There's a legend, the man who lives beneath the sea. He's a fisher of men, the last hope, for all those who've been left behind, he's known as The Guardian.
Just watched it again. Great movie. Costner and Kutcher did fantastic job honoring the great men and women of the US Coast Guard. They are so under appreciated. So many owe their lives to them.
I cannot stop listening to this song. My brother is in the Coast Guard, I have crazy respect for what he does. I also deeply respect every firefighter, paramedic, police officer, doctor, nurse, and nurse assistant. I very much respect every soldier in the armed forces and USCG. All of them risk so much to keep us safe and free. So if there are any first responders or military reading this. Thank you for all that you do. I look forward to joining the police department and walk the thin blue line.
My Dad is in the Coast Guard.. he's gone for 2 months and home for only 6 weeks and than gone for two more months. It's a long cycle.. But he makes me so proud.

Awesome song and lyrics! My little brother was a “Coastie” and when I watch the “Guardian” I think of him and his service to our country! So proud of him! I went Air Force during the Vietnam war. We had “PARARESCUE” or “PJ’S” as they were called. They were one tough, elite and amazingly trained group of men. The PARARESCUE MOTTO: “THAT OTHERS MAY LIVE”! May God bless and protect all our military personnel and first responders and their families!
I am part of the search and rescue team and this beautiful song touched my heart, so many people that we have saved alive and those who have not had the luck to appear alive, this beautiful song motivates me to continue doing my job to the fullest. We never let go ❤🙏

I watched the movie "The Guardian" in 2006 in theater and still thank the producers to let Mr. Bryan ADAMS for producing such a magnificent song. I lost my father (the head engineer) in a ship accident in 1987 in Black Sea and never had the chance to know him because of being only 14 months old back then. I know even if we had the same cost guard system here in Turkey, it wouldn't work because it sank only in 5 mins. He didn't drown but died in an explosion in the engine room while trying to get his best friend's dead body. This song might be one of the most effective ones among all that touchy songs I've listened up to now for the 34 years of my life. I listen to this from time to time and do know for sure that only the ones who had experienced same or parallel losses in their lives might feel the way I do. May their souls rest in peace...
I listened to this song during the aftermath of hurricane Harvey. My beautiful city of Houston was strucked hard but this song reminded me of all the first responders & selfless people who saved the lives of strangers & thy neighbors. That day i was happy to see the unity not only of fellow citizens but the world. Thank you to those selfless heroes that put their lives on the line. Y'all are deeply appreciated
"So Others May Live" Great tribute to all the men and women of the USCG as well as all first responders across the nation. Thank you all for your service and never letting go! Thank you for running towards the danger and not from it. Stay strong, stay safe!
How wonderful is this song and video, it's given me goosebumps. It makes me think about the wonderful , brave souls who man the lifeboats and emergency services to keep us all safe. They risk their own lives every day without a thought for their own safety. My dad was a firefighter for 40 years, his name was Fred Appleyard and I am still so proud of him. Thank you Bryan Adams for this, I needed it today. ❤

For me it's not all about the song. The song/ Bryan Adams it excellent. This is a tribute to all our hero's out there, 911 first responders, our men and women in uniform fighting for our country, tow & recovery operators, the list can go on. These people just make it happen in the course of doing their daily job. They deserve to be recognized. Thank you, all of you whoever and where ever you are and God Bless...
As a Rescue Swimmer (aka Lifeguard, but Rescue Swimmer is a more universal term, and people tend to think of Lifeguards as lazy assholes), a CERT asst. instructor, a first responder and a SAR worker, this song has a great deal of personal meaning. This song embodies our duties: that we put aside our struggles, our pains and joys, and dedicate ourselves completely to the job. As the USAF's Pararescue says: 'These things we do, that others may live."
+AshErika Michaela No ma'am, I'm not a hero. I simply do my job. You want to see a hero? Look at the Third Infantry, who guard the Tomb continuously. Look to Michael P. Murphy, who walked into a clearing under heavy fire, calmly called for back up, and walked back out, getting hit several times in the process. Look to the firefighters in Washington state, those brave men and women, some of whom have been killed in the line of duty, others that have been injured. Ma'am, I am honored you'd think I belong in the same category as these men and women. But I don't. I'm just trying to do right in this world, and certainly don't demonstrate heroism.
Brenham B To me, all those and more are heroes. :) Every one of you that are "just doing your jobs" out there regardless of the difficulty, simply because it's the right thing to do. It's the best part of being human, when we put our own lives aside to help others. Sometimes, all that's required is a shoulder to cry on, and sometimes it's far more- it all comes from the heart with no expectations, and for me, that's where all heroes are born.
+Brenham “Wolf” B You are the lucky man - You see the effects of You work "at once". The conservators of works of arts and heritage invest their lives in uncertain future and as we see - few ones really care about our work. Depressing? - we have made that choice long time ago and exactly as You (and the MASH doctors) - we cannot save "every case". But still - we push it day by day. But we help "the helpless ones". No pain, no glory (OK - sometimes, someone ...), just grinding ... Anyway - I salute You!
iksu igreku I thank you. And I feel your pain. That we never actually get to see the results of our work is the hardest. Like you, sometimes I wish I knew what happened, if they survived, like you wish you could see the results of your work. And yes, I am lucky. I get to work with some fantastic people.
I can't hold my tears to this movie ( over and over again )and the soundtracks carried me away...salute to all those who takes risk so others may live...take good care always and God Bless...
I'm a Paramedic. This song is crazy accurate for me as well. Paramedics have a higher death rate than firefighters and police officers. Paramedics, Firefighters, and Police Officers work side-by-side in the line of duty, however us Paramedics never get recognition. To my brothers and sisters, you are appreciated.
im gona call bs cops have a higher death toll then firefighters and medics aside you gona have brass balls to be a cop now days with all the damn police shootings just because they chose being a cop as a career
In my opinion Paramedics & EMT's are the top tier of 1st responders. Firemen & Police come in loud vehicles and do their job very publicly. All the casualties get funneled to the medical services, and you guys take over. Because you preserve your patients privacy, we will never see how hard your job can be. Statistically, deaths from all types of injuries are down despite an increasing number of calls. Sometimes there is no way to Thank You enough! You have my respect, and admiration.
This song really captures what the USCG is all about. I enjoyed my USCG service. at a SAR Station in Baltimore. Later in my life, I had the privilege of flying search and rescue in a helicopter. We saved a lot of souls. But we lost a few souls along the way. In the end, it is true that you never let go. Semper Paratus. So others may live.
Awesome song! I heard it first at a Law Enforcement Fallen Brothers Memorial; a very moving song to listen to with the family members of those KIA right in front of you. Thanks to all the Coasties out there, and to all the folks who have never, and will never, let go.
this movie makes us understand how well the Coast Guard is and how much they help everyone! this made me understand how beneficial they are doing and how brave they are sacrificing their lives for us. Thanks Coast Guard
My dad is a retired Coast Guard Commander who flew the HH-60 Jay Hawk. He misses it so much now that he is working a desk job for the USCG R&D Center. But every time they have something to do with Aircraft they go to him! Like all coasties he laughs at the guardian and he is jealous of the new glass cockpits in the helos. But it is really cool to watch Coast Guard Alaska with him because he looks at the aircraft numbers and will just randomly say "I flew that helo".
+Steven Csenteri because it is unrealistic. A lot of the stuff was inaccurate, it is like a doctor watching gray's anatomy or a firefighter watching Chicago Fire.
291xMac You should watch the coast guard alaska show, cause after you said that ur dad or whatever laughed at this i went on a binge on that show ive realized what its like. its basically the wimpiest branch of the military, im sorry to say it because its unfortunate. im very disappointed now, i was thinking about joining that branch of the military because i thought you would be just as badass as a navy seal if you were a rescue swimmer--because thats what some people, including navy seals, and the coast guard website, have said. BUUUUUUUUUUTTTTT then you look at the rescuse swimmers they have and theyre out of shape, and not total badasses, and they dont dive into the water at night time, and they just bring the basket to people over and over again.
Also, Who coordinated the largest Search and Rescue operation in history after Hurricane Katrina? The Coast Guard! Who was first on scene? The Coast Guard! Who is the continually operation branch? The Coast Guard!
I have to agree with 291xMac. My dad flew the H3 Pelican out of USCG Air Station Annette Island, Alaska back in the mid 70s. The aircrews up there fly in some of the craziest conditions imagineable, or they did. I know the only helo currently in the USCG inventory capable of flying in conditions even close to wha they did is the HH-60. In all he spent a total of 20 years flying helos, 7 in the Navy and 13 in the Coast Guard. Other than one specific operation in the Navy when he was busy rescuing oil workers off platforms in the Gulf DURING Hurricane Camille, he never flew in conditions as bad as many of the rescue missions he flew while in the Coast Guard. BTW There was no Rescue Swimmer program back then. The crew chief or another crew member got wet.
Thanks and cool! My dad flew the H3 once, not sure how he managed that before they were retired, but he did. He always said that the air ambulance companies would take one look at the weather and say "Call the Coast Guard!"
A friend of mine is going into the coast guard, another into the army, and another and myself into the air force. God bless and keep those who are willing to give up what they have for the good of others... Even if it means their life. I love you guys!!! God bless!
for those of you saying this was not written for the coast guard it actually was. it was written for The Guardian which is a movie about United States Coast Guard Rescue Swimmers.
This describes all of the fellow railroaders I've lost. Having worked for the railroad, I've lost quite a few of my railroad brothers, including a few in the line of duty. Railroaders like me have one of the most dangerous jobs.
I spent 20 years in the army I was out in Maine Portland Maine and I seen a u.s. coast guard and I thank him for his service he said he has never had anybody thank him for his service we all deserve a kind word they do their job here in the United States to
Hey honestly how does this have any dislikes. Rip too all first responders who have lost their lives and god bless those who are still out there working.
Peggy my grandfather was in the US Air Force and he died October 11, 2016 from a brain tumor me and him were close and when I found out he died I cried for days and I'm crying now
I'm Ex RNLI (Lifeboats) and Ex HM Coastguard from the UK, Certainly not classing myself as and kind of Legend, But have to say, never heard a song that i can relate to in so many ways. Something nice about avoiding the tv and newspapers and just volunteering for a job that you Love. To all around the world involved in helping people in need, God Bless, Keep Safe! xx
This song just got me- like I cant stop crying, knowing that a mother, a sister, a wife, and 3 sons- nevermind that our town, our police force- lost a great man because of some lowlife scumbag who shouldve been in jail MURDERED him. Im grateful he didnt die alone- someone nearby heard his screams for help. All this, while I was sleeping in my bed, up the street. I know some are having cop hate issues- some justified- most not- but if I ever saw someone assaulting a cop, I would stop them. Cops are being watched and treated like criminals and its unfair. Ive come to the conclusion that the average person, needs to step up and have their back like they always have ours.
Brooklyn Mccraw Today is especially hard. that poor kid in PA murdered by some punk with "the only good cop is a dead cop" right on his fb. my retort to this was the only good cop killer is a dead one. they got him. I hope he suffered, because the officers family will never stop missing Landon.
“In Memory of all soldiers who fought for my freedom then and now.......in memory of my own father(Air Force) 23 years. In memory of my friends father(Air Force).....who only believed in singing the truth🎸😎♥️✌️🇱🇷
It's really an amazing thing to see that there are still people in this world who would give everything for someone to live. And that's a really beautiful thing. The best of luck to all of you. You have my respect, and that's something that will never change.
Really i was searching a song with the same title nd i find out this one...i admired these persons who gave their life just to rescue nd saved the lives of those who are in danger...salute to them.. God bless..
Thanks for the response back @Munker3,@Alexmcgruer3. I appreciate the time you both gave to give me some insight . I absolutely love this song and I love and appreciate all branches of the armed force. I served in the Navy myself and I feel we are all connected. It takes great courage to help someone when your own life is on the line. The brave souls that find their life work in these fields are my heroes. Thanks ever so much.
♥️How fortunate are we that these souls, in whatever role it may be, are selfless and brave. There is neverending love and gratitude to each and every one of these protectors in our world...in all their various professions and roles. There can never be enough words to convey the magnitude of love and appreciation that you so deserve, every minute, every second of every day...there is only love and endless gratitude.🙏🌍✨
The part of “could you lay your life down so a stranger could live” is one of the reasons I’m becoming a police officer. At first I wanted to go in the navy but with my meds they won’t take me. I would gladly lay my life down protecting someone
The coast guard doesn't get recognized for the great things it does. Over looked. Heros in my book. I grew up with my dad in the coast guard. Thank you dad for your service.
My dad used to be in the Coast Guard. He was in the harbor during 9/11 and every time he would leave to go back to his ship i would choke back the tears. These guys go through so much everyday and they deserve our appreciation. Great video!:)
this song goes to my dad he was a paratrooper and I'm glad he is alive today so I can look up to him and he is always there for me and I'm thankful to have someone like him for a father
I'm a retired Coastie, (Chief Boatswain's Mate), and am so damn proud of the USCG, what it does,, stands for and the people who serve in it. The official motto is Semper Paratus (Always Ready), but the other motto, "So others may live.., comes from an old unofficial motto from the old Life Saving Service, a progenitor of the present Coat Guard. The old motto goes: So others may live, you have to go out, but you don't have to come back. Tom Steveley, BMC, USCG (Ret)
I love Bryan Adams!! This song is so powerful, can't believe it isn't more popular??? They used it when the WCO David Grove was killed in the line of duty on the funeral video. So appropriate
I want to clear this up. No. This song is not written specifically for anything. Not JUST the Coast guard, not even just rescue swimmers. This is for the military, the firefighters, the Police. I'm USN MA. Every day officers, soldiers, sailors, airmen, firefighters, coast guardsmen, and marines alike risk their lives for others. "Never let go". Fight for the men beside you. Fight for the life of the child in the fire, or for the drowning man. This is for all those who risk their life for others.
I relate this to my life. I was in service for this country but no one understands what it's like after I retired and moved back home. I feel lost in a world of people who don't understand.

That's a damn lie! lol good try though
im gona call bs cops have a higher death toll then firefighters and medics aside you gona have brass balls to be a cop now days with all the damn police shootings just because they chose being a cop as a career
To all the rescue services worldwide and to all them hero’s that’s saved a life by just being there, feel proud
We don't talk about
Im a Firefighter/Emt, first responder this song is our brotherhood! love it. godbless you all and godbless America!
So beautiful. Just watched the movie and this song really finishes the movie perfectly. Thank God for the Coast Guard.
I don't think I ever could let go. Beautiful song!
this movie makes us understand how well the Coast Guard is and how much they help everyone!
this made me understand how beneficial they are doing and how brave they are sacrificing their lives for us.
Thanks for posting this. I'm an Emergency Medical Responder and i listen to this video before going off to work, It's always an inspiration
My favourite song ever! Who is here at 2020?
Me :))
I am 👍
Me
Me my friend
Forever... In time
Costner and Bryan Adams just seem to be a winning kombo through the years...
When I hear this song, it makes me proud that my father served in the Coast Guard after WWII in 1946.; He died of cancer in 2002. Miss you Dad.
A friend of mine is going into the coast guard, another into the army, and another and myself into the air force. God bless and keep those who are willing to give up what they have for the good of others... Even if it means their life. I love you guys!!! God bless!
My respect and pride to our Coast Guard, they are great heroes willing to risk everything to make sure that other live.
Amen to that brother
Thanks for showing the Canadian Coast Guard and the Canadian Forces Search and Rescue. Many people do not see past their own border.
A great song, reminding us of the even greater service the men and women of the USCG provide.
for those of you saying this was not written for the coast guard it actually was. it was written for The Guardian which is a movie about United States Coast Guard Rescue Swimmers.
Levi Brooks-Baril my all time favorite military movie ever out of all the military ones the guardian is my favorite
Levi Brooks-Baril Aka THE BEST FREAKING MOVIE EVER!
Saving lives is way more better than taking lives😢
This makes me proud to be a volunteer coast lifeguard and lets my heart burn. Thanks for this song.
So That Others May Live ...... Senior Chief
Thanks Senior Chief , So Others May Live .... USN AD2 Allen SAR Swimmer 1981-1987
This describes all of the fellow railroaders I've lost. Having worked for the railroad, I've lost quite a few of my railroad brothers, including a few in the line of duty. Railroaders like me have one of the most dangerous jobs.
Who is still listening to this beautiful song in 2021?
Its 2024 and i'm still listening. 🙂
Then go for it. This world needs more angels. We are here to serve others. More power to you.
Bryan adams' voice is one of a kind
I spent 20 years in the army I was out in Maine Portland Maine and I seen a u.s. coast guard and I thank him for his service he said he has never had anybody thank him for his service we all deserve a kind word they do their job here in the United States to
Hey honestly how does this have any dislikes. Rip too all first responders who have lost their lives and god bless those who are still out there working.
Peggy I so agree I cry every time a responder dies. 😥😥😥😥 this song makes me cry
Peggy like my grandpa was in the US army and died after he retired of cancer back in October 10 DAYS BEFORE MY BIRTHDAY. 😥😥😥😥😥
Peggy my grandfather was in the US Air Force and he died October 11, 2016 from a brain tumor me and him were close and when I found out he died I cried for days and I'm crying now
Brussel 48 my colllagie my mom other boyfriend he died form cancer and i never get a chance to say goodbye
Ian Harris sorry to hear that
I'm Ex RNLI (Lifeboats) and Ex HM Coastguard from the UK, Certainly not classing myself as and kind of Legend, But have to say, never heard a song that i can relate to in so many ways. Something nice about avoiding the tv and newspapers and just volunteering for a job that you Love. To all around the world involved in helping people in need, God Bless, Keep Safe! xx
makes me proud to be a fireman. makes me remember of all the brothers that have fallen. reminds me why i do what i do.
Incredible track, one of a kind
This song gets to me, especially at the end of "The Guardian".
Tara Louise Patenaude same I wish people will have feelings for cops I support cops always have always will I promise I am even going to become one
Krysten55 indeed! took my breath! & I bawled!
Me too!
Dude! This song describes the perfect character. Never look back, never look down and never let go... Beautiful.
The Guardian brought me here and im bawling my eyes out while typing this, i still cant hold my tears from that movie
Those people are truly heroes, great song too.
Who's watching this after watching the movie? July 2020? Great Video! Great movie! I salute all the heroes!
Really i was searching a song with the same title nd i find out this one...i admired these persons who gave their life just to rescue nd saved the lives of those who are in danger...salute to them.. God bless..
"So others may live" I still live by the motto years after leaving the service
Thanks for the response back @Munker3,@Alexmcgruer3. I appreciate the time you both gave to give me some insight . I absolutely love this song and I love and appreciate all branches of the armed force. I served in the Navy myself and I feel we are all connected. It takes great courage to help someone when your own life is on the line. The brave souls that find their life work in these fields are my heroes. Thanks ever so much.
I'll cherish this song forever and a day.
Brilliant beautiful song ♥️ dedicated to all the firefighters, army, navy ,rescue swimmers and soilders of the world we all salute you
I was a member of the best military branch in the U.S.A. from 1985-1989, Live on WHEC Chase. Thank you for the video. I watch it at least once a week.
THNKS FOR PROTECTING US POLICE,COASTGUARDS,FIREFIGHTER ETC
Your welcome from a Uk Firefighter
youre welcome from a Future CHP Officer
And medical departments
And railroad workers!
The part of “could you lay your life down so a stranger could live” is one of the reasons I’m becoming a police officer. At first I wanted to go in the navy but with my meds they won’t take me. I would gladly lay my life down protecting someone
We just watched "The Guardian" the other night. That movie always makes me sad... :(
Guardian makes me happy ❤
I love the movie, the song and don't get how someone can't appreciate it. May God be with the USCG
The coast guard doesn't get recognized for the great things it does. Over looked. Heros in my book. I grew up with my dad in the coast guard. Thank you dad for your service.
My boyfriend is in the coast guard. this was absolutely perfect, made me tear up. Thank you.
Thank you for your service in the United States Coast Guard.
Thank you for your service 🇺🇸
What a unique song......
To all the guys out on the waters:go,Coast Guard-real every day heros!!!
I love Bryan Adams!! This song is so powerful, can't believe it isn't more popular??? They used it when the WCO David Grove was killed in the line of duty on the funeral video. So appropriate
RIP the crew of Rescue 116 Irish Coast Guard
Thank you
The man who made this song deserves a medal God bless
I will spend the rest of my life trying my hardest and being the best person I can be!
+Dawn Angel :D
All because of a song.
Thank you to my dad in coast guard service for 30 years 1980 to 2009
Thank you for your dad serving in the US Coast Guard.
Yea it was awesome
thank you Bryan for your lasting style of music for so many years.
for the SAF forces in the philippines..we salute you...we will never forget you...#fallen 44
In memory of the Irish Coast Gaurds Rescue 116.
Every one of you amazing people right now in the frontlines of this pandemic. You are real heroes.
I'm a big fan of Bryan Adams' music. And I am considering a career as an aviation rescue swimmer in the navy. And dang, was this made for me!
this song is amazing God bless all law enforcement men and women
I relate this to my life. I was in service for this country but no one understands what it's like after I retired and moved back home. I feel lost in a world of people who don't understand.
Respect 2 everyone who gave their live for our freedom and so others may see ther love ones

hooorah!
I can say if I was a kid when this movie came out. Being a coast guard would be my childhood’s dream job.
