Love to see people discover tool. Trust me they change the way you listen to music no matter what type of music you like. There’s not another band like them. This song is a great introduction to their music but be warned your scratching the surface. Enjoy the ride brother👍
Great reaction. Welcome to Tool. The greatest band on the planet. Sober is one of their simpler songs and is not even close to their best song. Keep listening to Tool and the Tool Army will come support you in droves.
Yo brother, trust me...they ARE your favorite. You may just not know it quite yet... Welcome to the Tool rabbit hole, my friend. Strap it in and forget everything you thought you knew about modern music. Subscribed!
Subbed for more Tool :D I really enjoyed your reaction and the breakdown of the lyrics. With Tool, it's best to listen first, don't worry about videos or lyrics at first. Just be patient and listen. Then, once you've recovered, you can check out the lyrics, as you did in this reaction. Bravo! I am looking forward to your Tool journey. May I request their entire catalog? There isn't a bad song. I'm not kidding. Also, the singer is Maynard James Keenan, he writes the lyrics after Adam (guitar), Danny (drums), and Justin (bass, though in this song, Sober, you heard Paul D'Amour who left the band in 1995) finish writing the music. He gets a feel for the music, then writes appropriately and perfectly and often profoundly. Maynard also has two other bands that he sings with: A Perfect Circle and Puscifer. Both of which are incredible in their own right. I cannot recommend highly enough doing the entire Tool catalog, and all of APC and most of Puscifer. It is next-level stuff. Anyway, great job and I'll be here for the Tool Experience :D
Tool Army is EXTREMELY passionate. My all time favorite. Avoid the actual music videos. Lyric videos or just the songs. They have evolved greatly as a band since Sober. The Pot, Schism, Parabol/Parabola (together!!!!), Lateralus, The Grudge, Aenema, 46&2, Jambi, Pnuema. I could go on and on.
Great reaction man...The Tool Army loves watching people experience Tool songs....You go down this road ur subs and views will skyrocket....u gotta a new sub right here my man👍😁👍
I would suggest the audio only from the bands channel, because of the quality and would pull up the lyrics seperate. Also most of the better quality lyric-videos are gone now, since the band has their own youtube-channel.
What’s up! With Tool, it’s really best to avoid the music videos. They are cool, but very distracting from the music. After this album they went through a small line up change and the next album, ”Ænima” is imo the first where they sort of found their sound and voice as a band. I feel their music kind of demands the full attention, that’s why I don’t usually enjoy seeing first time reactions to Tool songs with the music videos. People always start talking about the visuals, and the track kinda gets lost. Especially on the later albums where the music gets way more intense in a way. Also, it’s recommended to keep lyrics pulled up, there’s some great writing in these songs that is easily missed. Especially on first time reactions. I’d recommend checking out: -46&2 -Hooker With A Penis -The Grudge -Lateralus -Parabol/Parabola (2 separate tracks that need to be listened together) -The Pot Eventually I’d recommend going through them all lol Subbing, hoping to see more Tool
Munk Hammer hey thank you for that! It’s funny bc I don’t think I mentioned the visuals in this video even tho I was watching, thank you for the info on the music as well, your feedback is much appreciated and I’ll definitely look into those songs 🙌
Teez McGee yeah I have to admit I was kinda impatient and wrote the comment before checking the whole vid... so you’re right on that, you avoided that pit trap nicely. But to my point, the music from the next album forward gets a lot more ”complicated”, so any video you might see from their later albums would be a slightly different thing. Sober is a pretty straight forward song, so you can easily keep up with both the music and the vid. Also, some of the later videos get pretty crazy, and 9/10 reactors get sucked into the visual side of things and kind of miss the important bits of the music and the lyrics. And Tool fans really like to see people reacting to the music itself, rather than the visuals. It’s all good tho, I really liked your video. Thanks for replying yo!
Yes, that's solid advice. Focus first on the music (lyric videos can be helpful) and then check out the bizarre stop-action videos later if you are so inclined.
@@munkhammer1880 The funny thing is, that imo it is not even enough to listen to a tool song once. They are the kind of band where you hear lot of different details on the second run. Tool impacted my guitar playing a lot, too. I play for nearly two decades now and was to focused on shredding and improving fingerstyle. Its not even that hard to play a tool song on guitar if you can handle exotic rhythms. Welcome to the rabbit hole that so many of us have gone down throughout our life. My journey started in 1993 the first time I listened to Opiate as a junior in High School. Have been my favorite band since that day. When you listen to Tool it is always best to dive into the lyrics. Try The Pot, 46&2, Stinkfist, and Schism to really begin to appreciate their genius. Then move to Lateralus, Vicarious, Right in Two. Stay away from the new album (Fear Inoculum) until you lay the groundwork for yourself listening to tracks from some previous albums. Pay close attention to Danny Carey (drummer). For my money one of the best drummers to ever live.
I also wanted to point out, you have done the best job with a reaction of almost anyone I’ve seen. Doing a lyric review. Talking about it. You’re up there with Lost in Vegas for me already. I hope you continue.
I really like that you're going through the lyrics after hearing the song. The lyrics to tool songs are some of the best. Maynard has an amazing way of putting words together.
Not many bands I will say this about, but Tool & Rush it is definitely safe to say the live versions are even better. You really need to hunt out the live videos for many of these songs you are reacting to. Truly next level stuff.

Teez McGee That video was made by Tool’s guitarist Adam Jones, who used to be a professional animator and visual effects artist before Tool. He was actually working on Jurassic Park when the band first got signed. And he is responsible for a lot of Tool’s artwork. If you watch the video from an artistic point view (and how hard stop animation is to make) you might enjoy it more. Anyway, happy you liked the song. Hope you keep exploring them as this song is just the beginning of their talent.
@@eclipsewrecker I think Jimmy is a touch more strange and the structure far more complicated than a "rock song" but yeh all good tracks (bar maybe Vicarious, I have always found that a non starter overrated track but that's just a subjective opinion, I see why folks like it)
While I agree with the sentiment about not getting distracted by videos on a first listen, this particular video is an official Tool video, art directed by Adam Jones, who worked as a professional animator and practical effect designer before Tool.
@@TeezMcGee They are distracting, especially for a first listen. There are also a ton of horrible fan-made videos and some videos where they just used a Tool song as background for their own animation crap. I won't watch reactors who choose those versions because I think they are terrible. Audio only for Tool and then checking out the lyrics is the way to go.

Brent Jewell appreciate you my man! Thank you sincerely 🙌
To think this song is nearly 30 yrs old.
If I were to rate all tool songs...not one would be less than 6.5 out of 10...I would rate this one 7.5 out of 10...trust me there are many I would rate at 9-10 out of 10. This track is early and a fraction of what this band have become (and its still a great track)
Definitely time for you to go down Tools rabbit hole of music. You're in for a ride, dude.
Sober live
Well....we made rock. *ahem*
Good first pick :)
Rock and hip hop arent the same lmaooo
Ill subscribe. As long. As. You. Explore tool
Anyone else feel like these lyrics allllllmost make sense in some sort of Shakespearean way....but ultimately don't exactly make sense haha.
barry barry lmaooo
They should be #1 so it evens out. U said 15 they said 32.
This song wasn't bad at all, I liked it. But the visuals were creepy AF 2 me, lol. I'm a whimp though, FR FR. 🔥🔥 Reaction as always! Keep up the good work👏. Will u check out Snow Tha Product when u have time plz?
Myra Kimbrough lol the visuals were definitely strange but I haven’t really looked too much into to understand them, hopefully they get more palatable for some of my viewers tho 😂 and yes I will definitely look into that! You know I got you! Thank you as always ❤️
I'm subscribing for tool but you gotta include lyrics too ok. You'll understand
Chris Lucero thank you! I got you man 🙌
Watch sober live......
Definitely NOT their best song. I would recommend you look at The Pot as well. It's a good starter piece.
Charlie Anne Caves agree....sober, the pot, 46&2, vicarious, H., Jimmy ...all solid “rock songs,” and a nice intro to their portfolio.
@@eclipsewrecker I think Jimmy is a touch more strange and the structure far more complicated than a "rock song" but yeh all good tracks (bar maybe Vicarious, I have always found that a non starter overrated track but that's just a subjective opinion, I see why folks like it)
It's absolutely their best song and actually will probably be the one song They're most remembered for by most people
Don’t watch the videos for tool, there fan made and take away from the song. I suggest headphones, sit back and enjoy some tool.
While I agree with the sentiment about not getting distracted by videos on a first listen, this particular video is an official Tool video, art directed by Adam Jones, who worked as a professional animator and practical effect designer before Tool.
32. is a lie.
I recommend avoid music videos for your first listen. They tend to be bizarre and distracting.
Yes I did sober and plenty of ppl told me that 🤣 appreciate you!
That video was so disappointing. They probably lost 50 possible fans over this mixed up video. Sorry dude maybe buy a cd
I dislike this because you watched the censored video
drewbieware lol no problem my man
Don't watch the videos
Jamey Shepherd are they that damaging?
@@TeezMcGee They are distracting, especially for a first listen. There are also a ton of horrible fan-made videos and some videos where they just used a Tool song as background for their own animation crap. I won't watch reactors who choose those versions because I think they are terrible. Audio only for Tool and then checking out the lyrics is the way to go.
