Dark side of the globe means...the other side of the world. When it's day on one side of the earth it's night on the other. From all the touring they did, it wasn't an uncommon occurrence for them.

The dark side of the globe refers to the areas of the earth where the sun has set at a given time. For example, when it is daytime in America, it is night in Australia, due to the time difference.
Due to the curvature of the earth, the sun doesn’t illuminate all parts of the planet simultaneously. Some places experience daylight while others experience dark.
