Keep in mind this guy has interviewed the President of the United States. But Arwen made him lose his composure.
you respect politicians because of their public status, nothing more...
but with a character in a movie its a whole different thing
because they can take you on an emotional journey!
and i bet you can spontaneously name at least 5 people
that you would rather meet than the president!
Meh the presidency is overrated
I don't regard US presidents with much respect.

What other reason would Stephen have to do the show??? 😉
I would.
"and I gotta say, you are elvish because you have not aged a day, since 1998" - best nerd pick up line ever!

I know i'd drop my pant if someone woo me like that.
She really barely aged though. She aged incredibly gracefully.
@@davidthompson184 She's only 41 here, not 85. That's two years out of her 30s.
@@wandasetzer1469 so the process of going from your early 20s to your early 40s isnt called aging? Or….whats the point youre making?
@@HaloBoy11782 The point I'm making is that most people don't really look all that much different from early twenties to early forties. She looks more mature, and that's what most do. You don't haggard and wrinkly and droopy unless you're not well. The difference from early forties to late sixties, though, at least for women, is a good bit. Both in looks and in feeling.
Stephen Colbert has one rule: If you were in any of the Lord of the Rings movies, 2/3 of the interview must be about it. The other 1/3 can be whatever...
That’s the best rule I guess 😂💛🥺
How it should be xD
He is tiresome and overbearing...
@@sanjamatsuri and you are?
@@sanjamatsuri At this point, if you were in an LOTR movie and you go on Colbert and expect to _not_ talk about LOTR, that’s on you.
"But I do know you as Arwen Undomiel the Evenstar in whose likeness Lúthien Tinuviel, the nightingale, had come again." Yass! The real way to introduce the character.
Aragorn thought it was Luthien when he saw her for the first time, which is a reference to the first Man-Elf marriage which Aragorn and Erwen would go on to have
To be fair, Lúthien Tinuviel was not the only one who had come again... and again... and again. LUL
and you know Colbert pull that out from god knows where with no prep whatsoever
An image of Luthien, lover of Beren.
1:20 "Did you know who Arwen was?" [when offered the part]. It wouldn't have meant much of anything and she wouldn't have known much - because what you saw in the movie didn't exist beforehand. Arwen was barely there in the book version ... other than the Appendix ... and was just a minor background character. Maybe one or two speaking lines. That's what she would have seen herself as having been offered, when she got the part, if she had known the book version. Other than what's alluded to in the Appendix, everything else is a creation of the movie, not the book.
her voice is so soft ... shes like an actual elf :O
I was about to write that lol. I thought it was just a voice she did for the movies. Turns out, it's just her actual voice O.o
Now I'm sure her voice is 90% of the reasons she got Arwen's part in the first place lol
Sounds so weird and fake. No idea why speaks like that
To be honest it kinda sound like Michael Jackson though. Even look a bit like MJ too.
She has like the complete opposite vibe of her dad's hyper active R&R voice
"My Sindarin isn't what it should be" man, Stephen is such a king.
I know right. Perfect.
@@SlayerSeraph Clever indeed ! 🙂
...even if we do not know whether it was Quenya, since even if Arwen was not originally described as wearing a sword, if she has brought one from the houses of Rivendell, it could as much have been an heirloom made by the renowned elven blacksmiths of Eregion, or even before their time, using this higher language, even if less spoken in the Third Age...
...but for such a spontaneous answer he did, that would suit the definition of nitpicking...
...so feel free to ignore my comment, which was solely for amusement... 😏
He is an advised amateur !
@@Cinetiste You may have over thought this a little - but it's still great that you did 😂
She straight-up remembered the elvish. Legendary!!
I do too 😂 im not the original actor
@David V yeah that's a good point and a good reminder, thank you.
Still it's different than a movie where you only need to remember
If I remember right she said she had to practice those lines for quiet a while to get them right. The repetition drilled it into her head.
@@JiisTube She remembered it so well because she is - in fact - an elf... in her mortal form. Don't get confused. :)

Liv speaking elvish can actually bring peace to the world
It's Sindarin. There's no "elvish" in Tolkien's world, as certain tribes and peoples of elves have their own languages. Just so you know ;)
Among other things ……
Sindarin, Telerin, Noldorin, etc, etc are some the languages spoken by the elves in Middle Earth. Doesn't that make them all elvish languages? And what about the 'common' tongue represented by english? Do you know if the languages of Man evolved from an elvish language? I vaguely remember something about 'Andunaic' evolving from Sindarin speaking Numenoreans? Indulge a geek

@@alpborakirte801 depending on whether or not you consider the hobbit movies cannon or not, elrond was using hadhafang in the hobbit when he was hunting the orc pack chasing the dwarves. I just recently rewatched it and noticed that he was using it or a sword very similar to it. It also didn't look like it had an inscription on it. One of the lines during the banquet from balin to bilbo he mentioned that swords get names for deeds they've done, so if elrond did have hadhafang in the hobbit, uninscribed, maybe in the few short years between the hobbit and fellowship he could have given the sword to arwen and had the inscription added.

Stephen is so happy! He deserves this, bless his heart. Like a child all over again every time he meets anyone involved with LOTR.
With good reason, IMHO. The energy spent in making both LOTR and The Hobbit RIGHT beyond reason continues to boggle my mind. The detail that is so subtle, so subliminal, just has not been done in cinema before - or since. Tolkien created multiple actual languages, and Peter Jackson's characters faithfully speak them. WETA Workshop created almost magical animatronic heads and creatures to speak them also. Klingon is fun, but not a match.
All in all, the books were fun, but not as inspiring as the cinematic recreation.
(And I am NOT a Tolkien buff. But I AM enamored of the six-film Extended Blu-Ray series, a tour de force of film-making.
David Kempton The movies *made* me into a Tolkien buff lol. I agree, the books are a little...bland, but reading wikis for the lore is really interesting; there's actually a LOT of similarity between Tolkien's world creation mythology and Elder Scrolls'. Personally I'm enamored with the fact they used actual weapon and armorsmiths to make all the stuff
David Kempton That's what you get when a linguist starts writing stories - you get languages that live in a world, where the history of that world influences the languages. Only when that is sufficiently developed do the stories get written, using languages that actually work. Klingon was much more of a "let's put guttural sounds together into words and use English grammar" way of creating a language - its purpose was to sound alien, not to be an actual functional language.
The books are amazing..and so are the books.
David Kempton yes yes. A brilliant author & a brilliant director created such works of art. An awe inspiring collaboration, considering they never met. Cheers 🥃
The way she said "If you want him, come and claim him!" in that scene is still the best.

Gremmo B When making movie adaptations, that could be a blessing or a curse or both. Someone who is a diehard fan could ruin the movie because it was not what they imagined it as. Same goes for someone who doesn’t know the source material. They could not have the heart for the movie and are just in it for the pay check. The nerd side of Stephen never ceases to make my heart burst with joy, i believe Stephen started reading LOTR at college whilst being away for the first time from home for a long period since his father died and LOTR no doubt helped him through a lot of hard times so it makes every bit of sense that he's this knowledgable, and that he transports himself back into that angsty teenager every time he indulges into LOTR in any form.
January Baby he said he stared reading it when his dad and brothers died in middle school or high school
I don’t think it was college
Ok I didn`t know about his father and brothers.... so sad. I do know for a fact however that not "just" everything LOTR but everything Tolkien.
That was also when he was big into DnD, hes just done a DnD 1 hour playthrough with matthew mercer as DM. Its amazing, first time hes played in 30 years, highly recommended watch.
And Lord of the Rings had actual blacksmiths making actual swords for them. And the amount of detail put into everything, even though it's invisible to the camera, is amazing. That must be one nice sword to swing.
I would give my left nut to have one of those swords.
I would give my right nut to have her. @@V3loCiTy123
After the first movie, I saw an exhibition in Toronto of the real props. All of them (clothes, jewelry, weapons, armour, saddles, etc.) were beautiful, solid, works of art. Details that would never be caught on camera were included in everything.
How can anyone NOT love her..
I love the strut when he walks back to his desk.
"It's been in your attic??? You don't play with it all the time!?" hahaha, never grow up Stephen, we all love you for it
Her grace is no act. What a truly beautiful person, both inside and out.
The grace of Undomiel ;)
I love her Voice❤ So soft and soothing😍
Agree that she does not getting older since LoTR. Perfect cast to play Arwen❤❤❤
honestly, wherever lotr is brought up, stephen is immediately transformed into the biggest nerd. like no shame at all. the shift goes from 0 to 100 real quick. it's cute.
For sure, it's genuine
it really is adorable
He’s a child he’s so adorable! “You don’t play with it all the time!?”
She can't help it. She naturally talks like an Elf.
Love them both, so glad she could fulfill Stephen’s LOTR fantasy!
