Thank you! I am sure you considered all the options. I thought it would be nice to make use of the lights but definitely understand! Thank you for your informative videos!
More comments because why not. This may be my favorite video so far: "glitch in the matrix" and "my wife came out and 'we' decided to change it." Pure gold.
Awesome mod - you even got a headrest out of it. Gotta say - your wife was right about the colors. Looks very professional this way, as if it was manufactured to be that way from the start. Hope No Bo is paying attention!
Had you considered getting rid of the platform completely and using the sofa as the base for a folding mattress? It would require some form of support for about 2 feet of mattress at the head and may 4 to six inches at the foot. I'm pretty sure that it is doable, unless I am missing something. The 2 feet or so at the front under the mattress support could also be used for storage, though not easy to get to.
I hadn't considered that, but I'm sure it could work. It would have to fit up high somehow to clear the pass through storage, but I've seen some that are zero clearance on the back and that would allow for it to be mounted on top of the passthrough storage, but it would still have to be on a platform of some kind. I have thought about adding one of those in place of the dinette and just getting a folding table that I could store under it. I think that would create a lot more living space.
Do you have any videos showing opening and closing your new murphy design? Thinking of doing this to our Rockwood 2509s. I dont mind a murphy bed. I just hate that it blocks the window!
Just right there at the end of the video. It's just as easy to put away and my wife does it by herself. I would do a video for you, but our trailer is back at the factory due to some delamination issues. Please, let me know if you have any other questions.
@@RoadandReel around the 14m mark I saw you put the mattress in, but then the scene cut to having the whole cover on, without seeing how it went on. Are you able to keep the bed linens on when it's stored? I didn't see a scene opening and setting it up? Good luck with your repairs!
@@mayasstar Oh, yeah, sorry about that. Yes the linens and everything stay on. We tuck the pillows into the side compartments next to the bed before folding it up. And thanks, I hope they don't take too long getting it fixed. We've had to cancel 3 trip already, but at least it should be finished before the peak season.
Considering getting the 2023 19.3 and if I do definitely doing this. Nice job! The lack of a silver drawer is a bummer. Considering magnetic holders since it's not critical to have a boat load of utensils. Do you recall the MSRP when you bought it? Your's a 2019?
Ours is a 2021 and MSRP was right at $26K and with the added solar and tank heaters, etc. it came out to $32K. We got a nice little utensil tray for our pantry and it works just fine.
@@RoadandReel Wow. Big change. MSRP now around 46k. Found a dealer a few hours from me offering 35% off but still gonna wait a few months to see if the manufacturer steps up with discounts. Thinking a major downturn in trailer sales and the economy in general is coming. Thank you for the info.
@@graybear7084 I completely agree. I think they're will be many used trailers in new condition on the market, soon. Hopefully that pushes manufacturers to lower their prices a bit.
I am curious why you went over the lights? I noticed you still have some room between the end of the board and back wall. I am not an engineer by any means but was thinking if you went under the lights the table would be lower and longer. Otherwise, trying to convince my husband we want to do this mod!!❤
It's a tight squeeze to get the bed past the lights. Other than that, there's plenty of room. We don't have any regrets and have done about 20k miles with this mod still hanging in there.
@@RoadandReel I just knocked it out after work yesterday. I used your parts list for the most part, but picked up a latch from ACE that seems to work well. For the removing foam portion of the halves to insert, I did a couple of things different that sped up the process. BEFORE using the wood chisel, take a jigsaw with a general purpose blade and cut into the foam, using the edge of the bed material as your guide. This will allow you to take the foam out in huge chunks and save on the scraping mess. I didn't figure this part out until the second piece when I was covered in foam. I also used hardwood scraps as my insert to strengthen the mounting points for the hinge. I repurposed the bottom trim(that sits behind the sofa) and used it for my top half, and then took the trim that sits up against the window, and used it for my other folding half piece. No need for metal or installing other trim as those two pieces are always hidden in either configuration of bed or sofa.
@@hedmisten smart! I had that foam everywhere! 😆 Also, great idea on the trim. I don't think Forest River is going to make their Murphy Beds like this anytime soon, so if we ever end up with another, I'll be doing this mod again. Thanks for sharing!
Do you know what the switch is for next to the USB port on the side of the sink? I like what your did with the bed, I feel it is an eye sore they way they designed it.
Thanks, I feel like they could have done this at the factory pretty easily. Our switch next to the sink turns on a light below it. It lights up the shelf area where spices might go.
yeah, but then you always have to use a folding mattress right? those are so comfortable, said no one ever. I get the desire to expose the window, but if your sleep is sucky, I don't think the mod is worth it 🤷♀️
they should come this way from the factory .. it opens it up Soo much more .. and adds much needed light
We are out camping in it right now and we can't believe the difference. It feels so much more welcoming.

I modded mine a few weeks ago. Not hard, just a bit time consuming. Definitely worth the effort.
@@Blue2366 definitely! We still love ours.
What a great modification. They should be manufactured this way
Thanks!

Yes, I have to agree. I really wish this was standard.
Awesome! Now you can see the window.
Love this! I was thinking how I didn't like that the bed covered the window!
Right? This should totally be a factory option.
Thank you!! We did our and turned out perfect!
You're welcome and that's good to hear!
This is the best mod ever!
Especially since it was mostly your idea!
Cameo appearance! Great idea to be able to use the window.
Absolutely awesome. My next mod for my NB 19.2 thanks for

Seriously genius. Patent it so forest river has to pay you to reproduce it!
I've sent them the video and talked with them, but they aren't in a hurry to start doing it.
Thanks for the detailed video! Great Job!
Excellent job !!
Thank you!

This is an awesome idea....
Thanks! We had to run an extra screw into the latch attachment, but it's been thousands of miles without issue.

Where did you find the panel you cut in half and hinged?

Planning to knock this mod out within the weekend. Still happy with the design and function?
Yeah, it's still holding in there. I might add that second latch on the other side, but it held up for 6,500 miles this summer.

What kind of mattress are you using?
@@Sandra-cc5bi the one from the factory with a 4" memory foam topper from Costco.
The one we have now, I’m assuming from the factory, is pretty thin. The one in the video looked pretty thick.
Nice!
Love it! Thank you for the idea
No problem! We still love ours!
I've sent this to Forest River-- needs to be factory...
Thanks! And I agree, especially with the new split factory mattress that fits without modifying.
Love this!
What kind of split factory mattress? We bought a “new to us” 2021 FR NoBo 19.6 a few months ago. The mattress is AWFUL!
Great video! Are you using the original mattress or a custom tri-fold mattress?
This is the same two-fold mattress that came from Forest River.
And some peaches

I sleep on a one piece 4" memory foam topper that is on top of the original mattress. It's pretty comfortable and I sleep pretty well.
My mattress is like 30/70. Yours is like 50/50 fold.
I'm wondering if Forest River is using whatever they can find?
Ours too Abe. I am going to order a trifold and we are going to attempt this mod this weekend…I think! 😬😬😬😬
Still waiting for the link on the mattress topper...
It was a Costco buy. They have a lot of options online! I cant remember the exact one we have.
Dude! Your wife is hot!
