I have no intention on buying a Vectrex or ever working on one, but I thoroughly enjoyed this video. Very charming and I can only imagine how helpful this would be to someone looking to repair their own Vectrex controller.
Thanks! I searched for tutorials when I needed to find out how to do it and found some good written ones, but none which gave me the video perspective I wanted.
We had one of these at a game shop I worked at a while back. The visuals were incredibly sharp and the games were pretty fun as well. Ended up selling it to a guy who drove around 10 hours to pick it up. Cool video!
Thanks! More Vectrex videos to come!
Excellent video. Descriptive and clear.
Thanks! I’d seen some other tutorials, but wanted to make one that was more concise and hopefully showed the parts clearly. It was fun too film some of those home brew games too - I think I’ll make some videos about them and Pitrex - what do you think?
@@DinoBytes ,,, And that's a another thing... Your attitude made this presentation an upbeat vid with a "you can do it" vibe.
I knew I liked you for a reason, Gordon. I always thought it was for thorough, stellar camera testing. But, no. It's for being a Vectrex owner! I will say, don't ness with me on Scramble. I was the bees knees. I remember my cousin had Intellivision. Man, consoles were so wild in those days...
Hah, thanks! Yeah I loved those 80s consoles. I lusted after an intellivision when I had my vcs but a colecovision cured tgat, and the veccy beat them all! Love the scramble port. Have you played any of the homebrew games? There's an excellent Defender.
@@DinoBytes I have not. My little brother has the console and is well familiar with the modern community and homebrew games. About 4 years ago, I got out my old Logitech wheel and pedals, my PlayStation 2 and played GranTurismo 5 for hours and hours and hours over a long weekend. I then put it away and never took it out again, LOL. I'm bad at managing my time with video games, lol?
@gordon: you always amaze me with your videos, but I I wouldn't have expected a vectrex video. Thanks for that :-)
Thanks! Yeah, I love these old consoles and of them all, the Vectrex was my favourite. More very vids to come!
Thanks for this!
You're very welcome! I hope your Vectrex is fully operational soon!
Mission finally accomplish after 4 decade~
I don't know frogger was also at this console :)
Yeah, it took me 40 years to get round to it, but at least I got it completed in the end! The Frogger game is a home brew by Malian - quite a new version, but very authentic.
I see where Nintendo took their inspiration from now with their Nintendo Switch Joycon drift issue haha. Thanks for the video Gordon :D
Fascinating, I've never heard of it! Looks like I missed out!
You can pick them up 2nd hand sometimes but prices can be several hundred. I pay that again though if mine broke, it's that unique!
Fantastic video, thanks!
You're very welcome!
My first console for Xmas, I went to look for it in my parents attic last year and think my father threw it out all I could find was the controller and 1 game of 4 that i can remember, amazing at 7 or 8 years of age for sure 😊
You can sell the controller if it works... are you in UK?
@@DinoBytes Ireland.. currently have it up for sale for parts or repair the panel needs to be replaced and the 9 pin connector needs replacing
People (even gamers) forget about Vectrex. I have a mint, all original, fully functional system with most game carriages and the screen overlays (which are rare).
It’s funny isn’t it, how just about the only console of this period that anyone talks about is the Atari VCS - which I also love. But so little about the Colecovision. Intellivision and especially the Vectrex, which was / is my favourite of all. I’ve loved getting it out again and playing old and new games on it. Have you explored the home brew scene? There’s some amazing stuff out there…
4:01 I would say using long nose pliers could make the job safer!
If they got deep enough grooves to grab on those tabs.
(or with some wire clippers with one flat side, like I usually do😝)
Oh, it was A PiTrex you talked about😆
..I'm afraid to say, but never had a luck to encounter one single Vectrex here in S. Korea to be honest😔
But anyway🙃🙃
Love that vectorscope (or oscilloscope-like?) display!
Also I'm personally in to versatility of vector image file format like *.svg, (or 'Scalable Vector Graphics')
Like, long gone Macromedia's Shockwave Flash
Nice instructional video👍
(Sorry if my English was kinda weird🙃)
Thank you, and good tip about the pliers. Your English is perfect!
Really enjoyed this video, my controller has this very problem. You said you got your springs from the UK, can you remember where you got them from as I can only find the US ones. Regards.
Hi there, first of all, sorry for not linking to the eBay listing where I bought them! But secondly extra apologies as I just looked it up and they don't have them anymore! So you may have to go to the US for this one. But try searching on eBay anyway. My original listing was "MB Vectrex Video Game System Spare Controller/Joystick Springs"

Thank you so much for taking the time to reply, it is appreciated. I did have a look on ebay, but not sure if I'd be buying the right size spring, so I will go to the US. Thanks again for putting the video up, as I was considering buying a new controller, hopefully I can fix my own at a considerable saving. All the best and have a great Xmas.
@@user-tw9lc7ss9o you're very welcome, sorry I couldn't point you towards a UK supplier anymore! Also if you're not already a member, do join the Vertex Facebook group I mentioned, as there's always someone who's making a cool new controller on there.
