    Don't forget that the b58 is going to weight much less than the 2jz, both improving weight distribution, handling , and acceleration, as this car is lighter than the a80 and packs way more tech and modern safety standards. The new a90 is a far superior design

      Not even 200lbs lighter, nothing to write home about. With no backseat, shorter wheelbase and lighter shortblock this car should have topped out at 3100lbs max, not 3351lbs.
      Regardless the MKIV was a GT car, the new one is a sport car. Comparing the MKIV vs its 90s rivals it was a step ahead. Compare the MKV to those same rivals today, its waay behind and i blame the cheap price and partnership cost cutting measures.
      I would have paid $70k+ for a Supra with a toyota engine, better interior, and more transmission options. I just hope the aftermarket and the 2nd generation supras will offer better features. And let's stop kidding ourselves, the B58 may be a decent engine but no one is swapping it into other cars.

    • @10xyourlife65
      @10xyourlife65 5 лет назад +6

      It can't be lighter all at once but it is not going to produce power like the 2JZ does. That's like saying a 200 horsepower 420a will be just as fast as a 200 horsepower 4g63t no not even close because the engines produce power differently and a 2JZ is far superior

  • @supravworld8777

    I completely agree. I watched a lot of videos putting down the 2JZ because so many people wanted to see a 3jz instead of the B58 in the new Supra.

    Quite a bit of misinformation as some have already stated here. A couple things i caught that no one else stated is first, the 2jzgte (USDM) has 540 not 550 injectors stock. Also the USDM has afm/maf + map and you can actually use 1k resistors to avoid the fuel cut when going BPU. My 98 6 speed currently has a resistor and i run 16lbs of boost via a waste gate shim. BPU on a 2jzgte can be had with very little money.
    If you are going to talk about power figures, you need to compare the transmissions too because the V160/V161 is a solid tranny and the B58 transmission, well we still don't have a lot of data out because it's a new(er) engine and there just aren't a ton of 700+hp examples out there.

    You're nothing but a Jz fanboy I suppose, The only downside of B58s is that the block doesn't allow over 800 horses to be pushed to the flywheel safely due to the fact that it has an aluminum block, I agree... BUT.. as a street car why would you even want to go over 700w/hp?? You want to build a dragster? Use a stroked 2JZ.. or LSx maybe? Wan't a reliable Lamborghini killing street car.. Modify the "Already existing" B58 and you're owning maybe over 80% of street legal vehicles.. I would love to have a 2JZ under my the bonnet no doubt.. But if it already has a B58.. Hell I'm not swapping that out.. This is not an informative video what so ever, hence "2JZ is the ultimate winner".. Maybe change the video title to: My absolute personal opinion on the B58 vs 2JZ.

    Great video! However....
    As to the subject of open-deck design, your comments were all wrong. Open deck is indeed less strong, but if it is properly designed [Porsche has done this quite often with no problems], then this works just fine AND it allows far better coolant flow to and from the head.

      Honda B and D series are open deck and can handle power fine. Up to 400 then sleeves start to crack. So yes closed deck is better. It's what made the 2jz Iron block closed deck indestructible. You can add a pressed block guard to the honda engines and then they can handle as much as closed deck. There's 1000 whp b series I've seen watch?v=6HiRMq9IsNg. cylindersupportsystem.com/

    Ok, its a nice video but i think your trying to give the B58 negative reputation because your a JZ guy, you mentioned the block material as its aluminum and it cant handle power because of the centrifugal force. What do you think of a V6 60 degree aluminum block with +2k HP (VR38DETT) ? what about the cam phasing dont you think if it can be controlled well we can raise the power for higher RPM?, B58 have a small 82mm bore dont you think there is ability to bore the liner? we all know as you do the aluminum is much lighter than iron dose it mean anything ? compare 1991 and 2015 in engineering design !!! . im a V8 guy but im honest when it is about POWER

    I am not surprised people will continue praising the 2JZ till this day. Yes, it was a great engine but in stock form it wasn’t all that. I drove one that made 500 hp from a single turbo. It was exactly what you said. The turbo spooled up so late that you had to watch out for the power hitting while mid corners. Yeah, I didn’t like the engine with that 500 HP tune at all.

      @@thatgamertho227 I doubt any head gasket would survive high boost and high compression levels any reasonable amount of time, rods and piston rings also. A lot of these new motors get good torque low end because the turbos are mounted directly to the block, which has an integrated manifold. I'm not certain about this motor, but it is a better design which allows the coolant system to cool the exhaust gasses before entering the turbo. This helps the engine warm up faster, and prevent turbo wear, while shortening the gap the exhaust pressure has to travel to the turbo. Also, water to air intercooling shortens the length of intake piping which reduces initial lag.

    Open block engines are not that bad! I owned an 1998 Alfa Romeo 156 V6. That V6 Arese engine has only cylinder sleeves surrounded by coolant. Never made any problems and every car would fall into dust before that engine would give up working. (If maintained right). The trick is that the top of the cylinder sleeves mate with the cylinder head and no movement will ever happen. They never ever blow a head gasket and the electronic is the only downside to the engine. You can even turbo it if you do the right adjustments to it and it will take it like an 2JZ. 2.5-3.2 liter engines but since it uses cylinder sleeves that are easy to replace you can build it how you want to. The thing is it is an fron wheel drive engine that could bother some guys but if you build it into an mid engine car you have an full alloy engine with an fair weight that will handle turbo charged 500 or maybe even 600hp easy with no big modification of the engine (stock is ~190hp from the NA 2.5litre) But make sure you dump the original engine management... Electronics are fair but not that great on the Alfa Romeo cars they like to break and do not let you adjust as much you want to adjust. There are some great open deck engines out there you just need to find them. The Arese V6 is an good looking one too!

    Leaps and Bounds more efficient and powerful than its predecessors.
    Toyota input led to it having a CGI closed deck block same as the famous BMW 3.0 TDs. Not cast Aluminium closed deck as this guy assumes (2jz was sort of a diesel block)
    BMW was not able to cheapen out on cylinder Head parts like they usually do. Toyota was watching and Micro managing the Quality control.
    The air to water intercooler is a revelation and tuners can get very innovative with this feature.
    Dual perfomance VVTL-i or vanos.
    BMW has perfected the inline 6 formula as others Dumped it. So Supra is getting a cutting Edge Engine that has pedigree and Evolution on its side.
    The DME is so easy to tune but also to fuck it especially during flashing.
    Am a Qualified BMW Tech I know my Stuff.

      Sure but Toyota did the quality test for all the parts of the b58 and they modified the engine to pass all their conditions, but I am interested, did you saw those problems on the b58 in particular or on others engines ? Becouse I'm not sure that they modified all the b58 or only the Toyota version. Anyway if Toyota had let those things pass their quality tests, it is a shame, they are known for their reliability and if BMW didn't followed the Toyota's direction ( knowing their version have more horsepower so it is possible) it is not smart from them, I think only the time would prove us if your predictions are right or wrong, or maybe a Toyota quality auditor that saw your comment xD

      good question. I was wondering the same. I hear only great things about the modern ZF 8 speeds. Will be cool to see people push the stock boxes to their breaking point. I'd bet it's around 800 horsepower, since they're over building them and putting them in just about every big horsepower car nowadays.

    • @threepac
      @threepac 5 лет назад

      Anita Jerkin Sure, ZF makes high torque rated 8-speeds, but they are not all the same. Different models are rated for different levels of torque. Obviously this is not same model as the one used in for example the Challenger Hellcat.

Plus in real life i actually drove both cars in a video game so i know what im talking about.

    I have no idea why open deck block was ever implemented in an engine, if your engine design is so bad that it will overheat unless there is coolant flowing directly around the combustion part of the sleeve your engine is terrible. When has that even been an issue anyway? It boggles my mind why it was ever a thing

    Wow, not every engine has a closed deck block! Twin scroll will help significantly with spool time all that in the first 1:22 wow, lets see what's next....Never put a restriction on my one when it was stock just a closed loop boost controller, never over boosted! 2J 10k will get you 700HP 500ish KW easy! Gen2 GTX3584R will get you 900Hp with awesome spool...Believe me i know! Rod out the block is very rare with just block wear, more like detonation lol!
