- In this video, my son Kane and his good friends talk about their experiences while working in the Bob Marshall Wilderness. Mark and Claire, the owners of 406 Wilderness Outfitters also share some thoughts about their Wilderness lifestyle. Their Outfitting Business dates back generations, its not an easy life and defiantly not for the weak of heart.

What caliber do you hunt with
I myself use a 6.5 creedmore, I use it mainly for deer. Its been a long time since I've used a rifle for elk, although my sons have taken a few elk with it
I grew up in Columbia Falls. My dad use to do trail clearing contracts for the forest service. I spent most of my childhood days riding horses in the Bob Marshal and the Great Bear and the Sun River well everything south of Glacier.
That's a hell of a way to spend your childhood, don't get any better than that!!
:) so nice to see this , lil late in coming for me but i see it now :) . i worked in the bob as a guide for ron curtis , curtis outfitters out of kalispell 37 yrs ago for a couple seasons . worked harrison , spotted bear , meadow creek , lost jack ,, have wanted to come back to spotted bear lookout tower and work the season . we had a base camp at harrison and spike camps on the lil salmon , i came back 4-5 times since to fish and so sorry to say the area has been discovered . use to if i saw 3-4 people i thought well thats how it is sometimes , the zero people for the 10 days was the way i liked it , my last trip i counted to 100 people and quit counting , but it was the main trail and the south fork so what can ya say .
young boys , you`ll have your experiences and thoughts of packin , wreckin roundin up the herd runnin and jumpin fartin and kickin up for the rest of your lives :) , and you`ll likely start grinnin as ya do .
Thanks for your comment, there are great memories in the wilderness for sure, glad you got to experience it as well. Your right about all the people on the river nowadays, the rafters coming down it in July is insane. You go right now and you wouldn't see too many folks.

Had the opportunity to hunt with Mick & Matt Cheff many years ago. Got an autographed copy of the book written by Micks father & shown in the beginning of this video. Wonderful memories & a wonderful family. Glad to see the next generation keeping the tradition.

My grandfather was one of the founders of the back Country Horseman originated in Montana and he spent tons of time in "The Bob". He harvested some nice bulls from the Bob and I hope I get to experience the beauty and nature of montana backcountry . Great video and enjoy every moment , it is the true way of life and many sadly cannot experience that.

Great story. I grew up backpacking the Bob Marshal and Scapegoat Wilderness. Always figured I'd come back to MT, but I am not ready to hang up my boots nor is my wife willing. Thanks for stirring up some great memories. The video also got me to buy the book.

Great job capturing and editing this experience. These young men will treasure this time for years to come. Hunters and clients often say how lucky guides and outfitters are without realizing just how much work goes into it.
