Waylon and I traveled thousands of miles together during the 70's. From Elko NV to Carleston, W. VA. Texas north to Montana and Idaho. We never met actually. I was a supervisor with an Oil and Gas Exploration company, (Doodle Buggers)! His tapes played in my old 8 track every mile of the way. Some songs made me laugh, some cry, about all of them made me think. I was sometimes asked, by those unfamiliar with, and skeptical of, that way of life, how we did it, moving from state to state, town to town, every few weeks. Told them I only needed three things to make the trip. Thermos of coffee, carton of Marlboros, and Waylon in the 8 track. Strange really, how you can miss someone so much, that you never really knew.

I thought for years that I would have them digitized, but never did. They're too brittle now to handle, but the memories they bring are still strong. I was going through a bunch of stuff recently, when I came across the 8 track tape box. I set there and let my mind wander back to, what I consider, much better years. I was with the company in the eastern division, when I got transferred to the Rocky Mtn division. I left Charleston, W. Va. for Elko, Nevada. Me, Waylon and Willie. Thanks for listening! Be well.

I actually knew him. Through his sound engineer Wes Delk. Got to meet some many county superstars through them. But Waylon and Jessie are some of the coolest people I’ve ever known.
