Back in the day, tge Empire thing was having pompous, absolutely impractical armor, with absurd helmets (unless you were a white wolf… in which case you had highly impractical facial hair). In that light, I really don’t see the problem with this sculpt.
I Also see nothing wrong with that new mini but i have to argue with you about one thing: There was nothing impractical about Empire armor. Except for some bigger helmet decorations its pretty much as real as armor can be and actual real armorers can make it pretty much 1 to 1 how it looks and it will work perfectly well, embellisments and all. Kinda obvious since they based the whole faction on bunch of historical mniatures GW had on hand when inventing WFB...
I think the new Empire mini is one of those minis that needs to be seen in-person to properly judge 😅 Because from the picture, his armour looks at least 2-3 sizes too big for him.

It's an okay mini. It's the kind of mini I wouldn't buy on its own, but if it was in some combo box, I wouldn't be against it. The proportions are either too big or too small. I wish the pauldrons weren't so big, same with the eagle on his helmet (in the art it is well proportioned). Both are fine, just too big. Contrasting that, his legs seem small (the chin guards and kneeguards SEEM too small), likely due to the long mail skirt. Same with his arms. You see his gloves and I get it he's wearing puffy clothing. But, it looks makes it seem like he has small arms. Which he doesn't, but his whole get-up seems to be ill fitting. Like a kid wearing his dads armour. (Despite the breastplate and shield thing being well proportioned.
I'd price them out first! But they'd probably be a little smaller given I think they're proper scaled 28mm... Google it! I'm sure there's plenty of comparison photos out there. And yes of course that would work
Don't think there's ever been a time when it's been necessary to buy GW models to run one of the human factions. Possibly one of the reasons why Empire aren't a dominant faction in terms of popularity as other things have always been pushed just as much or more (a good thing really).
I’m glad people like the new empire miniature. I’m not a fan - he kind of looks like a Lego. Sometimes the forge world miniatures look better in person though so who knows? Looking forward to the empire deep doive!
As to the new Empire hero's sculpt, I actually think the helmet's too much. Like, way too much. If the helmet wasn't so outrageously big, I think it'd have been much better. Pauldron's are a bit too big too, but I can live with that.
I quite like the new Empire model because of his face and because he's quite comical. Don't think he fits with the other stuff available for the Old World though and he looks like he's pretty obviously too big apart from anything else. I'd put him in a bracket with the Ungrim model which is also good in isolation, but hasn't got anything much to do with the rest of the range. Given that there's no prospect of new model ranges any time soon it puts people buying GW armies for TOW in a bit of a strange place unless they like the mix and match thing. When you two refer to 'Oldhammer style' do you just mean anything from when WFB existed? I mean that's fair enough if so, I just hadn't really thought of 8th Edition as Oldhammer and as it's often used to mean 80s into early 90s stuff it jars a bit given that the 3D printers' stuff has nothing at all to do with any of that (which isn't to say that some of it isn't good on its own terms).
Absolutely not a fan of that new empire mini. My issue is that the official artwork they commissioned for this character (which is better in every way btw) has him with normal proportions. A much smaller helm and pauldron. Presumably they used this while designing the mini, so i'm confused as to how they ended up with that result.
I'd argue that we have seen some poorly executed armies of infamy. I'd nominate both the TK ones and Heralds of Darkness. The dwarf and green skin ones are the gold standard imo that indicates the kind of fun that can be had with this system. But the hit rate is not 100%.
Some are definitely more imaginative than others! I hope we keep seeing more after the army book cycle, perhaps with a bit more of an adventurous design!
Honestly regarding the megalines, I think they could balance it by making a model only able to provide a supporting attack if its within its own movement value from the unit it is attacking (or twice, poor dwarfs altought they are the worst offenders)
@@skeith1543 In itself that would probably be desirable, but you'd have to rewrite loads of the rest of the rulebook and change a lot of army lists if you want to see any infantry at all. They've done updates that are more like the warhammer style that are strictly worse, I don't even know if you can get the older version anymore but the STLs I've got are great 👀
I'm really not a fan of the model. Obviously Warhammer is fantasy and lots of the proportions are off, but the aesthetic of the empire (at least when you ignore the steam tanks and griffons lol) is that they're fairly realistic renaissance Germany, with reasonable armour. This just defies logic. Yes there's orcs and wizards and stuff, but fundamental principles still exist. For example if you have a helmet that big, your neck is going to snap. I like the face though
I'm not a fan of this new empire general. The proportions on him are very "off". My biggest issue is the size of the pauldrons; they're HUGE!! The helmet as big an issue for me. I see people here commenting that Empire has always had over-the-top armor and ornamentation and that this tracks with those design elements, but I disagree. Looking at a lot of classic empire sculpts you'll see most of them have arms and armor which is more proportionate that this guy. Those minis were also sculpted at a time when models were sculpted by hand and certain elements needed to be bigger due to limitations in the process, which are no longer a thing.
if you have to hype up a specific way of playing a faction to make it competitive, then something might be wrong with the points cost of this faction...
I am a bit of an armor nerd, and do a bunch of fighting in armor. I really don't like the aesthetics of the new empire character. His armor does not look good at all! It's all world of warcraft and very much not functional armor at all. I miss the older sculpts that even if they were stylised, they didn't throw the historical influence out of the window completely. Even the late 8th edition forgeworld stuff was very much inspired by historical armor. The bevor is just wrong, and horribly shaped, the pauldronss are comically oversized (even though milanese armor did tend to have massive pauldrons with heraldic devices) and the lion overlapping the lower articulation on the pauldron makes me cry. the breastplate is horiffically shaped, and way too long, would massively restrict movement as it should sit on the waist and allow for movement from the waist. you then cover the lower abdoman with maille or faulds and a plackart. the tassets are in completely the wrong place, protecting the hips, rather than covering the joint between the bottom of the faulds and the upper thighs, and the grieves and knee armor just is awful and would not move correctly in real life. The older sculpts really nicely ran the line between stylised over the top gothic ornamentation and functionality, this just looks like a world of warcraft cosplayer.
Not a fan of the new Empire model, proprtions just look off, comically so, and as val said Warcraft looking. Think they missed the mark with this one. A shame as we dont have many new Old World models being released. Hopefully when they finally get round to redoing rank and file units they get it right. The new stuff for Bretonnia was great, but this model I will give a miss.
The model really sucks imo, it's not heroic proportions, it's all over the place, the armour is absolutely ridiculous, and then they tease us with what could've been with the art piece of the character, if these last 3 named characters are going to be the quality of sculpts from now on they can feel free to stop

Those minis were also sculpted at a time when models were sculpted by hand and certain elements needed to be bigger due to limitations in the process, which are no longer a thing.
if you have to hype up a specific way of playing a faction to make it competitive, then something might be wrong with the points cost of this faction...
Surely the pronunciation is more like "Ler-ven-hack-er"?
hate that the new empire general doesnt have a cod piece.
And Robs pronouncaction of General Hans von Löwenhacke is jolly but cruel 😅
The puffy shirt he’s wearing is due to a promise to his friend’s girlfriend.
I'm worried about these new Empire releases. They're leaning too into big, chunky AoS designs, and I personally think they suck.
lol Löwenkacke
Wow, hate that sculpt, looks like a child in ork armour.
The model really sucks imo, it's not heroic proportions, it's all over the place, the armour is absolutely ridiculous, and then they tease us with what could've been with the art piece of the character, if these last 3 named characters are going to be the quality of sculpts from now on they can feel free to stop
Cool mini. Would have been cooler if freed from the square base and the need to fit in a rank
If you don't like Old World, then get out.
Might I recommend a game called Age of Sigmar which isn't played on square bases
Woah WOAH WOAH. stay bassed everyone... this is a test from the mighty Bass on high
Hans Löwenhacke (

Ö sounds like the french e of le)
looks sick!
Imagine how they could blow our minds if the mercenary list for Nuln included Kislev :D
Rob, at some point I‘ll kidnap my brother, drag him from Germany, across france to Nottingham to play at one of your events so you guys can have an Warhammer-Accurate match against ZE EpmIrE!
And while playing learn some German swear words when the dice start their betrayal once again.
