The rabbit on the moon thing is 100% real, Monster Carrot was one of the one off villians in Dragon Ball
And it led into Chinese mythology....as did a lot of early Dragonball that was heavily Influenced by 'A Journey to the West'
If only Monster Carrot became a Z fighter. King Piccolo, the saiyans, Frieza, Cell, -maybe Buu. All turned into carrots. Nothing could stop him.
Then Roshi killed him. As far as we know anyway. There's a game where he survived but as far as I'm concerned Roshi killed him and his goons during that world martial arts tournament

They had no right giving Perfect Cell the coldest lines ever.
“That you let him die” and “You couldn’t fathom the amount of dead men behind me” live rent free in my head.
Fun fact: The green tile was an animation error in the original show that TFS referenced for some busy work for Cell.
I love how cold cells lines are in this episode it only a fraction of his great lines but the "does gohan know, that you let him die" hits hard
Cell is in a Mission not just to physically beat down his opponents but mentally beat down his opponents.
However the only person it doesn’t work on is Goku.
Also, the "You couldn't fathom the amount of dead men behind me" line is just so freaking cold. It's a shame really how little of a reaction it tends to get from various reactors.
Well, King Cold is also a part of his DNA.
I remember watching this episode for the first time when it came out, and I actually had to pause the video for a few seconds right after he said it just to process how savage that line was.
Literally, just sat on my bed, stared at the wall, and said, “Oh…Taka…” out loud. It’s one of my favourite lines in the show, but DANG did it hurt!

I think its cause it immediately follows two other great lines from Cell and Trunks, which do build up to that line as an epic smackdown, but I think all too often, reactors are still reacting to the last two and so miss it or it gets swallowed up and becomes part of the reaction that is already underway. I feel ya though. That, for me, is one of the hardest hitting lines in the entirety of DBZA.

One of the towns that appear in Cell's list of absorbed cities is called Penguin Town. In that town a cartoonishly broken character from Akira Toriyama lives there: Arale. TFS theorized that Cell indeed went there, met Arale, fought her and basically said "screw this" and left the town alone because not even Goku can fight against Arale's BS.
The list of destroyed towns is also in alphabetical order
Only Beerus can defeat a comical gag character.

"Speaking of Goku, it's lunch time!" is a great Japanese joke. ご飯 'Gohan' means meal and Gohan's given name uses the kanji for perception 悟 (pronounced either satoru or go) and the kanji for meal 飯 (pronounced meshi or han but almost always han) 悟飯. So Gohan means meal but Goku's an idiot so he used his own name instead of Gohan's.

The rabbit in question that Goku sent to the moon was a one-off OG Dragon Ball villain, from when the series was still mostly comedy based. Monster Carrot was a rabbit-man mob boss that had the ability to turn people into carrots by touching them, even turning Bulma into a carrot for a short time. After beating him and his goons up, Goku uses the Power Pole to shoot them up to the moon and leave them there... for some reason. (rule of funny, probably) Though of course if you consider the event to still be canon with later events in the series, Monster Carrot and his buddies don't get to live it up on the moon for very long... 🌕💥
Nah, Toriyama said they survived the blasts and were still alive on a little chunk.
It can't really be cannon anyways since it's pretty clearly stated Saiyans can't breath in space so Goku should never have been able to do that in the first place.
Goku put him on the moon because the story if the rabbit on the moon making mochi is a well known story in Japan.
@@techgeekynessGoku wasn't a Saiyan until he was written to be one by the Saiyan Arc. The context of his actions with Monster Carrot is entirely different.
The part of sending a rabbit to the moon is actually real. Is of the first episodes of the OG Dragon Ball wih a rabbit villain that was able to turn people into carrots.
Considering how they have blow up the moon (multiple times) I'm pretty sure he is dead

I always loved how quick and concise they explained how Cell fits into the timeline. It took like half an episode and was somewhat confusing in the original but they made it really easy to digest here.
Honestly, they should've had a little episode with Bulma dealing with baby Trunks extra-than-normal infant strength. I think that would have been a fun episode really. Or Chi-Chi handling baby Goten later on. Just seems like missed opportunities!
Cell's voice is so accurate to the original.

Gotta give Trunks credit for not just saying fuck it, getting into his time machine, and never looking back.
TFS in this season was really great at writing banter between much of the cast, which is why these episodes are some of the best, IMO. "Oh, yes, tell them how you died--I'll FACT-CHECK" or "No dragon in this UNIVERSE will save you from me./[...don'tmakemecomeoverthere...]". Also Cell with his arena building kills me every time lmao. Glad H-Man's back, his laughs are great 😂

14:30 - This always bothered me, even in the original anime. Gohan never saw Cell, in neither of his forms, till now. So how could he have a nightmare about Cell in his Perfect Form, when Cell only obtained this form while Gohan was still inside the Time Chamber?
I think Kai fixed that cause I don't remember the nightmare being in there
I dunno, why does Goku have mind reading capabilities? Why was he able to say up to date while he was recovering from the heart virus and unconscious? Could he use that ability for Gohan to see what Cell looks like in anyway shape or form? Also probably filler if anything.
I was gonna try to justify it with "maybe sensing energy allows you to see the vessel that carries it" but I remembered that they didn't know who Trunks was when he first showed up to face off against Freeza and King Cold and mistook the high energy level for Goku (and Freeza's mom in the abridged). Then again, the mangaka *was* known for forgetting things, like Saiyans having tails, so it's more than likely just a mistake.
It's a filler thing. Goku also got a nightmare where he seens the Androids (17 and 18) killing Krillin, Gohan, Chichi, Trunks and himself despite the fact that he never even saw them at all for all the Cell Saga (and even all of Z for 17).

What I like about Ep 53. it shows Goku isn't entirely an idiot, He's a fighting savant. Anything to do with Martial Arts and Fighting he's a genius, everything else however...

I love the lore and story that TFS wove into DBZA after they got past their "dbz lol" stage in the beginning. For example, Bulma said all scientists know each other. Dr. Kochen (World's Strongest Movie) whips out a gatling gun out of his arm at Krillen. Dr. Briefs here asks 16 if he would like a sick galling gun. XD So clever.
16:20 Nah, that power boost doesn't work if its self-inflicted(except for Cell, but he breaks the rules all the time). That's why Vegeta had Krillin blast him on Namek instead of doing it himself.
IMO Takahata voice for Alucard during Perfect Cell mocking Trunks really sounds the same.

8:00 - this shows the key difference between the two parents. Vegeta intimidated Trunks so Trunks never tried that form around Vegeta, as Trunks thought it would hurt Vegeta's pride. With Goku Gohan likely tried that form and Goku quickly told Gohan the advantage and key disadvantage of using it, so Gohan didn't try to rely on it exclusively.
imagine the difference if Trunks had been willing to try that alternate form vs Vegeta while they were in the hypersonic lion tamer. Vegeta would have been far harsher with Trunks, but would have at least warned Trunks about the weaknesses of it. This warning would have been after Vegeta used used the speed disadvantage to dodge Trunks' attacks and fire strong attacks now that Trunks can better handle the hits.

Remember Goku never went to school. He was raisen by Grandpa Gohan. After his Grandfather died he started his journey and met Bulma.
Yeah Roshi did give him some basic education but he never really picked up on that.

To answer that question, the "zenkai boost" kinda dropped off after Frieza, rather than getting a increase of power, the powerup comes from total understanding of what almost killed you. Its like Saiyans get the ultimate form of Hindsight making it almost impossible to use the same attack on them twice. Either from reading your moves from the previous fight or by training to prevent them from getting trapped by the move in the first place.
Goku often fights last just so he can learn the moves of the opponent and also used this ability to learn techniques of those around him. ie; the Kamehameha he learned after seeing Roshi use it once in DB.

The whole reason Gero hated Goku is for destroying the Red ribbon army; Piccolo's dad was the great demon king (with an army of his children) and the Rabbit mob boss could magic anyone into a carrot.
I don't know about the anime, but the manga of Dragon Ball Super sort of goes into the whole "boost after near death thing". Avoiding spoilers, I will say that they conclude that they abused that so dang much (unintentionally for Goku, VERY intentionally for Vegeta) that they hardly get any boost at all anymore.
When you guys do the Cell Vs videos, make sure you do ALL of them. A lot of people miss the last one after DP
It would take more than a punch to the face to activate the boost, you have get some serious damage. Typically its described as recovering from being 'nearly dead' though they play a little loose with that sometimes as it was mentioned I think at one point in the anime as to why goku made such amazing progress in his relatively short trip to namek ( seriously it only took him like a week to fly there ) was because he was training so hard that he was doing serious damage to his body then using senzu to recover (thus getting a boost ) and doing that over and over for the whole trip over. Or maybe that was a fan theory, hard to keep it all straight sometimes!

Goku otw to namek was using self inflicted zenkai boosts to train, even if he didn't know it. There are even scenes of him firing beams inopposite directions and getting stuck between their impact then crawling to the bag of sensu beans. But it does require near death injuries, not any injury.
The rabbit part happens within the first arc of Dragon Ball, pretty sure within the first 10 episodes in fact, though might be within the first 12 been awhile since I watched it all the way through.
“Can a Saiyan punch themself in the face and heal and get a bunch of power boosts?” Nope. Vegeta mentions on Namek when he gets Krillin to blast him, the near-death beating cannot be self-inflicted for Zenkai Boosts.

So the classical music playing when Cell is making the arena is called the Barber of Seville. The only reason I know that is because of a Bugs Bunny cartoon, which is kinda funny to me cause every other comment is also about a rabbit 😂
🤓Actually, 16 isn't dumb here, he just takes things very literally as well as him having his head damaged so he's disfuncioning during the episodes.
I would recommend watching the "Cell vs" series. It starts after Cell announces his tournament or after episode 55. They're extremely fun to watch, parading and poking fun at other animes and shows. You can either watch after you finish the series or after episode 55 for continuity. Of course, if you guys want to.

Yes, the rabbit is true. Boss Rabbit, a gangster who was terrorizing a town while Goku and Bulma were searching for the Dragon Balls in their original adventure. He liked to turn people into carrots and then threaten to eat them, but Goku in his no fuck giving manner took out the rabbit and his goons, and as punishment used his power pole to carry them all the way to the moon where they had to stay and make mochi. Again, I am not making this up. Also, think about this and then realize that master Roshi blew up the moon later on in the series to turn Goku back into a kid when he transformed into a giant ape during the World Martial Arts tournament.

The zenkai/heal from death boost is pretty vague but seems to specifically trigger when almost literally being on the verge of death. Goku abused the shit out of this on the way to namek by almost killing himself over and over again. Minor wounds will not trigger the boost in power, and it seemingly has a hard cap where it can’t be abused infinitely.

TFS said that they frame Goku as pretty much a savant when it comes to fighting because he's a Saiyan. Fighting is the only thing most of them are really good at. Gohan actually takes more after Goku's father, Bardock, who was a scientist, and who invented that artificial moon Vegeta uses to transform in his first fight ith the group, if you remember that far back.
