    This special edition was launched in Dec 2021. By comparing to 40 series, it's a little bit outdated. This year Acer will launch a upgraded generation Helios 3D 15, but it's still a limited version. I'm wondering will you test Helios 16/18 or new Triton series in future reviews? Thanks.

      @@OWNORDISOWN Oh that's brilliant news re Clevo, cheers mate. With a 4080 minimum and a 13980HK minimum (I need unlocked I like multiplier control), I'd be interested in something like this. I really hope they get it to 500 nits though.

    • @OWNORDISOWN
      @OWNORDISOWN  Год назад +1

      @Teddy M I measured 486 nits (4k panel). It failed latencymon....it is the first next gen laptop that had no issues. No stuttering. The CPU did run hot, hitting 97 to 100 deg C in Extreme performance mode. Entertainment mode was low 90s/high 80s and performed slightly faster than an OC 4080 I would say. The 4090 was probably about 10% faster than a 4080.
      The tuning HIDEVOLUTION did definitely make it feel real snappy. You can alter the multipliers and power limits in the software. Also undervolt, but for some reason it didn't seem to work. Didn't show up in HWINFO64 and didn't make any difference to the CBR23 score or lower temperatures. I even tried Throttlestop with same result...small 280w power brick. Surprised it wasn't a 330w but seemed OK. Webcam muc picks up lots of background noise. Nice laptop. Fans on loud side, quiet mode is like 38 Db but CPU is 15w which makes gaming a no go.

    • @teddym2808
      @teddym2808 Год назад

      @@OWNORDISOWN Ok interesting, did you test latencymon with windows high power scheme? I'll wait to see full review but the undervolting is a bit of a deal breaker as it really helps with 13th gen. Do multipliers hold at least? I don't care if temps are 98 if it's like putting maximum watts to the cpu, but if they are 98 and it's 40 watts like the Razer, then it's an issue. I have to really wait to just see the review and HW info and all that. 280w brick is also a real surprise.
      I am really thankful and happy you have spent time with one for sure. I owe you one.
      PS you should see the latest Asus Scar 17 with Ryzen 7945HX, best latencymon I have ever seen on a laptop. Just 2 green segments at most, and like 200 was the highest peak. Amazing.

    • @OWNORDISOWN
      @OWNORDISOWN  Год назад +1

      @Teddy M I did check out that Scar and reviewed it, didn't test latencymon though. I have always said the AMD systems do best with it.
      I didn't test the multipliers as I literally had to test it all in one day. Changed the power limits OK. I think you will like the system, it's not like the Razer reducing its watts unless you use quiet or power saver mode.

      @@OWNORDISOWN Do you have any incoming Predator Helios 18' that were announced all the way back at Ces? That is a laptop i've been interested in, but it is seemingly nowhere to be found (atleast in N.A). There is a 4060 model at Best Buy that seemingly just become available for order, but otherwise there has been very little in the way of next gen Acer Helios Predator laptops being reviewed and sold.
      Also i assume none of those will have this "Spacial" technology for 3d right, it has to be specific models with this technology (unfortunately likely with a commensurate ~$1k price gouging on top of the otherwise identical specs).

    I've tried various devices with 3D displays before and I feel like any kind of 3D effect is useless in a small laptop displays (or other things with small displays like handheld devices) with their limited field of view - I was always aware that I am playing game on small flat display no matter how good the depth effect was, so it didn't make me feel more "immersed" in any way. I'd much rather put that extra $1000 (the cost of having such option on this laptop) towards proper VR goggles. Especially since this SpacialLabs thing does not list VRChat or any other existing socialization-oriented multiplayer games as "Supported game title".

      I think its a question of price. I would pay a bit of a premium to have glasses free 3D, perahsp an extra $200 or $300. Certainly not an extra $1000. The problem with 3D before was that you needed the glasses. These glasses made the image darker too. One can say the same about VR. At teh start it was expensive but as the price dropped it has become more popular. True, it will never be mainstream but at least you can turn it off and on easily.
