  • Let's do this!
    Leon Draisaitl and Ethan Bear came up big as the Edmonton Oilers beat the Flames 3-2, dealing Calgary's playoff hopes a crushing blow. Such a shame, eh. Bruce McCurdy and David Staples of the Cult of Hockey dig in. By the Faithful. And for the Faithful.

    We need to find Stalock a start, see what kind of player we have before the deadline. I don’t think Holland can sit on his hands this year, he needs to find a Maroon like trade to make this team better.

    • @markkruda3834

      We got games against Ottawa this week. That would be a perfect first game for Stalock to get his feet wet. Though I doubt Tippett will do it.

    RNH will be the best 3C in the show once he gets his points this season as McDavid's 1LW so he can get paid. Kind of like how the Leafs throw Hyman around the lineup to improve depth. Hopefully Holloway or Benson can be the 1LW we need next season. I think it will more likely be Holloway if he's good enough since [Benson - McDavid - Yams] would be too small on the wings for Tippet. D prospects and F prospects coming in to improve our historically bad depth.... which leaves a big FA signing for a quality goaltender. We'll have our pick this summer. Oilers should be big time contenders next year if Holland plays his cards right!!

    Thank goodness Bruce got to do the game grades. (Calgary is saving him there.) It wasn't a great game by Edmonton, but I did have the feeling throughout (as David did) that the Oilers would win. The Flames just aren't very good this season, and now their season is effectively done. Several good Oilers in this game, but my goodness Puljujarvi and Kassian were bad.

    I really like Chiasson. He gets in around the net and gives the opposition goalie fits. I agree with your assessment on Barrie. I was yelling at the TV when he took that shot at the end of the power play. It was very poor strategic awareness.

    • @richardmyers5732
      @richardmyers5732 3 года назад +1

      This is the problem with Barrie and why I would consider all aspects of his performance this season rather than just his offensive side when it comes time for contract renewal. Elite offensive producing D man but in games like this playoff style game he does get exposed and this is why I think they'll be cautious with him in the offseason in a flat cap era
      And for him being said Elite offensive defensemen to not be able to get his shots through to the net? Not good...

  • @neillemke
    @neillemke 3 года назад

    Bear's play has vastly improved and his ability to make plays is very high. However, he still makes forays behind the opposing team's net that give him little chance of getting back into the play to interfere with an opposition rush (because of his foot speed). I hope this changes before the playoffs begin.

    Bear is not playing with Nurse because Barrie is awful defensively and has been carried by Nurse for quite some time now.. I mean who you going to have out there? Joney with Barrie or Russell with Barrie, those defensive pairing are already proven to stink

  • @richardmyers5732
    @richardmyers5732 3 года назад

    Dave lack of recognition equals cheap contract renewal lol. Maybe 🤷
    I would like that player for around 1 to 1.25 or so for 1 year at a time. Not sure that gets it done though because of all those things he does. The flat cap might get that done. Who knows
    And who do you put with Barrie? Russell, Jones, and Lagesson would all make iffy combos with Barrie in my opinion. If Klefbom isn't back next season then maybe they do need to look at a guy like Ekholm. I don't wanna see another higher cost D man but they might not have a choice

  • @neillemke
    @neillemke 3 года назад

    Barrie's lack of strategic intelligence is a cause for concern. He may have piled up a lot of points during the regular season, but playoffs are a completely different case. His attempted / blocked shot at the end of the power play was the cause of Tkachuk's breakaway goal, and it showed a lack of strategic thinking on Barrie's part.

    Larsson is a good second pairing shut down 20 min a night defender. Please don't conflate Larsson as a top 4 four or Holland will pay him 6 x 7.

    • @barstar888
      @barstar888 3 года назад

      I agree, Larsson is not a top pairing D-man on a good to elite team (not even currently on Oil)...what’s concerning is the falling in love with marginal players who wouldn’t crack elite team lineups. Larsson, Chiasson, Haas, Khaira, Nygard, Shore, Barrie, (previously Russell) are all useful players (Barrie offensively elite) nice guys and so on but those are the players whose contracts are expiring. If they are deemed so important then the team can’t improve because there will be not enough roster spots for anyone new, not to mention they’ll block the youth as we are seeing now with Bouchard. Playing against only North division teams seems to really be clouding their assessment in comparison to the elite teams in the league. If they seriously want to win a cup in the next few years, they’ll have to turn over these marginal players for younger, cheaper, faster in house players who are more suited to compete against the skilled elite teams.
