    The problem with HRV is that everyone calculates its value differently. Here it is all about the trend, despite the different values you can see that the Suunto captures the trend at key moments.

    Thanks Hunter. Great Job! Ray (DCRainmaker) said that his HRV was in line with Garmin, within 1ms or so, and it seems that the non workout metrics (HRV, recovery, sleep...) are not affected by OHR. For workouts the OHR is not good, but I always wear an external monitor. If Suunto would have put in a new OHR that was as accurate as the newer Garmins, we would have a definite monster! As it is now I am still between the Suunto Race Titanium and the Garmin 965. Leaning towards Suunto Race, but have gone back and forth over the last 3 weeks.

      Yes I think that is a legitimate struggle! I just can't seem to get away from the feeling of uncertainty on some of the metrics and accuracy, and also the fact that they are now doing custom algorithms and recommendations from the data - I just feel that Garmin is more advanced and developed and evolved on how they make recommendations, like in the body battery when you have sharp declines that the Suunto didn't pick up. But it's still a very tough call! Let me know what you decide!

      The Garmin might not be a looker. But the software is more advanced and it's less bulky. I would go for a 965 any day.

    Like always a great review! Does the new race track arm swing for steps? So far all Suunto watches count arm swing as multiple steps that gives me over 2000+ steps a day? Not sure if that’s a big deal just curious if the new Race does the same. 🤔

    Binging your video comparisons now lol😂. Wondering what you would recommend for a long time garmin user who will use it primarily for running/lifting and wellness and pairing with chest hrm for most training. Split between this and a polar offering, but am open to coros as well. I don’t necessarily need or want amoled and have a fenix 7 right now but am looking to check out a different ecosystem.

    Do you feel like the hr readings at rest and during sleep are accurate. I pretty much always use a Chest strap or an HR armband for workouts as i dont think most hr sensors are that great except maybe the Apple Watch. I really like what Suunto is doing and the price is great.

    got 465$ for titanium. pretty much agreed your review. the map zooming fixed by now. the lagging isn't that obvious for me, watch wakes up fine enough. HR maybe off, but tired to all metrics being measured to Garmin which is also not 100% accurate to start with. the FR265 offers no offline maps, and maps were a function I wanted for trails/hikes, cos following on my phone was painful. FR965 was more expensive, and felt cheaper, though yes, offers more functions for sure. overall fine, still a step forward from my previous watch, without needing to rob a bank.

      Completely and totally agree. I still think it is a fantastic watch at that price! Like seriously fantastic at that price!

    Could the HR result be affected by a very low power setting of the sensor? Considering the fantastic battery life, they could in case raise the HR sensor power a little bit to try to solve...

    Well one issue with the HR sensor for me is that during the day, even when not working out, I like to look at my heart rate. I could not wear that on a daily basis.

    Is the Suunto Race is better buy than Garmin Venu 3?
    Should i get Suunto Race and synchronise it with Polar Verity Sensor for training periods?
    Or just get Polar Vantage V3?
    I need accurate HRV monitoring.
    ThAnk you for your reviews!

      Se diriger vers une Apple pour une VRC fiable. Aucune montre n est vraiment valable sans ceinture cardiaque. Ça fait cher au bout du compte

    It’s the best looking sports watch for me. The firmware update sorts the minor things. The Polar V3 is also very pretty but has the same HR issue as this race. V3 is way more expensive too.

  • @matthewpulliam7473
    @matthewpulliam7473 11 месяцев назад

    Does the HR issue tie back to the 24-minute averaging? That would explain why steady state is accurate but active/highly variable is off.

    I'm a proud owner of a Garmin FR 235 😁 and i never analised my heart rate and body power and so on... I need a new watch for ultra running like 50miles with somekind of navigation, that can do some workouts like repeats and tempo and things like that and... pair with strava... Is it a thing to buy? I'm not even close to be geek on data analysis!

    I’d really like to ask you this question: I have some arm hair on my wrist, would it help the HR sensors to shave this part? I have quite some dark hair could block the “vision” of the sensor.. ? 😅

    Can the Race Connect to a Garmin heart strap or does it have to be Suuntos own products? Thanks

    • @fitgearhunter
      @fitgearhunter  11 месяцев назад +2

      Great question and any product! The linking process makes it look like it has to even be a chest strap, but it's just anything that connects by Bluetooth. I have connected a couple different versions, none of which are Suunto. A Coros arm band and a Garmin chest strap

    That's Crazy how Suunto messed up with the HR sensor!! They should have tested this watch much better before releasing it. Such a pity because every reviews i have watched so far are all stating how bad it is. Personally a deal breaker for me (both the HR sensor + laggy OS).

      That's so awesome how did you get that access?

  • @carsons5750
    @carsons5750 6 месяцев назад

    Honestly the deal breaker for me is the (reported, I haven’t touched one) lack of customization in the default sports profiles. Apparently you can’t change the data pages for “Run” unless you create a new version of “Run”? And then you can’t edit your custom version if you want to change something, you have to make a whole new version of it again?
    Also the display during an activity is just ugly to me, the Garmin products unfortunately look much nicer to me. I think I’m going to end up with an FR965 with a screen protector, despite wanting to support competition in the marketplace (and reward Suunto for putting sapphire on a well-priced watch).

    • @fitgearhunter
      @fitgearhunter  6 месяцев назад +2

      Totally agree and can see and support all of your thoughts! The sensor is a big unfortunate dealbreaker for me, not that I depend on the built-in optical sensor, but for it to be as bad as it was it makes the periodic workouts when I don't want to wear an external center completely untrustworthy
      The 965 is awesome on all fronts regarding features and value, I just wish it had a depressed glass or raised bezel and no doming and more metal casing! But otherwise the most important things about it are way ahead of the others
