    I don't work in construction, it's never even crossed my mind to own a pickup truck until now, but I love how the F150 Lightning is just so practical, and in this case I think simplicity is a good thing. I really don't need to feel like I'm driving a spaceship (Cybertruck), just want something reliable that will let me go offroading/camping with zero issues.

    My wife owns a Model X and I have to say it is a very nice SUV. I currently own a 20 Raptor and love my truck but...........I would consider this as an option where I never would have before. You mentioned dealers availability and I will tell you I have a Tesla dealer right down the street from me and the customer service is the worst I have ever dealt with in my life. Tesla's aren't cheap so one would think they treat you very well without hassle. That is not the case at all. Even though I feel the Model X is a solid vehicle if you need service from California and Florida you would be lucky to find someone that treats you right and handles your concerns without issue. Great review and I can't wait to see this truck in person.

    Best overview on the web. Fix the Audio! Add cost comparison between Gas and Electric powered vehicles of the same trim and option level. Forty Percent savings in maintenance is an impressive number but it doesn't mean anything if you don't have a fix on what the real dollars are. Those numbers should be available from Ford in current and in future dollars. What are the maintenance actions that are needed on the electric truck?

  • @beebob1279
    @beebob1279 2 года назад +1

    I'm assuming the big issue isn't manufacturing the electric vehicles. The issue is providing the charging stations if you're not able to get home to charge. I've got a prius prime. It's a plug in / gas hybrid and I love it. For those of you who think plugging in the vehicle would be a hassle, it isn't. When you get out of your truck or car the first thing you do is plug it in and go inside. When you're ready to leave for a drive, unplug it and close the cover. Off you go. It doesn't take away from your time.
    I'm excited for the future of our automobiles. I will have to wait for a while as the prices will hopefully fall. I would like the Lariat or the upgrade but those are out of my budget.

    I'd be interested to hear more about using the truck as a backup generator for your house. What kind of wiring will need to be done on the house? If your house has solar panels there has to be a switch that kicks in a prevents power from being sent back to the grid. This is to protect people working on the power lines.

      If you have a transfer switch installed by an electrician that is fed by a standard NEMA 10-30 or 10-50 RV plug, the F-150 Lightning should be able to directly plug in to your home. Look up videos on Transfer switch installations for more details. They're all over RUclips.

    Not all dealerships are the same! I pre-ordered, using the local dealership, about 1.5 miles from me. Immediately after ordering, they are reaching out to me to 'push' me into something else, today, not recognizing that I pre-ordered the Lightning, or not caring. Had I seen your video first, I probably would have used your link because I am tired of how the normal dealership salesman does not care about the customer or what they want, but only wants a commission, today!
    The standard dealership model is a failure, in my mind, because of the majority of dealerships. The ones that care for their customers are few and far too far apart. Thanks for your effort.

    My main concern is I use my truck as a truck. I pull a lot with my truck and I can not see the lightning 300-mile range being anywhere close to that pulling a 7500lb trailer. I do not think electrification is here to stay until they can extend ranges for trucks.

    Another good video from Town and Country!!!
    I'm very interested in this truck and EV in general. One of my biggest concerns is our current power grind and being able to handle a huge increase in electricity to power the move to all electric vehicles.
    I guess they are doing away with power steps due to the battery packs.
    I would like to know with current electric rates, how much it cost to charge a EV to full??
    Keep up the good work and keep the info flowing.

    • @bburton333
      @bburton333 3 года назад +4

      In the short run, don't be concerned with the electrical grid. Charging at night helps even out the load and if you can get a time-of-use rate, could be even cheaper to charge overnight. Ford hasn't announced the kWh capacity of their batteries but what you can look at is their three charging options and then using your electric bill, calculate how many kWh it would take to charge the battery a certain amount. Given how many miles you currently drive, it should be possible to determine how often you will need to charge and for how long assuming the ranges Ford has provided. For many EV's, it costs from 1/4 to 1/3 as much to fill as compared to an equivalent ICE vehicle but you have to do your own calculations to see the difference.

    Another notable option apparently getting priced up now is the Co-Pilot 360 Active 2.0 package with Ford BlueCruise: that’s the automaker’s hands-free driver assistance system, for use on mapped highways. It’ll be $1,825 on the Lariat, and standard on above trims.

    Interested being from the UK.
    Looking for an electric pickup when they come on line that quite rightly has the backup of a dealership for maintenance.
    Not convinced by the jump to $90,000 for the platinum range as the technology doesn't cost $38,000.
    Take all the fancy jargon out & it's mainly programming, a bit of leather & some extra plastic.
    The XLT should be the biggest seller.
    Hopefully see some in the UK 👍

      Everyone is showing off the Platinum which is the top of the line 90K trim. The Pro series is the basic trim aimed for builders and contractors and it costs 40K. The Pro series is gonna be the game changer that makes electric pickups accessible to the common man.

    • @ratstrat1984
      @ratstrat1984 2 года назад

      I totally agree. That $90k price sounds way high. Seems like they're gouging people who want the best model. The moonroof must be $15k along with a $12k touchscreen. Guess that's what you get for wanting the first of a ground-breaking type of vehicle.
      Also, that 8 year warranty doesn't sound all that great to me. Look at all of these 10 year old Teslas. 8 years seems to be the right time to cut off the warranty, if you're the CEO of Ford Motor Company. And replacing a battery of this size is going to be costly. Some of these Tesla owners are getting bills for $16k-$22k. Will these batteries be more expensive? Bigger vehicle, they just might be. So, the less maintenence argument kind of falls on its face a bit. Not much until year 9 or 10, then all the maintenence at once.
      But I do love the idea of the E F150. The home generator option is an attractive option for a lot of people.

    The F150 Power Boost 2022 may not be a total electric truck, but it is available now and can power a home during a power outage. It doesn’t have to be plugged in to change the 7.2 KW battery. It is a hybrid and charges it’s self as long as you can put gasoline in the 30 gallon tank! There is no Frunk but the range is much better then 230 miles. The range is about two and a half times as far and takes only five minutes to top off and go another 600 miles. The Power Boost is One Smart Truck and a loaded Lariat goes for the price of a long range Pro Lightning. I got one, Have you Driving a Ford Lately?

In all the charging stations I have seen, you have to pull into a parking space which doesn't sound very practical if you are towing. Hopefully, Ford has plans to help build out the charging network with proper "gas stations" like charging stations soon.

    Great explanation of the new Lightening. I'm wondering how much it's going to cost to have a charger installed at your home? Where are the charging stations available for the vehicle? Will it use ANY current charger? Will dealerships have chargers? How much would the upgraded battery be in the XLT package? I'm not sold on all-electric vehicles and I just bought a new 2020 XLT SuperCrew 4x4 a year ago with the 5.0 V-8 which I love. I like the fact that this truck will haul whatever I need and without an engine or trannie to service and/or maintain it looks pretty good. But Vegas is 240 miles from the house and there ain't any charging stations on that drive so it's a stretch to really travel great distances in this vehicle. I ran the wheels of my 2013 XLT driving to Utah, Idaho and parts unknown -- I'm just not sure that electric will provide that cruising range. Overall this is the best video about the vehicle to date.

The miles was with 1000lb payload in the back so with the extended range he was seeing 400+ and the battery wasn't fully charged. Most online sites are saying $1200 to install the charging station. Also this will actually be better at towing than any gas powered vehicle. There are no gears that needed to be shifted through the truck will just go with all of it's torque.

    • @bret9741
      @bret9741 3 года назад

      @@bryan-cv2ew I hope so. I remember when Radial engines were still in use in the airlines and cargo especially. The transition was very fast for big airlines but it took a lot longer for small companies. The cost to purchase new vs repair existing or buying used was just so much lower it kept these companies going for another 30-40 years. But once these aircraft were worn out…. Most of these companies closed because jets and new turboprops were just too expensive for small companies to manage the cost.
      I think we’ll see construction and a lot of small companies driving oil based fuels for another 20 years. Hopefully by then we’ll see really affordable EV’s that can pull heavy trailers and not break the bank.
      One side of my family used RV’s extensively, actually my sister and brother in law have a higher end class A motor home they use 120-150 days a year. Both can work anywhere in the world so they chose to just change their scenery every week or two. EV based RV’s and 1-1.25 ton pickups would be welcome if they can meet the price and performance of a diesel.
      I still believe anything. Over a half ton truck is going to need hydrogen or some other form of fuel to bring the range up. The Germans are focusing on hydrogen pretty heavily but at the same time they are also slowly increasing their use of natural gas and oil…. In spite of their moving to “alternative green fuels”.
      I like natural gas, I use it on our work trucks and in our homes. We see 99% efficient gas furnaces in Lee’s certified homes we build. It’s not unusual for our clients homes (3500-6000 sq ft) near Canada in the N. US to have heating bills of less than $120 in mid winter. We have not been able to move to electric heat as the heat pumps and geothermal (we have installed a boat load over the last 12 years) have not been any where nearly as cost effective or reliable as traditional gas furnaces. We use tankless hot water and I’ve installed electric but they only can produce about 2 gpm in mid winter. The natural gas units are rated 13 gpm but only achieve 7 mid winter. But, 7 will run most homes.
      It’s an interesting time. If manufacturers can pull it off, we could see a lot of changes in the transportation industry and some changes in the residential.
