. They were away from families back home, and not sure when they would return. Robert penned the lyrics sitting alone in a NY hotel waiting for band members to arrive for rehearsals.

Some of Jimmy Page's -- or ANY guitarist's -- most emotional licks. Soul-caressing, or even at times , dare I say, wounding. Pair that up with Plant's genuinely sad voice singing about longing, and you have a song that can easily make you -- as Christopher Hitchens once said about how he inevitably felt reading Wilfred Owen's deeply affecting poems about the First World War -- "a bit moist"!
regarding the concept for the title , there was a popular song from1920's called tea for two, much covered if slightly corny it became a jazz standard etc - the expression is short hand for being loved up and in a couple. so RP has taken the reverse idea for this song- you were exactly right about the meaning. I can't say i have favourite led zeppelin songs because i love them all like children - it really depends which one you are listening to at the time, but this is one of the ones i couldn't live without , the guitar is mesmerising. There will never be enough of jimmy Page playing guitar in this world. you mentioned that your familiarity with LZ is based on mothership andthat is a good start but you have to listen to all the albums if you don't want to miss out on the extraordinary album tracks - like tea for one. Apart from anything else they were genius at constructing albums and by doing this random selection method you miss out on a sense of the albums and the development and evolution of the band. Chronological from the first album is the best way - even if you just try this on the first album to see how you get on. LZ album tracks are as good and notable as other bands singles - i am certain you will be very glad not to miss out on them.all love xxx

Teas for One. Best song on the Presence album, and a Top 10 all-time Zepp song. Incidentally, Tea for One is about Robert Plants son's death and the usual distractions aren't working and he's living in a hotel recording this album, having tea for one, but you already knew that. And you've most definitely heard this song before.
Presence is an extremely underrated/unappreciated album. Prior to the album's recording, Robert and his family had been in a car accident where Robert sustained multiple injuries, including a broken leg, while his wife almost perished. In addition, the band as a whole were considered "tax exiles", meaning if they stayed too long in England, their income would be taxed at a much higher rate. To get around this, they had to leave England. Normally they'd just go on tour, but with Robert's broken leg, that wasn't a possibility so Robert went to Jersey, off the English coast, then Malibu, California, where Jimmy joined him and convinced him they should record since they couldn't tour. Jonesy and Bonzo would join them before they all went to Munich to do the actual recording. Robert was in a bad way for multiple reasons; having to be away from his family during such a difficult time after the car crash, stuck in a hotel where the usual distractions weren't working, while working on an album he didn't feel like doing with feelings of loneliness while drinking tea for one. This song, to me, conjures up feelings of exquisitely luxurious pain and despair. The guitar is speaking as clearly as the lyrics; you can hear it cry out in anguish, as it describes its tale of suffering and heartache, and a sound of almost resignation to its fate. Musical perfection wrapped in a cloak of somber beauty. If you want a 'novel-length' song, try Zep's "Carouselambra". It's a *deep* cut off of the album In Through The Out Door. It's got definite prog-rock sensibilities and I'd be curious as to what you'd make of it.
Bought The LP When It Came Out in 1976. Been Listening To Zeppelin Since Their Debut. I Normally Don't Have a "Favorite" Track From Bands that I Listen To. For Over 47 Years This Song Is The Exception. Hands Down "Tea For One" Is My Favorite Song From Led Zeppelin.
Plant has the perfect vocals for all the songs, but he definitely does Justice to Blues. They loved the Blues since they were young teens, running out to buy Blues records, anytime new ones arrived in England. I know Page & Plant both have extensive record collections, each in the thousands.

Bonham was married in (1966), with his Passing his wife has never remarried, & still lives in their home. They were high school sweethearts. JPJ married in (1967) & is still married to his wife. Plant married in (1968) him & his wife divorced in like (1982), & still remain friend, he’s never remarried. Plant & his wife lost their 5 year old son in (1977), while the band was touring in the US, the band didn’t tour for about 18 or so months. I’m not sure what year Page was married, but he was married twice.
Mothership isn't an actual Led Zeppelin album, it's just a compilation of songs.
Back to their blues roots. i always wonder why no one reacts to John Mayall and the Bluesbreakers which by far has had an A to Z list of the most famous members
Anytime you hear more then one electric guitar, Jimmy is playing those parts. One of their songs, I can’t remember right off hand, in studio Page played like 8 different guitar pieces. When preformed live, he used one & made it still sound amazing. This is an incredible Blues song, & I love it. Thanks for your reaction.

Well, “Genius” is incorrect about the aftermath of the Accident in Rhodes: Robert and his family were all flown back to England to get proper medical care. Maureen almost died. Robert and the rest of the band subsequently went to the US to avoid paying taxes on their income, which at that time , in the highest bracket was somewhere around 75%. Other high earning British bands were doing the same….staying out of England for six months of the year.
So….Maureen was recovering from serious injuries, Robert was in a wheelchair because of his injuries (shattered ankle for one) …..and they were separated. Robert was very depressed during this period.

John Slop was a dish my brother always made for hunting camp. It was a bunch of stuff with (chicken or wild game or ?) rolled up in tortillas with sour cream, a can of soup and a bunch of cheese on top. It's pretty good.

The British tea ceremony, while not as revered as the Japanese or for that matter Russian, is indeed communal
The most deceptive intro they ever did. Classically melodic straight blues follow. One of their very best.

You are entitled to interpret the song any way you want but when you metioned alcohol I believe you were on the right track but tea is a street name for PCP, he also metions "tea" in "Misty Mountain Hop" if you would like to check that out. I would not understand "tea" in this context to mean "Lipton Ice Tea".
You should probably listen to the albums themselves, the way they were meant to be heard. It'll be like hearing them for the first time.
The corporate media hated Zeppelin because they would kiss asses. The best ever, by a long shot.
