    Reposted from another video's comment:
I just got this monitor. Have been playing around with it for 3 days now to see if it really has issues worth sending back. I have noticed the red/green black smear issue at 144/165hz and higher overdrive settings. My final settings that I have no issues with:
Turn off all monitor processing features (ELMB, ASCR, blue light filter, eco mode, shadow boost)
    Overdrive = 20
Enable 10 bit color (Nvidia control panel, use Nvidia Color Settings - 10pbc-32bit-output RGB) (for HDR to work right)
Refresh rate 120hz + gsync fullscreen only
Global frame cap 115fps (nvidia control panel), set individual games to 110 in game FPS limit if possible
I also calibrated mine with DisplayCAL and an i1 displaypro calibrator:
    Settings (top): sRGB
Spectral correction : LCD PFS Phosphor WLED Family
Whitepoint: (auto filled when selecting sRGB) Chromacity .3127x .3290y
    Tone curve: SRGB
    Contrast (monitor): default of 80
Conclusion: It runs great for me at these settings. I don't need anything more than 120hz because I typically play at max visual fidelity at the cost of FPS so I generally target 90-100fps in most games anyway even on a 3080. There is a definite improvement over my old 27GL83a-b in picture quality, black levels, back light bleed and uniformity. I am happy with the panel in that regard, but the motion handling and obviously max refresh take a hit vs an IPS alternative. At 120hz refresh rate I'm not even sure there's much motion handling difference vs the IPS, or I've already got used to it and it's a non issue. HDR performance is great for only being HDR400 with an actual max of 550. Sea of thieves looks incredible as an example. Anyway that's just my .02 from someone who read about all the issues and bought it to try anyway. This would not have been my choice if I were purely wanting high refresh rate and excellent motion handling, I would have gone for the alienware AW3821DW or LG38GL950, but those are 3x the price making this a great compromise. Final note the 34" 21:9 is SO much better than my 27" 16:9, it feels absolutely huge, and gave me the extra horizontal viewing angle I wanted

A downside I found out after I had gotten a second one is that the backlight really does not last at all. I have 2 of these side by side, same settings, and the older one is about half the brightness of the new one. Their manufacturing dates are only 2 years apart.
Another issue which I really hate is that asus removed firmware updates from their website, so you cannot update your firmware after you get it, and there appear to be significant changes between versions, with entirely new settings.
Support will also refuse to give you a direct link or way to download the firmware update and requires you to send it in for repairs just for them to update the firmware for you.
Your only hope of support is going to RUclips and possibly finding repair guides, which are few and many do not go into detail.

@@1UpNerdcore It took a while to get to me, but it eventually did. Hadn't it been for an opened cable package I would have thought it was new. So far I only noticed some color trailing in dark/shadowy areas and only if frame rates drop (Deus Ex MD is a perfect test for this).
I somehow missed that it even has speakers and was quite surprised. I usually game with a headset but to play some Monkey Island or Minecraft with the kids that's very convenient :-)
So, yes, I am exremely happy with it. Thank you again for the review!

@@endlosschleife im in serious crisis on making a decision between this panel and another LG ultrawide. I love the LG its IPS etc but its way more expensive and i rather like the price of the ASUS. but getting apprehensive because of the all the complaints about the green red flashing issue and the ghosting because its a VA panel. How are you liking it now? do you use it for alot of gaming? hows it perform?

    • @endlosschleife
      @endlosschleife 2 года назад +3

@@Djaym0 Ugh sorry, I wanted to answer right away but forgot about it. Not sure if it still helps, but I'll give it a go now. I've been seeing the green/red issue not often overall, but regularly in some games. It mostly seems to happen when the fps drop below 60. When it happens, it's rather immersion-breaking unfortunately. It can apparently be mitigated by in-game motion blur features. Using the monitor's overdrive feature seems to make it worse.
Had this a lot in Deus Ex MD, as mentioned. There's a transition in night-time Prague at the pedestrian bridge, probably loading textures in the background. Also, the stone textures at night-time are prone to it.
I saw it a little in Cyberpunk, usually at night time and spots that are more complex, with dropping frame rates.
Last game I played Terminator: Resistance which has a lot of night time missions and dark spots. I almost never saw it happening there.
I don't notice a lot of ghosting tbh but that may just be me. I've been using it almost exclusively for gaming until 3 days ago.
All in all, after a year of experience, I don't regret buying it, especially for the special offer I got. That said, I have little to no experience or comparison to current (or even 1 year old) tech since I haven't really been gaming for ~10 years prior and that reflected in my hardware. Means I was coming from a 24" 1080p@60 Hz Samsung display 🙈

The dark tones on those LG nano displays are disappointing however the LG nano displays are fast with very little image banding to be found with color tones that really pop.
As for the Alienware I know little to nothing specific but I would certainly consider the new alienware aw3423DWF (The F model is the new one that does not use the G-sync module and is 165Hz) QD-OLED. Samsung is finally releasing their model based on their QD-OLED which is the same as the one used in the Alienware version. Samsung simply adds multimedia features into it.
VA panels are nice for the contrast and the deep blacks but they are far more likely to have issues with dark tones. the MSI MAG301CR2 really suffered at lower than 70fps and at higher than 180Hz it could not keep up with the fast moving images.

I've reliaze something strange, the monitor support 12bits!!!, you only have to change the frecuency in nvidia panel to 60hz, come back to 100hz (HDMI LOCKED), and come back again to 60hz and 12bits is unlocked. the quality of colors chage a lot and ghosting disapears.

Where is the live background with the fox from? That's quite something. I like your review. I'd just like to note that color accuracy isn't the same as color gamut. I suggest you get a colorimeter if you're going to test this with monitors. The wider color gamut is preferable for HDR content, but otherwise it can oversaturate colors in the sRGB color space. Because most content from Windows to programs to apps, to the internet itself, is designed for sRGB, it has to stretch this color space to fit its own. You can get around this using sRGB emulation. I imagine both monitors will look similar if limited to this, though IPS may well still have a more vibrant appearance. With a lower contrast ratio of IPS panels, however, the difference may be less noticeable.

looks like might be a monitor to upgrade my OG daddy of 3440x1440 VA panels, the first ever VA panel released in this format, the Samsung S34E790C that I own since 2015 (the 3rd ever produced 3440x1440, the first 2 being IPS panels from LG with terrrible backligh bleed)
I was thinking of getting the 3840x1600 38" but tested one for a week and it's a bit too big and have to move my head to look corner to corner so will probably just get a new 34"
not that I really need one, but planning to upgrade my GPU and could use the extra refresh rate, probably better colors and better SW features being newer ;o]

Hi...how come this monitor seems "better" than LG 34GN850-B or Alienware AW3420DW? Do you think it is cuz LG(GSync compatible) and Alien(GSync module)?
Resolution is the same...but Refresh rate seems a little bit higher and of course it looks that HDR do to the higher brightness should be better(even if none of them have dimming zones) and it is not all about that :-)
I had PG35VQ but sadly fans were too noisy so i returned that and looking for something without with with better HDR...

I can’t find anything saying you can over lock it and if you can it would be to 120 at most. The bigger downside is the brightness is still low on this like the G5 and it has a 5ms response time.
