After having played through the game like 5 times on normal with friends, I had gotten used to the scares and I knew exactly what to do in each situation. The game was just that to me- a game. Playing on madhouse immediately brought back the tension. Things are switched up enough to make sure you don’t quite know what’s going on, and the way jack just teleports around the house to fuck with you totally caught me off guard. I had just beat him in the garage, and “knew” that he wouldn’t be around until I drained the bath, but then, as I ran up to the upstairs door, I heard heavy footsteps that could only be Jack’s. Needless to say, I immediately ran back to the safe room and got up to go make food
To me Resident Evil 7 was when Capcom got one my radar again. I hadn’t bought a Capcom game in years then I played RE7, Monster Hunter World, RE2R, and played the best DMC games to catch up for 5. I fell in love with the fucked up world Ethan entered. It did everything Resident Evil was meant to be but in a first person perspective. It feels like several types of horror movies, one for each character. I hope RE8 does what this game did.
Hmmm idk. Wasn't a fan of the setting. Felt to much like Outlast and the mold monsters weren't really scary compared to Re2 remake zombies and Lickers in a city.
@@UnifiedEntity Not at all, outlast was more of a horror walking simulator, this is a actual survival horror plus even if it is too much like outlast its MUCH better than it the scares are way more intense the atomsphere is way creepier among other things, and the monsters arent that scary true but the people in the family are the scariest ive ever seen in any game or movie this games scares beats really any game ive ever played.
@@UnifiedEntity I agree that the molders feel pretty repetitive. I nonetheless loved RE7 and I feel like the antagonists personnalities and clear theme of fucked up family relationships were a step up from RE2 (I only playe as claire so far though) where you only have the "Umbrella is evil" aspect. Even if yes, enemy variety is better in RE2. I think that if RE8 manages to use 7's uprades in terms of story and atmosphere and combine it with 2's variety we might be going places.

Correction for the message bit: the “stay away” message is not the one Ethan got that brought him to Dulvey. Rather, that was the last message he had received from Mia prior to her disappearance. The message he actually got was a simple “I’m in Dulvey, find me” email. For some reason this is not communicated well at all and the email can be easily missed.
theres a trade off though. Obviously better overall scares/immersion but with badly degraded blurry visuals potentially causing nausea and just the general clunkiness of having a PSVR set up.
Just wanna say that the comedic tone and the editing style that went into this is such a good addition. Looking forward to more videos like this as well as 1 hour videos of ships turning ;)
When re7 released i was afraid of horror so much that i would hide away if anyone tried to show me any scarry movies or games. So when i got Re7 i actually enjoyed it a lot even tho most of the time i covered my eyes like with Mia first encounter or when margret became a boss. Re7 is just a beautiful well crafted game that even made me love horror
My theory is this: RE8 and 9 will be first person. And the remakes of 4, Veronica, etc will all keep the 3rd person. That way everyone wins. I love both perspectives. Can’t wait for RE8! ❤️🦁🙏👍

This video melted my heart. It's so good to see people still discovering what a gem Resident Evil 7 turned out to be - unexpectedly so too! And you STILL haven't experienced all of it because Madhouse and the DLC's higher difficulties are a different game, literally, and not just in terms of being 'harder'. Give Madhouse a try!!
When i first heard of the game coming out, i was expecting it to fail because it was so different to the previous games and i didn’t expect to like The new character, Ethan. I was so glad that the game proved me wrong.
This gotta be one of my favorite games in the series. I had the best time going through the puzzles and the house, getting shit scared. It really feels like a RE again.
Easily up there with the funniest of your videos ever. It really shows that you had such a good time with both the game and making the video. Had me in absolute stitches with the sound edits and sarcastic asides. "Really could have done with that information a little earlier, mate." XD

The staples to the hand works because Ethan was infected with the Mold when he was knocked out, over the course of the night Ethan begins to experience the hallucinations that accompany Eveline's Mold, he was just not infected long enough for Eveline to control since Eveline dies that morning
Many people missed out on Resident Evil 7 because first person and 'Outlast and P.T copy'. Many people didn't like Ethan because he lack of reaction and personality. I personally like him and Mia.
I didn't play RE7 for the first year it was out because I was waiting for VR support for PC. When it didn't materialize it just kind of fell off because I'm busy and there's so much other stuff to play. I literally finally finished RE7 maybe two days before this video lol
The Louisiana driving shots were SO True Detective S1. I do love the few nice homages to other properties, and the game does them without feeling like it's just ripping them off or shirking its Resident Evil heritage. Such a fun game.
Re7 from the beginning until after the battle with Marguerite is my favorite "section" in any Resident Evil game. Though after that it goes from an amazing game to just a good one.
Ther7 yeah, would’ve been a surprise! The enemies in the game were very mundane. The dog like ones were a pain but everything else (the regular molded) very easy. Heads were huge
I've been playing it because of gamepass, and I've just finished the marguerite part and her boss fight really let me down. Really enjoyed Jack's fight tho, especially the second one, but her's was just boring; I find the enemies, especially no-humans ones, are really boring to fight
He doesn't actually receive that video of Mia on webcam, he receives an email from her telling him to come get her at Baker Estate in Dulvey, Louisiana.
Just spent all of yesterday playing RE7, man what an absolute gem. For those that haven't played it even if you've never played a Resident Evil game before, highly recommend it!
"I love Joe; Joe is amazing; Joe is the best. ...I wonder if he thinks about ME too...?" LOL. Love that you're going back and doing this review for fun. I really enjoyed the game and DLC.
Playing this in VR was the scariest, most immersive entertainment/media experience I've ever had in my life. No movie, TV show, book is anywhere near as scary. Incredible experience.
Cant believe you didnt mention the VR. It elevates this already amazing experience 10 fold. Definitely the scariest ive ever played. Dont think id say the same if id played it normally.
11:34 "Cleanliness is next to godliness. And you're mother's real close to meeting him right now." is probably one of favorite lines from Jack, in the Daughters DLC.
As a big RE fan, I just kinda skipped over RE 7 because it didn't seem like "a Resident Evil" game. It's half off right now on Steam and I think I'll pick it up. Thanks Shill Up!
I felt the same way you did but after picking it up it’s literally the best resident evil game since RE4, and just as good resident evil 2 remake which is one of my favorite games this last decade. Definitely pick it up you won’t regret
I get scorned at for saying this game is overrated. After the guest house Mia and Jack sequences in the main house, the game plummeted for me. The first 30 mins I thought that Capcom had a serious game on their hands. The creepy prologue when you see Jack walk past as you approach the guest house, the intense sewer gator tape (where you discover the secret fireplace entrance via a controllable tape - fucking genius honestly), the incredibly unsettling back and forth with Mia in the guest house, and the genuinely scary encounter with Jack after dinner. But then you start to realise how little threat everything is outside of the boss fights, and the game just becomes a walking simulator from one scripted set piece to another. The atmosphere is fantastic, the environment is fantastic, the characters are fantastic, the story is fantastic, the sound is fantastic, the boss fights are fantastic, but the gameplay is just so basic. It felt like a movie, not a game. This is why I was never a fan of critically acclaimed Alan Wake. It's so overly cinematic. If you're pretty decent at games, only a fresh new game at madhouse difficulty, without all the op weapons and passives, is worth playing, but you're forced to play through a too easy normal to unlock it, or you have to buy it for like $3. The molded actually become relevant and threatening at madhouse difficulty, and the ship and mine segments that are so fucking boring and easy on normal actually becomes pretty intense. A game that needs its highest difficulty setting to become interesting is not a great game. This is merely a good game.
RE7 is so incredibly underrated and underappreciated at this point. SO many talk about RE2 Remake, but forget that RE7 is what truly brought the series back to it's roots and began the new RE renaissance. The level design, mechanics, inventory system. Everything. This is why I can't wait for the story to pick up in RE8 and in first person. And fleshing out Ethan's character more.
I just wanted to play this game in VR so bad, then I heard they ported it to PC and got excited only to find out you can't play it in VR on PC! WTF Capcom!
Manly O'Beeferton Why buy a PSVR when he could just spend $40 and buy VorpX on PC and play it VR there? I haven’t tested it yet but it’s said to be just as polished as normal VR.
I can't say how happy I am that you put that song in the beggining. People really don't talk about how good the True Detectives season 1 vibe is with this game.
@@Rabaikal agree. I would say RE7 might be the only full AAA title that fully utilized it though. There are so many amazing "experiences" on pc, and modded old games, but built from the ground up for vr.. they are few and far between. I really hope the companies finally embrace the tech. Its here and works. It's not a gimmick that's going away. I understand fully why they haven't because of the install base, but I'm ready. This shit is great.
I don’t know why I’m getting this recommended but I’m sure glad! Re7 is an amazing game and I feel glad it’s “underrated”. The DLC gave amazing replayability, the game feels like a new experience and it’s all in the RE universe if you pay attention to Files! Way better for everyone to have their on view on the game rather than going in the internet saying “first half good, boat part bad, NPC 2987 shall finish critique now!”

“Alien: Isolation” is the only other game to ever give me a legitimate panic attack! Sadly, it’s only playable in VR due to modding, and I’m on the PSVR. I do hope we get a full sequel to it at some point, along with VR support!!
@@MrJagermeister well we did get that mobile game.... 😭😭😭😭
@@MrJagermeister half life Alyx would like a word

Jack Baker following you around the house. That is one of the most intense parts of resident evil ever.
@@reddonut1518 crazy thing as well is jack is so fast on madhouse, that first segment where u have to escape him weaponless was hard lol
@@juniordriver487 it’s fucking scary bro I had no idea he was so fast
@@xoafallen6239 idk how youre scared of a old country man and a little old ass lady. Especially when they curse so damn much that you can't help laughing the entire time.
Same here. RE7 and DMC5 are some of the best sequels I've ever played. They are absolutely crushing it lately
“It essentially asks what if a Titan main played Resident Evil” probably the funniest thing I’ve heard in a while as a titan main
That game was so well written. I still remember many of the bakers dialogues.
And it's the most scary resident evil game by far
RE VII in VR was an insane experience. After playing it that way, I can't play it in flat mode.
Me too. It's just infinitely better in VR. Can't wait for Re8 VR on psvr2 on ps5.
If only they had it in VR on PC...

I went through this in PSVR, it absolutely has to be played this way, the experience, is next level.
xX1Ns3RT C01NXx it literally was the same experience for me
That's the only reason, I haven't played it yet. I'm saving the experience for VR.
Dagger Gaming 100% better in VR
theres a trade off though. Obviously better overall scares/immersion but with badly degraded blurry visuals potentially causing nausea and just the general clunkiness of having a PSVR set up.

It was nowhere near that bad, experience, phenomenal, fact.
Just wanna say that the comedic tone and the editing style that went into this is such a good addition. Looking forward to more videos like this as well as 1 hour videos of ships turning ;)
That in Resident Evil 7 as hard as f*** difficulty wise and achievement wise
When re7 released i was afraid of horror so much that i would hide away if anyone tried to show me any scarry movies or games. So when i got Re7 i actually enjoyed it a lot even tho most of the time i covered my eyes like with Mia first encounter or when margret became a boss. Re7 is just a beautiful well crafted game that even made me love horror
What a timing mate
I just brought the game yesterday and im happy im not the only one playing this masterpiece this late.
My theory is this: RE8 and 9 will be first person. And the remakes of 4, Veronica, etc will all keep the 3rd person. That way everyone wins. I love both perspectives. Can’t wait for RE8! ❤️🦁🙏👍

This is not only a great review, but also a really funny and entertaining video in it's own right! I really like this direction of content.
I've beaten the game like 5 times and I never even knew you could ring the doorbell at the gate
I love videos that come from a genuine passion for a game. Keep these coming!
RE7 is one of my favorite games, glad you enjoyed it.
Finally good to see Re7 getting love. Played it when it first came out, streamed it for a buddy to watch while I played, and I loved every second.
DUDE I have been telling you and the completionist for YEARS! That you need to play this game. I’m glad you finally did. I’ll watch the video soon. RE7 with all dlc is a damn masterpiece.
I know I'm late, but Jirard played it on release with the scary game squad.
@@genjitsunokami lol but no man. He has NOT completed the game. He hadn’t done an episode on it. He said he’s been working on it for years lol. Hopefully before RE8

Jack Baker is the best villain of all time. He actually had me tearing up before the end.

OMG lol you made a kick-ass review of this game. I really got a kick out of the witty remarks and humor you added. Great stuff. New sub here
It took me a few years to finally play RE 7 as well. I loved it and have played through it numerous times now.
Your video made me revisit this game, having just finished the RE 2 & 3 remake. Absolutely love it, might be my favorite in the series.
When i first heard of the game coming out, i was expecting it to fail because it was so different to the previous games and i didn’t expect to like The new character, Ethan.
I was so glad that the game proved me wrong.
So, what prompted you to buy and try this game before you were proven wrong?
@@Skull2dz I saw some positive reviews on the game and i eventually got it on Steam when it was on sale
That's how people were when RE 4 came out lol
RE 7 proved a lot of people wrong and that great
Ethan was pretty shitty though but great game.
I just bought RE 7 and 8 gold bundle for $32. No regrets, and I can’t wait to play as Joe
This gotta be one of my favorite games in the series.
I had the best time going through the puzzles and the house, getting shit scared. It really feels like a RE again.
Great review. I don't play horror games very often, but the story and gameplay, as well as the variety of interesting DLC is really intriguing
“Sir this is a Wendy’s restaurant” I died 😂😂
A Wendy's? Oh I'm sorry I was looking for Burger King
Easily up there with the funniest of your videos ever. It really shows that you had such a good time with both the game and making the video. Had me in absolute stitches with the sound edits and sarcastic asides.
"Really could have done with that information a little earlier, mate." XD
I was JUST biting into a taco when you talking about Bedroom, gosh dangit man.
I was eating noodles, when the character picks up the telescope from the toilet.
I was eating chocolate ice cream, had to stop because of the toilet scene. I would blame Ralph but I also don't know why on earth I thought watching a horror game review while eating was a good idea. 😂
wtf guys? Watching RE7 video while eating?
The staples to the hand works because Ethan was infected with the Mold when he was knocked out, over the course of the night Ethan begins to experience the hallucinations that accompany Eveline's Mold, he was just not infected long enough for Eveline to control since Eveline dies that morning
I don't think we really need an explanation though. This is from a series where a guy can punch boulders and a 150 lb girl can lift a rail gun
@@LeeEverett1 fair, but there was an in universe explanation this time
Hell yeah to that true detective reference. Also, how haven't you played resident evil 7???
You mentioned my 2 biggest takeaways from this. Haha
Many people missed out on Resident Evil 7 because first person and 'Outlast and P.T copy'. Many people didn't like Ethan because he lack of reaction and personality. I personally like him and Mia.
I'm a huge RE fan... Still haven't played 7. Never interested me at all
I didn't play RE7 for the first year it was out because I was waiting for VR support for PC.
Honestly, i feel like this is one Skill Up's best review videos of a game. It was just... really funny and accurate.
Re7 from the beginning until after the battle with Marguerite is my favorite "section" in any Resident Evil game. Though after that it goes from an amazing game to just a good one.
This 100%. The ship part was pretty meh
Most people would agree with this
it went from damn near perfect to mediocre as soon as that last fight with jack finished
I feel exactly the same! I finish the game a few days ago and as a big fan of the franchise I regret not playing this art piece before.
This game is absolutely amazing, it's so well done and creative. I can't wait for RE8.
I really dig this "I can't believe it took me this long" series. Do more, please.
He doesn't actually receive that video of Mia on webcam, he receives an email from her telling him to come get her at Baker Estate in Dulvey, Louisiana.
Yeah it took me 2 years to realize that
Just spent all of yesterday playing RE7, man what an absolute gem. For those that haven't played it even if you've never played a Resident Evil game before, highly recommend it!
Lol RE7 doesnt get enough mention during the remake reviews. Also how good is the first person, so much more freaky.
RE7 in VR got me back into gaming after 7 years. Best gaming experience ever.
I just love your commentary. Your personality is great
Wait I’m actually speechless. This is such an amazing game that when I saw this pop up I thought “there’s no way Ralph didn’t play this”
Cant believe you didnt mention the VR. It elevates this already amazing experience 10 fold. Definitely the scariest ive ever played. Dont think id say the same if id played it normally.
I’d be down for more backlog reviews easily.

ethan didn’t actually ignore mia! in his inventory he has an email from “mia” telling him to come to the baker residence :)
11:34 "Cleanliness is next to godliness. And you're mother's real close to meeting him right now." is probably one of favorite lines from Jack, in the Daughters DLC.
Did anyone else get Evil Dead vibes during the Dueling Chainsaws scene? Man! There’s some absolutely awesome moments in this game
Great video man. Your content always has me chuckling but this one had me laughing all the way through, whilst still being a really good review.
"And since there isn't much else to play right now.."
Half-Life Alyx: "Am I a joke to you?"
1k for the way valve wanted you to play it, yeah no thanks.
SaltySkramz Pfft the Oculus plays it perfectly and you’ll save $600. You have options bro..
RE7 was my personal GotY of 2017. Amazing game.
Now play it using a VR set, I will await the inevitable "I can't believe it took me this long to play Resident Evil 7 in VR" video XD
WTF Capcom!
I honestly think it's worth buying a PSVR headset for. It really does make it so much better, even with the lower resolution.
Manly O'Beeferton Why buy a PSVR when he could just spend $40 and buy VorpX on PC and play it VR there? I haven’t tested it yet but it’s said to be just as polished as normal VR.
Try VorpX, it’s a program that makes non VR games into VR and supposedly RE7 is well done in VR on it. It’s $40.
@@Mr.Honest247 I've seen this before bit wasn't sure if it was legit. They don't have a demo or trial version or anything. :[

Here's to Resident Evil: Village being good too!
I can't say how happy I am that you put that song in the beggining. People really don't talk about how good the True Detectives season 1 vibe is with this game.

The best vr game on the market, especially for consoles.
So sad that they didn't stick the landing.
First 2/3rds are great though
I'd say only on consoles. VR on PC has some really good games that have full body tracking and proper controller support.
