Lore-wise, Slayer should have a stacking buff passive like BH's Job Well Done talent, where he gains attack speed or crit chance for a every X amount of enemies that you kill, elites count as two, specials count as three, Chaos Warriors are five, bosses as twenty. Once you reach a certain threshold, let's say 50 kills or whatever determined threshold, you'll gain a stacking 5%-10% damage buff (or whatever offensive stat chosen in the perk tree) that lasts until the end of the mission. That way, he scales hard the longer the mission goes on and becomes an absolute killing machine similar to how a Slayer in the Warhammer lore becomes an absolute force of nature because they simply kill everything in their path, yet aren't satisfied and continue to seek greater challenges until they die.
The unfortunate trade-off is that the meme of the Slayer in your party ulting into a Chaos Warrior patrol will become standard practice.

Something I always disliked about the dwarf in melee is that it is harder to score headshots with him given his height. Saltzpyre by comparison naturally scores headshots more easily than any other being the tallest. That doesn't sound like much, but it can be an irritant.

Imho, slayer is still relevant. The class main attraction is (as mentioned in the beginning of the video) his "braindead" hella-fun gameplay.
Slayer Deals tons of damage in CQC (dûh!) and combine great damage increase, extra attack speed, and mobility (mainly with an ult that refresh extra fast)
He is also quite decent at clutching thx to his "competitive" ult (crunch!), making a rescue on a friendly easy enough. Having some clutch potential and the ability to make a lot of room for your ranged specialist still makes him viable in a team on High difficulty (up to cata. I don't play moded so I can not argue about it)...).
Now the main drawbacks about slayer are (yes, plurial...) that he needs a lot of help with specials, and altho still viable, he is out shined by other more recent careers... Slayer is also quite difficult to master, as the line to deal maximum damage while still being able to survive is quite slim...
But he has a few competitiv builds (which i won't go into details in this comment) that still make him able to be among (if not) the top damage dealer(s) in the team. And his straight forward simple gameplay is a nice breath of fresh air.
Some of the best slayers I have played with are down right scary (But then again, a great player can make every class looks scary). His talents are indeed "old" and he did not aged as well as, for exemple a Merc who still is very competitive just based on the sheer volume of team support he brings to the table. Yet, he still has a point.
This is ofc just my humble opinion, and everyone is free to disagree with me x)

Slayer can be an insane Mob, Elite and mixed crowd clearer.
I used to run Cog hammer with Great Axe, but much prefer Great Hamer + Great Axe.
Once you get used to a two handed play style.
Talents: 2, 2, 1, 3, 2, 3 (can switch from No Escape to Crunch if you want the extra stagger on Cata)
You can go Boon over Barkskin if you prefer (making him play a tiny bit like Zealot from racking up Temp HP). Power attacks on Great hammer have a HUGE sweep and especially after a ULT Jump you've got that added Attack speed buff.
One swing against a mob will instantly give you 3 stacks on TH and the cooldown boost on your ULT. You also get that immediate 40% Damage Reduction from Grimnir's Focus.
Convocation and Tower of Treachery end fights have become a favourite of mine with Slayer (or Warrior Priest).
Swing to stagger and send enemies flying, then quick Q to axe to deal with any Elites.
Great hammer on it's own will still 2 shot (1 with headshot) a Storm Vermin and 4-5 lights with it will Squash a Chaos Warrior (on Cata).

  • @MrStrides

I agree with everything and I'd also add: make it so slayer's throwing axe reloads faster and make it so whenever you throw axes at the enemies, the more axes they have stuck on them the more damage the slayer does against that enemy, stuff like 5% then 10% then 20%, give him a talent that actually changes his ult or the way trophy hunter works, maybe make it so trophy hunter becomes a +1% power for 2 minutes and it stacks up to 25 and it only triggers when you kill a elite and it resets the timer every time you kill a elite, or something like grail knights quest but instead of of kill x amount of enemies for a potion it's ''kill x amount to get to x tier of the buff'' that makes him tankier and stronger, also he deserves swirling axes, i don't care we already have double axes, we got sword and flaming sword for sienna, slayer deserves a cool exclusive slayer only weapon that is flashy and crazy and super cool to use and axes with chains is as dope as it gets.

and he is really really far away better against monster because blessed blade stagger monster for all the team and is the best burst in the game with shade and bounty hunter with faster cooldown
he is not bad, but its a "second choice", why take slayer when grail knight can tanking with shield, nuke monster and melt absolutely everything in frontline

I think the Slayer is undefeated in two aspects: Horde/Elite Slaying and Mobility.
His Leap and DPS make him into a mobile blender that shreds through armor and flesh alike.
Yes, he doesn't have the burst of the GK, or the utility of WP, but he more than makes up for it by the factors I mentioned above.
His Leap can stagger enemies, and as you demonstrated in the video, it can also be used to move through crowds, which comes in handy to rezzing allies.
Pair it with the talent for greater cooldown rate at high stacks of Trophy Hunter and you become the dawi-equivalent of the Tasmanian Devil.

  • @ElderScrollsAssassin
    @ElderScrollsAssassin Год назад +1

In terms of Slayer's talents needing a rework, I absolutely agree.
However for chaos wastes and overall performance, he is versatile and doesn't fall short when swapping weapons in CW compared to other classes (if you're well versed in the weapons). Slayer always proves to be a reliable wildcard.
When it comes to the one-handed / two-handed talent, it's easy to write him off as inconvenient for chaos wastes. However, it's a slim chance you'll be given the latter talent if you pick for example one-handed. Sure it may appear in shrines and chests as an option but don't need to pick it.
As for ranged, if you're not using throwing axes, you can close in on long-range specials using your ult, and by playing it smart.
A build I normally run will wield two one-handed (which can count as both dual axe/hammers and throwing axes), but I'll take crit talent, giving me an edge in the early missions, and buying the one-handed attack speed talent as I progress, if it appears.
Slayer has no specific main selling point other than being anti-elite which means it's often overlooked with all the new classes and easy trigger careers. Yet the base crowd control: stagger, trash/elite mob mix, mobility, it's all there. And with chaos waste boons on top, it'll handle a monster as well as most careers, not to mention stacked hexed patrols.
CW has a factor of luck to it and how your build will come about as you progress. But the fact that slayer performs well without relying on buying extra career talents, shows it's naturally malleable for the mode, and has vanilla chad results. Every other class will be praying for additional career talents, Slayer doesn't depend on it, and frees up more flexibility for chaos boons.
Not to mention he's great at jumping the invisible walls, cliffs and all-round tricky terrain, to reach downed allies or in some cases even go back for a chest after death.
An original gem that continues to punch 👍🏻

Slayer is designed to be the ultimate in horde control and consistency in damage across the board. Slayer gains 30-40% damage increase after 3-4 attacks, while Grail Knight only gains his damage through kills or heavy attacks and WP gains it through fighting extremely specific enemies or heavy attacking after multiple light attacks. Slayer also has baseline attack speed and also attack speed when ulting, and is able to constantly ult through Adrenaline Surge, meaning he can keep that buff up constantly, netting him an extra 7.5% to 37.5% attack speed, or obviously up to 62.5% with swift slaying, which would be incredibly easy to proc with the other attack speed bonuses. He's also accidentally more tanky than the other classes with Oblivious to Pain, halving most damage, although he does lack other means of protecting himself, like stamina regen or shield weapons.
I would say the hate for Dawi-Drop (increasing damage mid jump from ulting) is only possible if you actually take that talent...Slayer is much better at fighting hordes and patrols, so its much better to actually use the talents that amplify his ability in his own field of expertise instead of the very slight increase in capability against something he is already lacking against. Crunch increases his ability to control a horde by stunning a large area, and No Escape lets him move around a battlefield getting from one fight to the next faster than any other class. My personal preference is Crunch combined with Adrenaline Surge to allow him to Ult, do a bunch of damage to the downed enemies, and hopefully get to ult again before they even get to stand up right.
He does have a weakness against bosses, where only has the "jump damage" level 30 talent to burst damage them, but its not exactly the point of the class anyways, so he shouldn't be faulted for that. Grail Knight is almost solely designed to be a boss fighter, and Warrior Priest debatably does worse against bosses than Slayer does. Slayer's other weakness is that he has no talent or passive that allows him to fight against ranged specials....at which point I have to bring up the elephant in the room...the throwing axes. Everyones most taboo subject...the Throwing Axes....they make a LOT of sense to be balanced as poorly as they are against the Javelins, if they allow Slayer to do what he does normally, while also being capable of fighting at a range. The only reason Throwing Axes get any hate whatsoever, is because they are for some reason allowed to be used by Vet Ranger, and they are just not comparable against "normal" ranged weapons.

    • @karter969

Grail knight has a +25% damage to the first enemy hit passive that stacks multiplicatively with virtue of ideal, which is pretty easy to have 100% uptime on. You left that out, it’s a big reason why GK wins over slayer.
GK will always have a massive edge on elite and boss killing, and can manage hordes pretty much on par with slayer. Slayers strong point is hordes, but every class in the game can do that. So what’s the point of bringing him

Yeah slayer can move faster, but so what? Move speed is mostly irrelevant in V2, there is a reason you don’t see anyone running +move speed on their trinket, any why most careers with a move speed talent don’t run it in meta builds.
Also cog is a fairly weak choice for slayer, it’s a generalist weapon. That’s suboptimal for a career that allows two melee weapons.
Edit: slayer will only move faster than GK if the slayer is running ‘no escape’ or ‘impatience’, both of which aren’t great choices. Otherwise GKs +10% move speed passive means he’s faster most of the time

    • @taurvanath
      @taurvanath 2 года назад

@@karter969 exec sword is too slow after its most recent nerf. Sure you can use it, but it really hinders your ability to respond to threats in an effective way. Movement speed is also paramount for deal with hordes/elites because it's harder for enemies to get a beat on you. Why block or even push when I can just circle strafe a horde while swinging faster than any other class in the game.
In addition Cog hammer offers highest damage vs Swing Speed for slayer, whilst the other weapon can be throwing axes or even pickaxe for increased single target DPS. Slayer's movement speed paired with attack speed make it unique, as it's the only class that can do both at such a high rate. If played right his skill comes back in less than 10 seconds and bolsters this feat even more so.
Edit: Every 25/30 seconds isn't good enough. Slayer can do it on demand which is the whole point. Charged heavies from Cog come out nearly as fast as normal swings from Exec, making it ideal for dealing with patrols as its ability to thrash armored targets, while still keeping higher uptime on staggering the horde. Again, if played right Slayer doesn't need to block or even push block. Movement speed and attack speed means a fully offensive strategy is viable.

Here’s a tip, if u want to kill CWs so fast, use 2h hammer or greataxe, their light attacks have better super armour damage, and come out *much* faster.
You seem to be really in love with the whole movespeed thing. I’ll say it again, it’s effectively useless. Any player worth his salt can get the same effect with dodging. And btw, cog hammer has a huge slow down effect on each light attack, so it kinda undermines you’re whole ‘move speed is king’ thing.
Exe sword is slow yes, but GK can bring a second weapon. It nullifies that problem. There is a reason why almost every meta GK build runs it.
Also you’re probably the first person I’ve ever heard saying GKs ult isn’t up often enough. People have been saying since release that it’s a bit unfair.

      They are slightly different :
2h Hammer main purpose is a horde sweeper. It tosses small enemies around like rag dolls and give a lot of room for team mates. It also generate a lot of THP
2h Axe is best used against armored (counter intuitive there!) by spamming lights attacks (also counter intuitive)
A better combo, if you have the engie dlc is to switch 2h Hammer with the kog hammer. Kog can deal with hordes with more ease that the 2H Hammer, as you have to keep chaining heavies with the 2h hammer, which can be interrupted if you mess up...

I think he deals plenty of damage, with tons of attack speed. His useless perks definitely need to be fixed though. Whether hack and slash and throwing axes are optimal is debatable but I do think they are kind of an unavoidable necessity. You want 2h and 1h weapons? Must take the crit. You want ranged capability (especially important imo because of grail knight and warrior priest being so popular)? Must take the throwing axes.
Imagine if Grail Knight got Sister of the Thorn Javelins. You would have to fucking take that shit as secondary, no way. Having your class be melee only doesn't matter 95% of the time but the 5% it does is game losing scenarios. I also feel like the game is balanced around everyone having a ranged weapon, especially on higher difficulties
Btw, I've been enjoying these videos alot, short and interesting topics. Usually Vermintide gameplay is a bit too long winded and quiet. These are nice.

definitely agree that slayer needs some work (particularly with dependency on adrenaline surge and lack of a good horde clear weapon like mace and sword), but i really dont think hack and slash is as bad as people make it out to be. its great with swift slaying and stacked crit chance for a 20% chance to proc ss. it also gives slayer some benefits to running mixed builds, which are generally the most versatile and maybe even the strongest of his options.
that being said, i think the only real "point" to playing slayer over other melee careers is the far superior mobility and the ability to control hordes really easily with a greathammer, not that those are super compelling strengths. he also maintains decent dps and survivability, whereas gk and wp only really specialize in one of those.

For some buffs (or changes, in the case of the level 20 talents) to slayer's talents, here's a few ideas. I'm gonna try to keep them somewhat to the name of the talent, however.
Trophy Hunter: Killing an elite, special or monster grants a stacking damage buff. Elites and specials grant 1 stack, while monsters grant 2 stacks (Hidden: Lords max out your stacks.; You do not have to kill monsters or lords to get stacks from them, you simply have to be close to them and not dead or downed). Increases damage by 10% stacking 5 times. Stacks last until the end of the mission, or until you die.
Hack and Slash: Attacks have 50% more cleave (basically double Merc Kruber's ability Hitting the Sweet Spot). While not as good for dealing with monsters or chaos warriors than the other two (a decision I made mainly because the other two restrict your unlocks), it can make you incredibly good at crowd control, especially with the 2H hammer or coghammer.
High Tally: Increases maximum stacks of Trophy Hunter by 3 (to a maximum of 8 stacks).
Adrenaline Surge: Each stack of Trophy Hunter reduces damage taken by 7.5%.
Barge: Fully charged attacks launch man-sized enemies flying. Distance launched depends on the charge time of the weapon (for example, 1H axe has won't send enemies any where near as far as the 2H hammer). Bit of a meme option, but at least it'd be fun to send enemies fucking flying, and even get you some environmental kills.
Dawi Drop: Landing on top of or directly next to an enemy with Leap deals massive damage to them. Cooldown of Leap increased by 50%.
Of course, I'm not a professional game designer, so these might be a bit overpowered (for example, Adrenaline surge combined with Grimnir's Focus very well could make Bardin a complete tank, and getting Trophy Hunter stacks on elite kills might cause you to max out too easily), so any ideas for tweaks would be appreciated.

While i can't say he offers much to the team, I find he is so much more fun than both GK and WP in a personal standpoint. I cant exactly say why
Its just hillarious to run into a horde, and he is still perfectly viable on Cata (All careers are, even the Mediocre ones)
Just wish he had some changes to his talents as he has some clear "Best in slot" talents (Adrenaline surge for example) and many of the level 30s feel handicapped over using crunch, You loose out on so much Crowd control, although its hillarious to use Dawi Drop with the pickaxe
Barge serves really 0 purpose, whats the point of it?

I feel like both the *Slayer* and*Engineer* are the two dwarf careers that really need their talents and passives buffed/reworked a little bit, I don’t necessarily think they are underpowered but I do believe they have a lot of unnecessary fat that’s gotta be trimmed. Playing as these two careers is a ton of fun but there isn’t a lot of unique builds you can run on higher difficulties.
The onslaught balance mod does this already and adds a lot more build viability for the two careers, if something like that became official then I’d be a very happy dawiri.

    - slayer's fury
    - a thousand cut
    - enhanced power
    - adrenaline surge
    - oblivious pain (because I almost solo every monster in this game ... except rat ogre)
    - and no escape (because I sometime need to save an elf from assassins or other)
I did not play in the 2 highests difficulties because ... skill issues, whatever the class, so I can't speak for the slayer's viability in this case.

  • @gpddak8667
    @gpddak8667 Год назад

I'd live to see some buffs and changes but I don't really think he is struggling with the winrate too much.
If they ever rework him I think there are just two types of playstyle that seem viable:
Leaning into him working up more and more buffs the longer he fights making him the frontliner you want when there is just too much coming at you at once or being that beast slayer who has downtime but then gets his five seconds of fame where he jumps into a mixed horde or on a boss and dismembers it in seconds.
Either way I think it's worth leaning into trophy hunter and his ult rather than giving him talents for generic fighting.
He could have things like his ultimate getting stronger on consecutive activations and
trophy hunter giving a lot weaker but infinetly stacking buff stacks with more consecutive hits on one side
and things like massive cleave buffs and additional damage on the first enemy hit during ult, infinite cleave and more damage while jumping and trophy hunter as a stronger but finite ability with charges as his talents.
This would give him a very special playstyle with very good strengths but also rather bad weaknesses.
One playstyle could become a battlefield god but struggles in the beginning stages of a fight or when the enemies are skirmishing and he can't keep his buffs up.
The other could defuse incredibly dangerous situation but needs good timing and has little to offer in his downtime.
Maybe there could even be a debuff applied with trophy hunter if it isn't in use to balance things and allow for an even more specialized playstyle.

Slayer is fun but sadly he is outclassed in any category: As you mentioned GK can outdamage him and be still valuable for the team, while WP offers more Team Value and Tankyness over raw damage. So whats the point of playing Slayer anyway if anything he does can be done better. If we would at least get a Damage Buff against Monsters or something. However even then. • @Axehilt
    @Axehilt 2 года назад

    1. Trophy Hunter: yeah increase to 6-10 seconds. While 3-4 hits (to ramp to max) is trivial in most fights, against Monsters (where Slayer shouldn't be bad) Slayer will often have to kite without attacking for several seconds and his effectiveness shouldn't be reduced each time this happens.
    2. All L10 talents are bad, _because the reality of Bardin's weapons is they aren't interesting if you pair 2H with 2H._ So I'd love to see all of these talents reworked to various flavors of DPS that don't force you into uninteresting weapon combinations. (With the exception of 1H/DW + ThrowingAxe, as in that case you legitimately get some good variety.)
    3. Barge's replacement could help with how melee-only teams are worse against Specials. Maybe, _"Leap also reduces damage taken by 50%, and if someone is disabled Leap's cooldown is reset."_ Basically a talent that's pretty good as a defense generally, and really good if someone is disabled.
