      the original Nemesis DID NOT stalk you all over the place like Mr. X in the RE2 Remake.... Every single encounter with Nemesis in the original game WAS SCRIPTED..... Every single time. And then when the scripted part is done, he follows you until you reach a certain point where he is scripted to go away. So you're either remembering the game wrong, or you're not a very big fan like you make yourself out to be. I agree that this game does quite a few things wrong, but this is just a shit review. bad information all over this video. if this were my video, i would take it down and do another review fixing all the errors and misinformation.

    About the action feeling more action-y: Jill is a literal super-cop. Her crosshair closes in way faster than Leons or Claires because both of them haven't had training while Jill is a seasoned police officer in a special unit. I thought that was kind of a cool detail actually.

    "In 2 no sacrifices were made, no corners were cut"
    I'm sorry, but thats a LIE.
    REmake 2 cut spiders, crows, Zombie Brad Vickers, the huge moth found in the lab, no bowgun, no EX battle, no alternative costumes. Instead DLC for costumes you had to pay for. Also lets not forget how REmake 2 butchered the A/B scenarios and didn't do that part any justice compared to the original.

      RE2 Remake was great, but all of those were kind of bad except the spiders and crows. Giant spiders are super cartoony and crows were just annoying. We already have hunters and those RE0 monkeys as being one of the most annoying RE enemies, we don’t need crows.

      You might be the only other person who has the same opinion as me of the spiders and crows. I do like the spiders in RE1/Remake. Not only are they frequent but they actually actually interferes with you. They were an obstacle. Some could be totally avoided but some did pose as a challenge. I ran past the spider in RE2 every time. If it was never implemented in the game I wouldn’t care.
      Crows can sit in a dick. They are stupidly annoying and just awful in general. Why crows?? I’m happy they didn’t use bats since those are clichè and just as dumb, but those are at least silly and funny (kind of like the wasps in RE1/Remake

    • @hybridkidd
      @hybridkidd 4 года назад +38

      If you beat hardcore mode it unlocks alternative costumes. Free. You're wrong on that point. And other things they left out should not be seen as cutting corners, but instead simply as not using everything in the original and replacing it with other things (which they did). The producer himself said RE2 was more of a reimagining than a remake. The stuff that didn't carry over may not have been worth it over what we ended up with.
      Edit: They did fudge the a/b scenarios though. Still ended up with gold, so it's a bit hard to complain much.

    Did Nemesis in the original RE3 really chase you more? Havent played that game for more than 15 years, but i am pretty sure he only appeared on pre determined parts and couldnt chase you for more than maybe one room.
    And praising RE2 Remake for not cutting corners? It also cut the B Playthrough and mashed their distinctive feature into one Playthrough (Burkin was Route A in the original, Mr. X was Route B). Sure, there is somewhat of a Route B but it only changes item/enemy placement and the route you take through the same locations. Route B in the original was way more different than that.
    I mean you are probably right, RE3 Remake is not as high quality as RE2 Remake but if you say it delivered on all fronts when it also cut things from the original undermines your point here.

    • @MysteriousStranger50
      @MysteriousStranger50 4 года назад +27

      Thats not cutting, thats refining. Im sure many players liked the chill of Mr X showing up on playthrough one. THIS game CUT content. The outside is practically non existent now, the park is gone, the clock tower is gone, the choices are gone, Nemesis in his original form is gone, the extra modes are gone.
      I mean ressy 3 created mercenaries, imagine the shock of this game having NO additional modes? and in the UK its more expensive then RE2R was at £50.
      RE2R didnt copy paste EVERYTHING over but it never felt like anything was cut, just changed and refined into a new game. A great feature of that game is it and the original can exist together, one is not necessarily better than the other and there is reason to play the remake and the original.
      Nemesis in RE3 wasnt like MrX of RE2R but he did kinda have that sense to him, he would randomly show up, yes there are only so many spots he could, but you woudnt KNOW where, and he may not even pop up if he could. He had SOME scripted parts, but the fact he could randomly STARS his way in, AND chase you through a loading door was scary to say the least.
      Here, he is literally on par with an Uncharted "Cutscene-Gameplay" segment. And no hate for Uncharted but its hardly immersive or scary to have to run down a corridor as things happen just behind you, knowing you are safe, because thats just how Uncharted style segments work.

      In RE3 original Nemesis did show up pretty randomly but it also depended on the choices you made. If you picked the same choices on two playthroughs he would spawn in the same locations and you could spot the pattern; but if you picked different choices he also changed his spawn patterns pretty significantly. (Aside his scripted encounters of course)

    • @GavoKP
      @GavoKP 4 года назад +16

      I played the Original RE3 more times than I can count and I can safely say this: Nemesis encounters are SCRIPTED. It doesnt happen anywhere he feels like it; he jumps out of the window at the RCPD after you get a certain key item and you make your way out to use it, same goes after extinguish the fire in the alley.
      He DOES chase you around the city if you dont lose/defeat him quickly through 2 to 3 rooms.
      But here's the point the review was trying to make regarding that FEEL OF RANDOMNESS: Depending on your choices, Nemesis could appear in one location instead of another. And more importantly, there are a handful of times where he could appear in front of you without any kind of warning, whereas this remake seems to introduce the "chase scene" to you via cutscene.
      RE3 was my first and still my favourite RE game of all time and, IMO, getting rid of the Critical Decision System (which allowed to you to jump from escenario to escenario mid playtrhough) and the Advanced Ammo Crafting was a BIG mistake from their part.

    Nemesis has always been scripted, he's never been a ''stalk you at random'' villian, but that's coming from someone that's played the original countless times. He only appeared when you triggered an event ,or you know picked up a key item. I mean I would've appreciated if he was appearing at random, but that doesn't bother me. The only reason it feels like he doesn't appear much, is because they cut most places, and things you do to trigger him where he'd actually appear, making it seem like he's always there. Also...let's be real...no remake will be as great as the 1st remake :P. I will agree however the $60 tag is a bit pricey, so best to wait for a sale if you choose that option instead.

      I think the re2 remake is better than the gamecube remake. At least they reimagined the gameplay. The re1 remake maintains the archaic isometric view and tank controls. Nostalgia fanatics can take that as a positive, but the role of a remake is to evolve the original formula to a point of making it on par with current software. And tank controls are definitely a thing of the past, born and died in the ps1 era. I still remember how people praised metal gear solid for getting rid of these obnoxious controls, even in 98 people already despised these controls.

I like both and resident evil feels like a walk in the park compared to silent hill. You can fight back in resident evil + you know the threat is something mundane. Resident Evil 2 remake, yes, this one creates the right atmosphere, the jump scares are legit (because one zombie is enough to kill you early), etc.. but the isometric resident evil are laughable. And who knows, if we had a modern take on silent hill, maybe this game would make resident evil 2 remake feels childish as well.

    Being one of the few that already finished the game, I wholeheartedly agree, sadly.
    While RE2R felt like a faithful reimagination of the original, RE3R felt like a thrown together cash grab to ride on the wave.
    While it's by no means a bad game, it is a letdown and pretty mediocre. It is very linear, short and the characters are basically thrown in without any meaning.
    I played Hardcore for my first run and it took 8hs. Playing Standard for my 2nd run and I'm already halfway through again with barely an hour played, while still not skipping anything, which is hard anyway, since it's so linear to begin with.
    I would recommend getting it when its on sale for 30-40 bucks, but it's not worth full price(unless you love Resistance).
    Resistance is its own mess...Masterminds are completely overpowered...you can defeat any group of Survivors with ease as long as you are somewhat competent as a Mastermind.

      What Skill Up didn't mention, which makes it even worse, is that these events only really happen during the first quarter of the game until your first boss fight against him. After that boss fight he only ever shows up again in cutscenes, or following boss fights and that's it 🙁

    What you and many RUclipsrs say about Nemesis being a random threat in the original is complete lie. RE3's nemesis encounters were made to look random, in reality they are no random at all but scripted based on when you found a specific item or did some action, hench why it's also a gamble fighting him for his drops or running and loosing the chance to take some parts. the remake is probably not hiding this as good as the original but you shouldn't keep spreading this misinformation that the Nemesis in the original Resident Evil was a random encounter, if anything I thank everything that he wasn't because even at his current state after the first 8 or so encounters he wasn't any longer a constant heart pounding threat as you call him but a complete annoyance and probably the reason why I haven't played RE3 as much as 2 and Veronica. Would you rather pay $60 for 100 hours for a lack luster time sink with repeat objectives or $60 for a 10 hour well crafted experience that makes every moment memorable and worth multiple playthroughs? • @markcobuzzi826
      @markcobuzzi826 4 года назад +20

      *From what I am gathering, he seems to be referencing these two things:*
      1.) In the original, Nemesis would spawn at more times, during which you needed to backtrack all around Raccoon City in no specific order. This did a good job of at least creating the illusion that you were being actively hunted, while you were freely roaming Raccoon City, deciding where your next route would be, and weighing the risks of leaving the safe areas while he was at large. In the remake, he is making it sound as though a lot more of Nemesis' scripted appearances are during situations, in which the only direction you can go is forward. So more of the scripted appearances feel exactly like ordinary scripted set-pieces, and Nemesis comes across more often as Ustanak from RE6, rather than the original Nemesis or even new Mr. X in RE2 Remake.
      2.) Nemesis starts transforming his Tyrant body in the middle of the story, rather than at the very end. Once he begins his transformations, he then only confronts you during mandatory boss fights or interactive cutscenes. In the original, Nemesis continued to stalk in his humanoid form as Jill was exploring the clock tower, Carlos was returning from the hospital, and when Jill started leaving the clock tower to go through the Raccoon Park. I heard people criticizing that this makes Nemesis feel more like how William Birkin was implemented than how the old Nemesis was.

    You can tell, from a structural standpoint, that the developers either ran out of money or time on this one when it came time to push this game out from the higher ups at Capcom.
    The quick of it without spoilers is: RE3make is divided into roughly 5 Acts. Acts 1, 3, & 5 you play as Jill, while in Acts 2 & 4 you play as Carlos. While there are certainly potential issues people might have with Acts 1, 2, 4, and 5, I think they work for the most part. It's Act 3 that's the real problem.
    In the released game, Act 3 is literally just an interstitial path to a boss fight, then the boss fight, and buffered with cutscenes on all ends. In the original RE3 this is where the game slows down in two areas: the Park and the Clock Tower/City Hall. You deal with a different boss monster entirely, and its where you encounter the games notoriously toughest puzzle. It's a needed lull period in between all the action that adds a bit more of the survival horror to the experience (especially the horror, because the gravedigger is pretty gross).
    You can tell they were working on this at SOME point too, because they modeled the Clock Tower exterior and you see a lot of trees and public park like models and objects around on part of the interstitial path to the cutscene that starts the boss fight. Assets like these don't get modeled in the photogrammetry method they're using for the RE engine for no reason because it's actually really costly to do so. At some point they were planning a fuller park/clock tower sequence.
    It's a shame it was cut, because the game needs it. As much as it needs a stalker AI for Nemesis, Live Selection, and Mercenaries. I only really have hope that we'll get Mercenaries though, since it's literally a model swap mini-game that re-uses sections of levels already in the game based on racking up high scores against a timer, and all of the models in the OG mercenaries mode - Mikhail, Carlos, and Nikolai, are all already in the game.

      The reason they were cut because it was rushed, capcom should've took at least 2 or 3 years to complete and polish the remake. Capcom just wanted to get this game out a year after the re2 remake, just to rush it out of the door.

    Excellent review my friend, and I'm only half way through it. I felt very short-changed by RE2 due to the fact that they could have easily implemented the zapping system to add a shit-ton of replayabiliby to the game, but for whatever reason they chose not to. Before RE2 remake was even announced I always contemplated that it would come with a dynamic option to play parallel with another player - you play scenerio A/B while they play scenerio B/A and you'd meet at select meeting points to take on a boss, solve a puzzle etc. Anyway, I digress. The fact that RE3 is only FIVE hours long and excludes large chunks of the original is a kick in the teeth. Not only that but RE3 does not need to be more action paced. Sure it can have its moments, but it doesn't need to sway away from the whole reason why we fell in love with the RE games in the first place. Did they not learn anything from RE6, and how they turned it back around with RE7? Nevertheless, I won't be buying this and will happily wait for it to come out on PS+ next year.

    The fact that a game made 20 years ago having better boss enemy AI as well as more areas, playability, choices, endings and so on, than a modern game, speaks volumes about how AAA developers see the modern market and reflect the consumers as well on what we collectively allow and reject. Its pathetic.

    You claim that you're a fan of the original, but I really feel that you're remembering it incorrectly. Nemesis did not behave randomly in the original, and I don't know how so many environments could be missing, there we only a few to begin with. Anyone expecting this to be even remotely as good as 2 was kidding themselves, it was apparent the moment they announced the multiplayer would be included. This is remake of the weakest title in the franchise, this was never going to compare to 2 unless they rebuilt it, but that isn't a remake. I respect your opinion but so much of what you're saying rings false. They should have left the branching paths I completely agree. But 5 hours, did you just rush or was it remotely completionist? My first demo run was 1 hour how could this only be 5? Are you misremembering Nemesis? Because it sounds like it's exactly the same. Are there really large sections of the game missing? I'll have to see for myself but this feels like a case of unrealistic expectations. Lastly, I really don't like the concept that multiple reviewers are throwing around that this should be dlc, it doesn't matter what the original intent was. RE3 was a full retail game with it's own strengths and weaknesses and this is a remake of that, I really don't agree that tacking it on to another title to pretend it didn't really exist is a massive overreaction. I really hope the negativity around this title doesn't prevent other remakes, which was my exact fear when I heard 3 was next, it is not as good as people remember.
