    What is your favorite front tire?

      Just like you, the DHR II. I just swapped from a stock MaxxTerra EXO DHR II to a MaxxGrip DD Assegai on my Canyon Spectral. Before that, on my old bike, I ran a MaxxGrip DH Casing DHR II.
      Sure, the MaxxTerra DHR II had a tendency to slip on loose dust, but the Assegai just threw me off with how numb it felt. Like, I want to like and keep the Assegai until it wears down. It's grip incarnate. But it just feels numb, and the fact that it doesn't leave tire marks on the trail means that the Assegai likes to ride on top of the soil and stick to it like tape, as opposed to something that grabs onto the soil, like velcro. Weird analogy, but I think you get it.
      With the MaxxGrip compound, the DHR II is velcro. You can hear the side knobs grab and rip through the soil, and you can feel the ripping sensation through your hands. For me, its one advantage over the Assegai is that it's a communicative tire. It lets you feel the trail condition and adapt accordingly. It allows you to be precise. The Assegai relies more on bravery and trust, which I admit I lack, lol.
      So with this review, I'm definitely excited for the High Roller to start coming in with DD casing.

      Everyone loves the Assegai as a front, but the DHR is a great option too. I'm running 2.6 EXO+ MaxxTerra DHR front and rear on my 160/150 e-bike (with cush core), after having run DHR front/Dissector rear for a few months. Until I started converting my 150/130 trail bike into a quasi-park bike (currently 2.6 DD MaxxGrip Assegai front/rear with cush core, lol), it was DHR front/Rekon rear, which also performed great but in hindsight I think I'd have preferred to try the Forekaster on the rear, which I still want to try this winter/fall. But I'm not sure DHR front is going to last for me after trying the Assegai, which is just insanely confidence inspiring, so much so that I don't really care about the rolling speed.
      When you ran DHR front on the T.E.M.P.O, what did you have on the rear?
      I'm really interested in the High Roller 3 due to the incredibly loose and dusty conditions at my local parks, Dodge Ridge and Northstar. Too bad it's only presently offered in 2.4, but presumably there will be more soon.
      I'm so addicted to 2.6 wide tires I really wish Maxxis offered them in more DD/MaxxTerra for rear and EXO+/MaxxGrip for front. I personally haven't tried this combo of compounds/casings, but after watching/reading a ton of tire content this year, its definitely next on my list. I also want to try a faster rolling tire like even the Dissector in DD/MaxxGrip on the rear, but I'd rather not compromise on width. And after trying the DD/Grip Assegai front and rear at Northstar this weekend, I think it's a bit too much of a good thing (I'm going to stick with it for at least one more weekend tho), so I'm skeptical of using a pretty draggy tire like the DHR in Grip on the rear.

      So would you take the high roller over Asegai now?

      @PeterJamison  2 месяца назад

      @@billydeewilliams8909 When I had the DHR in the front on the Tempo, I also had it in the rear. For me the DHR as a rear tire is my baseline, and I hardly go away from it. That said, I have a DD Dissector 2.4 I am going to toss on this week as my DHR is on the way out. Glad you are enjoying the way a 2.6 feels for you!

      For front range the Assegai and Kryptotal are your best front tires, we have mostly loose over hardpack, which the loam surfer tires like the HR3 and Argotal aren't optimal for. Dissector up front on a short travel bike works surprisingly well. The Dissector works well in our conditions as a back tire when paired with an Assegai up front.

    Love a DHR and DHF combo. Double Down casing with cushcore. Probably overkill but I love to bang and have some smash insurance! I often rock the high roller too. Sweet tire. I got weird and ran an assegai in the back on King Kong last year and cleaned it so who the heck knows 🤷🏻🤘🏼

    Great comparison video! I just got the new DHRII 2.5 on a couple of bikes- it has noticeably more volume than the 2.4 version and a plusher ride for sure. This new High Roller is intriguing for the loose- the knob spacing looks great. When the DD and possibly Exo+ versions come out I'll have to try them. Too bad it doesn't come in a 2.5 width!

      Hopefully 2.5 width one day for the HR3! That would be unreal. I have yet to ride the 2.5 DHR, but I am looking forward to it! Thanks for watching ✌🏼

    I would assume it's similar to the Argotal. For the Colorado front range we're mostly loose over hardpack and the Argotal is not great here, but the Kryptotal might be the perfect front tire for here with the Assegai as basically tied with it.

    I cant believe youre just riding that tempo at trestle for fun. What are your suspension settings, are you running it very stiff?

    • @PeterJamison
      @PeterJamison  2 месяца назад +3

      The Tempo rips the bike park! Carries such good speed and with good line choice can handle everything Trestle has to offer. For suspension, I have a bomber air with 180 PSI and a 0.5 spacer, and a Z1 with 2 spacers and 76 PSI. At 175 pounds that is not super stiff by any means, but ramps up enough that I hardly bottom out. I will break down more specifics in my Tempo bike check which will be dropping soon!

    Currently running assegai up front in a 2.5 and a dissector out back in a 2.4. Have to agree that the assegai has a vague feeling as you transition through its profile. Would like something a bit more definitive with ground feedback in the future.
