  • Buster Odeholm dials in a BRUTAL downtuned guitar tone for Humanity's Last Breath! He uses the Fortin Nameless suite amp sim, the TSE 808 overdrive pedal sim and a 3rd party IR with FabFilter Pro Q, but the same concepts should apply with any plugins.
Get instant access to these Humanity's Last Breath multi-tracks and Buster Odeholm's full mixing session ► nailthemix.com/buster

@@completionofanexorcism1195 The DAW you use doesn't matter. There's no wizardry. It's years of experience and doing things over and over again, learning what tools will be best suited for what situation, what room you're recording and/or mixing in, etc... I'm not tryin to put down what you said because I definitely get where you're coming from. Sometimes it does seem like there's some big secret. But perfect performances, the right instruments/amps and nailing all the takes, understanding that source tone is basically everything and just having the dedication to get the best takes no matter how long it will take is the secret. You can't really change the way things sound. You can really just accentuate the good parts. So if the tone you're recording with isn't good then pick another one that is because you truly can't polish a turd. In my opinion anyway.

Does anybody know where I can find a copy of TSE x50 for mac? The website does not support purchases anymore.

For someone using Reaper as their DAW using this same process. When you created the second round of Pro Q3 and Saturn, did you add it to the Master FX, did you create a Guitar Submix for the DI's or did you buss the DI's to a separate track?
I cannot for the life of me figure out exactly which diffraction you took them.

Guitar submix, so q3 and saturn effect both left and right guitar. Di's are on separate trakcs which go into eq then into amp on both.

@Artyom Mosin short of Blue Cat Oatchwork (I found a cracked version) and the CLA 76 (I'm using Fab Filter hPro C) I noticed I got the tone down but every once in a while it comes through SUPER sick for like a quick second then goes away.
Not sure if you'd know what that could be from? I tried to get the Ats3 x50 to "learn" but it didn't fix the issue I'm having.

@@michaelclark7456 First idea that comes to mind is that the attack on CLA is to slow, so sometimes it lets through to much dB into the amp.

@Artyom Mosin sadly I'm using Fab Filter Pro C instead of the CLA because I haven't had funds to buy the CLA yet. But it's super weird. It still sounds good but I'll be playing a riff and for a split second it sounds ridiculously good then goes back again.
I'll invest in the CLA and see if that makes a difference but I just wanted to say I appreciate you trying to diagnose this with me.

All these plugins say how great they sound but you buy them and realize you have to add 5 other plugins to it to get that good tone...I haven't found one yet that really sounds satisfactory using it alone...I also am not really great at dialing in tones for recording but it shouldn't be that hard honestly...I can dial in a real amp in a matter of seconds with no other hardware...you are really good at making these plugins work, good brutal tone... hopefully I can get there one day.

Dialing in an amp on it’s own is a completely different thing from dialing in tones for a mix. Dialing in tones to record distorted guitars is hard, because distorted guitars are the opposite of what you want in a good mix hahah. It’s even harder when you tune down.
