1984 was not the time for a legend like Steve. So sad he passed away when he did. If he’d been around during the mid 90s Brit pop/new mod revival he’d have been headlining stadiums!
very probably
That's a good point that I'd never thought of. Very likely to of had a massive revival mid 90s
Yea definitely ten years after this he’d have spearheaded the britpop scene with Weller
The mod revival was in the late 70s early 80s
@@socialistvision2579 Yes but in the mid 90s there was the Brit pop scene which was fronted by Weller.
Robbed and treat like crap by the music industry.
Amazing talent, INCREDIBLE voice.

It wasn’t Don Arden AGAIN was it?! I’m sure he managed the small faces.
@@Eleventhearlofmars first Don Arden, then Andrew Loog Oldham at Immediate. Both owed him (and the other Small Faces) an awful lot of money!

Marriott's voice deserves to be shot into deep space in a capsule to showcase how decent us humans can get. The man was brilliant. So sad he died so young. Geezer.
RIP, STEVE
To me, Steve Marriott came across a genuine human being who I would have liked to have gotten to know as a friend. May his memory be eternal.
I saw him playing with a band called The DTs at a pub in Leicester just a few months before he died. He'd still got it.
Me too great live band especially Steve even lucky enough to seen live. Would make a great drinking partner too. R.I.P.
Humble Pie was big in the USA in the early 70s. Small Faces were not big in the USA
The kind of geezer you'd have gone for a few pints with. God bless him and his voice
Tony Robinson remembers him as a bully when a youngster
Stanley Unwin what a treasure, what a long lost treasure. Such an underrated treasure.
God bless Steve Marriott, DIAMOND fella, love him!
I saw Packet Of Three a couple of times and Steve Marriott Band, always a great, raucous night out.
The HP album was Street Rats, Muriel.
Now, where's my prize?
One of the best vocalists in rock history
I'm still all about Steve Marriott. Such a talented musician and lead singer. Gone far too soon. Love that Cockney accent.
So sad he died so young at 44 in 1991
... cockney, cockney, cockney, awww - what a delight... yes, indeed...

@@ScottishTeeVee Your welcome. New generations should get to enjoy the cream of the 60,s and 70,s.
And Steve Marriot is as good as it got.
After seeing your video, I put on some Humble Pie.
Killer guitarist too
I was a sound engineer for the Filmore East in May '71 (for Bill Graham, not the band) when Humble Pie recorded Rockin' The Filmore. The entire band were just normal guys that were very considerate and a pleasure to work with.
Steve was possibly the best singer England ever produced.
By far. Small Faces and Humble Pie lead singer and songwriter. Robert Plant was a huge fan. Most Zep fans don't realize they have Steve to thank for Robert's fantastic style.
@@Edward-pu1wt and packet of three of course Ed.
Oh Yeah
I agree. I'd add Ian Gillan and Paul Rodgers as my 3 favourite rock singers.
Along with Paul Rodgers.
Not sure if Muriel meant to sound so condescending but she did, Steve was a fantastic Singer/songwriter with two great Bands and deserved to be respected.
What's up with that chick
Miss Steve, Ronnie and Ian. Such talent.
She also looks fairly ridiculous even for the 80s

Wish Steve was still here. R.I.P. So many great songs.
I had the pleasure of meeting Steve when he toured Oz in 83 as Humble Pie (Steve was the only member of the original Pie). They played mainly to small pub audiences in Melbourne. Steve generously allowed me to join him and the band after a gig at the Commodore hotel in Sandringham. I was thrilled to finally meet my teenage hero, as this was Steve's first time back (I think), after the notorious tour with the Who in the late 60's. There was no pretence about Steve, and we enjoyed a few beers together as I kept telling him how much I loved his voice!
Halleluja (I just love her so) was the Humble Pie cover off Rockin the Fillmore, which radio 3XY played in 1971. That started my appreciation and love of Steve's unique vocals, and the driving rock that the Pie pumped out. I still rate Rockin The Fillmore as one of the best live performances by a Rock band.
I bought all the earlier albums, and then discovered the Small Faces ... what a hard act to follow!
Peter, thanks for taking the time to leave a great comment. You were very lucky to have met Steve.
@@ScottishTeeVee met him again in 1985 at a London pub when we went to see him perform with his Packet of Three. Actor John Hurt introduced Steve to the audience. Just sorry I didn't get a photo, but I've got the memories!
follow, impossiblo.
@@ScottishTeeVee Yes I would think he would be a cool guy to hang with, and what a rockaroller he was!
Great story, thanks
He was only 33-34 here. Not even near old , yet he had already been through the grinder many times. Legend. RIP Steve
where are you getting this 33 -34 business from? He was born in '47, which would make him 37 yrs old here, still a young man, by anyone whose lived a little's standards, but I had to check it, because your estimation would have made him 14yrs old in 1965 when they had their first hit single😂😂😂..Still, I agree with the sentiment of your post 😀
Said it many times
“Steve Marriott the real deal “
Absolutely
Great guy Steve and great band SF. That was my Telecaster he used in this video, we swapped guits in 1967 (ish) and in 1978 I did the sound engineering on the SF reunion tour...... crazy and great fun. R.i p. Steve.
Thanks for watching and commenting, you were lucky to have known him and the band. BTW are you Garth?
@@ScottishTeeVee....thanks for answering.
You are close but no i'm not, Garth didn't do sound engineering.👍🇬🇧
So you knew Steve pretty well? Was that 78 tour with Jimmy M?
@@PatriotSteve . I knew Steve purely on a professional basis, but on tour that can be socially intense too.
Sorry but I don't remember Jimmy.

Outstanding performer. Note enough focus on Humble Pie's success. Saw the Pie twice in the UK in '73 and '74, blinking marvellous.

In September or early October I saw Steve in a small club in Chicago. it was a total impulse thing. It only held 200 maybe and had a horseshoe bar and then a hall going to the bathrooms. But he rocked. He wasn't the only one who filled 5,000 seaters who played there. And played some new stuff bu things like Hot n Nasty and 30 days in the Hole were great.
Thanks for watching and commenting, you were lucky to have seen him in such a small venue
Steve Marriott, the Small Faces. Great music, great characters, long remembered after what’s her name has been forgotten..

PLAYLIST !!!!!!!! Not cool .
I hate interviewing twits asking rude questions. Steve Marriot didn't need to survive for anybody. He was an original treasure who made his mark twice. The Small Faces & Humble Pie were without a doubt the best raw rockers. No makeup or laser lights needed! Godbless Steve everytime he opened up his mouth. Awesome rude and crude style, the way rock started out. Nasty vocals with an attitude only Steve Steve Marriot could pull off just right everytime. What a total rock package and crazy fellow he was. Miss you buddy! 👍
I usually like Muriel, she was much better than pouting Paula but here she has it all wrong. She doesn't realise she is speaking to one of the greatest, most soulful vocalists ever to breath. Stanley's Unwin get's it - the faces gave him his best gig and made him immortal.
Time flies..............Muriel is now 62 !
That was 37 years ago. Sometimes it takes a while to understand and recognize greatness I remember Itchycoo Park when I was little (born in 61) but it wasn’t until my 20s that I really appreciated his vocals and the fact that live they sounded like the Yardbirds all wild and bluesy with those soul vocals. And on album they often sounded Mod. That’s why so many people of different tastes liked them. I’d heard Ian on a lot of the Stones stuff and Ronnie Lane was amazing at bass and writing up there with McCartney. And I saw Kenny Jones with the Who in Montreal in 1981 he was a solid drummer. Then there were The Faces. And Steve Marriott was Jimmy Pages first choice for The New Yardbirds (Zep) listen to ‘You Need Loving’ by the Small Faces (Willie Dixon a la Muddy Waters ) lol
@@andyelliott8027 well I’m Sixty and was 23 in 1984 so it stand to reason. At least I ain’t dead and I feel great. Lol😎👍
Yes Indeed!
@@johngore7744 Yep, right on there bro. He was the best front man going. As good as Jagger, most times, in my humble opinion.
I've just heard fheir record today and got absolutely mesmerized by the frontman's voice. I love 60's sound and now love even more.
Lazy sunday is one song you must listen to, if you haven't already. It blew my mind the first time I heard it and I'm a collector of 60's music. Also the album of his, Ogdens Nut Gone Flake, you need to hear that too. There's not many albums I can say I love 100% of the content on it, but that album is.
@@MrBooojangles Yeh but Lazy Sunday didn't show his voice at its best. He put on a mockney accent for that song. That was because someone accused him of sounding American when he sang, so he thought, "right I'll bleed'n' well show ya.". So he did Chas & Dave nearly 20 years before they appeared.
Steve such a major talent and voice and the small faces too if paul weller respects them and loves there influence you know that have to be good breaks my heart the small faces had it all the beautiful opening riff of get yourself together the raw power of tin soldier the energy of shake and dont burst my bubble and the psychedelic beauty of autumn stone when the flute kicks in it puts you at ease rip steve ronnie mac gone but never forgotten
If someone who didn’t know who Steve Marriott saw this, I don’t think they could possibly expect what a performer and singer he was. He was incredible. He comes across as a cheeky chappy barrow boy here.
Yes well he did play the part of The Artful Dodger when he was a kid. Excellent casting IMO.
A great man (out of time) in this interview. 1984 was not the time to be harping back to the sixties and reflecting on the wonderful Small Faces. In 1995 it would have been. I guarantee that if Steve had lived he would have been in vogue (and in demand) and worked with Paul Weller, Ocean Colour Scene et al.
Spot on Ian
The Genius that is Steve Marriott. I remember this at the time. Thank you for your fantastic music Steve. Bless you
Glad you enjoyed it Paul
I remember this on the tube....sad he died ... Great singer
I've always thought that Steve Marriot was a brilliant artist and he could do it all too! The Small Faces were one of the best bands of all time and thier music still sounds fab after all of these many decades...I think that both Stevie & Ronnie L were incredibly underrated and Steve Marriot was the best front man ever IMHO! That's saying something coming from me as it is...whatever the it factor is...he had IT in spades...I don't think that he or Ronnie ever got the props for thier contributions in the world of R&R! It's just how I personally feel about it...it's so sad that the world lost them so young...thank God for the tuneage that they've left behind for us all to enjoy ...there was only one SM and when that's said...it's all said...
Great Man and loved all his work = even bought a guitar like his - playing along = HERO CHAMPION !
Had the " Honour" to meet Steve in 1966 at the height of The Small Faces success, my best friend and I were 15 at the time, still at school, huge Small Faces fans, and when they played Falkirk Town Hall,Scotland.. He was such a lovely down to earth guy, tiny in stature, but what a voice,a memorable moment in my life.. Gone to soon Steve, R.I.P. dear man..
Thanks for watching and commenting. I never realised they had bands on at the old Town Hall in the 60's, in your case it was June 1st 1966
There’s some footage on RUclips of Steve around this time, I think the group is (Pack of 3). Drummer, Bassist and Steve on Guitar and Vocals, and it’s a great example of how great he really was he’s Voice and Guitar interplay is F#cking spot on and he’s playing all the Licks at the same time, he really was something special, an Absolute Force of Nature, Know one today is anywhere near him and could never get anywhere near him in a Billion years, he could shit Turds with more talent then the so called stars of today and they know it.👊

Great to see this. I never knew he had done any interviews. Seeing him drinking there, it's such a shame it contributed to his death and that he died so young. If only he was alive now, I bet he would be doing very well out of his music career. And good to see Stanley Unwin talking normally for once. Even when I remember him being interviewed by Wogan and Parky, he would always talk in his gibberish talk and although mildly funny, I just wanted to hear him chat normally about his life in those situations.
