Knowing this game as deeply as I do, it's interesting to see Jon barely scratch the surface, and be so amazed. I hope he continues with it, and comes back when he's actually gets to the end of it.
Considering the fact that many times these types of games will use bullet hell type mechanics to increase difficulty I don't think that fits. Like they'll include enemies that shoot you or bosses with bullet pattern attacks. It's definetly not the opposite of a bullet hell, it's more like a sister to the bullet hell series. Similar in some ways, different in others.
if I understand it right, there's a mechanic to stop there being too many gems on screen. Once there's a certain amount of gems near the player, the game just dumps XP into a red gem that's nearby. That's why you sometimes get a half dozen or more level ups at once.
Rather than a shotgun, it's a pair of pistols -- it goes with another pair of pistols. The character that comes with both pairs as a starter weapon is basically Bayonetta.

Jon Santa Water is NOT random, it's trying to form a circle with its water projectiles, but that only becomes apparent later. It's nice seeing Jon play this and remember how much fun it is when you're new.
This game is some crazy fun. "Happy brain chemicals" is probably the most apt description I have heard. There are so many unlocks and secrets and, after those, there are many different ways you can challenge yourself to play. I keep coming back to it and I'm looking forward to the day it comes out on Switch.
Couple things to know if you take on the Grim Reaper.... 1. He's got negative knockback. Knockback weapons basically give him superspeed. 2. His health is multiplied by your level at the time he spawns.
Catching up on old videos. I bought this game a week ago. Can kill with nearly pure brute force. Last time I played, I killed The Reaper so quickly I didn't even know it spawned. Granted, I had Limit Break enabled with the shroud, infinite corridor, phieraggi, death spiral, thousand edge, holy wand, laborra, and no future thanks to two candy box drops and map passive pickups. Not sure I will try that again, it's cool to see, but not particularly fun.
I would have to say your both right, it is one of the strongest but if your not getting it early in the game, and therefore aren’t upgrading it to its max light mid game it’s not worth it just cause it’s not keeping up with the enemies
A lot of these weapons really depend on where you are in the game in terms of unlocks, which character you're playing with, and what you're actually trying to do as to how valuable they are. He's pretty high on the King Bible throughout the video, and yes, it can be very good for just surviving, but it can also knock back enemies without killing them if your damage is too low and your goal is farming gold, for example. Garlic is really good up front for weak wave clearing, but can have problems with mobs (especially bosses) getting through and hitting you in late game without the proper support like Magic Wand to knock things back that get too close. Of course that can change once you've unlocked everything, but he's not that far yet, so I wouldn't want to spoil something if he reads comments.
It also makes enemies more susceptible to knockback. That alone makes it more valuable than the lifesteal imo, because when synced with the (un)holy bible, and something like the evolved axes, it makes it so that it's almost impossible for enemies to reach you.
@@scyfrix True, like I said, it really depends on what you're looking to do. Just survive the initial levels? Bible and Garlic together are pretty great at making that happen. But if you've got to put out serious damage, or if your goal is killing as many enemies as possible, other builds can be superior, albeit potentially having more risk to them.
One of the things I most admire about Jon is how excited he gets with things that aren't that good but that he believes are the best thing since sliced bread. Like the lighting ring which does basically nothing besides killing 9 enemies out of the dozens upon dozens on the screen every 5 seconds, yet Jon is entirely invested into it and into how good it supposedly is.

Hey Jon - When there are powerups on the map, you should first fill up all your ability slots, then pick up the powerups on the map to get more than 6 abilities at a time. The reason why I mention this is because you took the Spinach ability when there was already that ability available on the map, thus wasting an ability slot! Also you need to take your abilities in such a way that they buff each other. Almost all abilities have special "ultimates" when combined correctly. You should plan for this accordingly with your levelling.
If anyone's wondering just how chaotic the game can get, the answer is "more". And no it doesn't matter how chaotic it is right now, rest assured it can ALWAYS push things further. It's like Disgaea and Robotron had a baby (who may or may not be a vampire).
The forces of evil reconsider their situation: "You know, we could just NOT attack that one guy. We're effectively immortal - let's just wait him out. Maybe destroy his food and water sources. We could use guns or artillery. Let's do all of that!"
Oh Jon, I finally am watching you play a game I'm very familiar with. If you want a good mechanical breakdown on they game watch a video by Dex. He plays the game often and does a great job of explaining everything every time. Like if you stop collecting all the gems, the game will stop spawning them, but instead drop all the experience into one red gem. It should be a gem that's furthest from you, but just outside your screen. So if you walk the 4 corners of the screen you should find it. This will be like getting an attract orb, but without having to find one. But just you wait till you unlock other things. It gets just fantastic. Also try brotato. It's more bullet hell, but also if you do good it becomes the bullet heaven.

I will say this, if you like this one, give a try to Holocure. Completely free, and actually kind of a more polished or refined Vampire Survivors. Only downside is that it's a fan game for the Vtuber agency Hololive so there are a LOT of references you probably won't get... but hey. It's still a solid, fun game in its own right.

"yay the clock gives you some time" in a line and does no damage, meanwhile "Garlic isnt that useful" does damage and knocks back when in close range giving you more time when actually needed. and that neglecting upgrades. Poor sweet child you have it backwards
My brother show me this game a couple days ago at his house. He usually plays it if he gas the time on his work break and I can see that. Banging out a play session or 2 on a lunch break, definitely seems like a fun time.
I knew the developer was italian, the names of the characters are hilarious the skeleton is "Mortaccio" which translates into "bad dead", "Dommario" the priest which transates into "Father Mario", the one unlocked in the second run "Poppea pecorina" becomes "Poppea (a famous Roman lady known for her libertine customes) doggy style" and also poppa means boob
If you have a weapon you can evolve(lvl 8 for the weapon(s) + the evolving accessory(any lvl)), and get a chest past 10 minutes, you will always get the evolve(if multiple can upgrade, it will pick one and evolve just that one). On some map you can evolve from minute 1, and later you have 2 chest that can never have have evolved past 10 minutes, but that is more spoiler territory :D 10 minutes the break-point for evolves on most maps. Cannot evolve before that.
Oh Jon, please never walk into a casino. The creator of VS used to make slot machines and put a lot of that knowledge into VS but without the monetisation.
Also you're sleeping on the guns. If you get both guns and upgrade them they fuse into one weapon (which is very powerful) and free up a slot for an additional weapon.
12:30 Those tanky enemies all drop green gems which are worth 5 or so blue gems, so it is more XP than you think, but most importantly those waves are the best time to travel the map for pick ups and for collecting XP you have been missing, assuming you did not get a vacuum.
One of the channels I occasionally frequent is Reformist who plays quite a lot of games of this type so I think I've seen this one before, but it's certainly entertaining to watch.
definetely a nice game, and funny to see jon not getting the finer ideas, like for example: Fill your inventory with synergizing items (like get all develop items and weapons) and THEN pick up the additional items from the map, meaning you deal more dmg etc because you have a bigger inventory ^^
It's a really great game, for the price of a pint I've gotten over 100 hours, unlocked everything (well, until the most recent patch) and I'll definitely play more, it's perfect for people that don't have much time as you know you'll paying for 15 or 30 minutes, depending on the mode... and, there's a character to unlock that generally I get to around level 1400-1500... and some really interesting play styles once you unlock more characters (of which there's a ton) and the various game modes including leveling weapons above their max instead of opting for cash or 'floor chicken'... hyper is great... definitely recommend this to anyone, for me, it's opened up a whole new genre of games I never considered and having a ton of fun with.
Both Whip and Garlic evolve into weapons that give you life steal, which means they can be amazing late game depending on your build. Rune tracer is just straight damage
The Evolved Pentagram is peak fireworks and numbers and happy brain chemicals...as well it should be because it can be quite the hassle having the pentagram nuke valuable items early on
If I remember correctly you can't evolve a weapon within the first 10 minutes but afterwards, if the conditions are met it should always be 100% chance.
It's a very relaxing game where you can definitely turn your mind off. Admittedly before an update improved the effects of certain weapons against them, it did take over two hours to kill my first Red Death, and then I only knew I had when my kill count went up by 1. The good old days!
I always try to stay on top of achievements/unlocks and it's been a blast. The game got so much to offer, even of you're "only" in it for the completion and not pushing levels/numbers/builds. If you also consider the price, it's a no-brainer. Buy it!
Knowing this game as deeply as I do, it's interesting to see Jon barely scratch the surface, and be so amazed. I hope he continues with it, and comes back when he's actually gets to the end of it.

If you have a weapon you can evolve(lvl 8 for the weapon(s) + the evolving accessory(any lvl)), and get a chest past 10 minutes, you will always get the evolve(if multiple can upgrade, it will pick one and evolve just that one). On some map you can evolve from minute 1, and later you have 2 chest that can never have have evolved past 10 minutes, but that is more spoiler territory :D
10 minutes the break-point for evolves on most maps.
You forgot to mention just how often the devs update this game - which is a huge plus.
To be honest, its that simple, updating it isnt really a big deal
One of the channels I occasionally frequent is Reformist who plays quite a lot of games of this type so I think I've seen this one before, but it's certainly entertaining to watch.
Incidentally, “Bonked by the Bible” is the title of my upcoming autobiography.
The weapons evolutions are guaranteed, the only limitation is that it can only evolve after the 10 minutes
This looks like a great time!
I also spent weeks mispronouncing Candelabrador. You are in good company Jon
This is one of only 3 games I've 100% completed on Steam achievements. The other two being Fallout 4 and Unpacking. lol
definetely a nice game, and funny to see jon not getting the finer ideas, like for example:
Fill your inventory with synergizing items (like get all develop items and weapons) and THEN pick up the additional items from the map, meaning you deal more dmg etc because you have a bigger inventory ^^
Damn Jon plays this one time and it turns into my new addiction lol
I usually always try to go for garlic, Santa water, king Bible, axe, whatever and whatever the character weapon is. Probably my favorite combo
"You wouldn't think flowers would be that tough" clearly jon has never played undertale
I actively avoided this game for a while, until all the buzz finally convinced me. 5 minutes in and I understood the hype.
It's free on mobile!
Two minutes ago!! I'm here at exactly the right time!
lookikg forward to this being a jon vs claire livestream with many a true dog soon!
Buy it!
Amazing video.
