@Bman Doubt it, 2 port tends to perform a bit better.. Fastest MK5 Supras in the world are all 2 port.. If you had the same size turbo on the MK5 it wouldn't even been close...

I had a built 6 speed supra and it was similar to this guys mk4. But when you think about the time and effort put into trying to keep an older car fast with all the problems that occur, it just doesnt make any sense. I would now rather have the uglier mk5 that feels crammed inside, and its b58 doesnt sound as good as the 2jz. Mk5 is way cheaper and keeps up with the best if them. Mk4 will keep you stressed out and worried about someone smashing into it, I was afraid of parking it anywhere were I cannot keep an eye on it. I could never take it to the movies. The shifts really arent hard to hit unless you use the wrong transmission fluid, but launches are hard. His were amazing, being able to keep up with a modern computerized car.
Have you ever driven a v160? Maybe mine is a bit worn out and I think I still have the first fill of the trannyfluid but you need some strong arms to switch gears. There are definitely gearboxes, that are easier and faster to shift.
@@jodokehrig8029Yes, for 25 years. And sorry, I dont have strong arms and I have no issues. Only the notorious 1st to 2nd can be a little notchy, but nothing really bad. But I had the wrong fluid in there once and all gears became far more hard to hit. And thats a known issue with that transmission because the wrong fluid makes the seals and rubbers in there swell up which causes these issues. Only few specific fluids will work with it properly. IDK how long you had your Supra, but if its still the first fluid then you either dont give a crap about your car or you didnt have it long enough. But it would explain that you have issues. Change the fluid to something like Royal Purple Syncromax and see it improve massively, if the old fluid wasnt in there for too long. And yes, of course there are smoother transmissions 30 years later, especially those that cant hold 800+ HP. Less noisy ones as well.

That was some beautiful racing there boys... wow, looked loads of fun. I love the MK4's they are so freaking fun with that big turbo and noise. Though I really love the styling of the 5, and though I'm a bit of a purist and am sad Toyota didn't go pure blood, I do respect their choice and appreciate the heavily Toyota-tuned engine and gearbox. Economically it just made sense unfortunately, but moddability and performance wise it really pays homage to the love of the MK4.
I am definitely a hard core mark4 supra lover but too be fair Dom is the only supra driver that I have seen from what I've seen that can even drive their car.... For instance Affi in his r34 is a clutch and launch master because he knows his car👍😎 I would like too be see some one who can do the same for the supra family like Ryan woons for instance with a 3.4 litre stroked and stock 6 speed gear box years ago, launches like a sling shot and runs a 8.99 quarter mile💙👍😎🙏 Love channel and keep up the epic work guys,keep doing what your doing, love the content 👍👍👍👍

to be fair the 2jz is not new tech it's over 20 years old and I'm sure it's only had some headwork/cams internally if it was fully built crank/rods/pistons etc would see much more power for it's age it's mind boggling that's why people appreciate it so much, can even get more power than that with stock bottom end

Careful what you say. The mk4 and 2jz fan boys will come at you. People forget nobody wanted the mk4 in the 90s which is why Toyota stopped making it. 20+ years of 2jz aftermarket support makes a difference.
@@chrisginoc The reason the MKIV sold poorly in the UK was because it was priced higher than previous Supras and the likes of the 300ZX, which meant Supra/JDM fans found it expensive and badge racists didn't want to pay that much for a Japanese car. The performance was never an issue as even stock there wasn't much that could touch it for the price. Ironically they made the MKV cheaper so that didn't happen again when they really didn't need too as badge racism isn't as big of a thing now, IMO the budget spec interior is the MKV's only real flaw (I never really cared that it had a BMW engine just like I never cared that my MKIV and MKIII had Yamaha engines).
I appreciate both cars. However the MKV is the winner with the refined driving experience and updated tech& also not full of creaks and rattles from the 90s build quality. In the end grab you a MKV while you can because when they are gone years later you’ll see these will be the cars everyone wants just like the MK4. The MKVI Supra comming in 2026 looks to be quite different styling and I hope the final product isn’t the concept. It looks like a late model Mitsubishi Eclipse and a MKV had a baby from the concept photos I’ve seen. Anyhow as an owner of both cars I can say they are both legends. The MKIV is overpriced for what you get unless it’s built for crazy horsepower and those cars aren’t the only ones that people gouge on. Factory for factory the MKV is so much more impressive. Let’s be real most people aren’t going to own a 900-1000hp Supra so the overall car really matters for your money.
I'd love to have either car in my driveway. That being said, I'm happy with my '87 MKIII Turbo. It's not as fast, but it's still fun to drive and gets "Is that a Supra?" everywhere I go.

There are 2jz making over 1200hp, this guy my guess doesn't like laggy turbo and preferred less power more response. And it's a manual vs automatic so no point talking.
I can damn guarantee you that bmw will not be as reliable as that 2jz. Especially since dart is making billet block 2jz engines. Bmw pretty much f**ked there.

Great to finally see an a80 keeping up, great build and he did really well. Quarter mile times were terrible, but the rest was really good, even the 0-60. Probably would have run an 11.0 if he turned the power down from 900hp to 500hp though.

The performance was never an issue as even stock there wasn't much that could touch it for the price. Ironically they made the MKV cheaper so that didn't happen again when they really didn't need too as badge racism isn't as big of a thing now, IMO the budget spec interior is the MKV's only real flaw (I never really cared that it had a BMW engine just like I never cared that my MKIV and MKIII had Yamaha engines).

I appreciate both cars. However the MKV is the winner with the refined driving experience and updated tech& also not full of creaks and rattles from the 90s build quality. In the end grab you a MKV while you can because when they are gone years later you’ll see these will be the cars everyone wants just like the MK4. The MKVI Supra comming in 2026 looks to be quite different styling and I hope the final product isn’t the concept. It looks like a late model Mitsubishi Eclipse and a MKV had a baby from the concept photos I’ve seen. Anyhow as an owner of both cars I can say they are both legends. The MKIV is overpriced for what you get unless it’s built for crazy horsepower and those cars aren’t the only ones that people gouge on. Factory for factory the MKV is so much more impressive. Let’s be real most people aren’t going to own a 900-1000hp Supra so the overall car really matters for your money.

I'd love to have either car in my driveway. That being said, I'm happy with my '87 MKIII Turbo. It's not as fast, but it's still fun to drive and gets "Is that a Supra?" everywhere I go.

Not to mention supporting mods the mk4 is not and as for the weight the mk4 is not much more weight then the mk5. maybe 100pounds which I have a feeling that mk4 has some weight taken out. Just saying if the B58 was a built motor and been on the market for has long as the 2jz been out I feel like b58 would eat the 2jz. In this race to to be fair the mk5 should be built have the same power and re run them.

There are 2jz making over 1200hp, this guy my guess doesn't like laggy turbo and preferred less power more response. And it's a manual vs automatic so no point talking.
I can damn guarantee you that bmw will not be as reliable as that 2jz. Especially since dart is making billet block 2jz engines. Bmw pretty much f**ked there.

Great to finally see an a80 keeping up, great build and he did really well. Quarter mile times were terrible, but the rest was really good, even the 0-60. Probably would have run an 11.0 if he turned the power down from 900hp to 500hp though.

Nice Video. Mk4 is my dream car but i need to say i think Toyota did very well with the mk5. You can hate them for using an bmw plattform but bmw just had alot more expirience with the inline 6 engines so that was a smart move.
