For anyone who is looking for info about Picture Mode and Black equalizer being disabled, or wondering about G-Sync flickering, I've added more deets in the description ^^^ (they both pretty much boil down to having HDR enabled). Thank you so much to everyone who commented for helping me get this info out there! :)
@@cornthedun3015 you can play with HDR and G-Sync disabled and there won't be any flickering. But I really don't recommend using HDR with this monitor. It does very little, if anything at all and is more of a marketing label than an actual feature. True HDR is meant for 10-bit color depth or higher screens, this one uses 8-bit. The colors on this monitor already look great to me and can be adjusted to anyone's liking.
Thank you so much for your kind words! :) I'll keep trying my best to make content that is helpful to consumers! This month is a little slow bc new hardware releases and they're hard to get, but I'll have some good vids by the end of this month or beginning of December. I really appreciate you watching!
@@squirtboxtagz4783 It's been great! I've loved going from 1080p to 1440p and the wide screen has been fantastic. Cyberpunk was a lot of fun to play on it. I would still recommend.
Just got this awesome monitor for 2 days now. However, there is no sound coming from the unit. Did anyone experience the same? Btw. I'm using HDMI Cable connected to my laptop and I'm currently updating all the drivers for my last resort to the problem. Hopefully it works this time. Thanks.
Although I don't use the built-in speakers, I haven't had an issue getting them to work. Just a couple of silly recommendations, but make sure your sound settings in Windows are set to the monitor, and make sure the volume is turned up in the monitor settings. If those settings are already good then I'd suggest swapping out the HDMI for another one just to see if the HDMI audio was bad. If none of that works then you may have a defective speaker my friend. Which is unfortunate, but the speakers truly are terrible on this monitor. If you can swing it, I'd suggest getting a little $20 sound bar or set of speakers to plug into the monitor audio jack or your laptops audio jack. I hope this helps!
@@MauriceTarantulas People seem to be either for or against curved panels mostly. I'm fine with either, really. But I think it's funny how I forget that the screen is curved at all when using the monitor haha
One of … if not the most comprehensive overviews of this panel. I have liked subscribed and saved this video for when mine comes in next week to use as a tutorial. Great channel and videos. I mike that you don’t have 5 minutes of intro or fluff and you get down to the nuts and bolts of all aspects of the gear you are reviewing. Outstanding.
Great monitor review! I watch a lot of monitor review by hardware unboxed and your review is almost as great as theirs! And for being such a small channel, your review is WAY better than I expected. Keep up the good work.
watching this on G34WQC.. great monitor! I personally have the standard picture setting with brightness on 80% and color vibrance on 12 and I'm in absolute love with it
It was requested to do so in my unboxing, so I couldn't skip it. It's a very neat feature! Glad I could offer some insight, thanks for watching my review! :)
Thanks for showcasing the PBP feature, could you try changing the output to 1770 x 1440 for each of the separate inputs? See whether it could help out with the "weird' stretching issue, as I'm interested in the PBP but not the black borders or the stretched out look. Appreciate it.
Thanks for a great review! It's easy to follow and get right to the point. Regarding the PBP, is it possible to change the screen size from 50/50 to 75/25?
Great review! I had this monitor for a month now too and I am really happy with it! The only minor annoyance is that to switch it off you have to long-press the joystick on the backside of the monitor. I wish there was just a simple button for that.
Thanks for the nice words and for watching! :) I'm glad you're liking the monitor too. I don't long-press to power off the monitor, it always automatically turns off when I shut down my PC. Maybe you can try this out, and if you do let me know how it goes!
For this, I just don't turn it off, taped some black tape on the standby light (because I hate those). And use an ahk script to force sleep the screen if I want to 'Turn off' the display when I go away but still want the PC on. For other cases I disabled 'Auto Switch Sources', so if I put the PC to sleep or turn it off and there is another source still one, it just goes to standby.
Can someone advice me between this monitor and the xiaomi 34 inch ultra wide 144 hz 2k 4 ms va , which one is better for gaming and what should I choose I’m kind of nervous
I'm still waiting for Hardware Unboxed to review this, as I want a bit more quantifiable data before making a purchase. There's no ultrawide at the moment that is quite as cheap as this one, and if it's on par with the other budget ultrawides... It seems like a no-brainer. From what I've been able to work out, most of the sub $1000 monitors are pretty much within margin of error in factors like colour accuracy, pixel response times, etc. So it seems to me that either you go budget VA, or you go high end IPS. The VA based ones that cost as much as (or nearly as much as) IPS based monitors seems to be mostly not worth the extra money. I have to admit though, if I buy this, and end up with such a large cluster of dim pixels, I'd probably just return it, as I wouldn't be able to ignore it once I'd seen it, and it would be a constant source of annoyance, simply know that I'd spent money on a new monitor, and it's "faulty" right off the bat.
I think that if this monitor is delivered completely flawless then it's more than worth the money. But it does seem that there are a decent amount of people who unfortunately received defective monitors, myself included, if only minor. So, with that being the case, ordering one of these does feel like somewhat of a gamble. According to NewEgg ratings alone, which is not a true representation of all buyers, the majority of people seem to have gotten a good, defective-free model. But still there's no way to guarantee that you'll be so lucky. I've noticed that the larger channels that have reviewed this monitor have all received defective-free panels and given positive reviews, but don't know if they are aware of the problems that others have had. Whichever monitor you end up going for, I hope you have a good experience!
@@BACustomPCs My big fear is, that if I get something too budget, and I place it next to my boyfriend's Asus ROG Swift 34" IPS, it'll end up feeling... Sub par. His is the first gen 100Hz model though, and I know ultrawides have come a long way since then, but IPS does tend to look a lot nicer than other panel types. I am limited in funds though, so well. We'll see what I end up with. This one does seem very tempting though. As far as I can tell, it uses the same panel as half a dozen other monitors of varying quality, probably the best being the Cooler Master GM34-CF, but that one isn't available here in Norway it seems.
@@rebeccaschade3987 Hahaha, I understand, you can't get shown up by the boyfriend! IPS panels tend to look a lot better, but are just now getting to the point where they have higher refresh rates (they also cost a premium). Let us know what you decide to go with, and good luck showing up the bf!
This video was rly helpful thanks! Probs gonna buy it soon as it’s in stock in Australia. Gonna go with me first ever pc (3080 which I was super lucky and won it from msi, r5 5600x). Only question I have is, is there any glare? As I will be using it in a very well lit area. Great vid!
Thank you :) Congrats on your 3080, mate! You're a lucky one, that's for sure, will make one heck of a first PC! There isn't any serious glare from the screen, it has more of a flat(ish) finish so it really isn't all that reflective.
Hello! Can you tell me your choice of the following screen types? LG 34gl750 - Gigabyte G34WQC - Samsung lc34g55 - Cooler Master GM34-CW. Thank you very much :))
Hi! I can't vouch for any of these monitors except for the Gigabyte monitor since it's the only one I've actually used. But I can say that the Cooler Master and the Gigabyte monitors use the same panel from Samsung, so the performance between those two will probably be similar. The Gigabyte monitor has been really great for me! At the end of the day you should go with the monitor that is available to you and meets your needs and budget. I hope this helps!
You might be able to tell a difference after switching from an IPS panel, but in my opinion the colors look just fine, although nothing special. The biggest drawback of this monitor IMO would be the ghosting, but it's good enough for someone like me to play casual-competitive online games. Overall, it's just a solid price for a monitor of this resolution, but nothing fancy.
from 12:20 - 13:00 min, you are explaining how dead pixels are common and they are hard to spot. Are you for real? Point of monitor is to display picture and if I give 600$ for monitor that has flaw out of box it is a BAD product and it is result of lousy production and now there are people like you that justify that. Instead of defending already lousy production and customer services you should demand in this video 0 dead pixel warranty.
If you talk to anybody in the monitor manufacturing industry (or just use google), they will tell you how common dead pixels are in monitors. Of course I don't want to justify defects in any product, and that's why I said every other defect in this monitor is unacceptable. But dead pixels are a different story. They are so common that manufacturers won't cover dead pixels under warranty on a new monitor unless it has a certain number (typically at least 5-7). I don't welcome any dead pixels, but I do understand modern panel manufacturing limitations. Many people don't understand this, and I'm only trying to convey the information to those who don't. I'm sure as the manufacturing process improves over time dead pixels will become less common.
Wow! Thanks for this review! I'm just waiting for the Hardware Unboxed video (for the in-depth response time and color accuracy testing) and then I'll make a decision
hi what do you think is better, who's better on colour accuracy and lower level of ghosting between this Gigabyte G34WQC and Samsung g5 odyssey 34 inch 21:9 165 Hz ?( price are about the same in my country)(right now im on LG29 IPS ultrawide 75 Hz and playing upscaling or VSR to ~4k but is has 0 gosting and very good colour even is 3 year old, also do u think you i will notice mabe some ghosting and mabe some worse washed colour from my my LG 29 IPS to those 2 VA above? (I should mentioned that i tryed 2 years ago also some LG 34 inch 144 Hz but at only 2560x 1080 and it's has weird washed bluring colour not good contrast kind a like a fog colour lol and little ghosting to while moving mouse while browseing and i returned him cause my LG 29 wass better lol, Thanks)
I think that the Samsung G5 would *most likely* have better color accuracy, but I can't say for sure because I've never used one. The G34WQC is that it does use a Samsung panel in it, so it could be very similar. One thing I can say from experience is that the colors look really good. There is a bit of ghosting, but IMO it isn't distracting, and I only notice it if I'm actually trying to look for it. But some people think it does have bad ghosting, so I suppose it depends on what you're used to. The best advice that I can give you is to look over the specs of each and watch reviews, and choose whichever one you think will fit your needs the best. Good luck friend!
Thanks friend, I make them myself! You can get them for free on Steam in the Wallpaper Engine workshop. Search "Leif Erikson" my user name if you want them :)
I must say, even though I'm late to the party, given that the upload is about a year old, I found your review to be very informative. You covered a lot of important details. There was nothing gimmicky about your video. It was very straightforward easy to understand. There was no shouting, no over acting and overzealous intent. All those content creators who do the unboxing and video reviews of products, should really watch a video as a crash course on how it should be done.
When i see a review of a product that was damaged in transport or something similar being reviewed as a bad product I just want to slap the person .... you're not reviewing UPS, you don't have a review of the product or any opinion of the product itself so why are you reviewing it ....
That's a very good point. Unfortunately these products are often damaged by poor shipping and handling and are then rated based on how it arrived, not how a fully-functioning sample would perform. Not the fault of the manufacturer, but they get the short end of the stick for it.
Perhaps this is one of the best reviews on the monitor. Thanks! In Russia this monitor is out of stock, but I will wait. If it does not appear, I will take the AOC CU34G2X/BK - this will be the best of the nearest options.
Thanks for the kind words! I hope it becomes available in Russia soon, as it's been a great monitor so far for me. But I hear the AOC isn't bad either. Cheers!
I've been using this monitor for about a month and have very impressed. I'm coming from a Asus ROG pg278q and was interested in giving an ultrawide a try but didn't want to drop a bunch of cash . I mostly game on the PC its hooked up on and I'm glad I picked it up. NO issues in quality and the only thing i've noticed was the screen flicker w/Gsync enabled, but having used it both on and off, it comes up so infrequently it's a non issue. I only wish the height adjusted an inch or two higher. Appreciate the review
You're very welcome for the review, thanks for watching! I'm glad you're loving it as much as I am. Someone gave me a tip that fixed my G-Sync flickering. You have to go into Nvidia control panel and only enable full screen instead of windowed and full screen. I hope it works for you too! Thanks for sharing :)
Hello, I am trying to find a new monitor for me, and I want a ultrawide, this monitor looks really good, but It's hard to decided on which one should I get. Searching a lot and seeing reviews, I am currently choosing between 4 monitors. Gigabyte G34WQC AOC CU34G2X Acer Nitro XZ342CK Acer Nitro XV340CK Appreciate any help!
I can't personally vouch for any of these monitors except for the Gigabyte, since it's the only one I have spent meaningful time using. I will say that the first 3 monitors that you listed all use the same panel from Samsung, so you can expect similar performance from each, just with different UI and features. You can go to this link here to see all the monitors that use this same panel (scroll down to Samsung and see the 34" 3440x1440 144Hz 1500R Curved listing). www.displayninja.com/new-monitors/ The last monitor you listed, the Acer Nitro XV340CK, is the only one that isn't curved, which tends to just be a personal preference. Depending on what you're doing, you may want features like QHD resolution, high refresh rate, or G-Sync/FreeSync compatibility. As long as the monitor you choose has the features that you're looking for and fits in your budget, you can't go wrong! Of course, watching reviews of each can help get an idea of what seems best for you. I hope this helps!
@@BACustomPCs Thank you for the reply! Yeah, the main thing I want, is an ultrawide monitor, 3440x1440, 144hz and a decent MS. I searched a lot about the IPS and VA, and I think I will go with VA, mostly because it's cheaper XD, many IPS monitors is double the price, the only one that i found being cheaper is the Acer Nitro one that i listed. But seeing the reviews, you have to choose, "Want HDR? no 1ms, freesync or 144hz. Want 1ms? deal with annoyingly low brightness and only 120hz. Want Freesync? no 1ms response or hdr." Also i am worried if I am going to notice a big difference, since my current monitor is IPS. But yeah, probably i will choose the Gigabyte G34WQC or AOC CU34G2X.
@@cyberyaya8483 The biggest difference in IPS now days is the color. They used to have low refresh rate, but now, a high refresh rate IPS is going to cost you, as you said. Still, I am impressed with the colors on the Gigabyte model. There are many settings to adjust them how you like. I game on it weekly and have never had an issue that made me regret my purchase, especially at it's price.
@@BACustomPCs dam, that’s nice to hear. Yeah it seems like a good monitor. But everytime I search, I find something against VA panels lmao. Now I am worried about the ghosting/smearing. It seems sometimes is personal preference but idk. Either way, thanks for answering all my questions! Can’t believe you don’t have more subscribers than this! +1 sub :)
Quick Note : flickering can't be Gone even you're HDR OFF OR ON. I have this monitor tried everything No luck. If you're a normally casual gamer i would recommend that monitor. But for competitive try for 16;9 monitor. 21:9 is too big for FPS Games. Cheers for more you ask me
I just use Wallpaper Engine, which is a software on Steam. I think it's like $5 or something. It works great! There are tons of free wallpapers that people make on there. I made the ones in this video, and they're also on there for free.
There is some ghosting but imo it's not too bad. If you're accustomed to little to no ghosting then it may bother you. It's more of a value ultra wide than a performance monitor, but I do enjoy it for gaming.
Im glad for people like you I work in our monitor industry, Ive had some people furious over 1 dead pixel, its so frustrating to explain to them that dead pixels are inevitable that is why there is an ISO standard or ISO 13406-2 to be exact that standardizes the amount of dead pixels before it can be considered for RMA
I'm sure you know from experience then. When manufacturing a product with millions of extremely small pixels, there is a very high chance that a few will become defective. Of course, I understand one's frustration with dead pixels if they don't understand this. But when it comes to 1440p or 4K monitors especially, having a few dead pixels will rarely disrupt immersion or entertainment since the pixels themselves are so tiny. Cheers to you and the monitor industry!
@@BACustomPCs thank you my friend, by the way in PBP mode you need to halve the horizontal resolution to make it fit properly in the monitor, intead of showing two full hd 1080p displays, you need to half the monitor's 3440x1440 resolution. Make it 1720x1440 and aspect ratio to 4:3 hehe
@@doodskie999 Thanks for letting me know! Another commenter said the same thing and that makes complete sense lol. If I do another monitor review I will make sure to use all the helpful tips I've received :)
5:35 Great detailed review. I can see the scrolling of the backlight. does it turn on PWM backlighting when g-sync active? ratings guys said it was pwm flicker free. This shows otherwise.
When I shot this video I had HRD enabled and the wrong displayport version selected in the monitor menu settings (see description for more details). After changing these settings I haven't experienced any G-Sync flickering.
Nice review but are tou sure its 1 ms, in best buy wwbsite it says 4ms, also I am between this and the Acer nitro which is $500 on amazon right now, thanks
That's a good question. I've heard that people doubt this because of the price. I don't have an accurate way of measuring the response time of just the monitor, so I'm going with what Gigabyte says on they're official page for the monitor. When you factor in response time of mouse/keyboard input and GPU altogether, it gets difficult to measure just the monitor without the right tools. I will say that it feels very responsive and there has been no noticeable latency when playing online competitive or FPS games. If I had to guess, I would say that 1ms is most likely a bit of a stretch, but still feels great.
So the MiniJack is just for speakers I assume :) never used a monitor speaker for anything, nice it's there but I think if anyone will use it on daily basis will be around 0.001% of the customers.
Nice video, Industry standards sadly seems to be 1-5 worth 3-8 anymore. Lot of b-rate Samsung panels floating around. This will continue till people stand up and refund to accept it. That being said I have actually only had dead pixels on higher end monitors $300+ over the years and never had a issue with cheaper ones, Monoprice etc. I think around 3-5 monitors share this same panel and those have similar reviews.
Is it possible to split the screen or is it too small for that or does it not have the option? (LG have a 34" screen with this option)...Love this vid. Very well made. :)
It does feature PBP settings so you can split the screen between two inputs. You can see at 10:15 I did this with two 1920x1080 inputs. You could theoretically eliminate the black bars and fill the entire screen by setting a custom resolution for each input to 1720x1440, but I haven't tried it myself. Thanks for watching :)
@@AMortificare No, PBP is built into the monitor. You just need one input per screen via HDMI or Displayport. Can be done from a single graphics card or two separate systems :)
I have this monitor a few munths now and so far i haven't got a single problem, no dead pixels anything the only anoying thing for me is since this is my room the light he produce while turned off is too much at night
Were you able to utilize HDR and 144hz at the same time? I'm testing the G32QC and whenever I'm in 1440p, 165hz (or 120hz), with VRR on, my monitor defaults to 60hz when I turn on HDR in windows. Just curious if you had similar issue? Utilized dp cable that came with the monitor. Great review!
Thanks for watching! HDR will work at 144Hz with this panel, but when HDR is on, Picture Mode is locked on Standard and Black Equalizer is inaccessible. To be honest, HDR does very little, if anything at all, on this 8-bit panel, so I keep it off. Some users have different reports of HDR causing "washed out" colors or just making the colors look brighter. Having HDR on while G-Sync is enabled also causes a slight flicker. Unless the G32QC (or any monitor) is 10-bit color depth or higher, I'd recommend leaving HDR off, as it's really just a marketing gimmick. I'm also using the included DP cable and so far none of the settings have locked me to 60Hz. I hope this helps with your testing, good luck!
Has anyone figured out how to get this monitor to show in Windows 10 as its proper name? There aren't any drivers on the Gigabyte page and it shows in Windows as Generic PnP monitor....
For aim stabilizer, you need to turn off Freesync premium in OSD and can be test in www.testufo.com/ , don't know about Black Equalizer, mine isn't grey out.
Hey good review. I can see that the colours are vibrant and pretty on this monitor. I would be using it with an Ergotron LX monitor arm, which supports up to 34" and 11kg. That said, did you try it with a monitor arm, and how much does the monitor weigh without its included stand? Thanks.
I'm not sure how much it weighs without the stand, but with the stand it weighs 8.5kg, so shave off a kilo or two for the stand. You should be just fine with your monitor arm if it will hold 11kg. I haven't tried it with a monitor arm myself, but that's something I want to do eventually! Thanks for watching :)
Hi, thanks for the advice! With the help of another viewer, I've discovered that they are locked when HDR is enabled in Windows display settings. I have access to them now and all is peachy! Thanks for watching my review :)
What about the Viotek GNV34DBE??? Seems like the same board with similar issues. I am sure the screen is great but I wonder at the power delivery system. Usually these deals are great deals because they cheap out on key components such as the power board, caps or welds...Bad QA and short life spans. I'll spend a bit more on quality so that it lasts...Thank you...Check out the Cooler Master GM34-CW. Better color and better build with proper components. Nothing will drive you nuts like having to send one or two monitors back for defects.
The last thing I want to do is have to send back a monitor bc of cheap components so they can meet a price point. That's my key arguing point when I tell people not to buy a pre-built PC from brands like Omen or CyberPowerPC. I've never heard of the Viotek but have seen the Cooler Master. For all I know, these companies could be using the same panel and just making their own chassis. So far this monitor has been fantastic so I am really happy with it. I will keep everyone up to date with how it's performing as time goes on. Thanks for your input!
i found this monitor for $450. the samsung g5 ultrawide dropped to $450 as well. im between them but not sure which to get. running a ryzen 7 5800x + rx 6900xt
I love this monitor and it's really good for the price (I got it when it was $400). Although I haven't used the G5, I have a feeling that it would be of better quality. That being said, there is a good chance that this monitor and the G5 use the same 3440x1440 panel, as Gigabyte used a Samsung panel in the G34WQC. I'd watch reviews on both and go with the one you think is better. Your hardware is good so you shouldn't have trouble with the ultrawide resolution
sorry to bother you with this, but i tried to enable g-sync as you said in 5:27, the g sync option is just not there ! am using my laptop with RTX 2060 and connect the laptop to the monitor via HDMI, also i enabled free sync in the monitor, any idea whats wrong ?!...
No problem, you aren't a bother! Your G-sync isn't available because HDMI doesn't support adaptive sync. This monitor uses AMD's Freesync, which can be compatible with Nvidia G-Sync (called adaptive-sync) but only if you use a displayport cable.
also sorry not sure if i asked this before, this is my first professional monitor (id like to think of it as so) how do you calibrate the colors or should i simply use the picture profiles and call it a day ?...
@@dronetheworld4k67 It isn't your HDMI ports or cables, it's just because they designed adaptive-sync to only work with displayport. Maybe they will enable it through HDMI someday... But as for the colors, I would just tweak them to your personal liking, or use a preset. If you do work that requires very accurate colors, such as Photoshop or color grading, there are tools for calibrating color accuracy that you can buy, but they cost at least ~$100. I do digital art and graphic design work on this monitor, so to try and make the colors as accurate as possible, I adjusted the color settings until they were similar to my drawing tablet. But if you don't need colors to be very accurate, just pick what looks best to you!
I can't speak for the MSI monitor since I haven't used it, but at a glance, it seems to be of very similar spec and price to the G34WQC. If you're torn between the two, try seeing which one has the features you like the best and go with that one. I can say that the G34WQC has served me very well for over a year as my daily driver, and I am very happy with my purchase.
great review from you but u didnt turned G-Sync on. U have to sign that little box under point 3. that says: "enable settings for the selected display."
Was the flickering in G-Sync compatible mode terrible? According to me, one of the main purpose of getting these feature rich monitors is to be able to use Adaptive sync, because that changes the whole gaming experience quite a bit due to the smoothness. I wouldn't be ok if I had to disable it. So, my purchase decision will heavily depend on this. Could you help me here please?
The flickering was due to having HDR enabled in Windows display settings while also having adaptive sync on. Once I disabled HDR, the flickering has stopped. To be fair, the flickering was very minimal to begin with and unnoticeable while I was gaming. I'd just notice it when in menus and whatnot. Since I turned HDR off (which really is a pointless feature of this monitor to begin with) I've been using G-Sync everyday and it has looked great! Thanks for asking :)
Thank you both of you for clearing my issues been getting that flickering on mine, cant figure out what was I doing wrong. Thank you again for clearing my thoughts good luck great video and review
Thanks for a great review! It's easy to follow and get right to the point. Regarding the PBP, is it possible to change the screen size from 50/50 to 75/25?
It is possible, but PBP only has two options in the monitor settings, those being "full" and "Aspect." "Full" will stretch each input aspect ratio to fill both sides of the screen and "aspect" will use the aspect ratio of each input source. To achieve a 75/25 effect you would need to use the "aspect" setting and set one input resolution to 2580x1440 (for the 75% side) and the other input to 860x1440 (for the 25% side). This can be done by creating a custom resolution for each source in your GPU software, such as Nvidia control panel. Not as easy as some monitors, as they have presets for 75/25 PBP, but it can be done.
wtf I won't buy a monitor with a high risk of gettin one with dead pixels. Maybe I'm extremly lucky, but I had a couple of monitors yet and not one of them had dead pixels. Thats and absolutely no go.
It is extremely common to get dead pixels in monitors, even to the point where many manufacturers' warranties will not replace monitors without a certain amount of pixels being dead (sometimes up to at least 8). I'm assuming that *most* new monitors don't ship with any dead pixels, but it goes to show how common they can be. Nonetheless, that is a completely justified concern to have! Hopefully as manufacturing techniques improve, they will be less common. Although dead pixel are often caused by shipping and handling.
Haha, I was filming on my phone with an anamorphic lens from a company called Moment. In short, it stretches the footage and embeds the black bars by default for a "cinematic" look. I stopped using it after a few videos, but it is pretty neat.
Nice review! I also am considering to buy this monitor. I'm developer so I work mostly with black theme editors like VS code or IntelliJ or console applications, I know that VA panel are prone black smearing. Could some please let me know if the smearing is noticeable when scrolling large text ?
Thanks for watching! I personally don't think the smearing/ghosting is very bad, but some people that have bought this monitor seem to think it is. It gets my by in fast-paced competitive gaming, so I would assume it wouldn't smear too bad for you when just scrolling text. I wish there was a better way to show you, but it's just one of those things that you have to see and decide for yourself.
The reviews that state the power cord was the source of a strange audio buzz. Did they know if it was just the cable itself or something within the monitor housing? A simple power cable swap would solve the former.
That's a great question, unfortunately I didn't ready any reviews that had any additional information that could help diagnose the issue. Best case scenario would be the former, but either way this would be a disappointing issue to have right out of the box. Hopefully Gigabyte has addressed the issue!
Amazing how now days you are encouraged to buy crap. I mean go ahead spend 400 dollars on something you know 100% something is going to be wrong with it LMFAOO. Even if 1 pixel is damaged you're still paying for damaged product.
You definitely can, but I don't know what PS5 support for ultra-wide is like. Worst case scenario, you'd just be locked at 2560x1440p giving you black bars on the sides.
I can only vouch for this monitor since I haven't tried out the MSI one, so I'd just recommend whichever monitor best suits your budget and your needs. Good luck!
Hi! This monitor supports DSC, but it's your type of graphics card that will either have DSC or not. Since this monitor is 3440x1440 @144Hz, DSC is required. If you have a Nvidia 20-series or newer (or one of the new consoles), you should be fine.
I plan on doing a review next month of the FI32U when it released, which is 32" 4K @ 144Hz. If for some reason I can't get ahold of one, I'll consider doing the M28U.
Dead pixels is not common and is not sometthing you should put up with. You should imeediately reutrn it if there is even one dead pixel. Maybe im super lucky but ive neever had a monitor with a dead pixel in my 20 years of buying them.
Great Review and very detailed! One like from me and 1 subscriber! After watching this review i'm more inclined to buy this monitor than Xiaomi Mi Curved 34 or Lenovo G34W-10 which are at the same price level here in Romania (500 dollars) Currently i'm using LG 34UM69G-B IPS 1ms Free-Sync 75Hz 2560*1080 but i think changing to this resolution and 144 hz will change everything in better...not only when playing games but also when browsing because of the smoothness. Also i don't think its a real issue moving back from an IPS to VA. Good Luck and we are waiting for more reviews from you!
Thanks for watching my review and BIG thanks for subbing!! :) Hello to Romania! You do have a nice monitor right now, but I can say myself that going from 1080p to 1440p does make a noticeable difference. Same with going from 75Hz to 144Hz. Good luck to you too, I hope you have a great experience when you do decide to upgrade! Cheers!
If you are still having "menu greyed out" options, disable HDR in windows should resolve that. Finally got mine last night delivered to the local Best Buy store.
I'm new here, watch a lot of reviews. I appreciate your sincerity, level headedness, good product footage, and for not trying to sell it (since lots of people get a cut from sales). liked and subbed.
But thoes this mean you cant play games in hdr without flickering?
@@cornthedun3015 you can play with HDR and G-Sync disabled and there won't be any flickering. But I really don't recommend using HDR with this monitor. It does very little, if anything at all and is more of a marketing label than an actual feature. True HDR is meant for 10-bit color depth or higher screens, this one uses 8-bit. The colors on this monitor already look great to me and can be adjusted to anyone's liking.
@@BACustomPCs so does G-Sync works w/o flickering by disabling HDR? Or it doesnt work at all?
@@str8edge142 G-Sync works without flickering by disabling HDR. At least this has been the case for myself and some others.
Is HDR set to on by default? I was thinking of getting the Xiaomi 34 curved but if this fixes the G-Sync problem I'm going with this Gigabyte monitor.

@@BACustomPCs Thanks. I'll consider that. haha 👍

FINALLY someone goes over pbp and pip mode! Thank you !
I love that you included the Zelda soundtrack in the background.
OoT music is legendary :)
Amazing thank you! I'll buy one thanks to your pro review.

If you have an overhead light near where your gonna place it there is some glare but it's manageable and nowhere near some of the others.
Awesome review. Went a purchased after watching your review. Excellent job, thanks for the help!
I have a IPS monitor right no & 400$ does look pretty affordable but is the VA panel that bad for colors? (current TUF-VG249q)
That gerudo valley legend of zelda music👍👍👌👌
OoT had some of the best music of all time
from 12:20 - 13:00 min, you are explaining how dead pixels are common and they are hard to spot.
Thanks for watching my review! Cheers and good luck on your decision :)

hi what do you think is better, who's better on colour accuracy and lower level of ghosting between this Gigabyte G34WQC and Samsung g5 odyssey 34 inch 21:9 165 Hz ?( price are about the same in my country)(right now im on LG29 IPS ultrawide 75 Hz and playing upscaling or VSR to ~4k but is has 0 gosting and very good colour even is 3 year old, also do u think you i will notice mabe some ghosting and mabe some worse washed colour from my my LG 29 IPS to those 2 VA above?

Hello, I am trying to find a new monitor for me, and I want a ultrawide, this monitor looks really good, but It's hard to decided on which one should I get. Searching a lot and seeing reviews, I am currently choosing between 4 monitors.
Gigabyte G34WQC
AOC CU34G2X
Acer Nitro XZ342CK
Acer Nitro XV340CK
Appreciate any help!
I can't personally vouch for any of these monitors except for the Gigabyte, since it's the only one I have spent meaningful time using. I will say that the first 3 monitors that you listed all use the same panel from Samsung, so you can expect similar performance from each, just with different UI and features. You can go to this link here to see all the monitors that use this same panel (scroll down to Samsung and see the 34" 3440x1440 144Hz 1500R Curved listing).
www.displayninja.com/new-monitors/
The last monitor you listed, the Acer Nitro XV340CK, is the only one that isn't curved, which tends to just be a personal preference.
Want Freesync? no 1ms response or hdr."
Also i am worried if I am going to notice a big difference, since my current monitor is IPS. But yeah, probably i will choose the Gigabyte G34WQC
or AOC CU34G2X.
@@cyberyaya8483 The biggest difference in IPS now days is the color. They used to have low refresh rate, but now, a high refresh rate IPS is going to cost you, as you said. Hi , I mainly play games like overwatch wow, lost ark is there alot of "blur" when moving?
There is some ghosting but imo it's not too bad. If you're accustomed to little to no ghosting then it may bother you. It's more of a value ultra wide than a performance monitor, but I do enjoy it for gaming.
Im glad for people like you
I work in our monitor industry, Ive had some people furious over 1 dead pixel, its so frustrating to explain to them that dead pixels are inevitable that is why there is an ISO standard or ISO 13406-2 to be exact that standardizes the amount of dead pixels before it can be considered for RMA

It's 1ms mprt not gtg. If anything I'd say it's 4ms gtg
You'll see other websites say it's 1ms gtg but don't be fooled. It is indeed mprt, per the gigabyte website

If you have hdr enabled you can’t access those two things you had problems with
Were you able to utilize HDR and 144hz at the same time?
Same thing here, and I have no clue how or if you can rename it. If you figure it out, let us know!
For aim stabilizer, you need to turn off Freesync premium in OSD and can be test in www.testufo.com/ , don't know about Black Equalizer, mine isn't grey out.
Thanks for the info, I'll test it out :)
Now that was a cushty review mate, it totally made my decision to buy this ultra wide monitor a lot easier. Ty! )
Glad it could help, thanks for watching! I hope you enjoy it :)
Good stuff man. Subbed
Hey I believe to use the locked settings you have to disable the gsync or free sync, I am not 100% sure but I think that's the problem.
Is this good for productivity?
I think so! Great for having two apps open on the same screen.
i found this monitor for $450. the samsung g5 ultrawide dropped to $450 as well. im between them but not sure which to get. running a ryzen 7 5800x + rx 6900xt
Hey, not everyone can afford Nvidia. So remember your AMD fans!:) This monitor will be in back in stock in Feb. 5th 2021 on Amazon! YAY
AMD make fantastic products, I've used many of them! Just working with what I have on hand is all lol
sorry to bother you with this, but i tried to enable g-sync as you said in 5:27, the g sync option is just not there ! am using my laptop with RTX 2060 and connect the laptop to the monitor via HDMI, also i enabled free sync in the monitor, any idea whats wrong ?!...
No problem, you aren't a bother! Your G-sync isn't available because HDMI doesn't support adaptive sync. This monitor uses AMD's Freesync, which can be compatible with Nvidia G-Sync (called adaptive-sync) but only if you use a displayport cable.
@@BACustomPCs oh i thought so, weird thought both my monitor and the laptop got HDMI 2.0, anyways no biggy...
also sorry not sure if i asked this before, this is my first professional monitor (id like to think of it as so) how do you calibrate the colors or should i simply use the picture profiles and call it a day ?...
Can give your opinion about this Gigabyte vs the MSI OPTIX MAG342CQR 144hz ?
I can't speak for the MSI monitor since I haven't used it, but at a glance, it seems to be of very similar spec and price to the G34WQC. If you're torn between the two, try seeing which one has the features you like the best and go with that one.
I can say that the G34WQC has served me very well for over a year as my daily driver, and I am very happy with my purchase.
great review from you
but u didnt turned G-Sync on.
U have to sign that little box under point 3. that says: "enable settings for the selected display."
True, you aren't the first person to point this out. Many months ago I fixed this and G-Sync works just fine.
@@BACustomPCs Thanks for the prompt reply!
@@prabhakarbanerjee You're welcome, thanks for asking and watching my review :)
So you recorded it in ultrawide...
But you upload it in 16:9?
Damn son, you're playing with fire
Even if 1 pixel is damaged you're still paying for damaged product.
amazing review. 1 question: Whats the difference between this model and the GS34WQC? which one should i buy?
Can I use PS5 for this?
You definitely can, but I don't know what PS5 support for ultra-wide is like. Worst case scenario, you'd just be locked at 2560x1440p giving you black bars on the sides.
Is this very far from the AW3423DWF? Is the AW3423DWF $500 better? The AW3423DWF is $1k here while the gigabyte is half as much.
I am thinking about getting this monitor or the MSI Optix mpg341cqr which do you think I should get?
I can only vouch for this monitor since I haven't tried out the MSI one, so I'd just recommend whichever monitor best suits your budget and your needs. Good luck!
Hey, I need a fast answer please 😅.
Does this monitor have DSC?
I love this feature, I had it and I can't life it without him.
thank's for now.
Hi! This monitor supports DSC, but it's your type of graphics card that will either have DSC or not. Since this monitor is 3440x1440 @144Hz, DSC is required. If you have a Nvidia 20-series or newer (or one of the new consoles), you should be fine.
Very nice video ! Good format and writing keep up the good work !
Can you please do a video on the new 4k 144hz gigabyte monitor , the M28U.
I plan on doing a review next month of the FI32U when it released, which is 32" 4K @ 144Hz. If for some reason I can't get ahold of one, I'll consider doing the M28U.
I just pre-ordered it. cant wait to receive this monitor.
Sold out everywhere in U.S. I went ahead and pre-ordered from Amazon, but it's supposed to be around another month out.
It sure has been a popular one. Congrats though, I hope you like it when you get it!
great review sir! subbed +1
Thank you so much!!
Dead pixels is not common and is not sometthing you should put up with. You should imeediately reutrn it if there is even one dead pixel. Maybe im super lucky but ive neever had a monitor with a dead pixel in my 20 years of buying them.
Annddd subbed! I’m looking at picking this up for $315 used
Would be a great bargain if it's in good condition!
I opted not to buy this because of the amount of issues and rma process to California. Pass, bought the Acer XV340CK instead
Hello, what changes did you make for color and brightness
I'm running all stock settings in the monitor settings, but in Nvidia control panel I've increased my digital vibrance to 55%. That's about it haha
I'm new here, watch a lot of reviews.
I appreciate your sincerity, level headedness, good product footage, and for not trying to sell it (since lots of people get a cut from sales). liked and subbed.
Thanks very much!
One of the few truly informative vidoes on this monitor, thank you for your sincerity and unbais
Thanks for watching and for the kind words, I'm glad you found it helpful!
Would love to see a review of the similarly spec'ed Acer EI342CKR Pbmiippx when it's avaliable.
me too, i got one from costco
Freaking in love with Zelda! Thanks you included theme from the best game ever!
