Big Shell = Big Chungus, haha that's funny lol. Also MGS2 was right, internet information can control the masses and can alter the course of history, and memes? Memes are just a part of it.
Even better, despite being paired with MGS, the Big Chungus rant is better suited for MGS2 about how people shape views of “a character” and what is “the most famous version of a character”/the character’s most enduring legacy, and wanting to leave a positive legacy was Solidus Snake’s goal, not Liquid Snake’s goal. In fact, the cannibalization of Bugs Bunny to create Big Chungus parallels how Solidus Snake cannibalized the Sons of Liberty in 1776-ish to create his Sons of Liberty. Unlike Solidus’s Sons of Liberty, however, Big Chungus endured for much longer because he was something distinct, unlike Solidus’s rote copying of memes of trying to be a rebel against an overt tyrannical country when The Patriots were more covert and ubiquitous. Therefore, that then ties into the fact that “you pass on the memes you want to see” message that Solid Snake gives Raiden. It all fits so well, and I can’t believe I did analysis on how Big Chungus’s formation interacts with MGS2’s themes.
The writing and voice acting were already 10/10, but the fact that the fade to black and the silence lasted the perfect amount of time before fading back to archival footage with a voice over giving a history lesson really pushed this over the edge. Incredible attention to detail. Excellent work!
I've editied it into one of the isos on archive org. Waiting for a streamer in like 10 years to lose his shit. When this literally plays as if it was in the game.
He's not just speaking nonsense for the sake of comedy. Liquid here is actually touching on a fascinating thing - the idea that thanks to internet meme culture, these almost blink-and-you'll-miss it moments from old media, these super-condensed images or quotes or voicelines - or MEMES - could suddenly reach levels of popularity, could now exist to much a greater extent in the collective concious, it gets you thinking a lot. It's kinda terrifying. But also, it's an opportunity, one that Liquid sees clearly: his main goal in MGS1 was to propagate his own existence over that of Snake's, to reject his destiny as the one with the recessive genes, the ones who would eventually be bred out due to the simple rules of genetics. What better way than to attatch oneself instead to the cultural gene pool instead, to no longer be a recessive gene, but a DOMINANT MEME.
@@boro057 Was thinking the same thing, think about how inefficient meme culture might seem in a MGS2 setting, we have already seen so many memes cycle in and out of favor with different variations. I for one, await the resurrection of Dat Boi.
I mean, Solid Snake isolated himself and only sort of checked up on the news. He would never have known about Big Chungus. Remember, this is the same person who is so out of practice he was shocked at a security camera and let Metal Gear REX be activated because he didn’t think twice.
He is also a direct clone of Big Boss, and as we saw in Snake Eater if the conversation wasn’t related to weapons, tactics, combat, or anything military he was oblivious to it. So yes, Snake would definitely not know anything about Big Chungus
I suppose Snake wasn't all that internet savvy. So for the longest time, he just figured Big Chungus was some weird art piece and never made the Looney Tunes connection till Liquid revealed it to him.
It also helps that for all Liquid harped about genes, he wanted to make any difference at all with military might by lashing out at the world. Solving problems with violence is unironically a meme in the Metal Gear Solid universe, a deleterious idea that for some reason is the default because of societal conditioning and damaged psyches. This would become meta commentary for the future game MGS2.
If you edited this in to an MGS long play, I wonder how long it would take the viewer to notice something was wrong. The cadence, the vocabulary, the delivery, the audio production... incredible.
I'm citing this in a class discussion and I'll paraphrase what I wrote here: This video basically explains the term appropriation in the sense of "borrowing" cultural elements for one's own use. It talks about how sometimes the appropriated version sometimes gains more popularity than the original it's copying. But the video itself is also an example of appropriation, as it's taking a scene from the game Metal Gear Solid and re-contextualizing it to parody the game's philosophical cutscenes. Being an over 20-year-old game, many watching the video (myself included) probably haven't played the original game, and have only experienced the game through the memes, videos, and parodys that have appropriated it. So in that sense, it's essentially a description of itself.
I love the fact that: a. This is perfectly produced b. This sounds like the actual argument of a Kojima scene c. This is actually a legit analysis of meme culture and the way our modern world works.
And its played straight. Thats what adds to the humor of it and a detail that shouldn't easily be left out. It really sounds like it could be in the game. Course I feel like at some point snakes going to ask "can you...wait abit? I think you hit my head really hard and I maybe not understanding what your trying to tell me." (Like Snake is currently hearing gene talk in the context of memes.)
I mean, it’s not really accurate though. It’s predicated on the idea that more people know Big Chungus than know Bugs Bunny, which is obviously not right.
*Later in Revengence* Monsoon: we are all pawns controlled by something greater.. MEMES the DNA of the Soul. Raiden: DAMN IT! It's Big Chungus all over again!
The people who did the voicing here could legit pass as the originals and its astonishing. The delivery, the cadence and line variation to emphasis some points as they would of. All of it is damn near perfect. Absolutely 10/10
Liquid won in the end, thanks to his insane ramblings we will now forever remember him, effectively making him outlive his defective genes. And this video perfectly encapsulates that idea.
Don't you remember? It's revealed late in game that Liquid is actually the superior one after all. Snake just rose above him by skill and perseverence.
@@harizotoh7 I don't think that's the case. Snake defeated liquid 3 times and each time liquid came back. If it weren't for the foxdie, snake would've died
I thought it was supposed to be a YTP montage or something at first. Then I wondered from where those obviously official parts of dialogues came from. This is SO WELL made.
The conclusion should have been something like “the evolution of memes keeps memes alive and that is why I propagate the Sons of Liberty forward” for Solidus, “the evolution of memes is the nonsense people witness every day” for the AI colonel, or “it is often the most absurd and most violent stuff that gets passed on” with Monsoon
@Urn Turn He said he was positive it was Clarke's voice, then stated "impression" because he later realized it was not. I was just confirming the fact and stating that the doubt was more than understandable since the 2 voices are very similar. I knew that he knew. Plus since we're talking about a fictional character, the word impression could also refer to that character's voice, not the impression of the voice actor himself. So shut the fuck up you moron.

I haven't laughed this much in a long time. Supremely well made. Excellent work man!
P-p-p-puush kiiiick
Isn't it? It's just perfect. It aways awes me to watch this.
It's freaking deep!
If I’d heard this in an actual MGS game, I wouldn't have batted an eye.
Of course, the cutscenes are 3 hours long.
You're probably asleep by the time the Big Chungus scene plays.
Take out big chungus and this is literally MGR
I've editied it into one of the isos on archive org. Waiting for a streamer in like 10 years to lose his shit. When this literally plays as if it was in the game.
@@AZJayjohn Holy- I need this iso.

The “recessive memes” at the end punched me in the gut and stole my wallet
Watch yourself on that edge, boy
Liquid needs to live as a meme of his own, not ride off the legacy of his recessive Kazuhira-related memes from MGS5.
@Big Crunch the edge of metal gear rex
@Big Crunch lol he read "stole my wallet" and just assumed
What better way than to attatch oneself instead to the cultural gene pool instead, to no longer be a recessive gene, but a DOMINANT MEME.
nice
The themes in MGS2 tie into that idea too with the idea of information overload, legacy, what’s real, etc. This video is Kojima level quality.
@@boro057 Was thinking the same thing, think about how inefficient meme culture might seem in a MGS2 setting, we have already seen so many memes cycle in and out of favor with different variations. I for one, await the resurrection of Dat Boi.
MGS actually also stands for meme gene scene
Let me guess...you are or were in a college and wrote a lot of essays explaining things...
I love how oblivious Solid Snake is to the fact that Big Chungus is Bugs bunny.
Much like he was oblivious about Solidus being his brother lol
I'm sure there's many who don't know big chungus is bugs bunny
This legitimately works as foreshadowing for MGS 2's themes lmao. Incredible stuff
It boggles the mind, the number of tiny details you absolutely nailed. Brilliant.
If you edited this in to an MGS long play, I wonder how long it would take the viewer to notice something was wrong. The cadence, the vocabulary, the delivery, the audio production... incredible.

The transition from "gameplay" to the Looney Tunes footage was so fucking perfect I did a double take
the tone of this is so absolutely perfect it has me floored
I'm citing this in a class discussion and I'll paraphrase what I wrote here:
This video basically explains the term appropriation in the sense of "borrowing" cultural elements for one's own use.
Oh my god.
Holy shit, that is crazy… I hope it got a good grade, you gotta post the essay here

"I will not let myself be cursed by my recessive memes" is a brilliant line that is both completely in character and hilarious af
I love the fact that:
a. This is perfectly produced
b. This sounds like the actual argument of a Kojima scene
c. This is actually a legit analysis of meme culture and the way our modern world works.
Don’t forget:
d. it accurately portrays Liquid’s strive to surpass his alleged recessive genes.
Memes control the modern world, and they will continue to control until they are overrun by a new form of comedy...
And the cycle continues...
I mean, it’s not really accurate though. It’s predicated on the idea that more people know Big Chungus than know Bugs Bunny, which is obviously not right.

The best part is that Liquid going on a rant about memes actually makes sense in the context of the franchise
Although it should have been given to either Solidus, Monsoon, or the AI colonel.

He's not. But the guy sounds close enough.

Aside from referencing Chuck Jones instead of Bob Clampett (who directed Big Chungus' short), this is sheer, pure, unaltered art.
In fairness, getting the facts wrong just makes this more accurate to the original scene with its wonky genetics
It fits since it shows that big chungus is more remembered then the man who created him showing how big memes can become
