    This comment deals with the Oiler overall record. Bruce McCurdy mentioned more than once the Oiler 9-0-0 record against the Senators and 16-14-2 against the rest of the division.
    Looking at it another way shows that the Oilers are the real deal.
    They are 2-6-1 against the Maple Leafs and 1-3-1 against the Canadiens, so when you add the Canucks, the Flames, and especially the Jets to the Senators, the Oilers are 22-5-0!!!

    I think nurses game is so polarizing, that in most cases with a d man, if you don’t notice him they are usually doing a good job. But nurse is always involved in the play and a high event player so you def notice him. Yeah he’s got knocks on defence, but I think he could stop slot of goals if he gets stronger on opponents stick in front of the net.

    Agreed David, I'd like to see Benson or McLeod up, but after hearing they only have 4 total moves left (including Taxi squad and the farm, yikes) before the playoffs they may have to wait longer on that. Though you might also want to bring one of these guys up quicker so that if he can settle in and be a factor, he'll have time to prove it.

    I saw the Ottawa goal on a combination of the Yamamoto turnover and Kris Russel not pressing aggressively enough to the shooter especially since everybody else was covered. I wouldn't put that on Haas, in fact I think it's a classic, guy was trying to fill in for the other player's mistake but looks ends up taking the blame.

    • @TheMikeyb86

      I wouldn't blame Yams on that goal. Every coach would tell him to do what he did and pinching on that play will work 9 times out of 10. Should he have had that man? Yes! The play wasn't a horrible gaff, just unfortunate.

    Great play YTD so VAN CGY OTT can NOT catch Oilers...so pts don't matter. WHAT MATTERS seems to be using 15 remaining games to get better vs TOR & MTL... for this Yr & Next. 3-6 vs TOR & 1-4 vs MTL. What do they need to do? Coaching system? Personnel? Develop Bouchard others? D & 2nd line a bit shaky? Who has to be traded to bring in a sniper? Smith Great! Give Ott credit- no McD/Drais but still pretty close.

    OK... we knew we could beat the SENS with one line. Although this one needed help from Shore to get it done. Now could we please separate 97/29 so that we can have a chance against a team with 2 actual scoring lines? Speaking of SHORE, how about him on 97's LEFT SIDE?? Couldn't hurt to try.

  • @kyle1195
    @kyle1195 3 года назад +2

    The question now is how do we want the top 6 set up when nuge is back and we separate Mcdavid and Driasitl what I really want to see is Yamo play with Mcdavid yamo Mcdavid and puli playing on the same line good luck against that Forechecking and then you put nuge on a line with Driasitl and Kassian nuge looks much better with Driasitl a better shot in Driasitl then mcdavid that you need to fly around just to keep up with him and much less of a shooter then Driasitl would really work well with nuge then you maybe play Kassian on the right side it’s not perfect given two right wingers with Mcdavid but nuge doesn’t work well with Mcdavid just isn’t finishing enough this season nuges playmaking and pace match Driasitls game much better maybe his shooting gets stronger if nuge just sat and worked on his shooting I think he should have a better shot just needs to be better then maybe he can still play with Mcdavid

    Tippett is making the same boneheaded mistake as Todd Mcclellan by playing Draisaitl with McDavid. Yes, those two make flashy plays and score big goals, but this only works against bad teams like Ottawa and Calgary. It will not work against tough teams like Montreal or Winnipeg. Plus wasn't Tippett's whole reason for not reuniting the Dynamite line the need for "balance"?!!! How does loading up the first line achieve this? Why not at least try Kahun or Gaetan Haas as 1LW?? That way the Oilers could split up McDavid and Draisaitl and just maybe the team would be deeper. But as the season goes on, the team seems like it is getting less deep and more reliant on its superstar players.

    • @yalksen
      @yalksen 3 года назад +1

    This team is nowhere near ready to go on a deep playoff run. Nowhere near it. ... They have one main scoring line. Their 2nd line is a disaster - even when RNH centres it. (Tippet just refuses to try the Dynamite line [29 as centre] for any fair stretch of games.) They do not have 6 defensemen ready for playoff hockey; they have, at most, 3 -> Nurse, Larson and Russell. And, they continue to play Turris. ... I agree with another poster here that Toronto and Montreal (and I also think Winnipeg) would likely beat them in a playoff series. I don't enjoy typing this, but it is my impression of this team lately. (Maybe they will somehow raise their play ... I would hope for that.) Mike Smith has given them more wins than they deserve.

    Kind of another meh game. Seems like the Oilers have been playing quite a lot of those lately. I'm really just not sure, either we get blown out in the first round of the playoffs or this team is a whole new team come playoff time, because if you really watch this team in the past 10 games, they are BRUTAL at 5v5 vs any of the top 4 teams.
    I'm not sold. I think as it stands Toronto and Montreal would murder the Oilers, they might have a chance against the Jets but I dunno.
    Starting to look like 2 man offensive unit again, and if RNH is our 3rd best forward, going against those teams...
    Good luck, that's all I gotta say because 5v5 he's just nowhere close.

      While we are winning overall, we (the fans) don't feel that we (the team) have control of the game. There is enough skill to dominate a game, but there are way too many nail-biters even against weak teams. There is no way we can beat the elite teams with this type of play. We are always last on the puck, pressured at the blue line, faceoffs suck, and we can't retrieve the puck in the o-zone. Our strength is the skating game. Most of our goals are scored on the fly rather than sustained pressure. I am hoping for a 2006 Roloson type performance from Smith.
