    Thanks for the great information.. actually im abit confused here i have epix gen 2 and tempting to upgrade to the pro version only because if the newer heart rate sensor i dont really do running i do only strenth training and i care alot about sleeping tracking accuracy.. so what you think

    • @fitgearhunter
      @fitgearhunter 3 дня назад

      @@HazimMohammed-bj9kq hey! The newer heart rate sensor on the pro does not affect any sleep analytics. Technically, the additional light diodes that increase the accuracy for workouts don't get engaged during the normal day, so you would get the exact same results with your current epix as you would with a pro version for sleep, body battery, and all non-training specifics.

    This video popped up while I was looking for Athlytic reviews. This is a great looking app. I'm wondering if you've heard of Bright OS? It's similar to Athlytic but also includes features from My Fitness Pal and MacroFactor. It's still in pre-release and has a few bugs and features that don't seem to work. But it looks promising.

    Do you feel like the hr readings at rest and during sleep are accurate. I pretty much always use a Chest strap or an HR armband for workouts as i dont think most hr sensors are that great except maybe the Apple Watch. I really like what Suunto is doing and the price is great.

    Thank you very much for your test. I would like to buy a new watch. And I'm a little unsure about the heart rate measurement in particular. I really like the design with the rotating crown. I could well imagine wearing a Polar Verity Sense HRM during intensive workouts. 1. does that make sense in your eyes? 2. would you prefer the normal Race to the Race S? 3. if so, why? 4. is there a very good alternative for you (like the Polar Ignite 3 Titanium)? 5. did you try the new firmware for the Suunto Race from the last days (which should improve UI responsiveness, maybe HRM too?)? I would use the watch for the following sports: 1. HIIT (1x per week) 2. fitness (1x per week) 3. spinning (1x per week) 4. running (1x per week, but sometimes not) 5. cycling (1x per week for zone 2)

    Yeah slightly better. Which is interesting that some of the larger channel reviewers gave it praise on the HR improvements, yet most of the other channels I follow had similar results to you. Makes me question the integrity of said larger channels.. thanks for the analyses, I would agree chest strap all the way regardless of the watch. I do think it’s helpful to try and get an idea of what the HR sensor is doing throughout the day (ie resting Hr, hrv and sleep mostly)

    Sorry for the off topic question, but have you seen an increase in accuracy since that new update to your WHOOP device?

  • @IslandGroupCHS
    @IslandGroupCHS 8 дней назад

    Coming from 3+ years on whoop, and training almost exclusively in crossfit, if you could buy any device what would it be? The 265? My primary focus is using sleep and recovery to dictate training intensity (especially with young children)

    • @fitgearhunter
      @fitgearhunter 8 дней назад

      @@IslandGroupCHS completely understand and really appreciate the question! I do like WHOOP, but only for recovery or nightly evaluation, I don't even look at the statistics for strain because I don't think that they are taking the right approach with training load and workout evaluation - but it sounds like you utilize the nightly insights to make training decisions so we have to take that into account! Yes - the 265 will give you all of that in full. The training readiness statistic will basically be a similar evaluation for readiness to take on a hard workout, based on recovery metrics and recent workouts, and I think they do it more thoroughly than WHOOP does. You'll also have available training load evaluation just in general if you wanted to Evaluate when to add in harder or longer workouts because of low volume analytics themselves. But - you really have to pair it to a chest strap or an HR arm band for workouts because the heart rate sensor is just not good enough to really keep up. Now by comparison, the heart rate sensor is still better than the WHOOP heart rate sensor for sure, but there have been too many erroneous workouts that doesn't help you evaluate things long-term. And if you had an unlimited supply of money, I would go with an epic pro variant because it has a better heart rate sensor and a bunch of other features and benefits, including a metal casing for harder workouts, but the 265 is great all around And I used it for months, but it's not the most full tilt rugged version.

    • @IslandGroupCHS
      @IslandGroupCHS 8 дней назад

      @@fitgearhunter thank you for the extremely detailed response! Is there a chest strap or HR arm band that is compatible with garmin? Or would that be a separate app/set of data? I am not opposed to adding an additional sensor in, I just want to keep everything in one app/set of data. I find wearing a whoop strap to be more comfortable than a watch for workouts. Also, Which epic pro would you go with? And what watch do you currently use now? Thanks again, you’ve definitely helped my search significantly this far!

    • @fitgearhunter
      @fitgearhunter 8 дней назад

      @@IslandGroupCHS happy to help! And it's funny I normally don't respond to many comments because I just don't have the time but yours in particular resonated because of the question itself. ANY HR sensor will work w Garmin - any of them. I do like Garmins own HRM PRO Plus myself but only if you get it on sale (so like <$100). Otherwise Coros arm band is great, or for less expensive chest strap (these are good standard accuracy over arm band versions) is polar H9 or H10 if on sale. H10 over H9 if H9 only saving you $20 or less though. Epix pro any size is great - I didn't pay for higher quality materials (sapphire/titanium) and it was fine. The key is the "Pro". I liked 47mm best

    • @IslandGroupCHS
      @IslandGroupCHS 8 дней назад

      @@fitgearhunter I did notice that, so I was pumped to get a response! So to clarify, the HR sensor will sync up to the watch data and that data will impact the daily strain (or what garmin version is called) and the body battery stats for the following day? (I know that strain is only one of the factors that contributes to the body battery or “recovery”)

    • @fitgearhunter
      @fitgearhunter 8 дней назад

      @@IslandGroupCHS yes totally. You connect the chest strap once and then when you put in on every time after it pulls HR from there - you still start and stop the workout on the watch though, but you don't have to wear the watch because the heart rate data is feeding over from the external heart rate sensor, you just need to keep it within 30 feet or whatever so that the heart rate stays connected to the watch. That's where we're having a Garmin heart rate sensor does help because if you go out of range, it will upload heart rate off of the strap if the connection was lost to the watch at some point in the middle. And I take back what I said I actually like the 51 mm Epix pro best because it's just big and awesome

    You can definitely feel this firsthand, the base is hard to rebuild if you let it atrophy for too long. It’s sort of a flywheel effect and much easier to get back into rhythm when you’re younger, not to mention minimizing the chance of injury. We tend mentally to go back to our early days and push too hard, expecting our bodies to respond in the same way 30 years later.

    My experience aligns with your assessment. The Polar app and even the watch itself (while not the most modern design) effectively present training and recovery data in a clear and user-friendly format. Having transitioned from an Apple Watch 5 to a Polar Grit X Pro and then a Pixel 2 Watch, I'm strongly considering the Vantage V3 with an H10 heart rate monitor to optimize my training in Zone 2. Polar's core strength lies in its robust data collection and analysis capabilities. This expertise is extending beyond their consumer products, as evidenced by their new data services for other companies.

    Its all about direct relevant measurement. HRV is way too unreliable with wrist HR. Do it with a chest strap but even then its overhyped as a measurement right now. All about training load and planning in running just export all data to runalyze or trainingpeaks. Much closer and actually focused on useful information All about lifestyle and sleep stuff. See it as a kind of toy its not much more. Regarding companies; Garmin is leader but not because of all the mostly gimicky features but best execution of GPS and heart rate Suunto since changing to chinese ownership has a much stronger focus on lifestyle features. Still good watches but their HR is serious lacking and imo worse than their older watches. Coros: dont have a valid opinion as not enough experience with them. Apple: succeeds as a smartwatch not a sports watch , a battery life from hell and hidden costs with apps you have to buy. Also its an ugly watch as unimportant as that may seem And there is Polar. Yes Flow is a good app but its a little dated . I also enjoy them for focusing mostly on actual useful data contrary to Garmin. The problem I have with Polar right now is the GPS not on par with Garmin . Maybe they can fix that. I do hope as they are imo the most sympathetic company and I do hope they survive . Sadly the also go full AMOLED in their premium watches right now which disqualifies them for me in that segment. If you have loads of money imo go for a Garmin It budget should a lot less imo the Polar Pacer Pro is a wonderful steal and overall fantastic watch!

    Now two years later the Epix get display burn in left and right . Talked with a lot of people the last weeks and its common if you use Aod Remind you a 1000dollar watch d. It doesnt have close to the life span of a mip screen. Expect 3 years (last cases I know burned in much sooner) then the risk is very high. The atrocious usage on a bike when it dims every 15seconds makes it impossible to use there as a bike computer and that as the top multisport watch. I get why you want to prefer an Amoled if you exercise indoor, only that you then dont need an Epix at all then regarding functionality, Outdoors the maps are much more precise but it also autodims and on the smaller models battery life is still a big problem. . Regarding all the sleep tracking. Its quite debatable how useful that data is with a wrist HR sensor. Even whoop produces mostly just noise. You want to really know your cns health take an HRV measurement with chest strap but hell even that is not as black and white useful as people think. With pro athletes simple orthostatic tests are used with a higher precision. Its always about the data that gets directly measured NOT calculated. THere Epix is a great watch just like Fenix but if you just upgrade every few years beware of that display and go for Fenix. For indoor sports I would go for a much cheaper watch not including maps..etc.
