KK’s Priest - ‘Sermons of the Sinner’ - 10 new songs available on CD disc, single disc vinyl with bonus CD album, digital download and via streaming - is a musical statement that KK Downing's heavy metal ride is far from over after his extended hiatus. “The whole concept is the fact that I continue proudly to be who I am and what I am and do what I do,” declares Downing. “It's been nearly 10 years. I'm back making music.” Downing assembled former Judas Priest singer Tim “Ripper” Owens, Hostile guitarist A.J. Mills, Voodoo Six bassist Tony Newton, and DeathRiders/Cage drummer Sean Elg to create Sermons Of The Sinner.
Downing says the word “sinner” in the album title refers to his famous solo in that classic song of the same name, noting that fans are always hoping for new music to sound like the Judas Priest classics. KK’s Priest's new material is most certainly an homage. They have unleashed an album with a modern sound that hearkens back to what fans have always loved about Downing and his music and which still sounds fresh. The high speed album opener “Hellfire Thunderbolt” offers a fictitious take on how metal arrived before the masses were ready for it. Rousing rockers like “Raise Your Fists” and “Wild And Free” revel in the passion and excess that metal fans embrace. The guitar interplay is intense and inspiring, and the band is firing on all cylinders.

Exactly. Many get into music when they're young wanting to be cool with their friends. A lot of them 'grow out of it' when they get older. But when you reach midlife & are the only person you know still listening to it & people look at my music collection & think 'what a nerd', I just laugh to myself cos they really don't get it... As cheesy as it may sound, metal is a way of life, not a trend. The few & the proud live & breathe this shit for life \m/ \m/
I wonder how many people listened to metal in their teens, get into their mid 20s and think they've grown out of it. Later, in their 30s look at a long unplayed Priest, Maiden or whatever CD and think "haha, I used to be into this stuff", and put it on for a laugh. Then they go "Shit! I forgot how good this is!" and the volume goes UP! There's a lot of catching up to do...
I'm waiting for KK's Priest new album. If you are looking for the meaning of heavy metal, you got it in this band.
KK is definitely stepping up on hist writing and soloing. Wish he wouldve did this years ago. You can hear where Judas Priest got their heavy side.
He was held back and frustrated which is why he left.
What are you talking about?? KK had the heavier solos in Priest, Glenn was the technical one while KK was the shredder, watch the later concerts before he left Priest and you will see!

K.K. makes lemonade out of lemons! This is NOT an ex-band member wallowing in obscurity. THIS is a founding member putting HIS stamp on his very own NEW band. The obvious JP nods are in this case TOTALLY VALID and JUST! HE invented much of what JP was and is. Now he's bringinging it to his great new endeavor. Gotta say, that drum line and break are fucking scrumptious. Great song/band!

Agent Steel, Helloween, Iron Maiden, KK's Priest, and Megadeth all releasing an album in the same year. Raven released an album late last year and Saxon is releasing one early next year. What a great time for Classic Metal right now.

Its like hearing 1/2 of what made JP great. Meanwhile the other 1/2 is sitting at home with Parkinsons. :-) and Rob who brought the music to life is celebrating JP 50th...
Well he was once. Ripper is pretty awful live nowadays. These recordings he obviously spent some time in the studio getting it right, something he will never be able to reproduce live (that debut show they did he was straight cringe)
I haven't kept up to date on all things Judas Priest. Why did KK leave the band and go out on his own?
@@NaturalMystic69 JP was going to retire 2011 because the bands performances was declining and there were tentions in the band. Mainly between Glen and KK, with Glen not playing as tight anymore and having more and more control of the band via his gilrfriend the JP manager. All felt the band had run its course 40+ years. After JP announced their farewell tour, KK decided he would not partake in it being not happy with the things he endured in the band. But after a couple of months he reconsidered as he wanted to finish the ride. Instead of engaging with him JP instead announced to the press they would do the farewell tour with a replacement guitar player and make at least another album and that KK had retired. This made KK upset as this wasnt true situation. So he quit the band and wrote an agry letter. to his bandmates. Then Glen turned out to have parkinsons and couldnt play anymore.KK expected this to be an opening for his return considering it beingt the 50th year of their existance. But JP rather tour without their original guitar players and now have their producer filling in for Glen. Meanwhile JP doesnt respond to any question about KK not returning to JP. Total silence. With not able to reclaim his place in JP, which legacy is synonymous with him being in it, KK set out to do his own music...doing exactely what he he always done. Hence the band name. Its no solo record perse..but KK doing where he left of ten years ago.

Great story. My first Priest concert was Screaming for Vengeance with five women. Went out the next day and got another handful of condoms, more concert tickets, saw the Priest 13 more times and the rest is history. (class over)!
I saw the Defenders tour also. They played everything including much of Unleashed.

I'm rocking out to this song so much...its a modern classic for sure. Brings me back to my youth discovering all those great 80's albums by Maiden, Priest, Helloween, Wasp, Queensryche, etc.. Feels fresh without being retro.

Those harmonizing guitar parts have a real Maiden vibe. Really thought this project was going to be embarrassing at first, but it's all been great so far. In your face, cheesy, fun, rousing metal with an incredible band that sounds hungry. And I can hear the bass lines! And they're moving all over the place!

Why would it be embarrassing? All great musicians so you would expect great music. As soon as I heard KK was forming a band with Ripper I knew it was going to be EPIC! And the amount of talent they added to the band just makes it 100 pct better.
@@Davehash It wasn't the musicianship I questioned (although I was curious how KK's chops had held up over the years), but more the song quality and the overall presentation. Best musicians in the world can't save a crap song. Having "Priest" in the name was initially a big red flag, but after hearing how good the songs are, as well as the musicianship, it's clear they've earned it. I was real impressed with "Firepower" when it came out, but this may end up being even better.
Poor Ian has been chained to the root note for 40 years, maybe KK is trying to lure him over.

The four songs that KK's Priest has released and especially this song is a perfect example that K.K. Downing was very important in Judas Priest and in the creation and development of heavy metal music from the beginning.

@@johndiamond4088 Turbo had some great songs. Locked In, Out in the Cold, Reckless...all Priest classics. The rest of it is pretty good. A couple of the songs are a bit silly, but they're not bad lyrics like "we're brothers of the road, and we rock" which is uninspired and just not good. "I'm your turbo lover" is at least memorable. And a hell of a lot catchier.

Wow, what a great song! KK doing what he loves and doing it as good as ever. Tim OWens a great singer and great guy. Never received the credit he deserved for jumping right in to Priest and doing an absolutely amazing job! Puts his heart and soul into singing. Glad to see Tim and KK together in a band together again.
