    Thanks for the review. I purchased this monitor a few years ago for $380 on amazon (refurbished, but it was like new) (my first ultrawide and real gaming monitor...coming from a 32" Insignia HDTV ha) and I couldn't be happier. Unfortunately, I cracked the screen by accident...and it was cheaper to replace than repair. I looked into the MSI comparison, even looking into LG and Samsung...I decided to buy another ASUS, no regrets whatsoever.
    The ghosting is minimal compared to my friends MSI ultrawide.
    I play mostly COD, Forza Horizon, and DayZ. This monitor is awesome! Movies are great to watch on this too!

    I have the 32" version of this monitor. I must say, for a VA panel, it's got amazing color balance, and as with all VA panels, brightness and contrast are amazing! Very happy with my choice, and I COULD have gone 34", but the 32" works fine for me!

    I’ve had the monitor for two weeks now. I’ve noticed the purple trailing in dark scenes only in two games so far, Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice and Cyberpunk, and ONLY WITH HDR ENABLED. If I disable hdr, the trailing disappears. Strange enough, Doom Eternal and No Man’s Sky WITH HDR ENABLED do not exhibit this problem, and although it might be only coincidence, HDR in these two games seems MUCH BETTER IMPLEMENTED than in Hellblade and Cyberpunk.

Every other store I can think of is sold out of them, hoping the hype is worth it. Currently using a 27" 1440p Dell S2721DGF monitor, the older TN version not the newer IPS one. @@faizi521 hey, I haven't received it yet I ordered it last week and it should arrive on January 7th. The only concern about this monitor for sim racing is the 1500R curve, it will need to be really close to your eyes to prevent distortion, this won't be an issue for me since my sim rig monitor stand can be placed as close as I want to me but yeah. I've known other people that have purchased this same monitor for sim racing and they all love it.
      Other concern is if you're ever planning on going triples you will need plenty of space for it since it'll wrap around you very tightly.
      I only have a 1080ti at the moment so I have some upgrades needed to take advantage of all the monitor has to offer.

      Thanks! Let me know how it is once you get it.
      I will use a vesa mount to bring it closer and not rely on it's stand. The reason i am interested in this one is 165hz which will utilize 3080ti and also 1440p.
      Currently, i am running 5760x1080 but capped at 60fps.
      Planning to use triple monitors for work instead. I will order today as well.

    Had a disastrous experience with the Gigabyte G34WQC with Amazon. Had to return two of them due to what looked like dead pixels at first but it was actually specs of material stuck behind the panel, appearing as dark spots. Your review convinced me to go for the VG34VQL1B, which is 100€ more than the G34WQC where I live. I have to admit I'm a bit worried for the green artifacting as well as the G-Sync flicker. The G34WQC's I tried seemed perfect in that respect, but the defective panels screamed for return. I even wrote an e-mail to their customer support with pics attached, but never got an answer. Does the VG34VQL1B have the option to run 144Hz as well? I'm thinking my GTX 1080 might be better off than with 165Hz. Doom Eternal looked great with G-Sync@144Hz on the Gigabyte monitor. I'm hoping this Asus panel is my last run at the monitor lottery. I've been hitting the negative jackpot for the past two months! I'd be really curious to know how this monitor is working for you along the way. Mine should arrive wednesday but after the Gigabyte experience I'm definitely holding down my expectations : (

    Thanks for this review. I'm really interested in the G5 because of that extreme curve. However, I feel conflicted because I typically run dual monitors (this would be my first monitor bigger than 24"). Overall, I am still not sure which I would prefer to go, with this ASUS TUF or for the g5 with my new gaming setup for 1440p gaming.
    I would definitely be more interested in comparing this with the G5.

    • @1UpNerdcore
      @1UpNerdcore  3 года назад +4

      The G5 upside is the 1000R curve but the TUF beats its with the adjustable stand, extra USB ports, better bits, better contrast ratio, and better color accuracy.

    • @detail1337
      @detail1337 3 года назад +1

      @@1UpNerdcore So I intend on using a monitor arm to up clear up desk space. And using USB ports at the moment is a low priority (haven't found reasons to use any yet?). However, the better contrast catio and color accuracy is a highlight for me. How noticeable of a difference is there? Is it big enough that it's worth leaving that 1000r Curve behind? It'll be my first curve monitor, so either is a great choice.

    Hi again, thanks for the unboxing and review. Been looking forward to this. I play a lot of online games with friends such as Fortnite, COD, Apex and Rocket League. What would you're choice be between this monitor or an IPS with the same specs? As others have indicated I'm concerned about red/green ghosting as other have mentioned in other purchase reviews. Also, how well does it work with Gsync?

    • @1UpNerdcore
      @1UpNerdcore  3 года назад +1

      If you can get the IPS I’d go with that. I haven’t noticed the red or green ghosting personally but my eyes might not be tuning into it. G syncs seems to be running fine for the moment but I need more testing. I had some stuttering issues that I’m not sure if it was gsync, input lag from the internet, overdrive or the gpu causing it. Still lore testing to be done.

    This is by far the best monitor I've ever owned. I went from Acer Nitro XV340CK (absolute piece of shit with the worst customer service) to Cooler Master GM34-CW (Ebay purchase that never arrived) to MSI Optix MAG342CQRV (Awesome but wanted more than 100hz) to finally this here monitor the Asus Tuf VG34VQL1B. The colors are beautiful, comes with Freesync Premium, (48-165fps range) the menu is great and easily accessible and the 4 port usb hub is a life saver. The 100x100 vesa mounting is also great and straightforward contrary to other ultrawides that are 75x75 or even worse regressed 75x75 and require all kind of shenanigans , from extra screws to odd plates or adapters just to be compatible with your average heavy duty monitor arm that is required for such heavy monitors. Personally I have no problem with high overdrive settings but others do. Another thing that caught my attention is the fps drop you mentioned. I noticed that occasionally my fps is ping ponging all over the place and I attributed it to me goofing around with the Radeon tuning software but there might be more to it. Looking forward to your next video and your findings.

      @SagittariusAx 3 года назад

      Mine does... but it is not that often noticeable, for instance on Apex Legend this monitor is really doing fantastic ! No inverse ghosting at all and the motion clarity is great.
      So I'm worried that most reviews won't even notice it, because it's harder to spot on testufo or eizo test unless you pick very specific dark colors some colors transitions won't show inverse ghosting some other will, if you pick just greyscale you won't see it.
      On some games, I often need to lower the OD to 20 which is the minimum.
      Regarding FreeSync, the monitor behave much better on my RTX 2080 than on my 3080... that's surprising...
      I don't know if it's something to do with Ampere card or if my 3080 simply has a problem with VRR, because even on my previous display (34" 1440p Philips 40-100Hz freesync), FreeSync would work very well on the 2080, it was basically always enabled, but I often had issues on the 3080 sometimes forcing me to play without. And the problems are not even the same on the old and new panel with freesync enabled.
      With the ASUS paired with the 3080, with freesync enabled, it looks like the cards messes up the OD. On some random frame, it will display excessive inverse ghosting. Also a strange behavior, with the Asus menu I can see that the HZ often missmatch the fps and fluctuate way more, it also often tries to double the Hz (ex: 60fps 120hz) I know that can be normal it's what LFC does but usually LFC kicks in when your FPS is below the VRR's range. But I am not sure the monitor's HZ reading is correct as I don't see tearing and Freesync do add some smoothness as expected.
      The messed up overdrive for some frame simply never happens with the 2080. And the Hz and FPS are much better matched and the HZ doesn't fluctuate that much. I'm not sure but it seems a little bit smoother on the RTX 2080 but I could be biased with the better OD + FreeSync behavior.
      With the 2080 FreeSync off or simply with 300 fps in games, there are still some rare transitions that will display green/purple inverse ghosting. But again it seemed like the overal motion clarity was slightly better and with a little bit less overshoot.
      I need to test it further.... I have already made a video on my channel showing the inverse ghosting (freesync OFF 300+ fps) with the RTX 3080.

    • @AstraMilitarumFodder
      @AstraMilitarumFodder 3 года назад

      @@1UpNerdcore The ghosting/overshoot is very prominent on medium/bright objects over dark backgrounds, this when using the 165hz mode with Overdrive on, the lesser the overdrive setting the less prominent the overshoot, it looks like duplicate purple shadows. This is present with Freesync On or Off with 165hz/OV On.

    This monitor is very attractive, 550cd/m for this price is the very cool and the main advantage of this model on market, but why ASUS does not increased the brightness a little bit more, to 600cd/m? In this case, the monitor would have an HDR600 certificate.
    And this moment that this monitor is to close to HDR600 but doesn't have it very confusing me. Mby 550cd/m is just marketing and typical brightness(95% of cases) at boring 300cd/m?

    • @SagittariusAx
      @SagittariusAx 3 года назад +3

      I own it and I can tell that, side by side, it can be much brighter than my older Philips 349X7 3440x1440 34" Samsung VA panel 100Hz 300cd/m² 3000:1 117%sRGB
      With a similar brightness it's easy to tell the Asus has a higher contrast.
      Colors are even more vivid and a bit more saturated on the Asus.
      It's my first HDR monitor so I'm not the best to judge but with the following games, HDR looks significantly better than SDR : Cyberpunk, Doom Eternal, RDR2 and to some extend Far Cry 5 (but there I need to switch to HDR cinema in the monitor otherwise, whites are a bit too burnt while Gaming HDR is much better in RDR2). And I can tell a strong light or the sun, or explosions etc in those games feel really bright with a wow effect I haddn't in SDR.
      But FALD monitor are certainly much more impressive.
      Also it supports 10bits RGB up to 144Hz without chromasubsampling in nvidia control panel, at 165Hz it's 8bit + FRC or 10bits with chromasubsampling.
      I can't measure the brightness but VESA DisplayHDR Tests tool can read the EDID and here is what it reports :
      "Supported PQ Values :
      Max Effective Value: 707PQ (577.009399 nits)
      Min Effective Value: 717PQ (631.506531 nits)"
      "Max peak luminance: 603.70
      max frame-average luminance : 603.69843
      min luminance: 0.07 "
      "Gamut Coverage based on reported primaries
      % sRGB : 98.536652
      % AdobeRGB : 91.965034
      % DCI-P3 : 90.975861
      % BT.2100 : 67.577156
      % Human eye : 38.752079"
      So in my opinion... it's really could be really close to HDR600 certificate but we will know better with proper review.
      It just lacks local dimming :/

      You can check an exemple of the overshoot, I recorded it with my camera : ruclips.net/video/i297xSB9B6o/видео.html
      As I'm far from the only one reporting such issue, I believe they mostly behave similarly. But I wonder if these issues aren't more pronounced on nvidia hardware... tftcentral showed it in the past with some freesync monitor and I've also notice that my 3080 freesync support is not perfect (yet, could change with driver updates) on this monitor whereas it is absolutely flawless on my RTX 2080 (funny isn't it ? it might also be my 3080 that has a problem as it behave even worse with my older monitor that was also freesync and again the RTX 2080 was flawless...).
      But image quality ? fantastic ihmo. 165Hz is really awesome too and it is definitely giving me an advantage in some games even compared to my old 100Hz ultrawide.

      It's basically the best 34" ultrawide at the moment, excluding the montruous HDR1000 panels. And it is not very expensive for such kind of monitor.
      BUT... you must accept some strange rainbow like overshoot that sometimes you just can't avoid unless you disable the OD which I can't consider. I have a video showing the overshot strangeness... I believe rtings' protocol isn't able to accurately measure every overdrive behaviors... But I can agree that the response time is great ! motion clarity is very good on this panel !
