      @danieldaw1778 5 лет назад +14

      @@TheDarklugia123 This is what bothered me the most. This was clearly a remnant from a different version of the script and how the scene would played out because it doesn't make any fucking sense at all given the scene we actually got.
      I definitely expected something like this to happen given this is a part of CW, where Supergirl is a better, stronger, more effective hero than fucking Superman (who is constantly telling get so because these women babies need constant gratification), so why wouldn't Batwoman be as well?
      But given the scene we got, she's blaming herself for putting on the suit and inadvertantly getting people killed BECAUSE she's explicitly not as good as Batman, yet all of the sudden maybe she's better for LITERALLY no reason at all?
      This is like an all time terrible bit of dialogue because it's a colossal fuck up on every level, from the acting and directing to the writing and editing. This basically had to go through every level of the film/television making process and no one said, "Hey, everybody, I don't think this line makes sense being here, in this scene".
      You don't even have to remove the line from existence entirely (though you should, Kate Kane Batwoman will never be a superior hero to Batman) from the show, but it absolutely should not have been put here, in that scene, in that context.

    • @TheDarklugia123
      @TheDarklugia123 5 лет назад +8

      @@danieldaw1778 agreed. Also, you can see how fucked up is the writing when you realize that she learned nothing, this was suppose to be an episode where she learns to be more responsible and assumes her own identity, with she failing at the middle and returning for a gran finale,appearing with the red wig and making up for her mistakes (now she has her own identity, she not just Batman's shadow).
      But as the plot is presented, she is not responsible and has no mistakes to undo, so when she came back nothing change in her besides her appearance,making the whole scene ridiculous.

    My 5 lowlights of this episode:
    1. Batwoman treats Alice's murder spree like it isn't a big deal, and then later lets her walk away after she's killed again.
    2. The director doesn't understand the physics of elevator crashes, and has people be thrown into the hallway from the impact.
    3. Kate outright saying that she's better than Batman
    4. Kate and Luke personalizing Bruce's suit further at a time when they should be scrambling to save the people in the elevators.
    5. The writers butchering Hush (one of the best newer Batman villains), making him an incompetent idiot with an insane plan.

    • @espalorp3286
      @espalorp3286 5 лет назад +77

      How to write a Batwoman villain:
      Make the female ones sassy, hypercapable, plot invulnerable psychopaths. Aka, Mary Sue with a black coat of paint. They cannot display any human emotions or concerns, such as uncertainty, anxiety, guilt, fear, distress, frustration (perhaps that they aren't getting their way immediately), or anything that may blemish the otherwise uber-cool-reassurance vibe an actor maintains because they know their character is untouchable in the scene they're in.
      Make the men overconfident parodies of the female villains that exude the exact same overconfident reassurance in spades, only to be anticlimactically tossed off the side of a cliff because a lesbian sneezed in their general direction. Even the most intelligent will make stunningly shortsighted life choices at the drop of a hat because the script demands that the villain immediately construct a hostage situation out of thin air.

    I'd like to add that the entire premise of falling elevators is actually not possible. Elevators are fitted with locking mechanisms that snap into teeth on the rail in case the cable snaps. The elevator wouldn't fall more than a few inches. This was perfected in the late 1800s.

    • @tibetorona3366
      @tibetorona3366 4 года назад +52

      Additionally, a runaway elevator would not fall. A runaway elevator would rise. The counterweight is heavier than the actual elevator in order to prevent a fall, as well as to help the elevator to rise in the first place instead of having to spend extra for engines that would be able to do it all on their own. If the counterweight is heavier, all the engines have to be able to do is run it one way (rising and stopping is torque in the same direction).

    Thomas Eliot is a Batman Comic villain, Hush, who had an abusive father and a submissive mother. He hated them both and attempted to kill them as a young man, however Thomas Wayne managed to save his mother, resulting in Eliot having a breakdown where he attacked a boy and was sent to Arkam during a time when Scarecrow was a member of staff. In his storyline, Hush teamed up with the RIdler and used his genius level intellect to construct a plot to drive Bruce over the edge, flood him with paranoia of a conspiracy and using various characters from the DC universe to fuck with Batman. On the surface, Thomas was a reflection of Bruce's public persona, but when his identity as Hush is revealed, he's a twisted version of Bruce who resents Bruce for having a simmilar, yet better life then him.
    This show's generic, whiny rich kid is not Hush.

The plot of this episode revolved around a guy's scheme to steal a special prototype gun specifically because of it's capacity to shoot through the batsuit.
    I want to be sure we all remember just how ludicrously protective the batsuit is...because now, unless every single foe she fights has a railgun, a lightsaber, a powerfist, etc, there is no goddamn way any part of her body besides her chin should be susceptible to harm. This show wasted Tommy Elliot.
    (Spoilers for the comic Batman: Hush)
    Tommy Elliot in the comics is an awesome Batman villain called Hush who toyed with and expertly manipulated Batman for months during the Batman: Hush storyline. He nearly kills Batman at the start of the story by sniping his grappling hook in mid air, he manipulates Batman into having to fight Superman, fakes his own death and frames the Joker for the murder, keeps Batman guessing as to what his real identity is, and is overall just a really great antagonist.
    Tommy Elliot in this show is a complete joke of a villain. He gets easily tricked by Batwoman, has zero tactical or combat skills (doesn't shoot Batwoman and instead tries to hit her with the gun), and gets taken out in one episode. What an absolute waste of this character.

      Great explanation, though I think an even better one I heard about is that apparently there's a comic book storyline where Superman has a nightmare that Batman finally succumbs and kills the Joker, then turns himself in to the police the next day; leaving Gotham without its defender.

    So I just did some research (took like 5 mins). The people in the elevator fell 39 stories. the average height of a story is 10 feet so they fell just shy of 400 feet. In a reference book Trauma Anesthesia, the median lethal fall dist. is about 4 stories which means lethality is about 50/50. It only takes a 7 story fall for lethality to increase to 90%. So yeah, there is no way these people fell over 5x the height that almost guarantees death and live to tell it. Good job at bending the laws of physics to your will for the sake of the plot CW writers.

    1. Grappling hook cannot hold anything like this, literally anything, because it tries to hold it with just two points instead of three. So it'll just tilt in the direction of the free claw and whatever it holds (elevator in this case) will slip.
    2. The amount of kinetic energy in the falling elevator is: mass times velocity squared. To stop falling elevator you have to negate *ALL* of that energy. Even if the metal cord from that grappling hook and the hook itself are strong enough to do that (in which case they must be made from literal indestructible unobtanium) whatever she attaches her end of that cord must be a solid steel beam or equivalent and whatever she uses to keep the cord attached must be made of yet more indestructible unobtanium.

    If Mauler can rightfully complain about Jon's Wolfo not being hugged in season 8, I think its perfectly valid to drive this point home:
    Why is the Kane family so awful? In this universe, Batwoman and Batman are cousins, and after Bruce's parents were killed, his uncle never thought to invite Bruce to live with him and his family? What the fuck?

    20:35 Wait, WHAT?! When Alice ranted in the last episode about how she resented her dad for not looking for her, I assumed she meant for eventually stopping the search and assuming her to be dead. I guess it was dumb for me to assume that, because apparently she thought he has spent _literally_ no time looking for her, and that's why she's an insane murderhobo.

    What Elliot was saying is that he arranged for his parents to die in a car crash so that he could claim his inheritance early. His father died, but Thomas Wayne (a doctor) managed to save his mother. So he was stuck caring for her crippled form for years ago instead of becoming rich. That why he hates the Waynes. And he eventually becomes the villain Hush.
    It’s actually a pretty neat villain story, but MAN does this show not know how to tell stories!!!

    That grappling hook wouldn't even grip that elevator from that angle, it'd slip because none of the prongs on the arms are actually grabbing corners. If it was shot straight through the roof of the elevator it would have pucker the metal outward and the arms could then extend, then the prongs could then grab something while the arms steadied against the ceiling.
    They didn't even need CG for this. The movie Descent, a 2005 film, used a rock wall on moving a conveyor belt behind a cage to simulate a descending elevator. What they could have done is filmed her shoot the hook down, and then filmed the hook penetrating the roof. Then they could have taken a wide shot of the elevator and ran a conveyor belt using a matte gray canvas with some bars and beams to simulate an elevator shaft. There was absolutely no need for that to be CG and look that terrible when there was a cheaper and better option available.
    Another thing is for that wide shot of her standing on the edge of the building, they could have gone anywhere at night to do that. There are no landmarks, buildings, or moving pieces in the shot, it's a clear night sky. Which makes sense since they're on the largest tower in Gotham which would make it the perfect excuse to actually do this.
    Like, what the fuck are you doing?

      Dik Dik Even if it didn't slip (because one of the totally uselessly angled teeth still holds on by chance), it would at least have to angle a little around the metal rail it is attached to as the other claw is not attached to something.
      But then again, that would be proper representation of physics, and physics is science, and science is a white male construct. Can't have that in a "diverse" show, I guess.

    To this show's defense, a woman fell inside an elevator from the Empire State, in the 40s when a bomber crashed, she miraculously survived.
    Modern elevators have independent brake systems, elevators have 4 times the nescessary wires to withstand the "max weight" they advertise,space between of the shaft of the elevator and the elevator itself pressures air so that it slows itself down, it's like trying to close a syringe really fast, there is so much fluid and so little calibre that it doesn't fall at terminal speed. So either non die, or some hurt but not all dead. But exploded onto the hallway? No, that's bullshit, they'd be a mess of flesh and metal or would be badly hurt but alive.
