Infantry as a whole needs a hard buff, it's not just state troops. Which is really sad because core infantry is what defines Warhammer Fantasy in my opinion. Knights and big fancy monsters are nice in between, but it's the infantry battle line that really makes an army impressive to look at and it's what got me into playing Warhammer in the first place.
I agree with you full heardtly. If Infantry could be Step-Up to replace casualties so that all Models in the Front Rank could fight would be a gratis deal
Quote Mordian Glory "I give this a solid 7/10 the Steam Tank is 5 of those points." think more like "I give this a solid 7/10 the Steam Tank is 8 of those points."
I feel the Battalion Box would have been better if, instead of a Steam Tank, you get 8 knights and 1 cannon. It would have been more balanced, worth more points and you can get two boxes of this and have that be the center of most Empire forces.
I would have been happier if instead of a steam tank they gave us some cav. However in fairness I play other rule sets where state troops infantry isn't all that bad. The milita kit is what I used to use for PCs in TTRPG. It is 100% best empire kit ever made
I think there’s a possibility to get the list up to about 1,500 but it’s a stretch and requires two of the state troops getting promoted to general and captain… the troops can be run as veterans and then kit them all out… however there is no way to cast magic in the box and that’s where the chaos one wins… having a sorcerer on a chariot beats this boxset every time sadly
@ I’m going with tiger jungle camo pants and dark Prussian blue armor for my Kasrkins a blend of NATO tri-color camo/ German Ambush Camo for armor, and I picked up some slouch hat heads for my Catachan mechanized infantry.
When I saw Games Workshop was getting ready to launch the Empire of Man for the Old World, I couldn’t contain my excitement. I was anticipating their release even more than the Dwarves.
For the guys without shoes I put a bit of greenstuff on and paint them as shoes. Another complaint about the state troops, from a painting perspective, is all the greebles they have. Bones, hour glasses, papers, they should have been on the sprue. It can be exhausting painting all those tiny details on every single model, but then again I'm doing it to myself as I'm trying to paint higher than a tabletop standard.
Mordian's end of video statement of which models were cool reminded me of the movie "Half Baked". " F#%& you, F#%& you, F#%&you...your cool...F#%& you I'm out yo." haha classic.
As someone who's painted more than their fill of state troopers the Battalion box doesn't really excite me. all of the weird special models like war wagon, ogre, Teutogen Guard etc. alongside the militia kit, however, interest me greatly. I'll probably buy and paint them unit by unit though.
What you don't know is that when you said-- "I have no idea what you are gonna do with 290 transfers" it was actually the exact conversation some exec at GW had with another, except it was like: "jesus, they just kept making them? I have no idea what we are gonna do with 290,000 transfers."
I think the steam thank is a great first buy in the box. As a bretonnia player would've like if it had 2 cannon instead and it would've worked for an exiles list
The biggest problem with the box is how ugly are the 7th ed state troops. It's not even a problem of them being too old, they were ugly as sin from the day they were released.
Makes sense for them not to have shoes plenty of soldiers in real life went to battle without shoes just take a look at the confederate army before gettysburg.
For militia or free company maybe but the state troops are supposed to be professionals. Not a big deal.. sand the toes a bit and just paint them as boots, easy.
its not a good expansion for current players but its nearly perfect for new players to get into empire or the hobby/game in general. just a shame theres no characters in there?
Why the shade towards spearmen? Is that just esthetic/lore bias? Because then I agree. Halberds✔️. I only ask because I have 50 swordsmen that need to be rebuilt as something less useless haha
GW is not going to focus on Empire infantry. There are far too many superior and cheaper historical minis available, they've allready lost that competition. So they create the rules to make you buy steamtanks and demigriffs and other trademarked miniatures. The community should just make their own rules for infantry heavy armies.
Empire starter is trash. Should be some missile troops, some foot troops, a unit of knights and a war machine or two. Possibly a hero/ wizard. This set is trash.
Old world Empire: old ugly models Age of sigma cities: new ugly models Wh40k : you either get basicbitch cadians with baseball helmets or krieg... Damn. And here I was looking for a way to start a human\guar army in the new year, but none of 3 looks cool for me. Guess 3dpriter will go brrr then.
Honestly, TOW is just generating more badwill with me at this juncture, I've started to call it anti-warhammer The core rules are so bad it is tragic and the new empire character doesn't even look like a warhammer figure anymore, more like something out of WoW. TOW sucks, 8th ed is king!

would have preferred only 10 state missile troops and a unit of 5 knights
I mean you really only NEED 5 knights to counter charge for a good gunline list shame there isnt a cannon or something.
16:20 those are warrior priest of ulric
I really would have wished that GW would re-release the old plastic kits for the State Troops from the 5th/6th Edition.
8:40 If anything you've gotta make the no shoes chad your empire captain, because he'll stand out

So exciting - seeing them all in one place really reminds you how distinctive and awesome the Empire is as a faction.
Free company and archers are the most exciting! Have some. Want more.
Agree regarding the Empire Militia kit (originally the Mordheim Human Mercenaries) is the best plastic kit GW has ever done.
Me: Just starting my first Astra Militarum army 1080 points in... Warhammer: Here is the Empire of Man...
What"s your color scheme?

It would be better if Infantry were not pointless
Free company, Mordheim incoming.
The white wolf ulrik Priests ft and mount and Teutoguard are amazing
A unit of knights instead would be a massively better start. Might be fun to convert the guys to great swords or flagellants or something
Yes! Free Militia is back! Time to dust off my old Mordheim book again.
Add Knights to the battalion box and it’s perfect
PSA for any new Empire players: STank, Knightsx8, Archersx10, Artillery (2xCannons minimum + Helblaster), 2 Engineers, Lvl 4 wizard
Must. Build. Empire. Army!!!
I'll be buying at least three of those state militia boxes!
Empire is always getting shafted.
The biggest problem with the army box, is you can't buy 2 efficiently, because you can't afford 2 stanks in 2k pts games.
A new Knight set would be great. With a sprue of bits to make different Knightly Orders.
Mordian is GW not releasing Battle Wizard models?
They are already available as part of the Cities of Sigmar range, though you'd need to replace the round bases.
I may get two batallion boxes and sell the extra steam tank as you can only have one.
Is the free company not just multiples of the old mordheim (best game gw ever made imo) kit?
I think the steam thank is a great first buy in the box. As a bretonnia player would've like if it had 2 cannon instead and it would've worked for an exiles list

Yeah they suck ass. The ol' starter set monopose ones are nicer, I'm keeping an eye on ebay for more cheap.
I’m building swordsmen and you can’t stop me (I’m just a chill lore guy)
Greatswords would‘ve been nice
Makes sense for them not to have shoes plenty of soldiers in real life went to battle without shoes just take a look at the confederate army before gettysburg.

Bow the question is do I do the Empire or do I do Warriors of Chaos? There’s still a battalion of chaos box at my LGS
I didn't even know they were limited.
The chaos box is a wayyy better starter imo.
is knights box same box for normal knights and
also inner circle knights knights
its not a good expansion for current players but its nearly perfect for new players to get into empire or the hobby/game in general. just a shame theres no characters in there?
Im building spears and swords
No idea why he worried about it .. neither will get to actually fight back anyway lmao
Chewtons... ⚠ Chewtons... ⚠ Chewtons...⚠
Would rather have had some infantry, a cannon and some pistoliers or cavalry.
I would have preferred a cannon or arty piece over the steam tank
Eh the stank is worth more $ and points.. if we're lucky the artillery will come in 2 packs again.
You mistook the priests of Ulric for grand masters
I'm going to be so poor in 2025
Why the shade towards spearmen? Is that just esthetic/lore bias? Because then I agree. Halberds✔️. I only ask because I have 50 swordsmen that need to be rebuilt as something less useless haha

T chu tonic knights
What in the world is a halberb?
Was meant to be Halberds but I had a bad typo on my end 😅 Please LAMBAST THE EDITOR
YAAAY OLD ASS MODELS FOR THE NEW PRICE!!! GET HYPED! ---- NOT------
Bit disturbing intro what eva gets you hard... No Cavalry in box :(. Im a greenhorder and the box set suck
No where near as good as the WoC box.
Look-see the great effort-work it cost them. Just to bitter-vainly compensate for their lack of superior Verminous form 🐀💥🔔💥🐀
The chaos box battalion was very good? With 32 of the worst unit in its roster? Okay
It is based on points per dollar value. None of the battalion boxes are "meta" anyway.
Empire starter is trash. Should be some missile troops, some foot troops, a unit of knights and a war machine or two. Possibly a hero/ wizard.

It's a US army helmet you sped lmao

TOW sucks, 8th ed is king!
If you say so be happy with 8th Edition WHF
Melee Infantry being the most common but worst unit type in the game ruins a lot of composition possibilities.
Stupid to have the steam tank there. Should have been a cannon and mortar..
