- Your Startup's "Product" -- AKA the item/service that you actually sell -- Is easily one of the most important, yet overlooked items in the Startup world. Everyone always talks about how to build a successful business, but nobody talks about how to design a product that people actually want to buy.
So today, I decided to walk through the design principles that we live by at my Startup, and then sit down with my designer Heewon to give y'all a first hand look at how we've applied these principles to our product over the years!

how is your business valued at 30 million ? did you 2x multiple the revenue
It's hard to express just how much these journey videos help me as an early entrepreneur trying to get his MVP launched. The technical advice is helpful, but what shines is how positive and reliable you seem to us (the audience) but also, to your team. I can tell working with you is like going on an adventure with family.
Keep up the good work!
Hee-Won our hearts with his design process👏💛
Hahahah we love Heewon💛
This is soooo good, very few founders making content this in-depth for building product!
Heewon is an absolute beast
I couldn’t agree more
Adding to your points, it's crucial to continually gather user feedback throughout the design process to ensure these principles are effectively meeting customer needs 🔄.
I loved this video so much!! Her won’t designs are incredible and so intuitive and pleasing to my brain.
I said it before but I love these videos you make Jay!! Honestly I’d take ANY JOB at Stan, simply to be in that incredible environment and learn!!!
I started working on a tech startup as a data analyst, and this video is a gem for me. Thank you very much!!!
Glad it was helpful!!! Let me know if there’s any other helpful topics I can cover!
Thanks guys. Really enjoyed this. Love and respect from South Africa 🇿🇦. Enkosi

I really like how you highlighted your differentiator as being easier to use. It's something we hear a lot in the startup world, and it usually feels like BS, but you made it sound genuine. I can't really pinpoint why-maybe it's the story about Google being so simple, or maybe it's just your delivery-but it's working. Great channel, great job, keep it up!
for sure Charles! TBH - its still a bit "squishy" of a differentiator vs. something that has a concrete "moat" - but we're iterating towards something like that over time! Ideally you have it out of the gates (though more difficult in the SaaS world)
This video makes me want to try Stan. Brilliant.
These videos are so helpful! Love them!
Thank you Natalie!!! :)
This was one of the most insightful videos.. Thanks a lot for sharing!
🥰 love your energy. love the shared roasting with your friend! i am like you, very obsessed with great designs that gets the job done. keep it up!!
Hahaha appreciate the love Jorge! Glad there’s other people like me out there :)
Great Video Jay! I always feel a little worried when I see you driving and talking to the camera haha, hope you are driving safe! Keep the great videos coming!
This is the most genius content marketing. Killing the content game.
Awesome, content - really practical stuff and so dope for anyone building stuff out there. The “online” MBA people can get nowadays is so valuable haha
Also random note: the wide angle video when youre screen sharing is nice seems almost like a Apple keynote lol
Hahaha glad you enjoyed!! Appreciate the support :)
Great video with some great lessons, as always - excited to see you continue to build in public!
Great video I learned a lot
Was preparing for an interview but immediately jumped to this video when I saw you posted. So well edited 😍 I had anxiety watching you drive haha
Thank you Julie!! I promise I was looking at the road lol. Good luck with your interview :)
$HOOD and $SHOP have amazing UX/UI designs! 📸
Was fire
Really good stuff. Question though: Early on you said simplicity is the key and the best apps do ONE thing great. But later on you mention that you had to add a bunch of requested features. Do you feel like you're getting away from your original vision due to customer requests? How do you know where to draw the line? Thanks.
Thanks so much! Danke.
Danke Michael! Always appreciate your support!
Brooooother, believe it or not but you just made me a so much better content creator👀 the grandma test is such a great reminder.
So glad this vid helped!!! It’s seriously such a simple thing but can make a HUGE difference
Can you do a video on team building? (as in, finding the right people). Still can't nail this down. Keep up the videos, you seem so genuinely passionate! :)
Adding this to the list! In case you haven’t seen them, I have a video on hiring, and a few vlogs where I touch on team building (team offsite and day in the life). But I’ll definitely do a deeper dive into the topic at some point!
Thanks for your support!
AND. I just subbed to Stan 👀. Actually I thought it wasn't for me.... But I made it. Welcome to the family💪
Is there any quantitative metrics to monitor if the new design is better?
(the new design looks awesome!)
Awesome video man, do you think you could make a vid on designing posts on social media platforms like instagram?
Legend
You're the legend James😎

hey what are your thoughts on joining YC? Have you ever considered applying?
As a new founder, I wanted to see where can i connect to other new founders and share some value?
design is EVERYTHING
imo it's innate + learned
start with your innate taste. learn learn learn. learn your taste. learn how you're supposed to do it. ignore how you're supposed to do it. create with passion
100%!!! Learn your taste and then develop over time!
Which design creators does Hee-Won suggest to follow?
Heewon suggests: Soren Iverson, Felix Lee, Julie Zhuo, & browsing random designers on Dribbble / Behance

Those wooden steps look scary!
Hahaha you get used to them after a while!
Heewon is a an actual weapon.
Does he have a brother?🤔😂
Or a sister Sheewon?
When the pitch to the billionaire from the last video's coming out?
What’s the rush old sport? All great things in life take patience. I too am looking forward to it. 😎
Dude you have to tell us about what happened with Chamath after his reply👀
Still in the works!!👀🤫
