This style of wallet has been around since the 80's that I can remember. My $35 real leather wallet I purchased 10 plus years ago, which has gone through several loads in a washing machine and a dryer (by accident) has held up like nothing else. All my leather wallets over the last 30 yrs have. $75, $100, for looks and same function as in other wallets.. just too rich for me.
Not only has the style been around for years, but this style wallet with the same materials (aluminum/carbon fiber/elastic bands) were fairly trendy at one point recently (b/w 5-10 years ago IIRC).
Interested in watching this video, but idk if I'll be upgrading my wallet anytime soon. I've been using the Alpine Swiss RFID Men's wallet for going on six years now and it's still holding up amazingly.
Good review. I'm using a Leatherboss right now which has been ok up until recently when I noticed pushing my CC into it now starts to snag a corner and then slides in crooked, have to pull it out and push it back several time to get it straight. So with that I AM about ready for another 'slim' wallet purchase and thought about the 'ridge', after this review though I'm not sold on that either, money on the outside I'm not really keen on. I had a Big Skinny wallet before this Leatherboss, the problem I find with these slim leather wallets is they only seem to last a year or maybe two before the the stitching starts to fail or whatever. Maybe I'll just buy another Leatherboss, I dunno, I see it's only $10 on Amazon, even though it lasted about 10 months it's kind of hard to argue with the price.
Wallets are one of those thing in my life, that i dont care about if its not broken. Ive been using the same one for over 13 years, its really messed up and sometimes coins fall out if im not carefull, but it still works fine. There is legit no point in buying a new one for 20€ or 100€, till mine falls apart in my hands. Good review though and I get why people like it, but this topic is one of those, where I just dont understand why people care that much. Its just feels like they are solving an issue that isnt there.

I've seen that be a problem in most niches, but the automotive side of RUclips has a lot of actually creator-used products in videos that stay on the car. Never really put that together before until I saw this comment.
Ridge has some quality issues that need to be addressed... The fact it has not been addressed by now is insane. The issue is cards rubbing against each other over time does destroy them. I've replaced my bank cards and credit cards several times and even my I.D. now because of it. I bought a super basic minimalist leather card holder from Vionentus and the difference in quality is huge, not speaking about the price which is 1\5 but the build\finish is better. Just proof that paying more doesn't necessarily mean it's a higher quality.
The wallet fits the AirTag and about 10 cards without any issues. It looks and feels good. I had a Ridge wallet for a few months, and now I can confidently say that Vionentus offers better quality at a cheaper $$

I own one myself. I only carry 8 cards and I can pull out cards faster than my trifold leather wallet. It's because I've kept them in a certain pattern. I absolutely love. It. 125 is a bit steep but I got the forged carbon fiber and I intend to get the carbon fiber one as well just for luxury to myself. :) Overall very comfortable. Feels strong. Very nice.
The embossed card issue isn't minor. It's major. More than half my cards are embossed. That's a deal killer for me and something the makers of the wallet should have thought of.
Some of the knockoffs are better from a price point perspective, quality, and no ugly Ridge Wallet logo. For $15, I'll take the knock off over the Ridge Wallet that is too expensive for what it is and riding on brand name.
I bought a carbon fiber wish knock-off for £4, and although it is just plastic it's been great and would never fork out 20 times the price for a ridge wallet.

I'll save you the trouble, it's just like any other mobile game. If you want a fun mobile MMO that actually has things going for it, check out Unison League. There's a lot of enhancing mechanics and they are slightly pester-y about their mtx, but honestly, with the way that game throws gems at you, you won't even think about spending real money on the game. I haven't spent a penny on that game since I started playing like 3 years ago. Community is super weeby and thirsty though. If you make a female character, prepare for the "Hi"s and "Want to rp"s.
The ridge is like most companies trying to “reinvent the wheel” nowadays. I mean they did an okay job with the wallet, but they did an amazing job when it came to advertising the product. I personally wouldn’t buy because I hate the idea of folding my cash then pulling it out and showing possible theifs my bills.
yup they're like Dyson good at advertising, but their products are heavily over priced for what they are. the shell type lever pushouts are much better. they don't adapt in thickness, but are a treat to use... kinda addictive honestly

The thing is that it is practical for the right person. For example I only have 4 cards and that is counting my ID and 99% of the time I am only using one card and I don't carry cash. For me something like this would work decently well. . I pretty much generally have one larger bill tucked away for emergency(actually hidden in my keychain) That said I would never spend 75 dollars on a wallet. The knock off ones though are looking somewhat appealing.
@@MaethorDerien Exact reason I got a Ridge Wallet, I have 3 cards in it, my work badge to get into the building I never use, my ID, and me credit card, the one I use most days is my credit card which sits on top and after that is my id both which slip out quick and get put back just as easy. I needed something slim I can throw in my front pocket and the Ridge wallet was perfect for that.

Traditional billfold wallets were popular when cash was the only way to make a transaction. That time has passed so new styles of wallets have risen as valid options. I don't see in any way shape or form how that's something to complain about or to hate. I nabbed my ridge on a good discount & I'll likely never go back to a billfold. It just doesn't make sense with what I need a wallet to do.

I've had a cheap "leather" wallet for 22 years and I wouldn't spend 15 bucks on a damn wallet. And I'd never clip my cash on the outside for everyone else to see and then as a bonus I can hunt for my cards.
I got a leather wallet from my mom back in the day and I'am still using it 15 years later. Heck, the semi see through inside flap pockets are great when I need to flash a card into a reader without taking out the pocket. Would be a great feature for something that is designed only to store cards but, what do I know...
This is why I went with Ekster. While ridge has the option for carbon or titanium (nice), Eksters main body easily holds up to six cards if only one is embossed, and these six are instantly fanned out with the press of a button. The side expansion will easily hold another 10+. You could probably hold 20 cards with the thing, with the six most commonly used available fanned with the push of a button.
Ekster is underrated bro. I mean yea it doesn’t look as nice but it’s definitely perfected the multi-card design, plus it’s easy to find with the tracker
I used Ekster for years, I was one of the og kickstarters. I bought a Ridge wallet, I am not impressed. I went back to Ekster, but I don't use their trackers since I use tile. The only reason I use tile because everything else edc wise has tile trackers.
I have been using my ekster for years now, no problems whatsoever. I now received my ridge, I bought it because the kit with the key holder and coin holder was discounted. Having put everything in it felt awkward in comparison tot the ekster.. so I started looking up some reviews, to see if I was trying to get my cards out the wrong way.. 😅 I'm gonna give it some time, but I'm in serious doubt. @@Faolan_Grey Bro, You drank the koolaid, this material science was known about in the late 1800s when they mastered machine lathes and milling machines. The only difference is the carbon fiber which is purchased in large sheets of the correct width and stamped into the right shape and then cleaned up on deburring machine, it's the same thing with the titanium, these wallets cost about 10$ to make and that's probably only if it includes exotic materials, the mark up for the exotic materials is like 30$. This product is an absolute ripoff and quite frankly useless. I keep thick bifold wallet with a driver's licence window in my back pocket usually, depending on the pants I wear I take it out while driving, depends if it has enough room far enough over to get into that sweet spot where it's not directly under the weightiest part of my buttcheek but not often other than that, even though this one is much slimmer than a regular wallet it has no give, it'll be the same level of annoyance just of a different variety. This is peak first world problems here, paying 120$ USD which is like 160 CAD or more where I am in order to kind of solve a kind of issue at the expense of functionality, that's more money than some people get per year. I know that's a really obtuse statement but this thing is just so stupid, anyways that's my rant for now. Edit: I meant to say per month because people in poverty in Central America in a rough spot might not even make 100$ a month. In some places in the world people don't even make a dollar a day but obviously this is an obtuse factoid to throw in when discussing buying habits of people in the first world who even in poverty make 18K per year. Also there are more slaves in the world today than at any other point in history, many of them are children and many are forced to work for scraps of food but the real incentive is the water which they don't get if they meet their quote of bricks that make out of mud, clay and water that they sit out under the hot sun making with a wooden mould. Should they fail their quote, all they've got to drink is the muddy water that's been mixed in to make the mud. My point being that these people don't actually make enough in a year to buy this wallet.

It's not just embossed. New chip cards are coarse and scratch the other cards when in this type of wallet. I'm glad I didn't blow $70 on one to find that out...
Weirdly enough. Bank of America recently changed their debit card designs to not be embossed anymore and now their debit cards look exactly like their credit cards. I have a feeling they got some complaints from Ridge Wallet users and Bank of America agreed to a design change.

@@TiagrajI It seems like you can put your card in the first position any time. For me, this is a really good product (not saying ridge exactly, due to its price, but a wallet of this form). I carry 1-2 banknotes (for hairdresser's and a couple other places that only take cash where I live), other than that I have 1 credit card that I use, the rest of my wallet is for different ID cards that barely matter and I rarely ever need them, but it's always good to have them because you never know, for example if you need to go to the hospital for an emergency, your social security card is useful to have. Since I can choose to put my credit card on top and that's the only card i frequently use, this type of wallet is pretty much made for me.

@@WHDRWN bullshit, all premium cards got rid of embossing years ago and don't even display the card number on the fronts at all. embossing is a relic of when cards were first introduced and imprinters were used to accept them. these days shops rarely even have imprinters anymore, nor staff trained to use them, as they're only useful during network or power outages.
I have a Destiny 2 wallet from gamestop when it first came out. Had the collector's edition, as well as the wallet, a shirt, and a few other items ordered. It has held up for years since.
I have a twofold wallet and honestly i don't know if i can ever use this type of "wallets" / card holders. Even with 5 cards, id, and some cash in it, my twofold doesn't get that big. Also where do you get to keep your coins. There's no way you will always have the exact amount of money for your purchases!
been using a similar product for about 3 years now (no cash clip. so just cards). I carry my most important cards with me (4 cards) and so far had no regrets or problems. my normal wallet still sits in my car in case i need some coin for a parking meter or to wash my car. other than that i never carry it around with me
Most people rarely use cash so there is no need to store coins or much cash besides perhaps an emergency bill. That said I have been looking at slim wallet replacements because my wallet is like 15 years old and looked at these because I only have 3 cards and an ID so my wallet doesn't need a lot of room. That said I think a slim bifold wallet is just as minimal to be honest. The only difference is that these look nice and unique to be honest.
Yeah, Ridge just does not bring enough advantage to the table to justify the price, especially in comparison to the less expensive alternatives which still bring in profits while being inexpensive, hinting that ridge is even more overpriced.
Generally its my rule of thumb to steer clear of youtuber sponsored products like ridge, raycon, mobile games, VPNs, and whatnot. Usually its pretty overpriced stuff being marketed through content creators. I am guilty of buying into the stuff. Got me a pair of raycons that were terrible and also got me a couple g fuel tubs (only got them with a 30% off code and not a 10%) which was a good buy imo
@@jenbooob I've seen reviews on the raycons, they seem to be wayyy overpriced and don't have the "premium sound" they promise, just seems like the ghost of Beats by Dre trying to make something. If you really want a good deal(stolen from Dankpods) you should get some Taotronics Soundliberty 79's or if you don't mind wired some KZ ZSN's they really do sound MUCH better than the raycons, and the Taotronics cost about half the price, have better quality, longer battery life and the KZ's sound amazing.
Yeah looking at their website right now the cheapest ones cost 95$. I just don't think they're worth the price points. Yes, it is. NEVER flash cash. If you can, go plastic - debit cards work great and just about all banks and check cashing services offer several different types. Myself, I have 2. One for my checking account, and another 'pre-paid' one that I use for online purchases. I normally leave less than $10.00 USD on the pre-paid card, so if someone does try and clean me out, they won't get much. I just stop short of clicking the 'submit' or 'confirm' order button and move just what is needed to cover the charge to that card. Once confirmed it's just a quick click and I'm good to go with my checking account still safe. Since my phone has my bank's app on it, I often find myself doing that at retailers, as well.
the thing for me about those types of wallets when you're carrying cash is its always awkward if you have sort of a mix of different bills and have to basically pull all your cash out right on the spot so you can sort out the bills you need to hand over. I have a very basic wallet not thin or anything but any time im paying with cash its nice to just sort of be able to peek into my wallet and see the bills i need and pull them out instead of pulling all of them out at once. I also have a few cards, about 6 in total, all of which are embossed. Im not sure. its an intriguing wallet without a doubt but yeah i still frequently use cash especially with smaller purchases. i am slightly interested in the cheaper knock off ones just because i feel like spending 60-100 dollars for a wallet is unnecessary. If its a 20-30 dollar wallet i dont have too much remorse if i dont like it and i dont have to go through the hassle of packaging it back up and sending it back cuz its like.. its 20 bucks who cares.
My father uses a more bulkier system for his items. Its like a small clip on bag where he can easily fit in a thin wallet and a separate dedicated card holder while having space in center or front for loose change. It gives the flexibility of only pulling out cards or only cash as needed. If his phone were an inch and a half shorter, he could also fit his phone in it.
I think I will stick with a traditional style wallet for many reasons. Mine cost £25 and has lasted nearly 4 years (it's not leather either), it holds change, my notes are safer inside a wallet as opposed to held by a small strap or clip on the outside, it has cost me nothing to fix as the only part that went was the popper that holds it together and I just glued it back together with some glue I had knocking around the house and it's also easier to find my cards and I hate faffing around in shops.
I'm honestly surprised more people aren't mentioning the fact that it can't hold change that would just make me feel unsafe and it'd probably be more difficult to sift through your money cause you kinda have to fold it as opposed to just grabbing the money you need in the wallet

Yeah I'm 37 and I think on my 3rd leather wallet? And #2 actually had many years of life left in it, I just decided to change away from the tri-fold to a bi-fold (I still use it for certain things, just not my daily money carry).
The Ridge Wallet is too expensive. It's a waste of money. I've been using a slim, minimalist faux-leather wallet that holds all of my cards and has a clear spot for my driver's license. I've had it for at least 3 years now and it's held up really well. It was like $15 on Amazon. I didn't have to pay $75 and it's not a bulky tri-fold wallet.

It's slightly longer than a Ridge wallet, but it so much lighter and is actually quite durable for $8. I love it for a minimalist wallet
I have a Secrid wallet, it's basically a hybrid: a combination of a leather wallet and a card holder like the Ridge. It's the best wallet I've ever owned by a mile.
And it also comes in twin variants for those who carry every card with em, for those wondering it is a metal case, top fed with a staggered ejector at the bottom, quick pull of the release lever brings the tops of the cards out so you can see each one and let’s you easily select the one you want.
Only if you have to carry a lot of cash around. Because it can not hold more than a few bills, but nowadays, even in my country, most transactions ocurre online or with credit cards, and for that it's amazing
The one time somebody tried to rob me it was a homeless bum with a knife. I made a big show of slowly reaching for my wallet and pulled out a snub .38 instead: he decided that he had better things to be doing and we went our separate ways.
A leather wallet is soft, conforms and shapes to your body. I can't imagine how uncomfortable this metal box would be. You sure wouldn't want to drive for any length of with that thing in your back pocket.
Leather is comfortable if it isn't too bulky, which tend to happen with those that carry tons of cards. The funny thing is, a "ridge leather wallet" already exist. I forgot what it is but the concept is the same really, it all amounts to cutting off corners of the wallet. It all depends on what you are willing to trade off. Some are willing to trade most of their wallet design for barebones like the ridge wallet. I for one am not willing to give up the practicality of many pockets for minimalist small design.
I carry a 357 in the six-o-clock position a lot of the time and I don't think a wallet made out of a sea urchin could be less comfortable than that after 6-8 hours.

If you just put your most commonly used cards on top, the memorization technique still applies. You just need to train with it so you know where they are in the stack. I'd imagine a stack of 15 cards would give anyone trouble finding the lesser used ones though, regardless of where you put them
while i havnt used the redge wallet i have a Miniwallet from secrid. it holds 4-6 cards that you can push up, when you do so they "fan out" so you easily can pick the card you want. it also has room for 4 cards inside the leather exterior. if you are thinking of buying something like the ridge go look at the wallets secrid have as they have 5 different wallets to suit your needs. also i love your reveiws
Funny you say that. I’ve been eyeing Secrid wallets for a while now. I like the push feature. But I hear an issue with these push wallets is over time they can end up loose. Do you experience that?
@@JimmyTriesWorld i have had mine for a bit over a year now and while it might be more loose then it was at the start (cant really tell without getting a new one) i haven't had problems with cards falling out (unless i do a flick with the wrist while pushing the cards up).

I currently have 2 Secrid wallets, one that is bare and the other one with a leather sleeve. The eldest is a little over 5 years and is still working fine as a backup in the drawer. The leather one is just great for having more than 6 cards and some cash and in my opinion looks a lot more classy. Also for some RFID cards that you use quite often but do not contain harmful info (such as the access card of the gym) it is nice that you can put it on the outside. Update: I've had mine for about 2-months now. Overall I like it. It took me alittle while to organize the way I like it. I'm a lefty, so I had to figure out a good configuration for that as well. If it's worth it, is up to each person. I like it though. No damage to my cards btw.
I don’t think this comparison is valid if you’ve only ever owned low-quality leather wallets. I have a good-quality leather wallet. It is well-designed, compact, convenient to use and has lasted a long time.
Yeah that is what I was thinking I have had this old leather wallet with a metal Alabama A recessed into the front of it for about 4 years. The worst damage that it had received is I accidentally left it in my pants and washed it which left it in a lighter shade of brown but honestly it is like having a new wallet. My dad switched to the titanium ridge wallet and he does not like it
Agreed. I've owned plenty of cheap "leather" wallets, the kind you see with your favorite game or superhero on them. And they're all terrible, well worn after 2 years and falling apart after 4. In contrast my current wallet is genuine leather, high quality, and still looks great after 4 years of everyday use. I likely still be using it next decade. For those interested I have a Nocona brand wallet.
I don't get the idea of that thing replacing my wallet. I have coins in my wallet. When I go buy groceries and pay with cash, where do I put the change? Coins won't fit in it. Ridge wallet might bei cool If you pay with Card only but as a replacement for a normal, everyday wallet? Never.
Having an ID window is a must for me so I don't have to take it out everytime I want to prove my age. If it wasn't for that I'd actually seriously consider a Ridge

I found one of these on the side of the road once(no cards inside). I started using it after cleaning it thoroughly, and at first it was cool. But then after a few weeks I started to notice lots of wear on my cards. Anyways, I got tired of it and put it up for sale on Facebook. Low and behold the previous owner recognized it, named the area I found it. So I gave it right back to him. I got a free trail, and he got his expensive wallet back.
Thank you for this review! Saved me from being tempted. The utility and hampered quick access to the cards is a deal breaker for me. At the end of the day, your cards are just sandwiched between 2 metal plates with no difference conceptually than using a rubber band. 🤷🏾♂️

Exactly... At this point, if you don’t like the classic wallet, then make everything digital. But having to shuffle through cards like a deck of cards is not cool. And having to sort of jam the cards back in there makes no sense.
They sponsored me on twitch like 2 years back, got a free wallet and a chunk of money, still use it today but to be honest I wouldn’t pay for one, my bank card is fucked up because of the raised text and card numbers on it. It’s a bit tricky to get the card you want out if you have more than like 4 cards in it. I think the main quality of the wallet is just the fact it’s so slim. Biggest drawback for me is that I can’t hold cash like a traditional wallet

For real dude? I've owned 2 wallets over the past 30 years. They were like 20-30 bucks each. They also have the added feature of holding cash and receipts. It also provides me with the ability to flash my ID without having to remove it. This thing is bad for embossed cards? Soooooo, it's bad for any card that I'd use to buy stuff? Also, if you use a key card to access your office building, parking garage, etcetera, you can put that in your leather wallet (provided you don't sandwich it in between other cards) and BOOM! Your wallet is now a key fob. No chance this $130 metal thing will do that. You'd use this metal thing for some cards, a money clip for your cash and your access cards can just float around awkwardly in your pockets. Or, I guess you can fumble around with them every time you need access. The more I think this through, the more I think you might need to buy a purse to carry around all this stuff. Good review though, man. Love your channel. I'll be keeping my leather wallet though (opposite my pocket watch, of course.)
My wallet is a Packsafe Bifold wallet, it has a RFID protection and it has a ring where i can latch my keycard/ID outside so it can hang there when I am in the office then after work flip it over and sandwich the wallet boom! Problem solve. I carry 4 credit cards, 2 keycard for the office, 3 government issued ID and cash and it still has room for receipts and micro sd card keeper / sim tool which I use occasionally can the Ridge do that?
The fact that your wallet can act as a "key fob" is actually a security hole. Anyone can walk by you with a portable scanner and pull the information from your wallet, and create a new card impersonating you and entering your workplace. Sure it's more convenient. But it's less secure. Having the card between metal is better security.

Seems like a good honest review. I’ve been on the fence about ordering the Ridge wallet, but I’m doing it. Side note: The official Ridge website states their wallets are designed to hold 1-12 cards, not 15.

those metallic bits of trash people give you with your bills sometimes? I throw those in the garbage where they belong. I hate when people give me their trash to dispose of but fortunately all stores seem to have trash cans in front of them.
So, the three knock-offs cost less than a single ridge wallet and the only trade off is that you have to manually bend a clip and that the edges aren't as nice? Yeah, ridge is a novelty product at this point. Anyone that buys one either has more money than sense or REALLY hates manual clips (most clips are manual...).
I have this wallet, most of my cards are embossed, it's a non-issue. Additionally the guy in the video didn't read the manual. You don't push the cards out and then manually fan them horizontally. You push the cards up and squeeze the 2 plates together, this forces the cards out further and they then fan out themselves allowing you to select one. Embossed cards actually aid this fanning effect. (Admittedly if you have short nails and a lot of cards it can occasionally be a little awkward to grab one from the middle). Also you can adjust the screws to slacken the elastic, allowing you to have the correct tension for the amount of cards you want to fit in it.

You should take the time to check it's correct usage before you make a video review. One could say 'it shouldn't need a manual' about anything. But if that thing is a significant change or attempt at innovation from the normal then it's simply not true. My underwear came with something similar and if I wasn't going to take the time to read it, I should have just bought ordinary underwear. But I did and I'm glad I did because these are the best underwear I've ever worn.
Stop calling these thing a wallet, is nothing more than just a glorified card holder. Wallet is something where you can hold a substantial amount of cash note + cards.
So by your definition the ridge wallet is a wallet. In cane hold up to 15 cards, that's a substantial amount in my books, and it can basically hold an unlimited amount of cash notes.

This style of wallet has been around since the 80's that I can remember. My $35 real leather wallet I purchased 10 plus years ago, which has gone through several loads in a washing machine and a dryer (by accident) has held up like nothing else. All my leather wallets over the last 30 yrs have. $75, $100, for looks and same function as in other wallets.. just too rich for me.
Not only has the style been around for years, but this style wallet with the same materials (aluminum/carbon fiber/elastic bands) were fairly trendy at one point recently (b/w 5-10 years ago IIRC).
Honestly, the thing that goes first on the leather wallets is the snap on the front. Serious, replace that with a buckle and they’d last forever.

I'm using a Leatherboss right now which has been ok up until recently when I noticed pushing my CC into it now starts to snag a corner and then slides in crooked, have to pull it out and push it back several time to get it straight. So with that I AM about ready for another 'slim' wallet purchase and thought about the 'ridge', after this review though I'm not sold on that either, money on the outside I'm not really keen on. I had a Big Skinny wallet before this Leatherboss, the problem I find with these slim leather wallets is they only seem to last a year or maybe two before the the stitching starts to fail or whatever. Maybe I'll just buy another Leatherboss, I dunno, I see it's only $10 on Amazon, even though it lasted about 10 months it's kind of hard to argue with the price.
Wallets are one of those thing in my life, that i dont care about if its not broken. Ive been using the same one for over 13 years, its really messed up and sometimes coins fall out if im not carefull, but it still works fine. There is legit no point in buying a new one for 20€ or 100€, till mine falls apart in my hands.

Ridge has some quality issues that need to be addressed... The fact it has not been addressed by now is insane. The issue is cards rubbing against each other over time does destroy them. I've replaced my bank cards and credit cards several times and even my I.D. now because of it. I bought a super basic minimalist leather card holder from Vionentus and the difference in quality is huge, not speaking about the price which is 1\5 but the build\finish is better. Just proof that paying more doesn't necessarily mean it's a higher quality.

I own one myself. I only carry 8 cards and I can pull out cards faster than my trifold leather wallet. It's because I've kept them in a certain pattern. I absolutely love. It. 125 is a bit steep but I got the forged carbon fiber and I intend to get the carbon fiber one as well just for luxury to myself. :) Overall very comfortable. Feels strong. Very nice.

The embossed card issue isn't minor. It's major. More than half my cards are embossed. That's a deal killer for me and something the makers of the wallet should have thought of.

There's a lot of enhancing mechanics and they are slightly pester-y about their mtx, but honestly, with the way that game throws gems at you, you won't even think about spending real money on the game. The ridge is like most companies trying to “reinvent the wheel” nowadays.
I mean they did an okay job with the wallet, but they did an amazing job when it came to advertising the product. I personally wouldn’t buy because I hate the idea of folding my cash then pulling it out and showing possible theifs my bills.

The thing is that it is practical for the right person. For example I only have 4 cards and that is counting my ID and 99% of the time I am only using one card and I don't carry cash. For me something like this would work decently well. . I pretty much generally have one larger bill tucked away for emergency(actually hidden in my keychain) That said I would never spend 75 dollars on a wallet. The knock off ones though are looking somewhat appealing.
It's way more practical for. It's more comfortable, smaller and I can get cards in and out quicker.
@@MaethorDerien Exact reason I got a Ridge Wallet, I have 3 cards in it, my work badge to get into the building I never use, my ID, and me credit card, the one I use most days is my credit card which sits on top and after that is my id both which slip out quick and get put back just as easy. I needed something slim I can throw in my front pocket and the Ridge wallet was perfect for that.

Traditional billfold wallets were popular when cash was the only way to make a transaction. That time has passed so new styles of wallets have risen as valid options. I don't see in any way shape or form how that's something to complain about or to hate.
I nabbed my ridge on a good discount & I'll likely never go back to a billfold. It just doesn't make sense with what I need a wallet to do.

Heck, the semi see through inside flap pockets are great when I need to flash a card into a reader without taking out the pocket. This is why I went with Ekster. While ridge has the option for carbon or titanium (nice), Eksters main body easily holds up to six cards if only one is embossed, and these six are instantly fanned out with the press of a button. The side expansion will easily hold another 10+. You could probably hold 20 cards with the thing, with the six most commonly used available fanned with the push of a button.
Ekster is underrated bro. I mean yea it doesn’t look as nice but it’s definitely perfected the multi-card design, plus it’s easy to find with the tracker
I used Ekster for years, I was one of the og kickstarters. I bought a Ridge wallet, I am not impressed. I went back to Ekster, but I don't use their trackers since I use tile. The only reason I use tile because everything else edc wise has tile trackers.

@@Faolan_Grey Bro, You drank the koolaid, this material science was known about in the late 1800s when they mastered machine lathes and milling machines. The only difference is the carbon fiber which is purchased in large sheets of the correct width and stamped into the right shape and then cleaned up on deburring machine, it's the same thing with the titanium, these wallets cost about 10$ to make and that's probably only if it includes exotic materials, the mark up for the exotic materials is like 30$. This product is an absolute ripoff and quite frankly useless. I keep thick bifold wallet with a driver's licence window in my back pocket usually, depending on the pants I wear I take it out while driving, depends if it has enough room far enough over to get into that sweet spot where it's not directly under the weightiest part of my buttcheek but not often other than that, even though this one is much slimmer than a regular wallet it has no give, it'll be the same level of annoyance just of a different variety. This is peak first world problems here, paying 120$ USD which is like 160 CAD or more where I am in order to kind of solve a kind of issue at the expense of functionality, that's more money than some people get per year. I know that's a really obtuse statement but this thing is just so stupid, anyways that's my rant for now.
Edit: I meant to say per month because people in poverty in Central America in a rough spot might not even make 100$ a month. In some places in the world people don't even make a dollar a day but obviously this is an obtuse factoid to throw in when discussing buying habits of people in the first world who even in poverty make 18K per year. Also there are more slaves in the world today than at any other point in history, many of them are children and many are forced to work for scraps of food but the real incentive is the water which they don't get if they meet their quote of bricks that make out of mud, clay and water that they sit out under the hot sun making with a wooden mould. Should they fail their quote, all they've got to drink is the muddy water that's been mixed in to make the mud. It's not just embossed. New chip cards are coarse and scratch the other cards when in this type of wallet. I'm glad I didn't blow $70 on one to find that out...
Weirdly enough. Bank of America recently changed their debit card designs to not be embossed anymore and now their debit cards look exactly like their credit cards. I have a feeling they got some complaints from Ridge Wallet users and Bank of America agreed to a design change.

Yeah, you're supposed to be able to pinch the bottom to make the cards split apart at the top, but I just keep the 3 I use most on top. It's not hard to keep them in order either, so you know where they are.

I carry 1-2 banknotes (for hairdresser's and a couple other places that only take cash where I live), other than that I have 1 credit card that I use, the rest of my wallet is for different ID cards that barely matter and I rarely ever need them, but it's always good to have them because you never know, for example if you need to go to the hospital for an emergency, your social security card is useful to have.
Since I can choose to put my credit card on top and that's the only card i frequently use, this type of wallet is pretty much made for me.
These wallets are the true definition of how clever marketing can sell an overpriced and basically useless product.

And while they probably get a decent amount of RUclips money, that alone most likely wouldn't cover their expenses. Plus when they have sponsors they're independent from Google.

I have a Destiny 2 wallet from gamestop when it first came out. Had the collector's edition, as well as the wallet, a shirt, and a few other items ordered. It has held up for years since.
I have a twofold wallet and honestly i don't know if i can ever use this type of "wallets" / card holders.
Even with 5 cards, id, and some cash in it, my twofold doesn't get that big.

been using a similar product for about 3 years now (no cash clip. so just cards). I carry my most important cards with me (4 cards) and so far had no regrets or problems. my normal wallet still sits in my car in case i need some coin for a parking meter or to wash my car. other than that i never carry it around with me
Most people rarely use cash so there is no need to store coins or much cash besides perhaps an emergency bill. That said I have been looking at slim wallet replacements because my wallet is like 15 years old and looked at these because I only have 3 cards and an ID so my wallet doesn't need a lot of room. That said I think a slim bifold wallet is just as minimal to be honest. The only difference is that these look nice and unique to be honest.

Generally its my rule of thumb to steer clear of youtuber sponsored products like ridge, raycon, mobile games, VPNs, and whatnot. Usually its pretty overpriced stuff being marketed through content creators. I am guilty of buying into the stuff. Got me a pair of raycons that were terrible and also got me a couple g fuel tubs (only got them with a 30% off code and not a 10%) which was a good buy imo

If you really want a good deal(stolen from Dankpods) you should get some Taotronics Soundliberty 79's or if you don't mind wired some KZ ZSN's they really do sound MUCH better than the raycons, and the Taotronics cost about half the price, have better quality, longer battery life and the KZ's sound amazing.

Myself, I have 2. One for my checking account, and another 'pre-paid' one that I use for online purchases. I normally leave less than $10.00 USD on the pre-paid card, so if someone does try and clean me out, they won't get much. I just stop short of clicking the 'submit' or 'confirm' order button and move just what is needed to cover the charge to that card. Once confirmed it's just a quick click and I'm good to go with my checking account still safe. Since my phone has my bank's app on it, I often find myself doing that at retailers, as well.

the thing for me about those types of wallets when you're carrying cash is its always awkward if you have sort of a mix of different bills and have to basically pull all your cash out right on the spot so you can sort out the bills you need to hand over.
I have a very basic wallet not thin or anything but any time im paying with cash its nice to just sort of be able to peek into my wallet and see the bills i need and pull them out instead of pulling all of them out at once.
I also have a few cards, about 6 in total, all of which are embossed. Im not sure. its an intriguing wallet without a doubt but yeah i still frequently use cash especially with smaller purchases. i am slightly interested in the cheaper knock off ones just because i feel like spending 60-100 dollars for a wallet is unnecessary. If its a 20-30 dollar wallet i dont have too much remorse if i dont like it and i dont have to go through the hassle of packaging it back up and sending it back cuz its like.. its 20 bucks who cares.
My father uses a more bulkier system for his items. Its like a small clip on bag where he can easily fit in a thin wallet and a separate dedicated card holder while having space in center or front for loose change. It gives the flexibility of only pulling out cards or only cash as needed. If his phone were an inch and a half shorter, he could also fit his phone in it.

I actually used that wallet for like 2 years straight before I realized just how annoyingly bulky it was.
I think I will stick with a traditional style wallet for many reasons. Mine cost £25 and has lasted nearly 4 years (it's not leather either), it holds change, my notes are safer inside a wallet as opposed to held by a small strap or clip on the outside, it has cost me nothing to fix as the only part that went was the popper that holds it together and I just glued it back together with some glue I had knocking around the house and it's also easier to find my cards and I hate faffing around in shops.
I'm honestly surprised more people aren't mentioning the fact that it can't hold change that would just make me feel unsafe and it'd probably be more difficult to sift through your money cause you kinda have to fold it as opposed to just grabbing the money you need in the wallet

The Ridge Wallet is too expensive. It's a waste of money. I've been using a slim, minimalist faux-leather wallet that holds all of my cards and has a clear spot for my driver's license. I've had it for at least 3 years now and it's held up really well. It was like $15 on Amazon. I didn't have to pay $75 and it's not a bulky tri-fold wallet.

I have a Secrid wallet, it's basically a hybrid: a combination of a leather wallet and a card holder like the Ridge. It's the best wallet I've ever owned by a mile.
You can also have it without leather part and picking right card is much easier than with the Ridge
And it also comes in twin variants for those who carry every card with em, for those wondering it is a metal case, top fed with a staggered ejector at the bottom, quick pull of the release lever brings the tops of the cards out so you can see each one and let’s you easily select the one you want.

A leather wallet is soft, conforms and shapes to your body. I can't imagine how uncomfortable this metal box would be. You sure wouldn't want to drive for any length of with that thing in your back pocket.
Leather is comfortable if it isn't too bulky, which tend to happen with those that carry tons of cards. The funny thing is, a "ridge leather wallet" already exist. I forgot what it is but the concept is the same really, it all amounts to cutting off corners of the wallet.
It all depends on what you are willing to trade off. Some are willing to trade most of their wallet design for barebones like the ridge wallet. I for one am not willing to give up the practicality of many pockets for minimalist small design.

If you just put your most commonly used cards on top, the memorization technique still applies. You just need to train with it so you know where they are in the stack. I'd imagine a stack of 15 cards would give anyone trouble finding the lesser used ones though, regardless of where you put them
while i havnt used the redge wallet i have a Miniwallet from secrid. it holds 4-6 cards that you can push up, when you do so they "fan out" so you easily can pick the card you want. it also has room for 4 cards inside the leather exterior. if you are thinking of buying something like the ridge go look at the wallets secrid have as they have 5 different wallets to suit your needs. also i love your reveiws
Funny you say that. I’ve been eyeing Secrid wallets for a while now. I like the push feature. But I hear an issue with these push wallets is over time they can end up loose. Do you experience that?

I currently have 2 Secrid wallets, one that is bare and the other one with a leather sleeve. The eldest is a little over 5 years and is still working fine as a backup in the drawer. The leather one is just great for having more than 6 cards and some cash and in my opinion looks a lot more classy. Also for some RFID cards that you use quite often but do not contain harmful info (such as the access card of the gym) it is nice that you can put it on the outside. This way you don't have to pull that one out every time. And by the way, they are nowhere near as overpriced as the Ridge wallet. At least not where I live

Update: I've had mine for about 2-months now. Overall I like it. It took me alittle while to organize the way I like it. I'm a lefty, so I had to figure out a good configuration for that as well. If it's worth it, is up to each person. I like it though. No damage to my cards btw.

The worst damage that it had received is I accidentally left it in my pants and washed it which left it in a lighter shade of brown but honestly it is like having a new wallet. Agreed. I've owned plenty of cheap "leather" wallets, the kind you see with your favorite game or superhero on them. And they're all terrible, well worn after 2 years and falling apart after 4. In contrast my current wallet is genuine leather, high quality, and still looks great after 4 years of everyday use. I likely still be using it next decade. But then after a few weeks I started to notice lots of wear on my cards. Anyways, I got tired of it and put it up for sale on Facebook. Low and behold the previous owner recognized it, named the area I found it. So I gave it right back to him. I got a free trail, and he got his expensive wallet back.

Thank you for this review! Saved me from being tempted. The utility and hampered quick access to the cards is a deal breaker for me. At the end of the day, your cards are just sandwiched between 2 metal plates with no difference conceptually than using a rubber band. 🤷🏾♂️

Exactly... At this point, if you don’t like the classic wallet, then make everything digital. But having to shuffle through cards like a deck of cards is not cool. And having to sort of jam the cards back in there makes no sense.

Huh, if you used the machine regularly, they should change the price so you can pay using a bill. Drinks in vending machines usually cost RM1 or RM2 so we don't get any change.
For real dude? I've owned 2 wallets over the past 30 years. They were like 20-30 bucks each. They also have the added feature of holding cash and receipts. It also provides me with the ability to flash my ID without having to remove it.
This thing is bad for embossed cards? Soooooo, it's bad for any card that I'd use to buy stuff?
Also, if you use a key card to access your office building, parking garage, etcetera, you can put that in your leather wallet (provided you don't sandwich it in between other cards) and BOOM! Your wallet is now a key fob. No chance this $130 metal thing will do that.
You'd use this metal thing for some cards, a money clip for your cash and your access cards can just float around awkwardly in your pockets. Or, I guess you can fumble around with them every time you need access. The more I think this through, the more I think you might need to buy a purse to carry around all this stuff.

My wallet is a Packsafe Bifold wallet, it has a RFID protection and it has a ring where i can latch my keycard/ID outside so it can hang there when I am in the office then after work flip it over and sandwich the wallet boom! Problem solve. I carry 4 credit cards, 2 keycard for the office, 3 government issued ID and cash and it still has room for receipts and micro sd card keeper / sim tool which I use occasionally can the Ridge do that?
The fact that your wallet can act as a "key fob" is actually a security hole. Anyone can walk by you with a portable scanner and pull the information from your wallet, and create a new card impersonating you and entering your workplace. Sure it's more convenient. But it's less secure. Having the card between metal is better security.

Looks nice, but I wouldn't dish out $125 for two pieces of metal with elastic. I'll stick with my leather card wallet, which costs me $50, and it's just as thin as the Ridge wallet.

Seems like a good honest review. I’ve been on the fence about ordering the Ridge wallet, but I’m doing it.
Side note: The official Ridge website states their wallets are designed to hold 1-12 cards, not 15.

I just bought one. The biggest down fall for me is the fact that I can’t put business cards, pictures, or other random momentos. Just cards.

@@HexagonMusic TIL people carry change in their wallets. I keep one quarter in my car for shopping carts. Tolls and laundromat are cash/card. Honestly never needed to have or use change. I feel like it's easier to nickel and dime yourself by using cash, pun intended.
For people not using USD, coins are regular part, not that thing that just leaves after, so for me - completely unusable

those metallic bits of trash people give you with your bills sometimes? I throw those in the garbage where they belong. I hate when people give me their trash to dispose of but fortunately all stores seem to have trash cans in front of them.

So, the three knock-offs cost less than a single ridge wallet and the only trade off is that you have to manually bend a clip and that the edges aren't as nice? Yeah, ridge is a novelty product at this point. Anyone that buys one either has more money than sense or REALLY hates manual clips (most clips are manual...).
I would have been sold on this wallet if it wasn’t for the embossed cards getting hung up. Deal breaker!!
I have this wallet, most of my cards are embossed, it's a non-issue.
Additionally the guy in the video didn't read the manual.
You don't push the cards out and then manually fan them horizontally. You push the cards up and squeeze the 2 plates together, this forces the cards out further and they then fan out themselves allowing you to select one. Embossed cards actually aid this fanning effect. (Admittedly if you have short nails and a lot of cards it can occasionally be a little awkward to grab one from the middle).
Also you can adjust the screws to slacken the elastic, allowing you to have the correct tension for the amount of cards you want to fit in it.

@@TheNraveles it's literally a single page folded leaflet... if you want innovation, and choose to buy something that differs from the norm. You should take the time to check it's correct usage before you make a video review.
One could say 'it shouldn't need a manual' about anything. But if that thing is a significant change or attempt at innovation from the normal then it's simply not true. My underwear came with something similar and if I wasn't going to take the time to read it, I should have just bought ordinary underwear. But I did and I'm glad I did because these are the best underwear I've ever worn.

Stop calling these thing a wallet, is nothing more than just a glorified card holder. Wallet is something where you can hold a substantial amount of cash note + cards.
So by your definition the ridge wallet is a wallet.
In cane hold up to 15 cards, that's a substantial amount in my books, and it can basically hold an unlimited amount of cash notes.

I have a old leather wallet. It’s pretty worn out, but still holds my cards, id, and cash. I thought about a ridge wallet. Then I saw the price. No thanks. After watching your review, I realized it’s not made for me.
