- I have bought the worst K10 square body in the USA. In part 1 I evaluate the condition of the truck and attempt to get it to run. Along the way I run into several issues. The key switch is broke and while troubleshooting the issue the steering column is replaced. I find that there is water and dirt in the fuel tank. If you think that’s the worst, you haven’t looked at many.
He's probably seen better examples in the past
Exactly, he hasn't saw mine! 😂 Dudes complaining about dents on a 40-year-old truck and I bet that 40-year-old truck is healthier than him 😂😂😂
Ja Know it’s all about the views
I was thinking the same thing!
You took my words. I have a few of these in worse and probably paid more.
Appreciate the steady-cam; so many of these style videos have some maniac who's had too much coffee holding the camera the whole time.
Thanks for your comments.
Quick walk around, right into the fixing. Love it! It's a real treat seeing this old girl sorted correctly. Your knowledge on all the small pieces and even recognizing what is missing is awesome.
Thanks 👍
Awesome video! Your demeanor reminds me a lot of my dad. He never gets mad or frustrated when doing these projects because there’s not much he can’t fix!
I would like to thank my dad for this.
That was one of the best car resto vids I’ve seen on here. No annoying music, no crazy long shots of any one part of the resto, good video editing. Looking forward to part 2!
Thanks for your interest in my video. I am working on part 2 now and should be ready to post it in about a week.
This is the most in depth very calm and perfectly placed camera angles I’ve ever seen in my entire life way better then Chris fix lowkey more entertaining. You good sure have gained another subscriber
Thanks Cheif. I appreciate your comments.
I like your attention to showing how to remove and replace hoses, fittings, and brackets, etc. That is always overlooked in these types of videos. Maybe bc they assume we all know how to do that already, but what if we don’t. Knowing how to do that and also properly torque bolts and use tools is the foundation needed to even get started for many of us watching. Subscribed
Thank you for you comments.
WOW, finally a guy who organizes all his nuts, bolts, has a great overall plan, can't wait to see the finished product
Thanks, In the next video we are going to find out if she runs and I am going to show and tell what the plans are for the truck.
In Missouri that's a nearly rust free $5k+ square body.
I have been to southern Missouri. Beautiful part of the country.
Nice work. She is coming along. I like your editing style with jump cuts that show what you need and nothing you don't. It condenses a lot of content in a more manageable sized and more enjoyable video. You also provide useful commentary without unnecessary blathering. Well done!
Lisa. Thank you very much for your comment.
the worst???? truck looks mint to me
it looks like a nice little truck. Just need some love.
I think that’s to get views bc I’m doing a frame off 87 right now and I agree this isn’t even close to real “bad”
I love it how you self-explanatory everything you’re doing it the right way and I really appreciate you taking the time I look forward to watching you put this bad bad boy together
Thanks for watching and stay tuned. She is going to be nice.
I just found your channel. I love it. Waiting patiently for the next video!!!!
Thanks, I will have another video on the 84 K 10 in about 5 weeks depending my real job.
I hear you. I have a fishing channel @Arrigooutdooradventures and I work full time. Makes it tough.
Better. Than. 80%. From. Up here in. Great. White. Salt bath. Northern. Michigan
I really like the video you've produced. There was lots of close detail, good description, and cut out most of the boring repeat stuff!
Stay tuned because I plan on making that truck look like it just rolled out of Detroit.
I think thats a beautiful truck and its pure gold 😊👋🏼here in Mexico they are well loved
Thanks for your comment.
Paint looks good. That truck is going to love you for all the care you putting in
Thanks. The video makes it look like the paint took about 5 minutes but it really took about 5 back breaking days. lol
The thing I love about trucks is there a full frame and if you leave the wiring in place, you can take all the body off makes it a lot easier to fix up
Looking forward to seeing more videos on this restoration. Hopefully don't have to wait too long
Tuco, thanks. I will have a new video on this truck in about 5 or 6 weeks depending on how my real job goes. Also many more to come.
Lovin the calm demeanor and smooth processes of everything that's being done. This channel is a hidden gem! Sub'd!
Thanks
That’s a sweet ride compared to that vintage up here in SW Michigan.
I think these trucks will become more sought after ,real soon. Because price of new trucks, and these you can acually work on them. hardley any computer b.s.to deal with. And there proven to last...
Well said.
Nice filming and video. Thanks!
Thank you very much!
Build a 79 Chevy K20 with a 5.9 Cummins swap got only a couple things left and just like yours the radio hole is hacked to piece ... can't wait to see how you tackle that ... keep up the good work
Thanks for your comment. If I had the money and time a Duramax swap in a short bed square would be killer. Mabey one day. Good luck with your project. Stay tuned because the radio hole fix is easy and cheap.
Extremely well-done video. I look forward to seeing what else you've posted.
Thank you.
Man that's in Great shape ! Done & seen a helluva lot worse ! 😁✌
We are finding out at the same time the actual condition of this truck.
YES I’ve been looking around RUclips for a little while for some restoration/building projects and this is perfect, perfect pace I feel like I’m learning a little and the southern accent is a plus lol
Lol Thanks.
Awesome footage cant wait for part 2..i have a scottsdale and your video helps me a lot,... thanks
Great instructional video. Good light, steady camera. Nice work!
Thank you very much!
I just found your channel, love the straight forward no nonsense talk. Subbed!
Thanks very much.
Your videos are so relaxing and entertaining at the same time. Great job, great truck, great channel 👍
Thank you for your comment. Its going to be challenging and a lot of fun to get the old girl back into shape. Stay tuned.
Man, what a great video. Love the content and your style. Subscribed and looking forward to more like this
Thanks. Stay tuned I am planning many more videos on this truck.
great vid! cant wait to see the finished product 👍
Thanks! 👍
Looks like a pretty good project truck! Have brought a few back over the years. Just got a86 k10 from arizona delivered...the next project. The aluminum finned module is for the intermittent wipers. If its oem and good its gold. Good luck as you go!!
Thanks and good luck with your project. If I would have just traced the wires.
Enjoyed the video and looking forward to your next one!
Thanks, I am just about to start working on the next video.
I like square body Chevrolet 4x4’s. Enjoying you sharing your video. You are very knowledgeable about the truck. It is like I am right there with you as you are working. I like your laid back process of working.
Thanks 👍
I imagine you've already figured this out, but the "cruise control" wires you tied up out of the way are actually for the wiper switch. The cruise control is the big black sheathed one with the weird edge connector on the end.
Great video!
You are right. Correction going in next video. Should have traced the wires.
Looks like it’s cleaning up nice and looks a lot better than some I’ve seen on my local marketplace. 🔥
Thanks
I also like it very much. I am eagerly awaiting the second part.
Thanks for the video. Looks great
Thanks
Ready for part 2 😊
This is really nice! I really enjoy videos that are just about the vehicles.
Thanks. More to come.
So glad I found your channel! Looking forward to your next video!
Thanks. There should be the second part of many on this truck in a month or two depending on how my real job goes.
This pickup is actually in real good shape great video earned a sub
Thanks for the comment. We are finding out at the same time that she is not really that bad and just needs a little fixing up.
First time watching like your simplicity, keeping things correct, no nonsense, good job. Will subscribe for sure thanks!!
Thank you. I will have part 2 on this truck in about 5 or 6 weeks.
Love it! Keep up the good work.
Thanks!
Looking good. Really enjoyed your video 👍
Thanks
Love the video! Ive got a 82 K10 in the making
Great video. Great tutorial. Felt like I was in Auto Mech class.
Thank you for your comments.
Great vid man🤙
Thanks
Very Good video. Watchin this video makes me wish I had purchased a mid to late 80s chev pickup. A guy could work on em & when you got em fixed they stayed fixed. Thanks for the Watch!
Don't give up there are still plenty of these trucks hiding away in someone's field or back yard just waiting for you to find it and save it.
New subscriber from Ohio, very impressive video. Great teaching. Hope to see more on this truck.
There will be many more videos. You will be surprised at the end results
New Sub to your channel. Video is really put together good. Quick short clips that always keeps the viewers interested. Nice work on that ol chevy
Thank you for your comments. I have big plans for the old girl.
Love this! I have an 86 K10 that needs lots of work.
I would like to see some pics when you start working on it.
Your a legend I just picked up a k5 and I’m trying to figure out how to restore it
Good luck with your K5 restoration. Please post some progress pics.
Shoot that’s a good truck to start with easy fix nice workable piece. I’d buy it all day long
I hear that. I agree and I really like the truck. She is growing on me.
Thanks brother
It’s a really nice video you made
👍
Thanks, There will be many more on this truck
Good job you're looking at what I want for my next truck 85 k20 4x4 with a 350 something nice and simple no airbags no knock sensors and no A F M no need to reinvent the wheel good job
Thanks and good luck with your project.
18:25 I'm with you on that!! Some idiot cut mine out for a double din radio 😠 my only problem with my 82 Gmc shortbed 2wd. I LS swapped it couple years ago. Was originally a 6.2 diesel truck then was swapped to a 355 and nv3500 5speed before I bought it. Drove it 3or4 years like that then did the swap. Only thing I wished I had done differently was rebuild the 5speed instead of going automatic. I wouldn't have to patch the hole in the floor. But it's a super solid Texas truck. Don't see many this solid that's unrestored.
What a fantastic video! Thank you for the hard work putting this together! New sub here, following along as I work on my old square body regular cab dually. Thanks for the inspiration!
Thanks for your comments. Good luck with your dually. Mabey one day I will restore a dually on this channel.
Why do I like this video so much? Nice work sir, I am a loyal subscriber now.
Thanks
Excellent camera work and a man who knows his way around a Chevy truck. Just subscribed
Thanks
Love the video buddy. I'm hoping to start doing the same thing with my daddy's '86 k10 that i grew up in. It's nowhere near as rough as this one, but still rough around the edges.
Good luck with your project. Please post some progress pics.
congrats, great work, very nice truck, not a total disaster.
Yes, she has a lot of potential.
coming along.i love working on old trucks
Great video! I just started my channel as well and I gotta say I’m envious of your ability to explain stuff in detail! You got a sub from me!
Thanks and stay tuned for the next video
Love the Springer Spaniel. We've got a pair of em!
Thank you. Annalee is an American Brittany. A pointer. Sweet, stubborn and needed a lot of room to run when she was young. She is the family pet and almost 14 years old.
That truck is in beautiful shape, compared to anything I’ve seen up north here in a decade or 2.
Love to see these restored
You and me both.
Great video well done...
Thanks 👍
It shows promise, not much hacking on the body that is worth anything. She does have a very nice frame with minimal damage for an impact, with a wonderful condition cab with the floors and corners with what is expected with the frame. If you spend money on the doors or just reskin them with factory gauge steel or get China stamped tin??? The engine will decide that question; if the engine is gone why save the fenders and doors, unless there is enough to rework what is there? And in the end, deciding when to stop spending to restore one of these old girls is hard, very hard. OK, I am in for the ride!
Thanks for following along. I found out at the same time as you the actual condition of this truck. In the next video I am going to give a preview of the plans for this truck. Will the engine start and be good? Or the rear axle, front axle, transfer case, and transmission. As of today I don't know. The truck is sitting in my shop just like it was at the end of the video. No more work has been done. All I can say is this truck will be very nice and it will look as close as possible to the way one would have looked when it rolled out the doors in Flint in 84.
I finally found someone who likes step sides. Okay ya got me hooked.
81 to 87 Step side Square. My dream truck.
“Hallelujah, Hallelujah! Ride my Chevrolet.”
Woke up this mornin, needed a blast. Jumped into my Chevy and stepped on the gas
lol@@mattmurray517
Should come to ohio see theses trucks 😊😊
The truck is solid except for a few areas of minor corrosion. She was born near Detroit but lived all her life way down south. No rust but everything else is broke, Lol.
I had black 1983 Silverado 4x4. Short bed in the mid ‘90’s. Great truck, wish I still had it.
A black 4X4 square. That is a rare color. You don't see too many of those around.
Good stuff. I have 6 k5s now a 1973 k30 and an 86 4 door dually... I love squarebody trucks
If I had the money I would have a warehouse full of old squares.
that truck is in great shape cab wise and frame those are the important part short bed silverado is a score can't wait for more videos
We are all finding out the actual condition of this truck at the same time. I plan on several more videos for this truck. Part 2 is about 5 or 6 weeks away depending on my real job.
New subscriber here! I like your style and what you are doing!
Im a sucker for an old Chevy, subbed!
Thanks
Lookin forward to the next video on this truck
The truck is sitting in my shop just as it was at the end of the video. No more work has been performed. I have been ordering parts, planning the next steps, and trying to decide what color to paint the truck. I plan on starting to work on the truck and the next video around the third week in April if my real job allows me the time. Thanks for taking interest in the truck.
Love those frog sounds at 6:00 reminds me of east tx
East Texas is just like home.
love the K10 series
Thanks for taking interest in my videos.
Switch down low on the steering column should be neutral safety/back-up light combo.
Thank you Mr. Dark
Great work
Thanks Wingman I appreciate the comment.
the build sheet on my 84 was on the top of the finder liner under the hood on the drivers side. they are not always in the glove box i have found. hope that helps, i loved my 84 k20, my first truck. my dad owns it now.
Thanks and I will be looking for it there probably in the third video. I will have part 2 out in about 6 weeks. Happy to see the K20 stayed in the family.
My first video watched on your channel. I just subbed. I like the content.
Thanks for watching. Stay tuned. I am going to restore this truck to good working and driving condition.
Billy Bob Thorton, is that you? Wow you sound like him. Just found the channel, love the videos. Subbed and I hope you get a lot more.
LOL Thanks
Well, i enjoyed that. Please do not listen to the naysayers in the comments. I have several hundred RUclips subscriptions, many of them auto or motorcycle repair, and your channel/ work / information is just fine.
Thanks. I will have many more videos coming out on this truck. I hope you check them out.
OMG, You saved her at the right time. At least someone took some care of her to allow her from rotting out.
I am surprised at how little corrosion there is on this truck.
You're lucky. Can't even find anything that good here.
if this is the worst you didnt look too hard, this truck is actually in overall pretty fair used shape considering the age! LOL The floors should be completely bluetooth by now 🤣
I probably should change the title to I bought the worst truck in the south east USA. lol.
Lol@@4x4mikey
Great job
I have never seen a swb 4x4 that came with a 6.2 diesel....learned something new.
The perfect candidate for a Duramax swap. Mabey one day.
Algorithm recommended your video and I enjoyed it. Subbed.
Hey, thanks!
What do you plan to do with the leaf springs? Are you thinking of breaking them down and painting them or are you going to replace?
I plan on keeping the springs. I am going to clean and paint them like the frame but I am not going to disassemble them. I want to get the truck running to assess the rear differential. It the rear differential is good then I will remove the springs and axle together to get good access. Then descale, rust convert, and paint everything together.
you do good work!
Thank you!
I wouldn't say this is the worst truck.but it needs some love
I think at 19:02, that module is for the delay for the wipers. Not the cruise control.
Jon you are correct. I made a mistake with that module and will correct it in the next video. I should have traced the wires.
The connecter that you thought is the reverse harness is your park/neutral switch.
Thanks
When you said the bed wasn't even worth saving I actually laughed out loud. That bed where I live would be worth $1000 no joke. If you deliver it to Nova Scotia I'll give you $500 lol
Lol
