When the Corvette C7 Stingray came out nearly 10 years ago was a shock to the system. A Corvette with improvements all around in the interior, power, handling, and so much more. The Corvette C7 Stingray is the last front engine Corvette ever made, but it is by no means a slouch compared to the Mid Engined C8 Corvette. With the C8 out for a couple years now, I thought it would be interesting to return to the C7 Corvette and see how it holds up! So let's talk about it.

I’ve always thought since day one when the C8 came out, that the C7/8 are basically the same just in different variants. It just depends what you want out of it.

@yomommas5ohhhh I think the wheels could work if it was a solid color car. Black white Grey, hell even red or blue wouldn't look too terrible but that rainbow doesn't go with the gold/bronze at all lol

David this is Paul's dad. Paul has the Saturn you have featured. Since i have the best job in the world being a test driver. I have been able to compare both the C7 and C8s. Both cars are fantastic in their own way. I personally own a C7 and after driving a C8 all day for work...Yeah I know😉, I will get in my own C7 grandsport manual and I'll feel like, O yeah old school! My left hand goes on the steering wheel and now my right hand feels at home on the stick! I love to drive both cars but I'll "stick", pun intended with my C7!😁
I've found that the C7's rev matching is perfect for stop and go traffic on longer commutes. Also one of requirements when I was talking to my wife about buying something was I NEEDED a car that would try to kill me every once in a while so that I feel alive. I just drove mine from Texas to California and back and literally the only things I would change is the sound deadening, the exhaust, and add a low boost procharger. At that point it's perfect for me. Nutty, genuinely terrifyingly fast, and as comfortable as I need it to be for my 90 minute commute. Cannot recommend enough.
picking a 2016 z51 with the 3LT package tomorrow. I've read so many great things about this car I'm surprised (and happy) at how slept on it is.
That NA sounds awesome. Nice Mods. M7 is a bonus. Not a fan of the wrap, don't like the double wing, but it's a matter of taste. Mine is a 2016 Z06, 3LZ, A8, convertible in Daytona Sunrise Orange Metallic. I love it. So loud on throttle. Thanks for the video!

Black 3LT C7 Z51. The Z06 and GS are nice, but the Z51 just has clean lines and tires that allow you to exploit all the fun out of the 49/51 balance without being in some real big danger when it lets go. It's aluminum inside so it may get fatigue over the years, but it should be good with rust and last a lifetime. The suspension pieces and underside is art. Some of them are hollow. Special coating on the CF pieces to protect from UV damage. The adjustable suspension. You can buy an aftermarket controller and make changes with a laptop. The asjustable suspension. Even toe. You can lower the ride height with a wrench and jack. It's the final form of the C5, refined over several years. It's really something to be proud of. Only flaw is the steel torque tube to allow V4 mode. They should have just scrapped that idea. Also, the CD isn't what the C5 was because popup lights and no front grill. They should have made it a little smaller like the C6. All in all, C7>C8 for the streets. C8 for the next generation of car guys/gals and people that just want a real fast car that makes no excuses.
I think it was early in the savage garage days when they had a silver c6 corvette on there. It was making 700hp NA and it was a animal. All motor high revving v8’s are my favorite 👌🏽
A cam in these platforms is pretty much like going forced induction power wise. Which is awesome in so many ways lol. Also its pretty cheap if you can do your own install.
C6 will always be my favorite generation of Corvette. That rawness, was in peak form in the C6. From a base model with an LS2 and later LS3, to the absolute symphony that the LS7 in the Z06 had, to the sheer “this car wants to kill me” factor of the ZR1, every trim level offered performance that couldn’t be beat for the price. The LS3 base models though are still arguably one of the best bargain templates for performance out there, if only just for the relatively inexpensive price to build one to suit whatever you want.
The C7 was good. Definitely a more sophisticated design and all around car. It was the Corvette that in my opinion finally saw GM step into the 21st century. The interior alone was night and day to the C6. For me though, not really a big fan of the Gen V small blocks, though I do understand why GM made the changes they did.
But, for just sheer rawness and analog feeling, along with knowing that the dated driver assist even fully turned on won’t save you if push just a little too far past the limit, the C6 will always be my favorite.

I own C7 so bias driven both the biggest thing for a “drivers car” is that manual transmission keep your faster 0-60. My stock stingray with 7 speed manual is much more Raw and Fun. Puts a smile on my face everyday

Front engine. Have a c5 and it's an amazing car for the money. I also love the long front end look of the c5, c6, and c7.

The C7 is still mid engine. Its just front mid engine vs rear mid engine. Behind the front axel but in front of the driver vs behind the driver but in front of the rear axel. I know most know this but the way it was worded here figured id mention it. Car looks insane lol

i love my C8, C7Z, and C6 its always visceral in each gen they make in unique ways. The previous gens never like the next which is what i love because they somehow still match the performance experience. Was a little scared about the C8 tech issues but after tuning became available its been bullet proof with a cam/head setup so far. Want to eventually procharge it to match the C7Z.
From a c6 owner I love the later versions. I do want a c7 and I'll eventually get one but my only gripe on the c8 is no manual. That's a hard stop for me and even tho I could just get over it , it's my only requirement.
@@biggums3368 the c6 is immortal and still my most favorite to track or drive casually. Its visually ageless and still has all the original muscle car sounds. Yea the C8 auto def makes it less adventurous which is why i usually only drive it for car meets or state to state cruises with the team. So very sparingly lol. You cant keep me out the C6 though lol even when you get the other models the C6 will always be the real drivers car everything is solely for a drivers enjoyment

I think the C8 is in the 'Cool things I don't want' category, but I would like a C7, (Assuming I like being *in* one, of course,) ...I'm sure a more sedate version would do. Certainly more sedate *color.* :) The C8's cool but the C7 seems like a whole lot better to *travel* in, anyway. :)
C7 are way cooler because you can get it with an ELITE transmission the C8 on the other hand only comes in automatic and no the flappy paddles don't count it doesn't have a clutch pedal
C8's are some of the only corvettes I actual want to own. There's just something magical about the looks and feel of a mid-engine car.
But I respect the c7, because it and the c6 are what really sent Corvette down this road of being a truly impressive all around performance car that started to become more exotic.
@@themidnighttavern6784 Yeah, wants may vary. (I'm not one of those people all pissed the C8 is mid-engine: they already made some Vettes more for me if I wanted to be in a Vette. ) Tends to mean I would want more front engine grand tourers than say exotic supercars.
@@OllamhDrab Fair enough my friend. Grand tourers are great in their own right, I've thought about getting a used lc 500 many years from now once they heavily depreciate. Aston Martin's are also great cars, even if they are unreliable, so I've looked at one of those as well, and just ripping the engine out for something more reliable once it had issues.

The way I see it, with the exception of a few cars; mid engine for work, front engine for play. C8 for lethal track weapon, C7 for fun time on track.

I considered just the wicker on my '14 C7 Z51 7MT Conv (1LT) but just for mostly looks it took like 2 - 3 mpg. Now, I Just tootle around but it just didn't seem worth it....two spoilers? Nah, ranks with hair pieces and breast implants, looks good but still earns a slight head tilt.....
My C6 feels like it’s trying to kill me anytime I’m on it. Like a rocket motor strapped to a go-cart. My C8 is on order and I can’t wait to get it!

I guess things have to change time but myself I've always loved the c6. I own a c6z06 with 1100rwhp. At a car show a person wanted to trade me even for his c8 Corvette. I was tempted but said no. It all boils down to personal taste..
Dont even care how it looks, take this over any plaid any day. Rawness of the sound and motor of pure bald eagles is 2nd to none.

The C6 Z06 was an absolute beast! If the C6 interior and build quality would have been more quality then I would definitely have one in my stable. It's sad that the interior in my 30 year old toyota and 23 year old acura has held up way better over time. Even with that said a C6 Z06 still may be on my to buy list
Didn't the Corvette engineers say they had to go mid engine, becuase they reached the limits of front engine car in the C7ZR1.

Not a stupid question at all, its weird lol. Yes. They did this as a way to cut costs, so that Chevy didn't have to produce two different steering wheels for cars with different transmissions. In the manual car, the paddles just turn the auto rev matching feature on or off.

I feel bad for that car being forced to wear that reviling wrap and awful looking incomplete aero package. A wing that big needs skirts and a splitter to balance it out.
The wing on top of the spoiler is a legitimate thing, just look at the Cayman GT4, but in the case of this C7, the wing on top of the Z06 spoiler is a miss and probably detrimental to the aerodynamic performance of either so they should have put the wing on top of the small spoiler that the base C7 came with.
How about rear engine with front wheel drive 😂
