Seeing how much room in that squarebody's engine bay reminds me of working on an old suburban. You first set up the lawn chair under the hood to start working on stuff.
It’s great when it starts raining and you can just sit in there and pull the hood down slightly for a nice rain shelter

My 95 Bronco i had was the same way. Made the 2 engine swaps i did so much easier than the stuff I work on now
Who needs a chair lol. You can sit on the core support and have plenty of legroom unless you got the big block anyway

I feel the same, there's plenty of rusted out beat up square bodies they could have used.
No one ever accused these guys of being smart. I quit watching in protest.

I’d love to see a modern jeep with same size highway tires and open diffs as square body. She did great all things considered
good job you guys , the first time I went through the Rubicon I had 30 in 9.5 tires on a stock Toyota mini truck (1982 ) , this video was riminisent of my run.

That shot with the welder was golden material.
I literally cried seeing that old squarebody being destroyed and fred cackling like it was the best thing made me mad. Seeing a beautiful truck way it was originally slowly being busted up on a rock trail really hurt. Old truck did great with full bed of junk and even stock it held up great. Sad seing it abused like that.
I've built and owned several 73-87 trucks (still have an 85 K20). But I agree, no need to destroy that truck especially if the body was original rust free.
It made the Rubicon. It was worth it.
For many of you guys, who cry when old trucks get messed up whistling diesel sure does get a lot of views
Whistlindiesel has more money to waste buying new or like new cars or trucks just to destroy them for views. Must be nice spending 10k on a truck just to run over it with a monster truck or a loader @@operator8470

I've seen a corvair station wagon go through there with no problem. I wouldn't take my square body through there. I like my square body.

Happy New Year guys! I saw the transfer case busting or at least the chain jumping on the final climb with the 40's on! But she made it! Can't beat the ol square body! 👍
That year square body would of had a NP05 gear drive TC. Later square bodies had the NP208. It could of had the NP203 which was chain driven but that's more rare
Believe they swapped in a 203/205 doubler. So all gear driven.
Oh the departure angle of the long bed square body, gotta love it lol

I was trying to figure out what they were welding? Was that a broken yoke?
@@MrJoshItIs they were welding the ujoint cap to keep it from spinning out of the straps.

Those old K20 Chevys were tough. Back in 2014 I had a 77 C20 that my stepfather converted to 4wd. Had a 97 Vortec 350 fuel injection.....it was a nice old truck. I was completely stopped in a construction zone and the car behind me,well they just even try to stop until they were probably 5 feet from my rear Bumper. His Acura TL was about 2 feet shorter after that accident. I had whiplash pretty bad and a bump on my head,but I drove that truck another year before I decided to replace it. Idk exactly how fast that young man was going but his speedometer was stuck at over 45mph. Don't text and drive,he was texting his girlfriend and he totaled her car,.I bet that went over well. That car only had liability insurance on it. Recently I got bit by the 4wd bug again. Picked up a nice 96 Grand Cherokee 5.2L So far I just lifted it a few inches and 242 transfer case swapped it, tires. My brother picked up a 5.9L Durango we are going to build them at the same time. That thing is a tank.😆

I bent my front bumper like this one when I had my brother in law pull me to jump start it. I had hooked up the tow rope to the brush guard I had on it. Bent up the bumper and tore up the bumper mounts. Got a new used bumper and new mounts from Amazon. I will probably get someone to weld better mounts before I put the brush guard and winch back on. 84 K20 6.2 diesel

Maybe highway tires weren’t the best choice for Dave.but the 40s definitely made up for it!!!
That was a decent old truck with lots of potential until these,,,,,,,,,,,ahem,,,,,guys jacked it up.

Lol 😂 we run overdrive on the front axle of RC crawlers. Previous owner was just making sure it would have some good traction on steep climbs w/o flipping backwards as easily 🤷🏻♂️
The front was actually underdriven when they went the 1st time!

Frame was bending pretty bad on the truck in the vid but 1 tons have a little bigger frames I’m gonna still beef up the frame more on mine before I ever do extreme stuff like that tho

A stock square body with no mods. Of course it sucked on the trails . These need to be lifted with appropriate tires for the terrain

I can't tell you how PAINFUL IT WAS to watch such a good o truck being treated like that !!!! At the first winching I quit !!!!

That truck was NOT good. It had cheap, poorly aftermarket fenders, flux core welded in repairs, aftermarket hood, grille, bumper, no interior, rusted rockers and corners, wired using the autozone wiring aisle using almost nothing but butt splice connectors, built out of leftover parts, (Front axle and rear axle were non matched gear ratios) etc. It just looked good on camera at a distance after someone used a house paint roller to paint it. I saw it in real life and passed it up a few years back, owner was asking 4k, which is about 2k too much in cali. It was also in the California Sin Bin and couldn't be registered, because its emissions had been removed and the engine didnt match. No way to restore it to road legal without swapping in a newer approved drivetrain and taking it to a smog ref.
Well, you feel free to go take yours to the mall and get ice cream. The folks with some gumption will be here having fun.

Why did he weld the u joint caps??
when it spit the joint the first time, it probably broke the little tabs on the yoke off that hold the caps in. real common. so then you have to tack the caps or they'll just spit out again.
@@nicholascooper1193 oh ya okay didn't think of that I was just like huh? The u bolt should hold it but ya there's a little lip there! It won't make to much of a difference with it not moving it can still move inside
