You can use an external recorder or monitor as a flippy screen if your camera doesn’t have one. They are also super bright, which comes in handy if you are filming outside.
everybody is talking about how great video quality becomes with external recorders, but nobody ever shows a footage of difference in quality between both. is it significant? You didn't show the samples for videos where difference in video-quality has been specified .. I mean how much difference is there between shooting it on SD card or externally?
You don’t need to watch a result. An external recorder usually is a tool to maximize recording on your camera. For example i have a fuji xs10 and the max resolution it can shoot is 4k 30 fps and 4:2:0 8 bit but if you have an external recorder it can shoot 4k 60 fps 4:2:2 10 bit
can you record in 10 bit 4:2:2 with a ZV E10 if you're using an external recorder? Or is it physically not possible? I appreciate your response, and great video!
I'm currently researching this, is it possible to use my computer as a external recorder for my DSLR's video using an USB cable? I have a home film studio, green screen and all.

Can someone confirm that it is possible to send the camera signal to my laptop so I can see the picture without having to look into the camera? How do you select your camera signal? Would I just need a mini-HDMI to HDMI, or also an HDMI female to male USB adapter?
I'm not a camera expert but you can get a capture card to connect the camera picture to the laptop and you use OBS (free) for monitoring Mini/Micro HDMI (depends on camera) to capture card to laptop using a USB cable (USB C) Some cameras have a setting to remove info (clean HDMI).
Weird question but can something like these be used as a redundant storage on a camera with only one card slot? Want to get a6700 for travel/hiking but would also use it for stuff where I'd feel much better with the redundancy of 2 cards. I don't even shoot video lol. I do like the idea of having the big bright screen for certain situations.
@@camerazone_ I don't have one and have never used one. Been doing photo professionally for a long time but have never ran into this question for myself. Still stuck on a7riii
@@floatingrabbit3556 That's why I'm asking. The camera list is very small for Netflix. However, some cameras come close except for say 4:2:2 sampling, etc. This will help in that area. But what about other requirements? No one seems to know the answer on this. 🤷♂
@@Tyrell_Corp2019 Using an external recorder will not improve the quality or specs of your video at all. It will allow you to see what you are shooting better and has other features that mean that the video you get out will be better from a shot level, but there will be no improvement in things like resolution, sampling, or other spec requirements that Netflix has.
Does anyone know of a dual SD card external video recorder? The Atamos Ninja is an awesome external monitor, but it records to a single SSD drive. This puts all your shots in one basket. If that single drive fails, you're out of luck. Thanks

That’s a smart use!!
Great long commercial for atomos Ninja !!!
Basically, I thought the same

@@haydennw4827 thanks. you can buy a Sony A7 IV, and it would record 4k 120 with it? Just like a7S III?
Does hdmi really gives the 12 bit 4:2:2 color depth.

As far as we know, it's not possible.

Thank you for asking; we think that it should be possible if your computer has a 4K capture card.
Yes, I always do this for live
Hi Alan!! That's a nice idea. I'm trying to find out how to make it possible with a PC. Can you please help me with the solution?

I don’t think there should be massive or even noticeable difference. If all setting match ,
why would you record with a monitor if you have a camera with maximum specs ?

You'll need to check out your external recorder and cameras settings to be able to know that. What recorder do you use?

Does it mean that my a6400 that can record 4k30 maximum, with good recorder can record for ex. 4k60? If yes, then its a holly grail for me.
Does using this bring footage up to Netflix standards? (If our camera is already 4K but maybe short on other areas as mentioned here).
Yes ans no. Heavily depends on what cameras they have listed on their requiremenr lists.

Is working with Canon EOS 70D?
Can you just record direct to a laptop with a program or something?
Yes you can (with the help of video capture interface), but it's not feasible as external recorder which is tiny
Does the camera autofocus works when using external recorder?
Some can and some can’t
Thanks very much!
Is this external recorder act as like memory card too
You can insert memory card in the external recorder.
Will touch focus work using external recorder screen ?
Yes they do feature touch based focus assist tools
The user asked another question, if CAMERA AUTOFOCUS works by touching recorder screen.
The answer is NO.
Trruuue. Makes sense now
My FX30 do all of that and my mac M1 Max can handle de files so i think i don't need this.
