So I just copped Nail The Mix this month, I'm going over the MixLab stuff and there's this one video of Buster using an EQ response reference trick to EQ tones he doesn't like.....oh my fucking god, I can't believe how valuable that information is

snare bottom trick. tilt EQ, boost the lows a ton. cut anything below 200. distort. filter resonances. boost 200hz wide, cut 3k wide. 1176, 6:1. make it pump. turn up until BOTH snare mics now sound like a drum.

So funny that they're talking about this now. Been doing that too my snares since 2011, only with what I had at the time which was those SPL Twin Tube and the other SPL ones, as well as a Stilwell 1073 plugin back then, and just pre cutting with whatever eq I used, then boost post processing, and smash it with a Rev B 1176 on the bus(what I had at the time, not sure if CLA had his plugins out at the time but I didn't have it, only UADs black 1176 at the time was good that I had. Didn't like the PT one as it sounded nothing like my hardware one (but that had a ton of grit to it as it's been worked on a bunch before I got it). Anyway... Always look to put distortion on snare first, and see if that helps you out, before reaching for other fixes... Imo.
