I think Ripper Owens finally has found the band he belongs in. Yes he did have a stint with Priest and Iced Earth and always seemed to be the Metal Journeyman. Always filling in and never having a good landing spot like Ralph Scheepers finally did with Primal Fear. With KK going solo and adding Ripper, its a perfect match and the metal us fans have been loving for years..

It doesn't haven't to be at all, JP#1. But at the same time, we always compare, we compare JP albums against one another. I like Firepower a lot, but this does me better.

Totally agree, I would have been OK with the lyrics in 76 when I got Sad Wings but now the whole thing looks like a naff 70’s Hammer movie. Musically very sharp, no qualms there but does Ripper have to scream his way through every song. I guess the younger metal fans are loving it and that’s the audience to go for. Great to see KK back up and playing though, must be a blast making videos like that at 71, I’m not far behind and would probably do the same given the chance but not look half as good! Rock it Ken.
I cant agree with the lyric comment in case of Priest. I mean, there is plenty nonsense lyricsc in their career cause by alcohol and drugs Rob used etc. but there is also plenty great and I mean really great lyrics.. In general we can say that lyrics were greater in 70's, then with money and everything it started to be cheesy a bit but latern on it gets better again. But everything has exceptions of course..
@@VegetableMan1400 The Ripper screaming part you mentioned is my biggest problem with both pairs of KK's Priest and Judas Priest albums with him on them. Yes, he has a great voice, and he seems like a likeable guy so I have nothing against him, but unlike Rob there are rarely ANY vocal melodies whatsoever. If you try to hum his vocal lines from the albums it's almost monotone. This is the main reason why Rob is so great, he has actual vocal parts that are part of the arrangement, it's not just screaming all the time.

From yesterday on, I have listened the new album for six times now. Nowadays, after over 40 years of Metal Mayhem, it´s not very common for me, 2-3 spins for the new tops and more later. It feels like the album was made especially just for me. God that I love it. And did I mention, that I can´t get enough of Ripper´s vicious singing. 12/10
Got the box, vinyl, and cassette. This album proves it all. KK is heavy metal and was Judas Priest. What an album and what a great band this is. Everyone is on fire. Ripper’s vocals keep getting better and the twin guitar work on this one is really something. By far the best Priest related release since Painkiller and Jugulator. Leaving to England in 7 days to watch this live!
@@ScreamWright Yes seriously. Priest has been my life since age 6 and I’m in my mid 40s now. I believe Firepower to be an excellent album. An excellent album that took 2 producers and younger member to write the songs for, and that does not feature KK or Glenn on guitars (Glenn only played 4 solos). It’s what some of us call a Rob Halford solo record featuring members of Judas Priest. The Sinner Rides Again was written, produced and performed by KK, a single JP member who represents the sound of JP who also wrote those songs for 40th. Yes, this is subjective. This is true Priest finally. At 71yrs old, KK on his own writes better heavier songs, makes better videos, and has an even better show production that JP as a whole. And again, I’m traveling to England to witness it all.
Firepower could easily be a Rob's solo record, played and produced by Roy Z. But I highly doubt that Tipton had anything to do with it due to his desease😢

I wanted to like Sermons of the Sinner, but for me the songs are just not there. No memorable riffs, no memorable vocal melodies. I'll give the new album a chance, but the songs I've heard from it so far are, again, for me, lackluster. I liked Redeemer of Souls a lot more than these as well. I will probably still go and see them live though.
