We're back with our "top 5" video series where we show DJ's our pick for the best in a particular DJ equipment category. Today we've released our Top 5 DJ Controllers that cost less than $400. This list doesn't have any particular order, but we've chose different manufacturers and different software types to be sure every base is covered for a wide range of users. Our Top 5 list includes the Traktor Kontrol S2 MK2, the Pioneer DDJ-RB, the Pioneer DDJ-SB2, the Numark Mixtrack Platinum, and the Hercules DJControl Jogvision. Check out the full video and the summary of each below and let us know your picks in the comments section!
I owned an S2 and wound up selling it. The X1 mk 2 and Audio 2 cost the $100 less (both include a $50 voucher that can be used to purchase the full Traktor Pro license). A simple mapping of the effects section to control EQs and gain makes this very full featured for non Scratch DJs. Moreover, scratch DJs prefer DVS and an X1 fits perfectly between two decks next to a DJM 250, 450 or Allen & Heath Xone 23C.
The benefits of modular controllers are that they work in DJ booths. In addition the x1 is great with DVS setups while the S2 is a bit awkward in the booth and with DVS.
an X1 can have.
Finally, a 2018 video could look at controllers under $299 if it includes the modular Traktor controllers. Traktor heads won't complain if we are repped by the X1 mk II and an Audio 2 - plus demonstrating the X1 really clarifies whether you want Serato or Traktor by showing hardware that has a bigger variation in the design/form factor.
Mixtrack Platinum takes the cake on this list, it takes a lot of features from $500+ controllers. Plus the LED jogwheel feature alone is something u wont see under $300.
I absolutely LOVE my mixtrack platinum, and use the hell out of the lcd displays.
Sometimes, I regret buying the DDJ-SB2 as soon as it came out, because shortly thereafter, both the DDJ-RB and the Mixtrax Platinum came out, which offer much more functions for the same price. But still, the SB2 wasn't the worst decision either. It has every essential feature you need to put out a decent mix, even at small parties or events. I used it at several occasions (even at a club one time), and it never disappointed me. I also managed to get a hold of a very cheap Serato DJ offer, so I didn't have to waste that much money in order to get a full pro DJ software. BUT: If you're like me and just want to start DJing at home or small parties, better grab the Platinum or RB - they are a much better value!!
ITX Official i have never touched a DJ controller in my life which one would you recommend for me?
Emper0r I would say RB for the price
or Roland DJ-202
The best thing about the video is the sweater
Ignacio Bustillos true story
Ignacio Bustillos shut up
Ignacio Bustillos fuck man
HM GAMING who shit in your cornflakes
Lol
This list is accurate for folks with under $400.
Most videos I watch titles, "Under e.g. $300" but they end up showing around $350-400. Love this video! Thanks
What's your top 5 under $300
Nice selection Kareem, still valid today. What is common with all these controllers : even though some are made for specific dj software, they are all fully compatible and plug and play with VirtualDJ 8.
Hard battle !
I really liked the Numark Pitch slider !! Its cool to set more accuracy of the bpms...
My favorite controller is Numark mixtrack pro 3 and i love it so much
my Denon MC4000 is also $400 and its the best over all these :-(
DJ Tyme 209 you still liking you MC4000?
Gotta go with the full-sized pitch faders.
It's fx controls and pitch faders feel so comfortable to work with
I think this should be labeled "top controllers under $300" not $400. I still want to say thanks for taking your time to inform us on all the equipment, I watch all your videos. I'm hoping you can do a video on new or expected controller upgrades for this summer. I'm looking to buy a new controller but not sure if I should wait. The only new unreleased controller I know about is the NS6II. Happy Easter!
why is that the case? If we have to name 5 of them, then this is my list... The MC4000 is an honorable mention but the other controllers are almost half the price at 250...
Can you make Top 5 DJ controllers under $3000 ?
The Denon MC4000 is an excellent controller.
U NAILED IT
Great video bro, and the hair is lookin fresh to death!
LOL, thanks.
thx so much for this video

Mene muci koji da kupim controller ako imas savjet koji?
Ugly Toaster
Ugly Toaster zasto si ti sad to isprico
Wow, you're so cool... or just awfully pretentious.
Thank you n keep up the good work!
Very helpful video, thanks
my favourite DJ Controller is the Numark Mixtrack Quad
I love the Quad. It was and is my first controller. my pitch slider started moving on it's own within the VDJ program. so it continues to speed up and slow down the song that I load. Smh so i'm upgrading at least I hope it's an upgrade to the Numark Mix Platinum.
love the video much appreciated. which one do you recommend that has full everything?
For my money, I will stick with the highly underrated Gemini G2V!
Dope vid!!!
This is so cool i want one of this
Nice Video!
Lovin' the Bloodsport hoodie!
Thanks! That movie is CLASSIC!
Great video. I will share it
Im a beginner dj just starting out still learning I was recommended the Pioneer Dj DDJSR2 do you think that’s to complex for me as a beginner and what would you recommend?
I recommend the SR2. To me it's the sweet spot between beginner equipment and Pro
what do u think about DDJ Wego1 in comparison with thease controllers?
WEGO is pretty good. I like that because you can use it with other hardware like tablets and phones as well...
Hi, I'm looking for a ddj rig to do some sample scratching in a band (like what Chris Kilmore did with Incubus, or what DJ Lethal did with Limp Bizkit). So, as far as I'm aware all I need is a controller with 2 decent jog wheels and a robust fader but all I can find are items that are either way more complex (and expensive) than I need, or just feel flimsy and weak. Does anyone have any suggestions? Many thanks
Any one of these will get you well on your way!
Good job bro
thx bro. great info.
can you make a video of under 200, and also make a video of the uses of a dj controller?
That Hoodie though!
Thanks! It's one of my favorites.
Which do you recommend the Hercules jogvision or the ddj sb2
Pioneer ddj-rb, pioneer ddj-sb2 or numark mixtrack platinum for small clubs?
Whats the best standalone controler with no laptop?
woww. thanks man for the info nvm can u give me a cheap controller any for begginer because i im 2years of mixing.i think u do man😉
Can you also do a tutorial on the 6 channel Pyle mixer?
Whats better pioneer ddjsb2 or hercules jogvision??
what is the best 4 channel controller under 400. I need something to compare with the gemini g4v
nice and very informative video especially for beginners like me. i`m currently deciding between the numark platinum and the hercules jogvision. I need a 4 deck controller, is it possible to connect these controllers to a software like traktor and play a third und fourth song on the software? thanks :)
Hi. Do you do shipping on the products?
Thanks for the interesting video! I'm trying to make a decision on my first DJ controller purchase. What I find tricky is comparing older vs newer controllers in the same price range. I was wondering if you had any advice on how these newer controllers compared to the Hercules RMX 2, which I'm thinking of purchasing?
These are all better than the RMX2...
Real stuff.. it aint no joke
can you tell me please how do i download and connect virtual dj with hercules jogvision..
Thanks for your advice,Does it make a difference as to what mixer you use in terms of sound quality,I've got some big bookings coming up and i'm in the process of upgrading as i seem to be pleasing people and getting 3 to 4 bookings per venue i do
If you have $400, then go for the MC4000 by Denon as this is built the best. They all have similar sound quality though.
Can you answer my question that is can we connect our android phone to the hecules instinct s series
Awesome vid dude very helpful. Now the real question is which Software is the best overall....I know though question but what do you suggest for a beginner and something that i can improve on? cheeers from tunisia
I like Serato DJ Intro for beginners because its simple and it works well, but you can go up to the Serato DJ upgrade when you get more familiar with it...
Many thanks man
I dunno if I'll get a notification from a reply, but I'm looking for something to make beats and dj some too I'm a beginner so I don't know much, but I like the hercules jog vision the most cuz the beat pads but do the pioneer work as beat pads too? Or any other controller in the sub 400 have beat pads too? hope this makes senses thanks
You basically need a DJ controller to DJ with and you need a production style controller to make beats with... They really aren't the same things and you need one of each. These are mainly to just DJ with...
Thanks
DJbooth Pro Audio that's totally wrong! You don't need one of each. The shown controllers come with a special DJ software because their audio interfaces are build to work with only this software (at least most of them). But all buttons, faders and knobs are just sending and receiving MIDI data. No matter if you use a DJ software like Traktor or a producing software like Ableton Live, you can map your controller to every function and in every way you like. I've seen people firing loops and samples in Ableton Live with a Traktor X1 controller and a friend of mine used to DJ at home with a Novation Nocturn 49 and Virtual DJ.
Kalle Kohx depends the controlar because sometimes one button is grounded to the rest
K FR3SH that doesn't change the fact, that you can map the controller in every way you like, als long as your software supports MIDI mapping. It can happen, that you can't map every single button, but in most cases you can use a MIDI controller in every way you like, either as DJ controller or for producing.
For begginirs the gémini mix2go is not a bad choice, but i agree with his list
Should i buy ddj rb
how about the American Audio vms5.0 is that any good?
asking bout the numark ipad mixer do I have to have a ipad r can I use any tablet with the mixer
He reminds me of Michael Che from SNL 😂
Which one would be better to mix house, techno music..?? Im a beginner..!!
Traktor Kontroll S2 MkII because Traktor is the best for Techno and House music... Thanks me later! :D
ill start with a ddj rb
i think I would get the ddj sb2 am not sure tho
On that Hercules controller can you use the full version of serrato DJ ???
Yes it will...
Thanks for the vid!
Which controller has the best soundcard sound quality?
Probably the S2MK2
how the Jogvision sound quality compares with the Pioneer?
About the same at this price level...
which one will work the best for a begginer club dj?
DDJ RB or DDJ RR if your budget is a bit higher than 300 dollars. DDJ RB (or DDJ RR) because Pioneer is Club standart, and its better to start with pioneer and rekordbox, because if you went to a club you will work with cdjs.
where did you buy this hoodie ;)))?
fair enough that's true jst ed at the date of your vid,Whats the pioneer ddj ergo v like?I heard it's really good and in line with these models and cheaper
The DDJ-ERGO is ok, but these are better as they all have the pads and more new style features.
do those every controllers work with serato dj?
is there one in particular u would suggest to a DJ starting out?
Check the Denon MC4000 and all the others on this list.
Is the Traktor S2 worth buying? im thinking about starting to practice DJ'ing and am total noob. The reason why im thinking about Traktor S2 or S4 (probably the S2 cos its cheaper) is cos i have the Maschine Studio and i love the NI software. So is the S2 worth buying for a noob? Or do i need to practice first on a different controller?
If you love NI software, then the S2MK2 is an excellent choise... Go get it! lol
Haha ye i think ill get it xD but was thinking if it is a good choice for a beginner :D
Personally i Think you should go to a shop with a trustworthy friend that knows how to use a controller and can give you their honest opinion. I have had the s4 for over 7 years and given it some hammer. so i can confirm that native instruments do make a solid controller
No DENON?
Can I buy s2 is good or noot
Are any of these compatible with an iPad Pro and Algoriddim DJay software as well as laptops?
Not any of these...
I bought my sx close to 400 a couple years ago
I just bought a DDJ SX2 and paid $125 for my first payment. They sent it in 2 days! Monthly payments, NO INTEREST, NO CREDIT, BAD CREDIT, GOOD CREDIT (better plans), AND GUARANTEED LOW PRICES! Sound too good to be true? Why do you think I made an entire blog around it? Thank me later! www.thedjpro.co
U 4got about the pioneer wego 4.
I love the flux
I have never touched a DJ controller in my life. Which one would you recommend for me from this list?
Have you used DJ turntables? If so, then the Jogvision by Hercules would work...
DJbooth DJ's i am a proper beginner haven't used anything before
In that case, any one of these will work the same for you. Pick the one you think you like the best and you can't go wrong...
DJbooth DJ's appreciate the help. Thanks :D
Najde kontroler ?
Ddj rb vs jogvision..??
Traktor Kontrol S2 or Pioneer ddj rb?
All depends on which software you like better honestly...
Has anyone tried the Hercules? Which software ia it using? Does it come with a free one? I've been playing with the cheapest Hercules air, but now it's time to upgrade to smth new
I think it uses DJuiced or something like that... These are all a clear upgrade to the Hercules lineup...
I want to know the skrillex style dubstep I can't choose
hey bro,
what brand of studio monitors u have there next to the turntables. im looking into purchasing very good but reasonably priced monitors.
They are Epsilon monitors... Pretty cheap 8-inch models. They do hum a bit when nothing is playing through them though...
thanks bro
Yo Dude, whats up...?
Can you download rhekordbox on a Mac ?
Yes you can.
What's the best standalone controllers
Either the Pioneer XDJ-RX OR the Denon MCX-8000...
There's the Gemini G4V ..
what about vestax vci 400 ???
What are your thoughts on the Number mixtrack pro 3?
It's great for a beginner... I have reviewed it on my channel also... Go check it out.
Guys, does anyone hear about Vestax VCI 400, i bought it as my first controller, coz i see it from one guy, whos working as dj. and i found that festax is a long time dead company. Is it ok that i bought one? hope its not outdated, it looks pretty solid. Would be nice to hear any opinion
I still have my VCI-400 because it works REALLY well with Traktor and with Serato and its built like a Tank! It has basically all the features you will need and its a standalone mixer as well. Good work.
Thank you Sensei, that was very important opinion, i'll keep it. one dude told me to swap it for some pioneer controller...
What is the price?
What d'ya think 'bout Gemini CDM4000?
It's a cool dual CD player, but a controller is probably better to go with at this point.
Thanks
What is that pioneer mixer at the back with the blue knobs?
That's a Traktor Certified Pioneer DJM-T1... It's essentially a Traktor Z2 but in Pioneer's brand style...
im a beginner, which is the best standalone dj controller? help!
If you mean without a computer, then it has to be either the MCX8000 or the XDJ-RX2
DJBooth Pro Audio thank you so much for your help. And to your channel too
Thank you for watching!
Traktor Kontrol s2 mk2!!!!
I have had the original Traktor Kontrol s4 For since 2011. It's had a lot of hammer and still going strong
Have the s2 and mk2 still the best controller I have used . I used even the Roland DJ 505 . Traktor jogs are the most accurate
HERCULES JOGVISION or DDJ RB???
DDJ-RB for the software combo!
DJbooth DJ's thanks bro!
the Numark mixtrack platinum will it work with virtual DJ ?
Marlon Green he said yeah
Yes, it will. Just about every controller on this list is midi mappable, meaning it can be used with any midi software. I personally have the mixtrack platinum... It worked okay with VDJ. I much preferred Serato DJ Intro to VDJ, and now use the full version of Serato DJ and its the best of the 3. Just my 2 cents, but yes, it will work with VDJ.
I need a DJ Controller that I can use to scratch old school hiphop. Any ideas?
Any one of these...
Team Traktor
anybody who know a Case that goes with the jogvision?
hi kareem. is redkordbox dj reliable software to use at gigs
Matt Briggs as long as your laptop has the required software requirements you should be good
Yes it is!
Why ain't Roland dj-202 on this list?
It's an old video, dude :)
Why isn't the numark pro 3 in here?
Because the Mixtrack Platinum is the replacement! It's in the list.
numark nv 2
this japanese black guy look so cool man
cant wait till the price of controllers are like calculators.....when calculators first came out they were over 500 bucks...and that was a lot back then for ppl using punch cards.....this means in 2040...controllers may be in cereal boxes and dollar stores....
