when i first hit the show circuit i was not ready for it but i felt i needed to get myself out there and pay my dues. i didnt know i needed a table cloth. i had shoeboxes. slowly but surely i have upgraded everything. so sometimes it is not about being a garbage breeder, it is just not having the experience. i will go over and talk to the breeder and see where they are. those cues are turnoffs but i know from experience that it isn't quite so cut and dried.

The main issue I see is most breeders are somewhere in between great and garbage.

In the Midwest starting as a new breeder, the nido thing is terrifying. Im glad I vet my breeders as much as I do, and glad I have good biosecurity in my home.
That said, I strongly disagree on the tupperware thing- As a new breeder Im putting most of my spare money into making sure my animals have clean bedding, enrichment, and larger than the baseline enclosures. I dont have standard deli cups right now, because there are cheaper, larger and more secure containers. Most of my animals will be going home in bags, and having the option to clean and sanitize the containers (or send them home if that happens) is an expense that Im not ready to drop a bunch on, because I can only order the nice delis in huge quantities. Ask questions, but it on its own is NOT that big of a red flag.

VERY good video. For me, enrichment for my snakes is a moral question. I breed in racks but provide large river stones common in my neighborhood. All my two dozen breeders use them constantly to crawl over and rest on letting them lift their heavy bodies off the flat plastic tub. They get to use their muscles a tiny bit and they are one big muscle that needs to grab and push against different surfaces. Stones are also excellent heat sinks 👍🏼

Thats why i always look at the last updated date. Still annoying when people dont update their info for years, but sometimes its not neglecting the animal, its not keeping up online. Still disqualifies them for me tho.

Sadly this happens a lot, even at shows, but dont underestimate the fact that these snakes sometimes grow slow. I have 2 holdback snakes from 2022, that eat weekly, from the same clutch, both holdbacks and are just eclipsing that 300 gram mark. Theyre plump, well fed (not overfed) slow growers 🤷‍♂️ Ive seen this a few times a year with a fairly small collection. Some breeders may see more cases like this, but I agree with your point.

I've had a ball python for 34yrs. The problem is Too Many Breeders. These snakes are not taken care of,spider gene, champagne are examples of greed hurting the snakes. It's like a puppy mill now and having an OG ball from the 80s it makes me sad to see these once beautiful snakes morphed into money, some close to 100k,that's insane. There should be a limit to # of breeders allowed in the US and each breeder should be inspected twice a year. The problem is greed and way to many people grabbing at the cash. There is way to many of you breeders out there and that's the issue.

In any other snakes feeding live is a red flag. Not in BP’s though; “Gotta get that return on my ‘investment’ bro.” Only 24 percent of BP’s on MM are on FT. Congratulations everyone, we’re making prettier, lower quality animals.

A garbage breeder believes that excessive linebreeding to the point that it becomes inbreeding is a good thing and makes the animals better.
They've never heard of hybrid vigor nor the risk of locking in bad transcription errors along with the good.
That is why we have wobble syndrome, the lethal pairings, duck beak, too small or large eyes, no eyes, and other deformities. People can blame it on incubation issues all they want, but then why is it happening to the same lines belonging to other breeders as well?
I have an animal science background and have bred other animals. Reptile or not, breeding just for a pretty color does a diservise to the species. If one breeds they should always look at how they can improve the breed. Sound, ideal form comes first, then temperament, and then color.
I picked my first male based on beautiful head shape, he has an exquisite refined delicate head and neck that flows well into the rest of his body. He happens to be a leopard yellow belly and hopefully will refine the banana yellow belly female we have. Who is nice but could have a better head shape.
The snake genetics should be about more than just color. Both in that pairing are laid back and easy to handle. They are also good feeders and curious snakes. It's the type of snake experience I would want first time owners to have.

Also in the midwest- theres honestly not a lot of information out there right now, other than the Grand Rapids show and the Kalamazoo show in Michigan have been effected. Im vaguely aware that things are trying to be tracked down. Personally, Im waiting on buying anything locally unless someone hasnt had any intakes in like half a year, and making sure to ask questions on how they quarantine and keep biosecurity. I admin a few groups for Michigan breeder and keepers, and when there is information we are going to post it. We are currently working on a writeup to put out there on how to keep your collection safe.

I would love to call out a couple guys on youtube but it might upset the snowflakes in the industry and ruin our sales in the future. Lol can't even ask them to "ID" an animal without paying for a patreon membership. That's sad

breeders are at different levels/stages and have different amounts of money or funds and experience, breeders with a budget to a old huge breeder that has milked customers selling them expensive animals that necessarily dont cost that much..small breeders can use no display enclosures and no table cloth and still be a good breeder, fancy doesnt mean great it just means you hide the bad stuff....many of the big breeders have all the suppose good qualities but do all that shitty work at their breeding facility...Ive seen huge breeders that have everything fancy but yet their animal sits in shit all day and has no water for months and use the same water dish for their whole life its hard to say, its not that simple as u make it seem...but your promoting yourself as one of the great so makes sense why u would talk like this

Just because someone doesn't have fancy tablecloths or containers I don't believe that makes them a garbage breeder, maybe they can't afford extra stuff yet if they're new in the business and they're putting all the money into the care of the animals? But thank you again for another video😊
