Post Office DISMISS Subpostmaster over his Operation of the Horizon system and fail to provide a reason according to evidence shown at the Post Office Inquiry.
Alan Bates, who had at the time been running the Post Office successfully, in spite of the Horizon issues, was given no reason and 3 months notice that his contract with the Post Office was being terminated after a tense exchange of letters with his new retail line manager.

DPS Computing - thank you for your videos. Although not a legal guy, your knowledge of computer systems gives you credit to comment on this horrible scandal with heartfelt and honest credibility. Im a PC guy so any more videos you could make digging into the actual software would be greatly appreciated. - And thank you so much for your breakdowns of the courtroom, i know Art Of Law has been following you closely too.

This whole debacle will cost an absolute fortune and the public will end up paying. The innocent people who were wrongly convicted at such speed now have to wait for compensation. Why are there no prosecutions against the Post Office and government ministers who knew this was wrong and why have they not been prosecuted with the same speed! These people have openly lied and covered up their involvement and nothing had happened to them. This just backs up what has been said before, if you are high enough up in society, the law acts differently to the average working person.

Let's wait and see, shall we? Given that the PO/Horizon Inquiry has put so much evidence in the public domain, I find it hard to believe that there's anywhere for the culprits to hide. Furthermore, given the remarkable thoroughness of the Inquiry, it has unearthed significantly more evidence than a quick and dirty court case could ever have achieved. As to the cost, both the Post Office and Fujitsu will no doubt incur heavy penalties.
As to "high up in society", we're talking about PO staff and Fujitsu techies... hardly Eton & Oxbridge types.

Moral of the story? Listen to the discordant voice. Hear what the "unmanageable" have to say. They may be your most valuable resource.

The commentary is by someone with clearly no appreciation of contract or the law or the real world. The 3 months termination clause was there in the contract, available to both sides of the agreement and one side decided to envoke it. There is nothing wrong with signatories to a contract envoking the exit clause. I am not defending the post office's officials' actions in persecuting postmasters instead of software engineers but there is nothing wrong, immoral or even impolite in this letter.

You’ve completely missed the point. The Post Office resorted to the 3 month contract clause because they knew they had no other way of getting rid of Alan Bates. And to get to that point they had lied and covered up known Horizon faults, and stupidly thought that by getting rid of him it would solve their problem. So they did actually act improperly, because they failed to address the problems he raised. I’m afraid contract law is not quite as simple as you think, which is why PO are now having to offer compensation for dismissing SPMs.
