Throwback to El Salvador’s first time hosting Miss Universe TPN#58

  • Just a handful of countries have hosted the Miss Universe pageant more than once, and the small Central American nation of El Salvador will join that exclusive group later this year.
    While it’s several months to go until the 72nd Miss Universe, let’s take a trip down memory lane to the 24th edition in 1975, when El Salvador became the epicentre of the pageant world.
    We’ll take a nostalgic look at how the pageant itself has changed, as has the world around us, in so many ways.

    I’m a big fan of the pageants in the 1970s, which is when I began watching. A wide variety of locales hosted, beautiful culturally theme stages, and a wonderful swimsuit presentation of all the contestants in locations throughout the host area. I hope the new owners bring that back.

    Hello, watching some old MU contests, I noticed that the format for naming the semi-finalists was more exciting and dynamic. The latest contests, however, name 5 candidates and with each one a brief synopsis is made and they are given a mini interview. Then commercial courts and then another 5 more are named and so on until reaching the 15 or 16 chosen ones. This takes away the emotion factor that the old contests had. In fact, I miss the contests of the Trump era and those that preceded them.

    • @PageantNerd
      @PageantNerd  9 месяцев назад +3

      Completely agree! Stretching the finals night show to 3 hours wasn’t the best idea IMO. I also liked the suspenseful moments when the announcements were made more succinctly.

    I was 9 years old then and we lived about 3 blocks from the Hotel Camino Real where the misses were staying. My dad took me to see the misses when they were leaving the hotel to the airport and he put me on his shoulders right next to the bus in which they were leaving and there she was, the beautiful miss Finland herself a couple of meters away. That was beauty mixed with simplicity and modesty.

    I was happy that Bukele made that announcement. I believe that El Salvador has pretty much cleaned up its act after so many years of having it bad. However, finding out from some Salvadorans that the situation isn't that rosy makes me concerned. Anyhow, I just learned to enjoy MU for what it is. I did object to it being in Russia as much as I objected to it being held here in the midst of a tumultuous social climate.

    • @Adolfin80
      @Adolfin80 Год назад

      Those Salvadorans that still talk bad about El Salvador are the ones that were part directly or indirectly of the corrupted political and social system that governed the country for more than 30 years. Their job now is continue to making false statements about insecurity and bad administration of the actual government. El Salvador is not the same as it used to be, now is one of the safest countries in America just behind of Canada.

    Hey TPN, greetings! It's been a long time since I posted a comment on one of your really enjoyable videos (this was no exception). It's was so genius to make one about the future host nation. Bravo !!! This edition was celebrated, when the pageant was at the peak of most important international events (considered along with the Olympic Games), since it did a lot for promotion for the host nation and giving a lot of a pride to its people. This edition along with 1976,1977,1978, 1979, 1982 ,1986, 1987 and 1988 are the depiction of the Miss Universe pageant essence and the way it should be. Yes I know, renew or die, but I really miss the dynamic these editions had. I had the fortune to watch it when I was a kid (yes, I'm old he, he) but I just remember some parts of it. From all the contestants, I was mesmerized by Miss USA , I liked Miss Haiti though. Back then I wasn't rooting for personality or other traits than the contestant's looks and to be honest I didn't know too much about world's geography. Funny fact that you mention about Curacao and Haiti of almost becoming the first nations to win MU with a black representative, both from the Caribbean. Even funnier, the first black MU was from a Caribbean country/island as well. Well, once again I want to tell you that you did a superb job on this video. Keep up with it...Looking forward your next video !!! Saludos

Like Venuz when asked what is her biggest mistake... and she can't think of one, so it's actually not her fault when answering she didn't have a major major mistake! ( In the Philippines it's usual to say a word twice for emphasis.. if that's a mistake abroad saying a word twice, it's more like culture... and there is no cultural mistake whatsoever, just cultural differences.

      Guadeloupe, Martinique, and French Guiana, I don't think are ever happening since these three are now considered regions (think, states) of France. The way the girls from these three (as well as Tahiti and New Caledonia) regions can compete at MU is, of course, winning Miss France and wearing the France sash... something that has happened many times. Clémence Botino (MU France 2021) is from Guadeloupe. Alicia Ayles (MU France 2017) is from French Guiana. Floriane Bascou (MU France 2022) is from Martinique. The current winner of Miss France, Indira Ampiot, is also from Guadeloupe (although, I think they're sending the Miss France 2022 winner this year. So, maybe, Indira is for 2024).

    This time dominican republic,venezuala,peru has chance of winning if we see mu crowning history,usa fully started under trump in 1997,T&T 2nd runner up,following year they win their 2nd crown after 21 yrs,so by this format dominican republic can take up,also france won in 2016 previous year they were in top 5 and france win is as of now longest gap,so I am taking peru as peru's win will supress france,also peru was semi finalist,and usa had crowned peru,also curoca can win their first crown .

      Forget Venezuela! After the toxic compatriots of Amanda Dudamel being really sore losers and still continue to have the displeasures over their 2022 loss known in MU pages as well as practically everywhere in the internet, it will take a very long time for any Venezuelan queen to place again let alone win. I'm sure Anne JKN - nor I in her Manolo Blahnik shoes - would rather not be pestered by that country's pageant gladiators who can only accept defeat when their candidates do not make it past the first cut - like the original Miss Tocuyo Mariam Habach - or even the most recent Top 16 placer Luiseth Materán. Just don't put a Miss Venezuela as one of the last two standing queens in a pageant edition if we want the world...er, the universe to have peace and quiet after any new Miss Universe coronation.

    The 1975 batch of Miss Universe held in El Salvador was not as pretty, charming and lovely as the 1974 batch held in Manila, Philippines. No one can forget the heavenly beauty of Amparo Munoz of Spain and her runners up from Wales, Finland, Colombia and Aruba and even the semifinalists such as Miss Australia, Miss Puerto Rico, Miss Panama, Miss Philippines and Miss India. They were so naturally beautiful.

      Strange comment. What is not so naturally beautiful with the 1975 batch?

    When El Salvador was announced as the host country, my partner (who indulges my passion for pageants with consternation and bewildered amusement) expressed astonishment: "With a human rights crisis, controversial mass incarceration policy, violent drug cartels and its Bitcoin crash how is this country able to host MU?" Well, I said, " I guess pageants transcend local politics".

      Does your partner lives in El Salvador? There is an international campaign with the intention to make El Salvador as an authoritarian that violent human rights of assassin, extortionists, kidnappers, drug dealers, thats what the humans rights organizations are spreading but why these organizations never but never pronounced or talk in favor of the thousands and thousands of salvadorean that lost their life and freedom. They had to pay rent to the gánsters to stay safe in their own home or have authorization to access to their neighbors other than that they just simply got killed. Those “human rights” organizations are linked to other rich and powerful people that their unique interest is make money without caring of the life of people.

    The only reason Finland was crowned as the winner is to give justice to 1974 second runner up from Finland Johanna Ranuhio who should be Miss universe after Spain quit and Wales win Miss World then quit.tje runner up position is useless after all.

    It also means that El Salvador government is no longer afraid of its own people. It means we're growing soft and the state does not see us a a threat no more, like it used to.
