    I take risperidone and I have been on it for one year. I worked with my mental health doctor for an entire year to get on the right regimen. I take 1 mg in the morning, 1 mg at night. This med has helped keep my impulsive behavior low, my emotions good. It does however make me very tired, in all situations. I have experienced extreme weight gain with this drug. I was at 140 lbs, I’m now at 190 lbs, and can’t rid of the weight no matter what I do. If I miss a dose my body increases in anxiety, and my body shakes. I don’t recommend missing doses at all.

    Very helpful video. But what is risperidone actually made of? How does a lab actually obtain the molecules that make up risperidone?

    • @NurseRyan
      @NurseRyan  3 года назад +3

      Hi, according to drugbank.com, Risperidone's Chemical Formula is C23H27FN4O2. "This compound belongs to the class of organic compounds known as pyridopyrimidines. These are compounds containing a pyridopyrimidine, which consists of a pyridine fused to a pyrimidine. Pyridine is 6-membered ring consisting of five carbon atoms and a nitrogen atom. Pyrimidine is a 6-membered ring consisting of four carbon atoms and two nitrogen centers at the 1- and 3- ring positions."
      I don't have any experience with how medications are actually made in a lab.

      Hi, I always recommend speaking with your primary healthcare provider for any medical advice.
      However, you might be interested in this study from 2017: www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5603813/
      In summary, this study showed that it is possible that THC can decrease the effectiveness of Risperidone in mice, though this finding has not yet been translated to humans. Again, always contact your healthcare provider for medical advice!

      Hi, are you interested in medications that are similar to Risperidone?
      There are many other Atypical Antipsychotics which are similar to Risperidone, including Olanzapine (Zyprexa), Quetiapine (Seroquel), Aripiprazole (Abilify), Clozapine (Clozaril), and many others. I have videos for each of these drugs on my channel if you would like to check them out. But always remember to speak to your healthcare provider for any medical advice!

    • @NurseRyan

      Hi, Olanzapine and Risperidone are different antipsychotics but they work very similarly. However, especially with antipsychotics, every person can have very different reactions when taking new medications. It is always best to consult your physician with any medical concerns when switching medications. They should have the best answer that fits your specific case.

    Is risperidone stronger than ssri like citalopram and sertraline?

    • @NurseRyan
      @NurseRyan  2 года назад

      Hi, I would assume that it depends on the case. Risperidone may be more effective at treating certain issues, while an SSRI may be more effective for others. It would also depend greatly on the individual. Antipsychotics and Antidepressants can act very differently from person to person! I always recommend speaking to your primary healthcare provider or pharmacist for any actual medical advice 😀
