I love the old square body K series trucks I've owned a few of them almost bullet proof in stock form , one of mine had an SM465 4SPD and 4.10 gearing , it was a monster in the mud or crawling around with the granny 1st gear , true Legend of GM TRUCKS
My 1st pick up was a 1978 K10 square body, 350, 4 speed & 8' bed, I bought in 1980 with 12,500 miles. It had a Fisher 8' power angle plow that had never seen snow, '76 & ' 77 were bad winters but '78-'80 weren't. It already had a lift kit in it, so I sold the plow and bought it some new sneakers. They were 14x36-15 Pro Trac Hi Rollers mounted on 15x10 aluminum wagon wheels. There wasn't a mud hole, sand pit or snow pile it couldn't crawl through.
The 99-07 Silverados have are considered one of the best trucks GM has ever built. As a owner of a 04, they are super easy to work on, and are really good trucks
I had a 91 K1500 and a 99 Silverado. The 91 had the tbi 350. Ran good but was a snail compared to the 99 which had the 5.3. I had the later truck for nearly ten years. Bought it used w/ about 122,000 and sold it with 243,000. I did have to have the transmission rebuilt(sun shell assembly came apart because the factory one was machine pressed together!). Was a good truck, but many of the parts on it very not as heavy as the 91 was. I had to replace both window regulators twice. You could definitely tell that GM’s quality started slipping in the 90s, if not before.
